Ha! It took Covid-19 to finally (involuntarily) convince a couple of "out-of-work chefs" to make some more than decent pastéis de nata (Portuguese egg tarts) in NYC. Truthfully we haven't had any this authentic since... well since we were in Portugal. Sure, they deliver breads and other confections in the Brooklyn area, but if you want the egg tarts you're gonna have to hit up their Instagram page, order online, and pick them up in person in Clinton Hill.
And don't be put off just because you can't pronounce pastéis de nata. You can also order their excellent focaccia, cookies, and other pastries which are just as good (try the cardamom buns). Pro tip: you can also just call them Portuguese egg tarts and avoid all the embarrassment.
Anyways, I hope these guys decide to make this a permanent thing even when Covid-19 goes away. It's that good... read more
