On a first visit, I enjoyed the inexpensive, flavorful homestyle cooking. A substantial portion of jerk chicken, rice + beans, and cabbage, with extra jerk sauce on the side for just $9 + tax. Considering a burrito from a chain would cost this much, and this place is both local and a less common cuisine, the money is better spent here. And there's even lower prices on several dishes during lunchtime (until 3pm). The beef patty was less impressive, but I also reheated it hours later so that might have been my fault. My only complaints: I prefer a plate to a takeout style container, and water isn't available on the customer side of the counter. It's in a strange older shopping center, but there's plenty of free parking. There was reggae playing, scenes from Jamaica on the walls, and a steady trickle of customers during my late afternoon visit. Staff were friendly and efficient. I almost didn't try this place, based on the mixed reviews here, but I had it on my list from a long-ago WaPo rave review. I don't know if those reviewers had unrealistic expectations for $9, or hit on a bad day, or what. I'm glad I visited. read more

I ordered through Uber eats and spent a significant amount of money ( over $80.00) because I was babysitting and couldn't leave the house. Food was delivered in a timely fashion however, some items were missing. I called and spoke to someone who acknowledged that they did not have any at the time. She said that I can come and get it now or any other day. She said just explain what happened and they would give me what was missing. Well, I am so disappointed in how they fix their own mistakes. She was apologetic, however, time and gas equals money. On top of that, I called back the next day to tell them that I was coming to pick up what was mine and I had to explain several times as if they didn't believe me. When I said that I should be compensated for losing time, gas, and being disappointed, they said "sorry, the manager is the only one who could offer anything but is not here." Ordered Jerk Chicken Dinner & Oxtail Side and I can't believe I haven't tried this place that's literally down the street from me. 3 stars on yelp and checking the reviews on here made me a little worried and cautious to order from here BUT I said whatever if it's bad I'll just grab a refund from DD. What has happened to this place? Years ago it was great. This is my third and last time giving (and I do mean giving) these folks my money: Ordered Two dinners - Goat and Curry Chicken. To this day, still can't find the goat or the chicken...guess they're swimming in the abundance of liquids they gave me. All bones folks...lots of cabbage and peas and rice...but very little chicken and goat. Taste was mediocre... they seem to season on the spot as opposed to marinating (never a good sign). Oh well another - and final - trip to Laurel. Did they change ownership? Recipes? Cooks? All of the above? I'm on a mission to find a Jamaican five star within say 20 miles. Great Customer Service, Great Food! I walked in to order some food. I ordered my entree and a patty. Tamara B was my cashier, she offered me options for my entree, showed me your platter sizes for clarity on my order. I was done with my order and she asked if I wanted a drink. I said yes! I got a fresh fruit Soursop Juice. What I liked about this transaction was that I complemented her attitude behind the register in an always busy Negril and her response was - "I am here to Sell and Serve, that's what good customer service is about!" she kept a smile the entire time and she is absolutely right! Don't waste your money or time. This is the most unacceptable, unoriginal, unauthentic Jamaican eatery. If I had never been to Jamaica I may have been fooled... but I've been about 4 times and I love Jamaica! I think they tried to commercialize the process, but loss something in the mix. I just tried a few staples that should have been really good and they weren't. I had actually been warned by someone about 3 months ago that this was not the place to go..but I'm a gluten for punishment. I've honestly had better patties from the freezer section at sams club when they use to carry the jerk patties. The coco bread tasted like it had been frozen for three days. Well that's all. I'm not sure what some of the reviewer's experiences are but I used to go to downtown Silver Spring just to go to this place in the 80's and my food was on point. I had the chicken roti and friend got the chicken curry platter. They don't have a lot of jerk but the chicken in my roti was tender, moist, and good- no bones. It's a classic curry and with some of their hot sauce, is one of best roti I have had in other Jamaican places. The platter had bones but everything was tender and the rice and beans cooked perfectly. They do have a limited menu, but the beef patties are also delicious, mine had just came out of the oven. I wish the staff were more friendly, but I ordered and sat at a table and ...for just a little while... I felt like was in Jamaica. read more

Negril never disappoints and continues to live up to it's strong reputation of preparing and serving tasty Jamaican dishes. This time, I ordered their chicken soup which had just the right level of "kick" (seasoning) to it and a generous helping of food and chicken in the soup. The brown stew chicken was tasty and nicely seasoned. My special treat today were the calaloo patties which were simply delicious....I love the crust on those patties. I could not leave Negril without trying the rum cake as my desert and that was a special treat. The best rum cake ever...very moist and with the right level of rum! The restaurant staff are very pleasant and we enjoyed our eat-in experience, in their newly remodeled restaurant. We look forward to eating at Negril when next we visit Maryland! read more

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon to pick up lunch around noon. My 1st visit here. Got there at a lucky time since the people started flowing in after I'd placed my order. Ordering was easy. I enjoyed the beautiful accent of the lady who appeared to be the owner. She spoke to another customer there familiarly and I could tell this place is a local favorite and the owner/staff are treating customers as such. It was nice to see and experience I had a beef patty and jerk chicken wings (appetizer on the menu). I enjoyed both very much. The crust on the patty is what I love most and this one didn't disappoint. The wings were jerky spicy but not crazy hot and nicely cooked. Service was speedy as well. I've lived in the area for the last 2 years and every single time I have given this place a try it's so disappointing. My goodness it's so bad. It taste like they reheat the food the next day that didn't sell. I know how fresh rice and plantains taste. I need my Jerk Chicken at least once a week. Negril has been my go-to for about 10 years. I've been to three of their locations, maybe a 4th on Florida Ave. I am always greeted as a friend. At the Laurel location, Karicha will greet you with a genuine smile. She has served members of my family and business associates. Besides the friendly atmosphere, the food is excellent. I am stuck on jerk chix, rice beans and veggies. If I wasn't so fat, I'd get a coco bread. The chix is always cooked to perfection and moist. The jerk sauce is flavorful, consistent and plentiful.
