My boyfriend and I came here on a Thursday morning and it was super crowded and a decent line! It was really spacious inside and had a lot of seating but every seat was basically taken! The staff were really nice and attentive. We've been wanting to try this place because the architecture was so pretty and the drinks and pastries looked delicious! We got the seasonal drinks which were the matcha ube mango latte and one with turmeric and spices as well as the tropical cruffin. They were all reasonably priced which was great. The matcha ube mango latte was pretty tasty, but there were a little too many flavors going on. My favorite was the latte with turmeric and spices! It tasted like a chai latte but with even more spices and the turmeric added even more flavor to it which was tasty! The cruffin was actually really delicious! The mango cream filling was refreshing and not too sweet and it paired well with the crispy exterior of the cruffin. Overall, would definitely visit this cafe again and definitely one of my top cafes! read more

Been wanting to go this place since last year, and finally had the chance to go here. The place is quite close to my climbing gym, so it was pretty convenient to go before my climbing session. Once I got to the place at 1 PM, I could see long lines of people. It's first come first serve, you order first, and get seat afterwards. I ordered the "Pork Belly Benny", and informed them that my friend is coming too and we are a group of two, but they were going to be a bit late as I sent them to the wrong place oops After waiting at my seat for about 20 min, the cashier that helped me earlier approached me, and apologized, "Your order is coming, but it's going to take a while". As an apology, they gave me cookies on the house. Cookies was a bit too sweet for my liking, but it was still good. The coarse salt on top gave a nice crunch and savoury flavour in every bite. The "Pork Belly Benny" is arrived shortly after, and I proceeded to take my magical first bite. I think the charcoal hollandaise was made using browned butter, but I'm not 100% on this, maybe they used charcoal salt (?). Poached egg was perfect, between medium and soft. Not gonna lie, price is a a bit steep for a single pork belly, but it was really good! After I finished my benny, I told the server that I wanted to order more food, and they told me that I can do it on the table without going to the cashier again, and they server will bring the card machine for you to pay. I ordered the Cherry Amaretto Cruffin which came a few min after. There was nice crunch on the surface, and the cream inside tasted good. I've been a fan of Nemesis since I visited the first location they opened in gas town. I prefer this location at GNW more because of its distance to me. I will flag it is a bit difficult parking on the streets but the parking lot is extremely convenient and the rates are not expensive. I really judge a coffee shop in 3 ways: - Do they have a good espresso - Can I have a really good conversation here, catching up with friends? - Can I do some work here? (Weekday) This coffee shop answered the latter 2 questions easily although I would be skeptical about working here on a weekend when the line wraps around the exterior. Coffee: 2/5 I would prefer them to have a choice offering a more balanced option for coffee just like they do for their espresso. Their options have been quite acidic every time I walk in Espresso (flat white): 5/5 Really well executed Butter croissant: 3/5 The croissant I had that day could've been better. The holes when you opened up the croissant varied in size with one massive hole (tunnelling) Pistachio crown: 4/5 Nicely done. This place is certainly pleasing aesthetically. Nice dome, mushroom shape in the middle of the city. Table are nice and comfortable. There's plenty of pastries to choose from. Coffee I think is a little expensive, over $4 for drip coffee. The brew varies. The people are nice and pleasant. They smile at you. They even brought me water without having to ask for it. That was nice! Bought a carmelized croissant called The Queen. It's not bad. It's fresh on the inside and crunchy on the outside. When you walk in you have to order first and they will sit you or ask you where you want to sit. You can't just sit on your own like in most coffee shops. There's no wifi as well. So for people thinking they will study or work, you won't have internet access. You have to bring your own I guess. Didn't see it in any available wifi on my phone and I asked the person next to me she said she is not using wifi. I guess they discourage people from hanging out too long. Parking is available at the basement of the business next door. There are signs marked for Nemesis but it's only limited to 30 mins. Again it's something to consider. Wasn't expecting too much to begin with! Just wanted to come here to (check-in) cause of the pretty building and get a nice gram. We came here at around 12:10... luckily only waited about 15 minutes in line to order our food and drinks, otherwise the 3 star experience might become a 2 for me. Overall, the food and coffee were as expected. In Chinese we have a saying 好睇唔好食/ 好看不好吃 (canto/ mando)... which means... looks good but not so great tasting. I probably won't return again myself, but only because I personally find the croissants not buttery/ flakey enough. And the fillings a tad too sweet. And my flat white was too sour for my liking. The location is pretty cool. It's different. Very modern take and when you come in you're greeted by this smell of coffee. My eyes gravitated to the architecture and then a full case/display of desserts. They don't have a wide selection of drinks. I got vanilla macchiato, I believe, and it kinda tasted sour. I even had them add a splash of milk and added some sugar but the sour taste was so overpowering. I mean I'm not a coffee connoisseur so please educate me on this. HONEST REVIEW!! I may be a hater but I'm just trying to get my honest opinion out there about my experience at Nemesis Coffee GNW and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels the same way. I decided to give this cafe a try since I've heard so much about it and it's within such a close walking distance from my house. I made it a point to head there early (9:15am when I got in line) since I've heard that they tend to sell out of everything in the afternoon. So I got there with the intentions of having brunch at 9:30 and the lineup wasn't bad - I placed my order for and first thoughts were why is everything so goddamn expensive!? Right by a school too (Emily Carr University) where students live off of coffee.. location just didn't make sense to me. I waited more than half an hour for everything to come to me and I wasn't impressed. The staff are so nice but super slow. I checked my watch and saw that I received my order at 10:10am.. CHAI LATTE W/ OAT MILK Nothing fancy about this drink - it tasted like a regular chai latte with not a lot of chai flavour. $5.5 in total (+$1 for oat milk) PORK BELLY BENNY Although this tasted yummy, it costed $14 for JUST a single portion.. and $25 if you want to double! WTH. The most overpriced benny I've ever had and it didn't even come with sides.. I was actually mad about it. Not only that but my food was cold when I ate it. All in all I didn't really enjoy my experience here as I waited 30+ min for my food/drink and felt that everything was OVERPRICED. Even though the staff were nice and the food tasted good, I don't think it justifies for these crazy prices for their brunch. I only tried their brunch but the experience was so off-putting that it doesn't entice me to try any of their pastries Safe to say that I won't be here again and if you want good brunch, there are waaay better places in Vancouver that have large portions and DON'T break the bank. read more

We all know we make that exact face that's on the box and packaging whenever we hover over the pastry counter and see the beautifully decked out pastries at Nemesis! I was so happy I got to make a recent visit at this newest location to pick up some goodies and cross off a few more flavours on my list! This time I had their Banana Toffee + Cherry Amaretto + Chocolate Caramel Crunch + Chocolate Chip Cookie. Each one was unique, creamy and flaky! But my favourite is still the banana toffee! Love the chocolatey banana filling inside! And it was a first trying their massive cookies - it was almost the size of my head! I was drawn in by the striking look of the building, and the food menu and pastries looked interesting. I arrived at about 12:20 on a Saturday and was very worried that they'd be running out of pastries based on some earlier reviews, but the case was fully stocked. There was also barely a line, I wasn't keeping track, but I'd guess that I waited about 5 minutes to order, and a seat opened up almost instantly after I ordered. It was packed when I visited, but it seemed like they keep things moving. They have an assigned seating system, and if you show up and want to dine in when there's no seats available, they'll put you on a waitlist, which I appreciate since it ensures everyone gets their fair turn. You may end up having to sit at a communal table as I did, but I still felt like I had enough personal space. The staff is very pleasant and professional, and they're very attentive in clearing out dishes and cleaning tables as soon as customers are finished. Because of the seating situation, it's not really a place where you can hang around working, but I didn't get the sense that they were rushing people out who were just taking their time enjoying their food and chatting - just be reasonable. The music is also on the loud side. It wasn't bothering me but you do have to talk loudly if you're trying to have a conversation. I got the Filet-O-Celeriac sandwich, the Caramel Corn Cruffin, and a Flat White. I was surprised that the sandwich was my favourite thing that I tried! The celeriac actually makes a very good substitute for fish, and the tartar sauce was delicious. It was a big sandwich, but I think $14 is a bit too expensive for just a sandwich. The cruffin was really sugary, a bit too much for me, but I was expecting that and it was still really enjoyable. If it was my choice, though, I'd leave off the sugar coating since the filling and topping were sweet enough for the whole thing. Despite the sweetness, there was a nice depth of flavour in both the frosting and cream filling (I liked that the topping and filling were a little different), and the flakiness of the cruffin itself was very satisfying. This was $6 which is still not cheap but acceptable given the size and complexity of the pastry. The flat white wasn't awful, but the espresso tasted very "bean-y" to me which is not a taste I've experienced before. Maybe it's because I ordered decaf? I happily finished it but I would order something non-espresso-based next time. Drinks are priced reasonably as-is (flat white is $4.5), but it's $1 extra for oat milk (which is the only milk alternative they have), which is the most I've seen anyone charge. I feel like my 3 star rating is a little deceptive because I very enthusiastically enjoyed this place and would totally come back, and I'm very close to giving it 4 stars. To be fair, though, I decided to dock 1 star for prices and 1 star for the vague weirdness of the coffee and overly-sugared cruffin. read more

Tried a few of their popular pastries and we were more than satisfied with each and every one of the things we sampled! We got their tiramisu croissant which was filled with a decadent espresso flavoured cream and topped with a mascarpone cream. The croissant as flaky without being too heavy and tasted like it was fresh from the oven! We also tried out the cookies and cream cruffin and the cherry amaretto cruffin and both were the standouts of the day! The cruffins have a pastry similar to the croissant but dusted in sugar making it a little bit crunchier. The filling inside was neither too sweet or overbearing making these delicious desserts! Lastly, we had their apple tart which had a distinct spice flavour. This was good but our favourites were still their cruffins! read more

Ok so I have had Nemesis cruffins many times,from their north Vancouver location. I like cream so yes, they are super caloric and delicious. We're had a variety of baked goods and the consensus is very good. However, these treats are pricey. It was suggested we visit their location in east Vancouver on great northern way for coffee. I did not realize there was a line up going all the way around the building. We waited 15 minutes and basically did not move. Asked if there was another line for take out, there wasn't. So we did not wait since we've had their baked goods before. I will update my review should I try again. This review is for baked goods only. read more

I liked the cruffin filling - very fragrant and not too sweet. However, the pastry itself was stale which made it inedible. The London Fog was not memorable. Despite the large space, it was very difficult to find seating due to all the customers. Overall, this is not a cafe I would come back to or recommend. read more

I've been wanting to visit this location since they've opened, mainly for their pastries, but when we got their everything was sold out :( .. So advice is: go super early!! We lined up for 45-50 minutes , ordered coffee and some hot foods. The staff were friendly, and the way ordering & seating was organized was well done. So, you order coffee and pastries at the counter, and if you would like to sit down the staff will put your name on a waitlist and ask you to stand at a designated area until the table is available. Once you're seated the waiter will come to you to order & pay for your hot foods. I appreciated this because it doesn't make find a seat competitive or stressful lol On to the food. The food items were underwhelming and for what you pay you can go elsewhere for better. Spring Hash ($16), sad portion and even sadder potatoes - the potatoes were bland and the texture was as if it was boiled then broiled for a 'crispy' exterior .. it was not crispy. The sauce was acidic & light and paired OK. Porchetta Sandwich ($17), I appreciate the house made rosemary focaccia bun it sort of resembled a cornbread texture? kinda fluffy and crumbly. The slow-roasted porchetta was supposed to feature a crackling, but nothing was crispy in the sandwich. The porchetta itself was tough and hard to chew, I believe it would've made sense to cut the porchetta into smaller pieces rather than having thick slices - it would've made a better experience lol. Also, the pickled vegetables and the amount of mustard was overdone.. It made the sandwich sour. I mean, the building itself is beautiful and the coffee is good but if you need to wait almost an hour for so-so food I would suggest picking another place. read more

Wow this place is aesthetic. It's like a pretty girl with a boring personality. Because the place is so pretty. But I found the coffee "meh." I've heard the pastries and cookies are good here. Staff is nice. This place is kind of a lowkey tourist attraction. I just got one coffee, and they wouldnt like me hang around like the bum I am, they made me wait outside and delivered my coffee too me. The seating outside, looks like it would be sit as you like, except it's dine in seating on the outside. So no you cannot sit in the outside patio. Same on the inside, it's dine in service. Ok well then I guess, I would recommend this as a nice place to take a lady and get the seating outside and enjoy the architecture. Long wait on the weekends, be different, go on a weekday. Previously enjoyed visiting the Gastown location of Nemesis so wanted to check out the new spot on Great Northern Way for brunch. Lineup on this Sunday was about 45-50 mins and the pastries were sold out by noon. Coffee selection is reasonable but portions are tiny. Staff were all very nice and the overall logistics/operations was pretty solid. Unfortunately the brunch items we ordered were disappointing. The spring hash was bland and potatoes were underseasoned. Just not something I can imagine any patron re-ordering, completely forgettable. The porchetta sandwich was comprised of very tough and chewy meat on a soggy bun with excessive Dijon. There's just too many excellent bakeries and cafes along Commercial and Main that you don't have to line up almost an hour for, and have so much more to offer than just being in a unique tomato looking structure. read more

Enjoyed some coffee and a pork belly benedict here on a busy Saturday afternoon. For awareness, they limit capacity at tables to around 1.5 hours when busy, which was fine by me. It was more than enough time to bask in the aesthetics of the coffee shop - this place takes the prize as the first circular coffee shop I've been to. The pork belly benedict was slightly dry, but otherwise everything else was quite yummy. They also bus your table and provide water refills. Parking was not crowded by the street in front of the shop. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick pick-me-up in the area. read more
