Was so looking forward to dinner tonight as I have had so many good meals here. Server was prompt to take our order but it went downhill from there. Cheese plate was rather boring consisting of some bread, pears and a variety of cheeses. Not very innovative Mushroom soup was very good , not as impressed with the lobster sliders. Butter poached lobster pad thai did not disappoint, crispy chicken was also quite tasty. Problems were: Took entirely too long between the starter and main course. Would like to give a HUGE s/o to the waitress who ruined my families entire dinner over a martini! Have never had an issue being that I am 21 years of age and was eating at such a fine dining restaurant with my two parents. I forgot my ID- but had a picture of it on my phone which we showed and got the ok by the manager. Our waitress then approached us and scolds us as if all three of us were underage. Im not sure who you think you are, we were nothing but respectful until you decided to reprimand us and continue to let us know that you're a bartender and we're wrong and you are right !!! Been coming to nectar for years- and if we ever come back I will not allow such an arrogant waitress to serve us. It's besides the fact that I didn't have a psychical form my of ID, I get it you can't serve someone without it, but it's how you spoke to not only me but my parents. You're rude AF. read more

The presentation was terrible, even for delivery. Order was late, cold, we asked for extra wasabi & soy sauce...did not receive it. The delivery driver, called and said, "Where are you?" Of course she couldn't tell me where she was. The delivery was a nightmare...we're not difficult to find at all. We will NEVER order there again. I was actually pretty unimpressed for all the hype and the high cost. Our waiter was nice but struggling to keep up with all of his tables. The tables are also super close together. It was good, but not better than anything you can get at other local sushi spots. The portions on the non sushi meals were also small, no plate garnishes or attempt at aesthetics, just kind of plopped on there like a cafeteria lunch tray. read more

Outstanding every time. I recently ordered ahead to bring home, and despite this being a very upscale destination, I still recieved exceptional customer service even with take out. I love their seasonal deserts and the nectar lo mein, smoked wild boar, chinese sausage, baby greens. Kids loved it and I got to feel like I had something special. I have had their sampling desserts with friends as well. The Crème brûlée Trio is to die for! Its seasonal, but if you call ahead, they may make a special order for you. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE ALLERGY ISSUES & bad customer service ! I called in advance to see if a Seafood Allergy would be an issue before making a reservation. They said no, and they are very careful. A group of 5 ladies dined here to celebrate a College Graduation. One individual when ordering let the waiter know she had a seafood allergy, he said he would notate it, they would make sure no cross contamination happened. She ended up taking a few Benadryl quickly when breathing and itching became and issue. The waiter came over and asked if there was an issue and then went to talk to the Chef. Came back and explained the Chef didn't know how it happened. A wee bit later the waiter brought over the Mgr / I believe owner and he asked if she ate anything before coming here, he didn't know how it would happen here. Offered no assistance or offer to remove her meal from the Bill. Let me add, this was not a cheap meal at $375.00 for 5 with 2 splitting a meal. The atmosphere is 4 star. Asian inspired and groups get the best seating, couples not so much. Very small 2 tops unless you are lucky enough to get a 4 top in a corner set for 2. Fig and pear cocktail was excellent. We had a seafood bento box to start. Ravioli was tough and empty. Slider was too heavy on the bacon, lobster didn't come through. Not much flavor in anything else except the micro greens the dressing was tasty as were the sauces that accompanied. Main dishes were a seafood hot pot and Wok Amish a Chicken and Shrimp. The wok dish was the better of the two. Chicken and shrimp were cooked well although I am not sure what Amish has to do with it. The hot pot was pretty sad. Everything but the one piece of scallop was over cooked and tough. Other hot pots that I have had I cooked the food myself. This came prepared and probably sat too long. Service was not great. Dishes left too long on the very small table. When the waiter finally returned we told him we were really starting to miss him. His response was he was busy. No sorry. Tentative, but very tight-lipped. -First course, for me: Lancaster mushroom soup...excellent. very hot, perfect consistency. For my fiancee: Veggie spring rolls...overdone, very bland, not enough seasoning in the filling, tasted like the fryer oil needed changing. We also split the Steamed pork dumplings, as well as the mushroom dumplings. The pork dish had a peach or a plum duck sauce...dumplings were on the harder side, didn't taste fresh, and the filling was bland once again. As for the dumplings of the mushroom variety...they were steamed properly, the broth was tasty, but the sliced boomers within the broth were extremely chewy and dry. -Entrees, for me: Pan seared striper with asparagus, mushroom and black truffle sauce....Decent. the fish was a tad on the overcooked side, but all in all a decent dish. Worth $27 though? No. Not even in Berwyn. My woman got the fried rice...what can I say, it was fried rice...pretty good. For the price, this place needs serious work on its quality to image ratio. Came here for a celebratory homecoming dinner after my main squeeze had been overseas for two months, and it was a great choice! When you pull in you will be required to valet your car. Notice all the Maseratis, Porsches, BMWs, and Mercedes' flanking the entrance to the restaurant. If you drive a crappy VW like me, it will be hidden way in the back so as not to scar the delicate eyeballs of Mainline 1%ers. The valet is gratis, though, so that's a plus! They were also very fast when retrieving my car at the end of the evening. Noise level was deafening upon entry for an 8pm reservation, but had simmered down a bit by the end of our meal. Dress code was not as formal as the vehicular lineup and valet theatrics would indicate. It was as though everyone was on the same mailing list that informs wealthy white people of what to wear and when, which must also be the medium by which all Mainline housewives know just the right level of upscale athleisure and gold accessories that is appropriate for an afternoon grocery run. Lots of very tan people in the 40s-early 60s age range. The few people I saw closer to our age were with groups that appeared to include their parents. OK, you're reading this for the food, not my snarky classist commentary. We decided to start by sharing a seafood bento and crispy octopus salad. The presentation of the octopus was lovely - it arrived in a covered dish and when the lid was removed with a flourish, bonito flakes danced a delicate, wavy jig on top of the crispy octopus. This dish was excellent and got F's vote for best dish of the night. The seafood bento was also very good - each component included thoughtful accompaniments that were much more than a typical afterthought garnish. Only the shrimp spring roll stood out as rather pedestrian, though not bad by any means, while everything else was spectacular. The tuna tartare in the bento was my favourite item of the night. We moved on to share two specialty sushi rolls, which are quite large. The seared tuna was very good, but didn't stand out as anything really special or unusual to justify the price tag. If it had incorporated a yuzu vinaigrette drizzle or something else to brighten it up I think I would have been more wowed. The King Kong roll was better in theory than in practice. The overall impression was a bit dry, and I'm personally not huge on shishito leaf so that's just my own taste. The end pieces were so huge there was no way to eat them whole, so I pulled out the meats to eat on their own. I found that the beef was incredibly good and it seemed sort of a crime to hide it in a roll like that. A bit gimmicky, and not terribly successful. Finally we each concluded with our own dessert, always the highlight of the meal for F. He got the chocolate torte and I went with the deconstructed s'more. His torte was very good, rich and beautifully presented but not unique or particularly interesting. My s'more suffered the same fate nearly every Top Chef contestant meets in the "deconstruct a dish" challenge. Each component was good on its own, but did not come together in a single bite to evoke the flavour of a s'more. It was also a little confused, with peanut butter and banana being brought to the party. The chocolate peanut butter brulee was interesting but lacked the smooth creaminess of a traditional creme brulee; the banana marshmallows didn't taste much like banana but the torched exteriors were very satisfying; the banana ice cream could have been creamier (it was icy, more like a sorbet) and the graham cracker cake's texture did not play well with the other components, while tasty on its own. To accompany this feast I got a thyme and cucumber gin cocktail that was truly excellent, well balanced with good flavour. In fact, it was so good I decided to get two even though I was planning to only have one, but was then disappointed when my second drink arrived tasting significantly different from the first - sweeter, and less balanced. It was still fine and I drank it, but it speaks to an inconsistent regime behind the bar. The bill was actually not that shocking, especially by Center City standards. Total before tax and tip was about $122, which I found fairly reasonable. Service was good and overall we really enjoyed our experience. We plan to come back in the future for drinks and a full table of appetizers - those were the real stars of the menu and could easily make a meal. We found what we had ordered to be the perfect amount of food, we left full but not stuffed. read more

My wife and I tried this "Main Line" Restaurant one more time to see if the other reviews had any merit but this so called main line gem fails short on many levels. As a CIA graduate and James Beard award winner I can be tough to please but come on Nectar $36 dollars for 10 small pieces of sashimi, $18 for a short pour glass of wine. Was it really necessary to cut one scallop into four pieces to add to the piece count Fish was fresh but fell short of an entree....We left hungry and un satisfied. They have a fish czar that pre cuts all of the fish in morning to insure max profits while forgetting about value. Service is okay at best and comes with a needless main line attitude Nectar is a must visit if you need to over pay for an over hyped under delivered dining experience just to tell your friends where you were....I guess its a main line thing.... It's definitely a cool looking spot for the burbs.... but it's still lacking the vibe/"scene" you'd expect. It's more like the older main line crowd checking out the cool "downtown feeling" restaurant. And you'll definitely pay the price for the privlege... I'm fine dropping big bucks for great food - but, across the board, the food was disappointing - small portions of average sushi, unenjoyable soup (skip the wild mushroom soup) & lukewarm pot stickers. Between all the dishes that 3 of us ordered, the Pad Thai was the only one we agreed was very good. I second the vote to keep on driving until you hit the big city. read more

But it was worth every penny and bite. The place is styling - a perfect mix of clean lines, strategically placed candles, and funky decor, without coming across like a crappy West Elm catalog. And the service was good. But mostly the sushi.....did I mention how happy this monkey was? Perhaps it was due to sushi hibernation in Boston, but this place will definitely see my fat ass sitting at the sushi bar on future business trips. One of my favorite restaurants. So good I've gone here for any special occasion or for no reason at all for years.

Nectar is just not the same as it used to be. The atmosphere is still really nice and the drinks were great. However, the food was a real let down. The vegetable spring rolls tasted like soggy fried dough. The edamame/calamari app was also over fried and mushy and way too salty. The calamari was terrible--not fresh, heavy batter, very fishy, probably frozen. Seaweed salad was average and the edamame dumplings were good but the sauce was not. The yellowtail sashimi was good, however definitely not worth $29 for the portion. The sushi rolls were fine but the shrimp tempura rolls were a real let down (again, over fried tasteless batter). The Chinese eggplant sharing dish was good but had no flavor, it just tasted like sesame oil. The service was slow but our waiter was very nice and easy going. Overall, we wanted to like this place. We used to love it, however, $250 for a mediocre dinner for four is just not worth it at all. read more

Is easily the most overrated place on the mainline. The sushi is good but well overpriced. The service I have found is often quite poor due to overbooking. The last time I was there I had to wait 30 minutes for a drink that the bartender forgot to deliver. The bartender chose to deliver the water down drink as opposed to making a fresh one. read more

I called Friday to complain and was told Monday my shipment should be here, to no avail it's Tuesday not one Order arrived! Nectar is one of my favorite places to eat on the Main Line. Yes, like others have said it's a bit pricey, but worth the money IMO. Granted, I'm not a sushi conniseur (sp?) but this place has the best sushi I've had besides Shibuya in Vegas. The look and feel is very upscale without being overbearing. A very nice setting for a meal. The staff is attentive and helpful. The food, well, I think it's incredible. My favorite was the Thai Tenderloin sandwich appetizer. It's weird saying the favorite part of my meal was the app, but it really was. These little things are crack cocaine in bite-sized sandwich form. I don't know what evil genius came up with this simple little treat, but I would love to meet them in their underground lair for dinner. read more

The decor is great, the food (Sushi and asian fusion) is great, and it's always packed on the weekends. (So be sure to make reservations.) Was treated to a lovely time at Nectar. I had heard good things about it & was delighted that it fulfilled its reputation. Enjoyed spicy tuna and king kong roll. My date ordered lamb shank which was amazing from the bite I shared I had jasmine duck & enjoyed it. But the lamb shank was incredible. For drinks we had cucumber martinis, bottle of red... And dessert were delicious beignet style donuts with dippings sauces. This is a great romantic setting and also has a city vibe as others have stated. The service staff was also super friendly and attitude free. I wish I knew our server's name because I would like to give her kudos. I forgot an important keepsake from my date and she rushed out to find me before we left the restaurant. Lovely of her. Great experience. read more

If you are a fan of sushi this is a place to check out. It has a center city vibe to it without being in the city and always has a crowd any night of the week (Definitely make reservations). The bento makes a good appetizer if there is two of you or a group dining together (get more than one bento then). Nectar seems to have a reputation as the suburban Buddakan because of both the decor and the menu. (I'm sure the prices contribute to this comparison as well.) I went there for a holiday lunch with coworkers and was pleasantly surprised with both the food and the atmosphere (because, you know, I'm a jaded city guy). We started with the sushi bento box and the dim sum bento box, split between three of us. Some of the selections in each box were quite tasty but I passed on a few others. I had some sort of Asian barbecued rib dish for my main course, and it was delicious. My coworker's pad Thai was yummy but not as good as my dish. Though stuffed, none of us were willing to leave without sampling some sweets, so we ordered the dessert bento box with tiny sugared doughnuts, mini apple pancakes, apple crumble and a few other things. It was worth the extra calories and subsequent discomfort on the ride home. Bottom line: if you're in the city, head to Buddakan, but if you're out in the 'burbs, Nectar is a solid choice. read more

I was also shocked when they told me the sushi bar did not have any cream cheese to add to a roll for one of my daughters. We ordered the Calamari and Edamame appetizer and it was good. The Tamarind sauce helped a lot. We decided to order two of their special rolls. The soft shell crab roll and their King Kong roll. The soft shell crab roll was super yummy. The King Kong roll sounds amazing. Unfortunately, I can't attest to the taste. It was supposed to have grilled filet mignon and sea salt topped tempura lobster in it. One of my daughters tried it and chewed it up and spit it out. I kind of rolled my eyes because she's been getting picky lately. Then my husband ate it and really didn't comment. My other daughter wound up spitting it out, too, saying the meat tasted gross. I looked at my husband who said that it was in fact, pretty gross! I had absolutely no interest in eating it after 3 of my family members called it gross!!! We mentioned it to our server who offered to bring a new one out. We refused but did take a different roll off the menu instead. It was good. Not amazing, just good. Much better than the other one!!! The Pad Thai was good, unfortunately probably the best thing that we ate there. We most likely will not return. read more

Similar to other reviews, this place is way over priced. I had two glasses of white wine that were barely filled! For two glasses of their house wine was about $30. My husband enjoyed the blood orange martini. We got the seafood bento box as a starter. It was very good except for $24, I should not wonder if even had any lobster in it. I would recommend getting a full order of the tuna tartare which was the only star on the plate. Then we got a bunch of signature rolls. I did not enjoy any of them. They were so dry that I had to chance them with water or drown them in soy sauce. I did like the day scallops sashimi but they were $5 each!! 1 slice for $5. I posted our sushi. 3 of the end pieces did not have any fish in it. There are 4 signature rolls priced about $16 each. Very underwhelming. Our lunch bill was $175 and we left so unhappy that we spent so much on lunch we didn't enjoy. I would not recommend this place to a friend. read more
