First off, this is not a fancy diner. It is just a tiny old grocery store that makes generous and inexpensive sandwiches for a great price and you can add chips and drinks (water or soda). Two of us ate there for less than $12 last week. You order your sandwich(es) at the deli counter at the back of the store. The sandwich is made fresh on your choice of bread with lots of meat, cheese, condiment and add ons (lettuce, pickles, tomato). Please know the bread is sliced sandwich bread (not fancy bakery items). You pay at the register when you pick up your sandwich along with whatever else you picked up in the little store. The real significance of this place is that it is an old grocery located in Riverton, Ks on historic Route 66. One room in the store is Route 66 merchandise. This is not a McDonalds, Wendys, etc. standard eating out experience. This is a funky, one of a kind and interesting small place to eat (there is a few tables and chairs in a covered area just outside the small store). It also serves as a snack stop or perhaps a convenience store for folks in Riverton who don't want to go to Joplin or other towns nearby. This is a place for those who aren't afraid to try something a bit different where they don't know what they will experience. Be brave and check these nice people out. Go Riverton Rams!!!

Happy Independence Day! In honor of America's birthday, I'd like to take us back to a classic store here in America's Main Road... and what better store to visit for your Route 66 souvenirs than the oldest operating shop that still exists on the road today? Driving through Kansas, we hustled and made it a priority to stop by this little shop in Riverton. Right as you drive in you will see old relics from the historic route as well as signs advertising essentials to driving travelers. A young shop keeper was present to ring us up, and we assume it was someone that was part of the family. The store contains two sections: one half immediately selling basic goods such as snacks, refreshments, cigs, etc., while a second half houses primarily Route 66 souvenirs from magnets to signage. Walking in felt like stepping into the American past. We spent a majority of our time in the Route 66 room and were pleasantly surprised at the number of items that drew our attention. My friend and I managed to purchase some great magnets, maps, and road signs from this little store. We were very pleased with everything purchased and really enjoyed the experience shopping at this store. This shop is a must for anybody on Route 66. You're going to really enjoy the blast to the past and souvenirs you'll get just from this one spot.

We walked in and the man working did not greet us at all. We where respectful and quiet walked around the shop and looked at all the old Route 66 stuff and the guy was extremely rude to me and my friends. when he hung up the phone, we said good mornin and tried to be polite but I don't think he wanted anyone there for anything. We said have a nice day and left we will not be back.

Stumbled upon what looked like a cool little historic store. Me and my friends wanted to try the sandwiches, because of all the good reviews. When we walked in the man working was busy taking a personal call, did not greet us. We were walking around checking everything out quietly, when he finished his phone call he made a very rude remark about "none of us conversing with him". Was excited to read some of the cool information about Galena here and try the food but his service made us leave. Sadly we won't be returning.

Like stepping back in time. Everyone that works here is pleasant and very helpful. The sandwiches may seem basic, but are out of this world.

I've been confused about this business since news of the grocery store closing a few years ago. If you just drive by on Frontenac's main drag, it looks like the business is still closed. But on the west side of the building is the new entrance. It seems they just blocked off the front part of the store to save on utilities. The heart of the business is the meat counter, for which Pallucca's was always famous. You'll still find Pallucca's famous sausage. I was pleased to find the three types of italian cold cuts that I use to make muffalettas - which I'd previously only found at Tulsa's Fresh Market. There are lots of italian specialties, including several varieties of ravioli and homemade spaghetti sauce. They also carry the famed Frontenac Bakery bread. Also in in the meat counter are ready-made deli sandwiches (featuring fresh artisan bread) and salads. We really liked the cuban sandwich, which was big enough for two people. They grilled it in a panini press, which made it better than imagined. There are tables for dining in, and there and bottled soft drinks. Lunch specials are offered from 11 - 1 Monday thru Friday. Normal hours are 9-6 Monday thru Saturday, closed Sunday.

It is NOT fast food but everyone knows you rarely get good food fast. It has a bit of a 40s vibe with big band music as background. I didn't get our waiter's name but the ticket said Music Man. He is friendly, attentive and stayed busy. I had the Big BLT and onion rings. 4 slices of bacon with garlic mayo on toasted, thick sliced white bread. Plenty to eat and fresh. Excellent sandwich. The onion rings were almost as good as Chicken Annie's. Deb had the Big Dipper and broccoli cheese soup. They both looked delicious and since she didn't have a leftover to take home, I would guess it tasted as good as it looked. I didn't think they were overly busy for 11:30 so help them out and go try it.

However, what is not so funny, is that all their sandwiches are one high price of 15.75 which also included things like grilled cheese and fried bologna which is just crazy to me. Now, I got the French Dipper and it was good. However, it was not bursting with flavor so it was a bit disappointing IMO. The onion rings were hand cut, but did not save the day either, luke warm and just alright tasted. Nothing to write home about :(. They did take very good care of us with a tandem wait staff and that was fantastic!!
