    Stew chicken -lunch special
    Kyrsten S.

We went in for the lunch special one day and were greeted by a very nice young lady at the register. The restaurant was clean, and bright, with eye catching photos on the walls. The music was playing but it wasn't extra loud. The tv was on so people could watch the race. It was nice. The food was good. Chicken was very tender and fell off the bones. There was a lot of rice in the bowls, we personally wanted a little more chicken and sauce or even veggies. The two juices were good, I mixed them, but there was no ice so it wasn't cold. I got the callaloo pate and it was good.

Jerk chicken, rice n peas, plantain, cabbage - small lunch size

Some of the most tasteless Jamaican food I've had in the area. The rice had no flavor. The chicken wasn't bad but it was more like griiled or bake chicken with jerk sauce vs chicken actually jerked. The cabbage had mixed vegetables in it like the kind you buy frozen that has peas, corn and cubed carrots. Seems real short cut like cooking to me. This was my first time getting a meal here and it was disappointing. I got the small lunch size and it costs $12 I think. I've gotten the patties numerous times and they're very good. Crust is flaky with decent filling. I'll stick to patties from now on.

Good : Lots of Parking outside, very clean restaurant - but they're not wearing mask ( I don't really care but some might ), Staff is very friendly and the lady at the counter didn't hesitate to answer any questions I had. I asked for sauce for the Salt Fish Pattie and the lady said it wouldn't need it, and she was absolutely right, one of the best Pattie's I've ever had! Can be better : Everything included with the Curry Chicken meal was fresh and hot, but lacked that secondary depth of flavor. Could use a tad bit more seasoning. Going to give them another chance and will probably order their oxtails next.

Oxtail weren't good. Beef patty was hard. Not sure if I will return for a second chance. Customer service was okay. Clean restaurant.

Foos was delicious! Ordered the ackee and saltfish with fry dumpling. The quantity of food for price is why I didn't give 5

I've ordered twice from this restaurant. Flavoring reminds me of a home cooked meal, Really authentic. But very small serving of protein.

I was finally in the area and got a chance to go in person and wow, the experience of eating the food fresh there was even better - although I must say this food does travel very well. I wish I caught the young man's name, who was the cashier, but he was great! He was very friendly, just seemed like a good, hardworking kid. I wanted a classic so I just got the gyro platter, the Greek fries and the soup. The soup is so good and reminds me of my favorite Greek place back home in chicago, I used to eat this type of soup every weekend with my family. Ingredients are fresh here and quality is always A1. The Greek fries are my favorite and a guilty pleasure. They are so flavorful and have the best texture. The gyro was also very filling and they really don't skimp out here with their toppings. I'm an extra sauce kinda gal and here, they really just go above and beyond without you ever needing to ask them. I wish I had a closer location in DC! The is my first review of November so I'm behind but will be catching up soon...lol But back to Mad…read moreCow I came on yesterday (11/9/25) around 1pm to meet up with some friends for Brunch. Usually with brunch we would do the bottomless mimosas and all but because I was driving I decided not to participate in that. And usually I would get chicken and waffles but I was in the mood for a burger. So I thought because their name is "Mad Cow" the burger would be the bomb...but nope it was not good at all. So I prefer a beef burger cooked medium with blue cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, and onions. When I burger got tot the table it was dry as a board. No blue cheese that I paid extra for and the burger was not cooked correctly it was cooked well done. Smdh. So the waiter brought me my blue cheese apologized about it and also gave me a mayo bottle. Even with the burger still was not good and the patty was so thick with no flavor not even salt and pepper was in it!! I tried their punch drink which was really good but for $15 a pop in a regular water glass was ridiculous. Make sure you don't get too tipsy as they already have like a 20% gratuity added on each of our checks no matter how small or big your group is which again is ridiculous! Will I come back...maybe only because I would like to try some Jamaican food they offer. But for brunch...it's a no for me!

Today, I gave them another shot because Uber Eats was offering a buy one, get one free deal on the jerk chicken meal. I chose rice & peas with plantain for my sides. The chicken was cooked on the grill--which I love--because it really brings out the flavor in jerk chicken. I also requested my jerk sauce on the side since I prefer a dry rub style over a saucy one. The only drawback was the small bone pieces in the chicken and rice. That's something to be cautious about, especially if a child is eating the meal. The plantains were also inconsistent--some pieces were hard, while others were mushy. On the bright side, the coco bread was perfect and the Jamaican rum cake was phenomenal. Whoever baked that cake clearly took their time soaking it in rum. It reminded me of the way my grandmother used to make it--absolutely delicious. I would definitely order the rum cake again.

We were headed to Amber Spice for a late lunch, and fortunately, we made it in before the 2:45pm cutoff (I called ahead to check). Since it was almost lunch closing, they did request that we place our orders soon after being seated. We already knew what we wanted to order, so we didn't feel rushed otherwise. We started with the veggie samosas ($6, two pieces), which were served with the traditional tamarind sauce and spicy cilantro chutney. The samosas were packed with the potato and pea filling and had a lightly crisp exterior. They were as good as any. For my entree, I ordered the butter chicken ($20), which is served with a side of basmati rice. When ordering, the waiter didn't ask about spice level. I did find their butter chicken to have some heat to it, but it wasn't anything crazy - I'd say a 3/10 for spiciness - I felt the warmth. The chicken was super tender and moist. I would be happy getting this again. I also ordered the garlic naan ($5), because you have to have something to sop up the curry goodness. The naan was hot and fresh; you could also taste the garlic. One basket came with four pieces (one whole naan), which is perfect for sharing. I finished the meal with the gulab jamun ($6) for dessert which came with three pieces of the fried dough balls served in a sweet syrup. My friend ordered the mango kulfi and loved it! She described it as a mango lassi, but frozen, which made it that much more light and refreshing. Amber Spice is a casual dining spot and it has the service to match. We were brought a carafe of water for the table to start, so it was self-serve the rest of the way. Food was brought out quickly and plates were cleared at the end, but we weren't checked on during the meal. Perhaps since we arrived near lunch closing, service was winding down, but we got what we needed. I enjoyed the food here and would come again. Everything that we had was not only super tasty, but also reasonably priced. There's also plenty of parking in the shopping center.

I asked for recommendations, although I knew I was going to get their infamous Lolipop Chicken. It lived up to the hype! While a tad pricey for one person, the portion is HUGE and I will have leftovers for days! The chicken was piping hot and flavorful. I also love noodles, and recently hand pulled noodles. You can literally hear them slapping around your noodles in the kitchen! I also ordered the spicy seafood soup, which was recommended. I liked the chicken a little more than the soup, but the soup was a large portion as well and very shareable. I washed my meal down with a Korean beer.

The prices in other areas like Flushing, NY are a bit better, but i felt like I found a solid spot. The texture of the dumplings were moist & the dumpling sauce was very good with the ginger. I came a couple of weeks ago confident I was going to get the same taste, but the flavors aren't always consistent as well as the dumpling itself. They were smaller in size & tougher to bite into. I usually am at a comfortable "full" feeling after one order, but by the time I was finished with one order I felt hungrier.. lol I literally went to go eat EXPEDITIOUSLY after. This spot is located inside of Kung Fu Tea, which makes it feel more like a quick stop than a sit-down place. I believe they have a standalone location elsewhere and honestly, a bit more ambiance would help. The Columbia location, for example, feels much cozier. I'd love to see more consistency in the dumplings themselves. The Mala dumplings can be really good one day and not as great the next. Still, I think they're worth trying if you're nearby and craving something quick! 10/10 experience overall when they're fresh and hot. Here's the order of perfection: 1 (Red) Mala Chicken - 20/10 perfection. 2 (White) Pork - another 20/10, absolutely solid. 3 (Black) Truffle & Pork - 15/10, rich and earthy. 4 (Green) Shrimp - 8/10, still enjoyable but lighter. 5 (Yellow) Chicken - 6/10 (it kinda tasted like the smell of tap water at first ).
