First time at Nelson's and it was great. The environment was nice and the food was fantastic. I had the elk tenderloins and it came with mashed potatoes and sautéed onions. Every bite was full of flavor. The elk was lean and tasty. Also recommend their old fashioned cocktail made with Buffalo Trace. Will definitely be back read more

I sure hope this place can hang in there cause it's FANTSTIC!!!! The folks there are wonderful and incredibly accommodating. The apps are wonderful and unique and the main courses are always delicious. I do trick mine up somewhat, I get fries with my entree no matter what. They bring out a giant bowl of shoestrings French fries, it's really quite extraordinary. This place is in the rotation for sure. read more

All I can say is WOW!! The food is awesome, service is top notch, and prices are very reasonable! Hubby and I had not been there before so we ordered a variety of yummy items. We started off with the shrimp poppers, caesar salad, and lobster bisque all split between the two of us. Truly the lobster bisque (pretty spicy with lots of lobster), and the shrimp poppers were some of the best we've ever had. For our entrees, we ordered the lobster sliders and the red snapper and both were beyond wonderful. Lots of lobster on the sliders and the red snapper very light and flaky, with the fish being served with a tomato and caper accompanyment. As AH's review says, "Five Stars Plus" and that is so true. If you don't want to experience the ambiance of the restaurant, they have a drive thru for pick up, especially nice during all the covid outbreaks. I don't get the review from Jerry P. saying the ambiance is like a gray Taco Bueno. Seriously? We found the ambiance very nice and calming. read more

We went here for lunch on Saturday and had a great time. Patio is super nice and my kids loved it. They made them some fries and chicken tenders that they loved. My husband and I shared a dozen East Coast oysters, lobster sliders, and the rainbow trout. We had some cocktails and beers as well. Great casual environment. Great prices for the quality of food and service. It will be a regular for us for sure. read more

Love this place! Great food, good atmosphere, very friendly staff, ample parking, convenient location. Check it out!

Nelson's is definitely a bird of paradise among the same old same in the area! My husband had the elk, it was a stand out. Perfectly tender and delicious. I had the sea scallops. Being from Maine, I might be a bit of a sea food snob. It's the first time in eleven years of living in Texas that I've had scallops and there wasn't a single bit of grit in them. They were Devine. I ordered an old fashioned, which is a simple cocktail that many do not execute as well as Nelson's did. To top it all off I got the chocolate cake. BEWARE! If you're expecting to have it all for yourself, order two. It was decadent and moist, the perfect finish to a perfect meal. For the money, Nelson's can't be beat. read more

This place is incredible We had a Appreciation Dinner for one of the Departments in our office and wow, I was blown away. Custom menus, amazing food, and strong drinks. That's a wicked combo and I couldn't be more satisfied. I can't wait to bring my wife here for date night. What a great experience. Thank you Bryan and the Nelson's team for helping create such a memorable night Jonathan Whitman IFM read more

This place has excellent steaks and nice wine selection. My ribeye was seasoned well, no need for the sauce, and the frites were crispy and tasty. The staff was also wonderful, Thomas did a great job keeping the ice teas filled and us happy. He provided all the pertinent information about the dishes, and was able to accommodate a not-so-normal request. Others in my party ordered seafood dishes, and they were pleased! Especially with the grilled redfish (everyone at the table had to try it). The prices were also very reasonable for what you get. I have to mention this location was an old Taco Cabana that I use to frequent 16 years ago before moving to California, and they really did a good job making it their own. It's up-scale without being pompous. It's sleek and lit appropriately for the type of dining, but still has a causal and welcoming feel. I would recommend coming here to eat. read more

Great place for carnivores. I am particularly a fan of the elk. Great seals and great seafood-all at reasonable prices in a terrific, clean atmosphere. read more

Yum Yum Yum! This place fills a much needed niche, let's keep them in business. Great fresh seafood, veggies were so tasty. You can go healthy or decadent. Check it out. read more

Loved the atmosphere of this place . We went around five pm and they dimmed the lights and put a small little light on our table. Thought it was the cutest. The place had a modern feel and was very clean. The tea was AMAZING. Tasted home made. The fish was yummy. The cornbread was good and sweet. I didn't like the mashed potatoes. They were good but I like mine with cheese and stuff and the collard greens were good. The deviled eggs were bomb especially the relish ones. This was our first time and not our last. read more

We loved the former Hook Line and Sinker and we are definitely warming up to Nelson's. The food is very good, as well as the service. We had some terrific oysters there the other night while dining with friends. Each time we try Nelson's it gets better and I think it's found it's footing. Good work guys and gals. read more

They serve some of the best crab cakes in the metroplex. The drinks are always on point. The service is always top notch. Tiffany is our favorite server. We couldn't ask for a anything more. read more

We have eaten at Nelson's twice and both times it was excellent. We've had the steak and frites, the salmon and asparagus, the crab cakes and salads and all were good. Not only is the food good, but "Nelson" (don't know if it is his first or last name) is there both running a hundred miles an hour making sure everything is perfect while also making time to visit. Last night we sat at the bar and he shared his vision for the restaurant while preparing drinks and assisting the servers. On our first visit, his girlfriend was our server. This leads to good service and attention to detail. If you are tired of the chains and looking for a good neighborhood restaurant, Nelson's won't disappoint. read more

Fantastic Food & Drinks! Don't pass up the deviled eggs! Smoked Old Fashion! Love the skinny fries!

Three stars for the friendly staff, nice presentation of food, and the fried catfish. It has a fresh ambiance and plenty of seating. The fish was fresh and tasty. The shrimp in the fried basket were just mediocre. They would have tasted better had they not been butterflied. The shrimp gumbo was meh.....I found several shrimp that were not deveined. Yuck. My shrimp tacos were just a mess. The shrimp was way over cooked and rubbery. The flavors didn't meld well together. Since this is a "seafood" restaurant, I would think the chef would know to devein shrimp and not overcook them when they're sautéed. Doubtful that we would return. read more

We were lucky enough to enjoy a private party tasting at Nelson's. The stuffed shrimp and crab cakes were to die for. I always know a restaurant knows southern comfort food when they can nail a ramalaude sauce. It made me excited for what was to come still. The catfish, the steak, even the salads were wonderful. The cornbread tasted almost just like mine, which was my grandmothers recipe... another sign they know southern comfort food! The service was so friendly and absolutely A+++. The owner even stopped by to thank us for visiting and explain their concept. I feel as if this place is so underrated but I kind of want it to stay that way (selfishly spoken as a foodie). However, you have to go and experience it! PS- when you get to dessert, order both the carrot cake and chocolate mouse cake. You will want to experience both... trust me! Enjoy!!! read more

Great place great owner! Love the drinks and food. You need to give this place a shot!

Best fried okra ever!!! Collard greens were spectacular and the salmon was fresh and delicious. Good service, and the owner came to check on our table. Will definitely be back!! read more

Friday night dinner - grilled red fish so tender with side spring mix salad excellent. Friend at the table had steak which he also said juicy/ tasty. (Other friend before we arrived had shrimp poppers at happy hour, delicious.)Wait staff and owner's hospitality warm and welcoming. This place is still somewhat unknown- which meant no wait on a Friday night - I suspect once people try this menu, could end up more crowded. I will be back to eat dinner again on the cool shaded patio. read more

Excellent seafood and steaks. Extremely excellent and friendly service. We have been here 3 times and have tried different items each time and never hacer been disappointed. Try it, you will love this place. read more

This is a fun find. The decor is semi casual and the quality of the food top grade. The prices are very fair. Met the owner on our visit and really liked him and approach. We had the sampler first and then I had the steak while my wife had a chicken sandwich. All fantastic especially the wrapped shrimp and crab cakes. read more

6/28/2019: Had to lower my rating (See Original Below). The fish offerings here are great. The steaks...not so much. My wife's strip was fine but my rib eye, "still had marks from where the jockey was hitting it." Nothing wrong with the execution but 44 farms did not do Nelson's any favors by selling them those rib eyes. Bad meat happens, but whats was really disappointing was our poor waiter and his support. Poor guy was lost all night and they were not busy at all. When we finally tracked someone down to pay and leave they lost my debit card. OK, things happen. No one got angry or acted like an entitled brat or anything close, but when my wife got up from the table to find one of the two managers and my debit card, abra cadabra, poof! They were no where to be found. I mean vanished. I know that restaurant space and they flat out went and hid somewhere. We could not be more easy going. We were leaving for vacation the next day and just wanted to pay and leave. My wife sat back down and I got her to calm down and in about 15 minutes the waiter reappeared with my card, the bill and a very poor excuse about the time. Something about being in the weeds. 4 tables 2 waiters, 2 managers (one on the pass maybe sous chef) and 2 bussers...what weeds. Anyway, very disappointing. Managers should have handled the situation in some manner other than hiding and hoping we would pay our bill after their fiasco. We did pay in full without a fuss but left with a bad experience in the front of our mind regarding Nelson's. Mistakes happen, its how one handles them that makes all the difference. Original Review: Salmon cesar salad was fantastic! Simple well crafted ingredients. Didn't try to reinvent the wheel. The piece of salmon could not have been cooked any more perfect. Precise perfect execution on that fish. The staff could not have been better either. Polite, prompt, and professional. I look forward to returning and trying the rest of their menu. Great job Nelson's. I hope others take the leap and try it. read more

My husband found this place while searching for something new to try. We had minimal expectations as we had never heard of it before. We ended up having a great meal, every course we had was very good, the wine list was decent, and both the food and the wine were very fairly priced and I even liked their playlisI was a little disappointed that it wasn't busier on a Saturday night, I hope they do well. read more

Possibly the best food i've ever had. I would definitely give this restaurant a 10/10. Great customer service!

We went to Nelson's for our daughter's birthday, and it was absolutely fantastic! Great service, they really took care of all of us. The food was phenomenal...interesting choices (we had the elk), which was perfectly prepared, and the lobster bisque is to die for!! The key lime pie rivals any other in the city. Simply a great experience overall, would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

What a nice departure for this area. Finally a capable, fortifying, and well-adjusted addition to the North Preston corridor. Get the steak (from 44 Farms). Rib eye rules. Come at me bro. An unexpected surprise! We popped in for dinner Saturday night and the food was excellent. I had the steak frites which was very tender and flavorful. The rest of the parties meals were also excellent. We will be back. Good service and extremely clean and trendy space read more

I stopped by because of all the reviews, but my experience was somewhat of an expensive let down. This is casual dining not upscale by any means. You are seated at an unclothed table and given paper napkins. The crab cake was more like a flat patty than a cake, and the flavor was overwhelmed with peppers and green onions and for that 1 flat cake, it will cost you $16. The crab and lobster dip was too runny and was "eh" in flavor. There were some chunks of crab and lobster but you had to wade through the runny liquid to find it. The NY strip steak had all the right grill marks but once I tried to slice a bite, I immediately knew I was going to be disappointed. The meat was too tough and not enough salt and pepper would have given it enough flavor to enjoy it. The most disappointing (maddening) was that the side of lobster tail that was ordered, was braised in "buttered water" and the shell was not split opened for easy access. You had to use your hands and fingers and the back of your knife to crack open and to get to the lobster meat, and needless to say. Quite an unexpected mess. I wasn't even provided a bib or extra napkins for the mess. The key lime pie had a nice meringue but was also average - nothing to write home about. At the end of the meal and when the check came, I was somewhat extremely disappointed because this was a meal I could have gotten at the Outback Steakhouse for much less and probably better in flavors. read more

This is a one and done for me. Too many other places to spend my money. To start with one of my pet peeves. They brought my entree before I was finished with my appetizer. Staff needs better training. I ordered the Copper River Salmon. I looked the wait person in the eye and asked that it be cooked medium rare. I said"don't over cook my fish"! You got it, dry as shoe leather. read more

What a restaurant! Nelson's consistently exceeds our expectations, time after time. My family and I have been dinning here at Nelson's since it first opened and have continued to come back because of the excellent service, modest pricing, wonderful atmosphere, but above all the food. Either Adam or Jordan usually serve my family when we come to dine, and are consistent in providing excellent and friendly service. Our glasses are never left empty and courses are timed perfectly every time. Brian (the owner/ general manager) is a dedicated young business owner bringing a vibrant dinning experience to the North Dallas area. It is refreshing to see an owner/operator with such a passion for his industry. His dedication to fantastic food and exceedingly excellent service, radiates throughout the staff and is made apparent in each dish. Nelson's menu is a great mix of steak, fish, salads, and sandwiches that changes with the season. Just when I think I've tried everything, there is a new dish ready to take my tastebuds to town! A favorite of mine is the Elk tenderloin. Having tried Elk only once before, (being less than impressed) I was reluctant to give it a try.I was pleasantly surprised by how tender and flavorful the dish was and will likely order it on my next visit. The atmosphere is casual, while maintaining an air of elegance. The coupling of excellent food and casual atmosphere is part of what makes this place such a gem. Nelson's is a place one can always count on for great food, dependable service, and intimate date night vibes. Ten stars, two thumbs up, and full bellies! read more

This is one of my favorite places in our neighborhood. I am addicted to their chicken club sandwich. Definitely worth a try.

What a gem! Nelson's was the perfect spot for an impromptu date night. My hubs and I are pescatarians, and honestly Nelson's is the place to go for high quality and delicious seafood. We started with half a dozen east coast oysters. They were so yummy and came with all the usual fixings. They weren't fishy or grainy as oysters can sometimes be. Next, I opted for the scallops with mushrooms and mixed greens. The greens were not dressed so it almost seemed like it was more for display, but the scallops came in a rich lemon dill sauce and the sautéed mushrooms were a more unique mushroom sautéed to perfection. The scallops were cooked perfectly, very buttery and melted in my mouth. My husband got the red snapper that came with asparagus and and heirloom tomato medley. It was also incredibly delicious and cooked perfectly. We chose to get a turtle cheesecake for dessert; this was a great choice! I'm kind of a cheesecake snob since my family owned a bakery and makes killer cheesecakes, but Nelson's didn't disappoint. The service was also really great. Our server was attentive and kind. It wasn't busy (I don't know if this is a typical Thursday night), but the 4 or 5 other tables present were distanced from one another. We opted to sit on the patio for extra safety. It was a perfect date night out. read more
