Awesome, local, small business. Big store, packed with all the necessities, plus a bunch more you normally wouldn't dream of finding in a pharmacy. Great selection of products, not just your run-of-the-mill commercial schwag. Friendly and helpful staff, too. I haven't been up there yet, but apparently there is a 2nd floor with kids' stuff and toys. Awesome. If you're not yet convinced that this place is superior in every way to the train wreck CVS on 9th Street or the depressing Rite Aid just down the street, I should also mention that Neergaard is OPEN 24 HOURS. This place has everything! Well I guess they don't have cold drinks, unless I totally missed them, which has been known to happen. Besides having all the products you could need, their pharmacy is organized, quick and professional. I actual prefer Neergarrd Pharmacies over the Rite-Aid a block down. They may be a little cramped, but it's organized, the employees are always nice, and it's clean which I can't really say about Rite-Aid. read more

Neergaard is about 500x better than the ill-stocked Rite Aid located up the street. The pharmacists I've talked to are happy to answer questions and, one night when I came in with a nasty burn on my finger, helped me find the right type of over-the-counter cream for it. I would give it 5 stars, but a tiny pet peeve: the prices are only located on the tags on the items themselves, not on the shelves. So sometimes it's harder to compare prices than in a chain drugstore where you can just scan the shelves. That said, Neergaard is 24/7 and a local business. Please go support it! read more

Completely awesome. Never had been here before, instead going to the local pharmacy around the corner from me. When the local pharmacy (I live in the North Slope area) didn't have what I needed (an air cast for my sprained ankle) AND wouldn't bill my insurance for it, Neergaard came through, and even direct billed my health insurance for it! Seemed that they had a quite large variety of other things, even though I didn't really look around - just went to the back surgical supplies counter and took a seat there. They made me feel very welcome, and made me feel really good supporting a local business. read more

Really great pharmacy with friendly staff and a great selection of items. I have never had any issues getting prescriptions filled here and the pickup tends to go faster than at the other pharmacy nearby. They can help you out for slings and crutches and such too and I think you can get wheelchairs at this location as well. They have a very random selection of European candies. They used to sell Balisto bars but stopped carrying them since I was the only one buying. They also have Fishermen's Friends (move over Altoids). read more

Their prices are higher, but who doesn't want to support a mom and pop? Well, me, now. If there is one thing a chain store does right, it accepts damaged merchandise without accusing you of lying. I bought a nose-hair trimmer (a nose-hair trimmer!) on Saturday. I tried to open the package on Sunday and put the battery in, and the thing just fell apart. So I tried to return it on Monday, with receipt, in original packaging. i said, "It fell apart when I opened it." The nasty woman behind the counter: "There's no way you bought it like this." Me: "No, I didn't. It fell apart when I opened it." Her: "I can't take this back." Me: "Why?" Her: "Because you didn't buy it like this. You wouldn't have bought it broken like this." Me: "I didn't buy it like this. It broke as soon as it came out of the packaging." Her: "I don't think so." Me: "Are you accusing me of lying?" Her: "I'm not accusing you of lying, but I'm not taking it back because you didn't buy it like this." Fantastic. Way to stand behind your shitty product. You thwarted my plan to run off with my $10 return and start a new life, full of untrimmed nose hair. I'm officially boycotting this store. Never again. read more

COVID-19 denier. I had a strange experience with the pharmacist at Neergard on 5th Ave, Brooklyn. Our dog has severe epilepsy and needs daily medication. Any interruption would put her immediately in very high danger. We are trying to take reasonable precautions in the event of a severe coronavirus epidemic in NYC. After discussion with our vet, he prescribed us a 3-months supply, so we wouldn't run out. Friday evening (2/28), I went to fill this at Neergard on 5th Ave. They were only willing to fill 1 month. When I asked why, they said I needed to talk to the pharmacist, which I then did. He asked me why I wanted a 3-months supply, and I explained. He then said that my concern about the virus was just hysteria, that there were maybe 2 cases in the US, and that the whole thing would be over "next week". I asked him on what he was basing this. He didn't answer, and instead asked what I was basing my concern on (I mentioned the CDC). He also stated that the stock market was manipulated, and that one really should look at the 900 point gain in the last 2 hours of trading on Friday. I'm going to use a different pharmacy in the future. read more

The pharmacy counter here sure is busy. I had to stop in to drop off and pick up a prescription as quickly as possibly for my aunt who was being discharged from a same day procedure. I handed in the prescription along with the insurance cad and let them know the person had just been discharged. I was asked if the person had filled prescriptions there before and I replied that I believe the person had. Once they verified it, I was told 45 minutes. I like the fact they are open 24 hours. Not many places in the area are open like that and certainly the only pharmacy. I asked if they could rush it The person who took my prescription sad they would try butt hey were really busy. WhenI looked around I could see that. I went out for a walk, staying in 5th avenue, no further south than 16 STreet and no further north than 4 Street. Chiming in with another bad pharmacy experience. Had an asthma RX transferred from another pharmacy, where the drug was out of stock. Confirmed that it had been faxed with both pharmacies. Arrived at neergaard to find that they didn't have--or couldn't find-- the RX. This was a backup inhaler for us, but for another family desperate for asthma meds....GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. They don't care if your kid can't breathe. read more

I came home from the hospital recently with a broken leg and sent my husband straight to Neergaard for my prescriptions. At the same time I called the 5th Avenue store and asked about a transfer bench (to use while showering). They connected me to the right dept who said they had the bench in stock and could deliver it within 2 days. It actually came the very next day... and no charge for delivery! That made it so easy. Neergaard has proven over and over to be a great neighborhood resource for medicine, baby supplies, gifts and all kinds of things. I can't think of any other nearby place that has medical equipment. My friend even got an emergency oxygen tank there for her visiting mother. I am so, so grateful for this wonderful, family owned pharmacy. read more

I will never go back to this pharmacy again, and I try to not use the word "never". The worse experience ever, I went for my 81 year old mother to get her some supplies with her OTC card. I go to check out at the front and was told that I have to go to the pharmacy because it's an OTC card. When I get to the pharmacy the cashier is on her cell phone, sees me and walks away, still on her cell phone. Now there's no one there to cash my items. I wait and wait, I finally ask the pharmacist if someone can help me, he says no I have to wait. He finally feels sorry for me and comes over but can't help me but can't because he doesn't know how to ring up an OTC card. After 10 minutes the cashier comes back with a nasty attitude, tells me the card isn't working... doesn't apologize for the wait.,, just a stink nasty attitude. I ask for my mothers prescription she tells me there's nothing there for her, the last prescription was 2/5/21. My mother calls the next day and they say yeah you have a prescription. This was absolutely hands down the worse experience ever! I told my mother never again. I left there with only a headache! read more

I went to Neergaard to find a surgical boot. They sent me to a rather unpleasant guy in the back who looked like he would rather be anywhere else... ME: Hi, do you carry surgical boots? GUY: It's going to be $100 ME: Can I see the boot to see if it's what I need, and if it fits? [GUY pulls up product page of boot on a different retailer's website, where it's selling for $59.99] GUY: This is the boot. ME: It says there that it's sixty bucks? GUY: If you want it for sixty, buy it there. Here it's $100. ME: Do you have it in stock so I can see if it's the right product and if it fits me properly? GUY: You need to tell me if you're buying it first. If you are, I'll go downstairs to get it. ME: Actually, I've decided not to buy anything here. I'm a fan of this place because Rob (one of the pharmacists) gives personal attention that you will never get anywhere else. He's smart and keeps track of what his customers needs are. He's always available to answer questions and his advice is reliable. Yes, there are some pharmacists behind the counter who are not the greatest. But I will always pick this place over the big stores (Rite Aid, Walgreens, etc.) that are impersonal and have high turnover. They just can't provide the same level of attention to my health concerns. read more

Okay, I used to live next door to this place, and I have to say, it is amazing. They have everything from organic shampoos to kids raincoats, to $2 puzzles. Pretty much exactly what you need from a 24-hour drugstore. The neighborhood is chock-full of chain drugstores, all of which were ALWAYS closed when I needed them (after 9PM). This place always came through in a pinch. This place is like a gift shop meets a pharmacy. As for the store part: I like that they have a lot of products that I can't find in mainstream pharmacies (nice lotions and soaps), an herbal remedy section etc. Pharmacy: The girl who took my script said that my insurance didn't cover a critical medication that is compounded in the pharmacy (even though I know that it is covered). She couldn't tell me how much it would be. Then she had me on the phone with my doctor and the insurance company - what a headache. Finally, I gave up and I just decided to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed through my insurance. After two hours of waiting and phone calls, she tells me that the grand total of my prescription is $12!!! SERIOUSLY?!?! All of that aggravation for $12. Why couldn't she just tell me that in the first place? read more

I came by the surgical/medical supply in the back of the store for help in preparing for my bilateral knee replacement. Lisa was knowledgeable and suggested several items (long shoe horn, sock device, grabber tool etc.) sold as a kit, and an elevated toilet seat. In addition, she recommended renting a lift chair/recliner. At first I was like, "um seems a little much for me", but she encouraged me to try it. As soon as I did I realized this item was essential for someone recovering from my surgery. Currently, I am typing this review from the lift chair recliner and I think it is an essential item for anyone undergoing the same surgery. It has been extremely helpful in my recovery and independence in my home! I've also used the items from the kit a lot. Both purchases were absolutely worth it. I looked around for the same rental chair service in Brooklyn and what I found was much more expensive per month with a delivery fee. Neergard delivered for free. I felt I was in good hands with Lisa and Neergard. Thanks! read more

The 2 stars is for the uncomfortable feeling the staff gives off when shopping there. I have come to this store on more than one occasion to purchase last minute gifts and pharmacy items and the staff follows me around the store and makes me feel like a criminal. I've even brought it up to one of them in a respectful manner but nothing changes. Too bad because they have a great selection of beauty/bath items which I love but I will go to cvs or rite aid with my business and pick up my beauty items in manhattan after work. My boyfriend has also made the same complaint and has been shopping at this pharmacy for many years even before the current owners owned it. read more

I find most pharmacies perfectly adequate, and as long as they are convenient I often have no particular loyalties. However, when it comes to getting something FAST, I have nothing but praise for these folks. My prescription-called-in to meds-in-hand time was under 15 minutes. And that's for a NEW patient. Kudos - I'm a new fan, even though it's not the closest pharmacy to me, I'll certainly be using them for my after-6-pm weekend needs and whenever I can't deal with the usual gum popping clueless perpetually pissed off tech girls at the national chains. read more

And they are not nice they pharmacy people are nicer but the front girls are always eating something and don't even say thank you after you spend your money !!!!! Whatever..... I stuck with Neergaard for a year while they continually let me down. If you are a patient like me who has to pick up multiple prescriptions each month, go elsewhere. They are not worth the stress and rude attitude. They continue to fill half of my prescriptions or not fill them at all, causing a very ill person to repeatedly come back time and time again. I have called in prescriptions by Rx number, called again to double check that it was actually filled, only to show up and they claim I never called it in in the first place. They have also filled a different prescription than I asked for and then making me wait 45minutes for their mistake. They also told me they would call my doctor for a refill and when i showed up it was never done, causing me to go on vacation with a subpar medication. The middle aged gentleman has been rude on multiple occasions and will blame the patient repeatedly for the pharmacy's mistakes. There are other mom and pop pharmacies that value customer service. 5 stars go to Ali (young guy with the glasses) for great customer service and doing his best to fix the damage done by the others. read more

I love all the upscale, organic creams, lotions and beauty products, as well as the natural cures, essential oils and gift selection. It's also very convenient that they are open 24 hours. Having said that, I like to go in there and just look at all the fabulous products (I haven't found any other place with such a range). I really hate the fact that one of the employees follows me from aisle to aisle (I assume to make sure I don't steal anything and not because he is enamored of me). One person is always standing in front of the counter near the entrance of this pharmacy. He peeks at you as if you are a potential shoplifer, a very unpleasant feeling. I also once bought an item which broke within a day. When I wanted to return it and asked for my money back, they refused to do that and I was told that I must not have used the item properly. I want to like Neergaard, I've tried to like them, for years! But they repeatedly: 1. fail to have my prescriptions ready when they said they would 2. don't know how to process the prescription/insurance and try to charge me more than I should be charged 3. Don't call and let me know about any problems, including #1 & 2 above! I will support local businesses, but only as long as they are relatively competent at their MAIN PURPOSE! I gave them one star because they are open 24 hours. But they've messed me up and caused frustration and hassles and lots of extra time spent too many times. Never again. read more

I don't really understand the poor reviews for this place. The people that work there are nice and if they charge incorrectly- it is fixed quickly without any yelling. The pharmacists are great and will first tell you if your script is out of pocket, so that you can call your doctor and try to get one that is covered. Also, they are the ONLY pharmacy that seems to actually carry all my medications. The few times that they have been out, they have the meds ready the following day. read more

This review is basically regarding the pharmacy in the back. When you need a prescription filled at 2 in the morning and you have just left the emergency room, this place has been a lifesaver! The pharmacists ate very helpful and knowledgable. The lady pharmacist especially takes time to answer your questions and treats each customer with the same courtesy and respect. That is a very important trait to have and she exhibits it well. The wait is anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to get a prescription filled, but while you wait you can browse their selections. They have a lot of homeopathic medicines and a big selection of Burt Bees products, and travel sized items of all kinds. I have seen products here that are less than rite aid, cvs, duane reade etc. It's always good to support your neighborhood business and neergaard is definitely the way to go. read more

The Medical Supplies staff was so rude and unhelpful. I tried to order a breast pump here through insurance and had a bad experience dealing with their staff. I had several insurance questions and was very rushed over the phone and treated as though they were stupid questions. I never got my questions answered and ended up taking my business elsewhere and am very happy with my decision. read more
