The dim lighting adds an intimate feeling so you don't really notice the size of the place one you're seated. I was seated in the rear of the first floor near the outdoor patio. Tried: edamame dumplings, sea salt crusted shrimp scallop and beef tenderloin, butter poached lobster pad Thai and the donuts for dessert. All 5 stars I had one of the seasonal cocktails - l believe it was tequila infused with Mexican chocolate, fig syrup and that chili? Very unique and I enjoyed it very much. Nectar is one of the best-known restaurants on The Main Line but my recent experience was ever so slightly on the disappointing side. In fact I could easily have rated this eatery only three stars but I have a gut feeling it is actually more a four-star place despite some shortcomings evident on my visit. Okay let's begin: First of all the bar and dining room are very attractive. That hits you as soon as you walk in. I was seated at a table that unfortunately had several pieces of food (including a large gob of rice) on the floor underneath the table. I asked if it could be cleaned up but it seemed easier to move me (indeed on my way out I noticed the food was still underneath that first table.) I ordered two dishes which had been recommended to me by people when they found out I would be on the Upper Main Line for a meeting. The chicken curry dumplings were decent but the red curry peanut sauce accompanying them was outstanding. The trouble with the dumplings themselves was that the were on the dry and kind of stiff side as if they had been made much earlier and had been reheated when I ordered them. The main course was def better. It was the Nectar Lo Mein with smoked wild boar. It was ample and tasty and truly came to life with the addition of a little Sriracha sauce. However during the meal I was never checked on and had to flag down a waiter for that hot sauce and again to fill up my empty water glass. (Note - the restaurant was not busy.) When it came time to pay, I was given the check but the waiter never came by to collect it and run the credit card. After about ten minutes I finally got another waiter to do it and he did it with a nice smile. Anyway if you read this review you can probably see why I was leaning towards assigning only three stars for Nectar. I'm hoping my experience was not typical for this stylish dining spot. read more

We heard good things about this restaurant through friends so decided to give it a try while we were in the area. The complimentary valet parking was nice. We had a reservation and were promptly seated at a table on the 2nd floor overlooking the whole restaurant. Our waitress was very friendly and went through and explained the whole menu to us. She gladly answered questions we had and told us some of her favorites. I ordered the seasonal punch drink which was pumpkin. It was ok but a little too much nutmeg. We started with the dim sum bento for 2. The edamame dumplings were the best ones, they melt in your mouth and were delicious. The others were good too, but the pork one was a little salty. We then had the mango roll which was shrimp tempura and sesame salmon in an eel sauce. This was a great bite and the flavors complimented each other well. Lastly we had the chicken pad Thai and the sea salt crusted shrimp, scallop, and beef tenderloin. I like how we were encouraged to share our entrees with each other, I steal my husband's food all the time anyway. The chicken pad Thai was delicious and I think my favorite out of all the food we ordered. The noodles were fresh and were so soft. I loved the peanut flavor in the dish paired with the chicken and tofu. Our main entree with the scallop, shrimp and beef was good but not amazing. It was a little too spicy for me. I guess I didn't realize that it had peppers in it. It looked like jalapeño peppers in it but I guess they were the chilies. It was pricey at around $30 and my husband and I only got 1 shrimp, scallop, and beef each. I will definitely try a different main entree if we come back. We got their signature cinnamon donuts for dessert with the 3 dipping sauces. The donuts were a little smaller than I was expecting, but we were pretty full anyway so I guess it was ok. The donuts were good but I had better. The raspberry, chocolate and caramel dipping sauces were very good though. I wish we had more donuts. We finished them all and still had a bunch of sauce, I was just dipping my finger in them. Overall a very good meal. We will try to come back with our friends next time. read more

I had such a great experience at NECTAR! I went for Mother's Day lunch and the specialty menu was amazing! The cocktails were also great. The interior design gives a classy ambience and the service was on point as well. I had the grilled salmon as my entree and it was the best salmon dish I've ever had! I was treated to lunch here recently. Which is, of course, the best kind of lunch. Now I'll explain one thing. I tend to judge high end restaurants at a far higher standard than simpler places. My theory is that if you're paying higher prices, a higher standard must apply. So even though I didn't pay, I'm still holding them to this standard. That being said, overall it was a tremendous meal. The pumpkin soup is outstanding, although some vegetarians at our table were disappointed to hear it was made with chicken stock. I loved the Seared Tuna maki roll, which may now be one of my favorite rolls in the area. I also had a simple Spicy Tuna roll. I judged it to be very good. But here's where my insanely high standards come in. It's a $9 roll which is about three dollars more than what you get at a lower end place. If the price is 50 percent higher, then I think it should automatically be better than anything you can get elsewhere. And honestly, I think I can get better Spicy Tuna roll elsewhere for $6. I'm not sure it's worth a full star deduction. This might be one of those places where I wish I could rate 4.5 stars. It really was that good otherwise. Maybe I'm just picky. read more

Price aside, this restaurant is absolutely amazing. My friend and I found this place in a list of top restaurants near Philadelphia, and after careful consideration decided to take the train here and walk to the place. I won't even say how difficult the traveling experience was, because after dining here we didn't regret it one bit! The marinated lamb chops, for example, must've been food for the kings. Their meat is right-off-the-bones tender, cooked just right with no burnt spot or hard edges. Simply put, it was orgasm in the mouth - as some would say. Not to mention, the chef specialty is created to be satisfying visually as well. The portions are not necessarily large, but they are decent. The dinner is definitely better but lunch is good too. The location seemed a bit odd - there's not much else surrounding this restaurant. But once you step inside, it's like a whole different world aside from the barren streets. I definitely recommend this place in all aspects. Due to the price though, I'm not a frequent visitor. But if I had the financial assets, I would dine there day and night. read more

Long story short: Delicious meal, delicate flavors, beautiful decor! Came here with my family as a "bon voyage" send-off dinner. First of all, the hostess and our waiter were friendly and very attentive, and made our experience a very pleasant one. Now on to the main attraction - THE FOOD. As most of the other reviews attest to, the edamame dumplings are a must-order for sure. The flavor is so creamy and unique, unlike anything I have tried before. We also finished off the calamari and edamame appetizer very quickly. We all thoroughly enjoyed our entrees as well. I ordered the chili wok-cooked tenderloin, which was divine. Just spicy enough to provide a kick, cooked to perfection, and very tender high-quality meat. My sister and my dad loved their soft-shell crab and hot pot respectively. My mom enjoyed the crispy chicken, and I liked it too but thought it was nothing special (kind of reminded me of the cheap Chinese food you get from the mall. Obviously better, but the flavors were very run of the mill). So skip the chicken, but everything else is on point. Finally, we ordered the chocolate torte with raspberry sauce for dessert, and loved it. It was the perfect size for 4 of us to share as a sweet way to end the meal. I will say that the meal was very expensive, especially with our drinks (btw, definitely order the sparkling red wine with hibiscus!). But it's much more worth it than other similarly-priced restaurants, in my opinion (looking at you, Buddakan). I also agree with other reviewers that the high ceilings make it very noisy, and we could hear every word from nearby tables. But the pros very much outweigh the cons! Nectar gets 5 stars. read more

This restaurant can be summed up as overpriced Americanized Chinese food. I came here with a party of 5 friends and we each ordered an appetizer and entree. We shared the donuts as a dessert. I understand that the restaurant needs to make money but none of anything we ordered was worth the amount we paid. This is not the typical complaint of 'it was too expensive' it's just that none of it was even that good. I live in Philadelphia and I can walk to Chinatown in 5 minutes, then get a the exact same menu items, besides the sushi, all for under $12, and they would all actually taste authentic. Furthermore, the entire restaurant was FREEZING. I was already wearing 2 layers, and I had to keep my puffy jacket and hat on the entire time I was there because I was so cold. 4 out of 5 of us also kept our coats on. I feel sorry for the waiters who have to endure such cold temperatures during their entire shifts. I would recommend this restaurant but only to those who have never had real Chinese food before, or do not understand what real Chinese food tastes like- they will love it! read more

When you walk in, the decor will blow you away. As Asian fusion as asian fusion can get. The menu is on the pricier side but for a good reason. And the service there is phenomenal. Ordered the King Kong roll which was a combo of shrimp tempura and beef tenderloin. Didn't blow me away given the price and felt like there needed more blending in the taste (felt like I was just eating a tempura roll with beef tenderloin randomly in it) The seafood bento had a lot of lobster in it. The lobster dumplings were my favorite. Spring rolls, tuna tartar, and lobster sliders were normal. My mom and I decided to split the red curry fried noodles. It came out a little chewier than we liked but god was the chicken tender. If you can't handle spicy at all, you probably shouldn't order this. My mom had some trouble continuing her meal given the spices in the curry. Desert was the best part!! We had the white macadamia ice cream sandwich and it was phenomenal!!! I stayed an extra day in the Valley Forge area. This restaurant made the extra cost well worth it. It's a wonderfu Asian-Fusion restaurant. Others have said it is noisy and crowded. Not so on a Sunday evening. Not knowing much of anything about Sake, both of b us decided to try the sake flight. We were surprised to see a cream colored sake-- Sho Chiko Bai ( a nigori style sake). It was both of our favorites from the 4 samplings. It's described as "a true classic style, creamy, lightly sweet, rich mouth feel." As loversofv dry qine, we were both surprised that this "sweet" unfiltered sake was our first choice. The meals were also excellent. After reading other reviews, we decided to try the Edame dumplings w chanterelle mushrooms, asperagus and watercress. The hype was totally accurate. Wish I had the recipe. We had two different entrees. A Sushi Deluxe platter and a Hot Pot. Both were very good. We passed on dessert, but several looked interesting. Try this place out; you'll love it. . read more

A little late with this review as we dined here 2 weeks ago! Pretty looking resturant but.. the food fell real short. Bento seafood apps tasted as if they were frozen and baked... The shrimp dish was very salty and strong flavors ( not in a good way) as if the sauce was pre made from a jar. I don't even recall what my husbands entree was -that's how uneventful it was. The drinks from the bar were strong and good! The music on a Thursday night could have been louder and with better tunes to compliment the upbeat , colorful " looking" resturant. My understanding is the sushi chefs are all Asian and the back kitchen main chef ( s) are not... For the price and reputation of being a high end restaurant, nectar did not even come close to meeting our expectations. The service was subpar at best. Our waiter was not personable in the slightest, and we felt rushed and forgotten throughout the entire night. We ordered several appetizers and rolls. The calamari and edamame appetizer was extremely salty and disappointing. The edamame dumplings were drenched in sauce and flavorless with the exception of being too salty as well. The pork buns were good, best part of the meal, which is not saying much. The vegetable fried rice was tasty. The sushi rolls were not well made. The fish tasted fresh but the actual construction of the rolls made them impossible to eat - extremely soft and not rolled properly. Each piece would fall apart. The drinks were tasty. We were not even offered a dessert menu, which we would have liked given it was a birthday celebration. We sat at the bar until our entire party arrived and the bartender was the only good service we received all night. For being a high end restaurant, nothing was presented well. The tables were messy, the lighting was awful, and the decor was not done well whatsoever. The tables upstairs were extremely close together and not set well at all. We were not asked if we were celebrating anything and we did not feel like we were getting the service that a place of this price point should offer. Went here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon after reading about this place ages ago. The bf and I are relocating and this place is nearby so we stopped in and it was so worth the hype. The restaurant was not too crowded and I was amazed at how large it really was. I imagine it gets quite packed in the evenings. The orange color scheme everywhere makes the energy fun and exciting and the decor is just really beautiful. The food of course is the best part. We shared the seafood bento for 2 and 2 sushi rolls. This was plenty for the two of us and everything was delicious and so fresh. I have dined at Buddhakan and Morimoto which both have similar vibes and while Morimoto is still my favorite this place comes in a very close second. The drink and dessert were also amazing. The drink was some concoction with cherry sake which I have never had before and it added such a sweet and simple taste to it. It kind of tasted like those old school cherry Popsicles that you eat out of the plastic but better of course. The dessert was the mini doughnuts with three dipping sauces....carmel is the BEST! TERRIBLE... don't know what happened but was our to go restaurant. I chose this place to celebrate my birthday and everything went wrong. We ordered appetizers.... Brussel sprouts, couple orders of egg rolls and they were all extremely oily and over fried. Then ordered main entrees telling our waitress that one person was allergic to shellfish and the other to seafood. When we got our main meals we realized that our pad Thai was made with fish sauce. Luckily our friend at the table realized it had fish sauce and the waitress admit to the fact that it was made with fish sauce. She brought out another dish without the fish sauce but never checked up to see if every was okay leaving me to eat the dish with a big spoon as no one replaced it with another fork when I specifically asked for it. Service has gone down significantly and would NEVER return again. The waitress never asked if I was as okay nor checked up on us. read more

I am honestly speechless. I bought a $100 gift card for my sister and her fiancé for Christmas on the 21st of December. They go tonight to celebrate my sisters birthday and when they go to checkout there is only $19 on the card. Supposedly someone named Garth used the gift card for takeout on the 29th of December. First visit: met friends- ambience was trendy, loud and service was amazing. Sushi was underwhelming but drinks and dessert were amazing. Second visit: brought my daughter, said sushi wasn't amazing but dessert is totally worth it.
