I've eaten here many times. My go to favorites are the jerk chicken sandwich, ox tail dinner, chicken soup, and beef patty. Everything on the menu will have something to suit the taste for most people. What I enjoy most with the food is pairing it with their real fruit punch. I mean real, if these were blended with ice it would become a smoothie and that's how real the real fruit punch is, but it still has the viscous refreshing experience you get from drinking a cold beverage. What brings me back are the beef patties, nice flaky plump beef patties. I've probably eaten hundreds of them over the last few years. Wow, if we did not really want the patties - we would have walked out. Where to begin - walked in. No one in line but several tables with customers enjoying their meals. Walked up to register, lady did not say a word. Just looked at us, I actually said 'hello' first, she still didn't respond. I then turned to my husband on what kind we should get? So he starts telling her a few of beef, a few of jerk chicken, and a curry chicken, all patties. She rang up the order. Turned around and place them all in 4 different bags. And just handed us the bag. At this point, still - Not a word from her at all. No smile, No thank you, No have a good night. Food is okay, not the best, not even going back the next time we're in town. Oh yes - so we are tourist but the D-M-V Area is our home. And we have been to the original Negril in Silver Spring years ago and was treated with good customer service. Okay, now this lady that we're talking about. I did not notice her name. But she's older with purple-ish' reddish hair on braids, thick pieces of braids or cornrows, shoulder length. She should really smile sometimes, at least pretend you're happy to be at work, or much less- have a job to go to. Customer Service goes a long way. I really enjoy the chicken soup and coco bread they sell here. As a Jamaican those two things taste very authentic. However I ordered curry chicken and it did not taste authentic at all in fact it tasted like they just throw the curry seasoning on top of the chicken after it finished cooking. I also hate how long it takes to get anything besides something small. One time I waited 40 minutes for some food. I still support bc I really love the chicken soup and patty/coco bread. read more

This place is like the twilight zone, enter if you dare... I've been here many times and had many weird experiences. The first was when I tried placing an order with the tall young dude behind the counter. I asked if I could get a curry chicken pattie with rice and peas and vegetables. He said "you want oxtail and rice and peas?" This went on for about 5 minutes of me repeating my order and him repeating back something that didn't even sound close to what I said. It sounds silly but after a while I got agitated. After this experience and the fact that it takes forever for your food to come out, I vowed to only call my order in and pick it up. Hoping for the least amount of interaction with their lackluster employees as possible. The next time I got a craving for jamaican food was this past Saturday so I googled their number and called. The woman Kericha answered the phone and asked if I could hold. I did...for five minutes, then I heard tustling with the phone. They picked up the phone then hung up. I was already on the way so I parked and went inside. Theres two registers and one line that each cashier was pulling from. They called for the lady in front of me then I was next. Next, an older lady enters the restaurant, walks in front of me, then she hops in the line. The first thing that caught my attention was the fact that this was a middle aged woman that just walked no more than 2-3 feet in front of me and did not say excuse me. I just shook my head. I'm noticing this a lot in public. No one has manners anymore. Not even the older people. But this is the world we're living in. When I noticed that she was messing up the line, I tried to get her attention, I said "Ma'am" she ignored me and I said it again until she looked my way. "Ma'am they are pulling from this line." What happened from here was something I've never experienced before. This (at least 45 year old) woman went off on me causing a scene. When I got to the register, I told Kericha about the experience I had on the phone. She said she picked up the phone, said Hello? and didn't get a response so she hung up. I told her all I heard was someone hanging up. She apologized. Cool. At the same time I have this older lady still arguing with me because SHE bust in the line. I guess she thought I wasn't going to say anything. She kept going on and on. Even told me I have the devil in me. I told Kericha that I will not be returning because the customer service has been rude in the past and now I see their customers are also rude. I was given my food. Kericha apologized again. But for the sake of my peace, I will not be returning. The food is not worth all of this. I thought my boyfriend was joking when he said this place had a bad vibe. read more

Will never come back here again! Waited in line for 15 mins while the slowest cashier rang ppl up. Waited another 30 mins for my food to get done and the shrimp were cooked very tough. After seeing a lady fuss with the the slowest cashier and the manager (who was visibly shook after the incident) there was no telling how much longer my food would take. They were calling numbers from 59 and my # being 109, it was clear that they were unorganized; valuing the time of their patrons is another issue. I'm surprised this place got as many patrons as it did while I was there and I assume it may have just been a bad day. I just won't be going back to find out if it gets better. I hadn't found good Jamaican food since I moved to MD but one of my employees suggested I try Negril, I was scared because typically I prefer mom and pop Jamaican spots rather than chain locations but I was craving jerk and had to give it a try. The customer service was GREAT and they were quick to get the orders in. The have traditional Jamaican sodas which I love. Awesome menu selections - and my jerk chicken plate was only $8.95. The jerk sauce was amazing, the chicken was a little dry but still flavorful. I got white rice rather than rice and peas. The cabbage was lacking something for me, it wasn't flavorful enough but was still a good addition to the meal. All in all I think I'll be back to give them a second try. read more

Hate to be a jerk (har har) but this place gets 2 stars from me. Barely. It used to be Red Snappaz - which was quite good actually - and the food is a major downgrade. Food - I used to love Negril in Silver Spring, especially their jerk chicken sandwich. Unbeknownst to me, the quality of the food at the SS location has gone down over the past year, so I visited Negril with fairly lofty expectations. The jerk chicken ($8.25), served with rice and peas and salad or steamed cabbage, is roasted, flavorless, and dry. While the rice and peas are good, they shouldn't be the best thing on the plate for a carnivore. The beef patties ($1.90) are good but not that much better than what you'd find in 7-11 or the freezer section of a Costco. The only redeeming factor was the fricassee chicken ($7.95) - curried chicken with a delectable sauce. The chicken was tender, the skin was roasted to perfection, and the flavor of the curry was excellent. And for that, I give them an extra star. For sides, I'd go with the salad - the cabbage was pretty bland. They offer a hot sauce, which is essentially crushed habanero peppers in vinegar, which isn't very flavorful, but adds a nice kick. Location - plenty of seating indoors. They have take-home boxes of beef patties, but like I said, stick with Costco. Service - was decent. Food took roughly 5-10 minutes to prepare. If you're in the mood for Jerk chicken in Laurel, I'd head to Aunt Susan's kitchen, or drive a bit further to Just Jerk in Lanham, which is my go-to for Jerk chicken in the area. Nothing impressive here. From my understanding, Negril started off at a flagship location and expanded to two additional locations (including this one) and as a result, lost a significant bit of its authenticity in the process. Whenever I'm buying ethnic food from a restaurant, I'm a stickler for staff that come from the country of said of restaurant's specialty. Here at this particular location, I'm not sure if even one person is from JA. Sad. And you can taste it too. While the food is by no means terrible, it doesn't hit you with that POW that great, homecooked Caribbean food from the homeland does. It's good, but nothing to write home about. I came here tonight for dinner and was very disappointed in the quality of the food. The restaurant was clean and the employees were friendly. For dinner I had the curry chicken entree. It came with potatoes, a large amount of rice, and a very small amount of vegetables. The chicken was very under seasoned and the curry was watered down. The vegetables had no seasoning at all and were very bland. Not to mention that the chefs were Mexican which wouldn't have been a bad thing if the food was awesome. Not saying you have to be Jamaican to cook great jamaican food but someone who's had some experience cooking it or is familiar with jamaican food would be ideal in this case. I went there a few months ago and was not disappointed. The food was fresh and hot, and they give you a decent amount per serving. I definitely enjoyed the oxtail the most. Ok so my boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat. He wanted beef patties so we decided to come here for some patties. When we walked in we decided to share a entree together and beef patties. The nice lady at the front told us they had lunch specials going on. We ordered a jerk drumette platter it came with rice with some yellow sauce, cabbage I asked for on the side my boyfriend don't eat vegetables, and the chicken. I expected it to be all drumette but it came with few whole wings. The meat just fell off the bones so we just separated the meat and mixed it in with the rice. It was a pretty bit bland for my opinion of jerk seasoning but overall was a good meal. The cabbage was just steamed cabbage nothing special. But eat the cabbage while its hot when it's cold it had a funky smell to it. The patties were on the crisper side. I prefer soft patties from 7/11 with hot sauce. But the filling was good it had a decent amount of spice and kick to the patties. I could adapt to the crisper beef patties from here. It was very cheap to the lunch special was only $6.00 for a decent amount of food. The portions weren't little it filled us both with only 1 entree. The beef patties were a little over a dollar. Plus we ordered a fruit punch not a big fan it tasted a bit funky to me. In total we paid $15.00 for a entree, drink, 3 beef patties. I felt really sad when they said they didn't have any hot sauce. Seriously no hot sauce? I always eat all my foods with hot sauce especially my beef patties. Next time I am so bringing my own hot sauce just incase. If your looking for a place with decent beef patties, fast entrees with a decent portion for under $10. Then this is the place for you. I don't understand why this place got such low reviews. We originally went to this plaza for a different restaurant and only then saw Negril. I'm so happy we chose to order from here. The curry goat and jerk chicken didn't disappoint.
