Where else are you going to find Gluten free, dairy free, and egg free baked breads and pastries? This was my first visit to this little neighborhood bakery. When we walked in, we saw a case filled with fresh made breads, beautiful cookies and tempting pastries. I like that all the ingredients are prominently marked on each item. We selected a orange cranberry scone ($5) and a cherry vanilla galette ($7). The pastries barely made it to the car. Both pastries were delicious. The whole grain galette was particularly filling and the cherry filling yummy and fresh. We were greeted with friendly and attentive service. The clerk told us that we can call-in an order and pick up later. Also, they will deliver locally on Tuesdays. They also ship anywhere in the US. Go early for the apple pastries, which sell out quickly and were gone when we arrived. They sell croutons and other dry goods as well. There is no seating inside the shop. I just received my first delivery order of your wonderful sourdough bread. Thank you for providing delivery service since I live in Nineveh, near Nashville. The freezer packs and insulation kept the bread cool and fresh even though the delivery day outdoor temperature is 84 degrees. The shipping box only sat on my porch for a few minutes since I was expecting the delivery. Of course I ate a few pieces of your yummy toasted bread before putting some away in the freezer. I've had their bread at a few Yelp events and was surprised by their good flavor and texture. If I wasn't told they were gluten free I honestly wouldn't know. Got some baguettes and loaves of bread. I tried a slice of bread untoasted, bad idea. The texture is off before warming/toasting. It's kinda crazy how the texture changes just by warming/toasting it. Instructions on storing are provided. With the exception of honey in a few of their bread options, everything else is vegan. Be sure to ask when/if in honey doubt. I tried a Sea Salted Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Thumbprint cookie. I couldn't believe how good they were. Vegan AND gluten-free?!! Too many times places' gluten-free options fail to measure up to my tastes. Not here. They have mastered the culinary art of creating delicious, soft, moist baked goods; and not that earthy/gritty typical gluten-free taste and consistency. Kudos to them! I'm currently obsessed with making butter candles annnd you need bread for those! Ha! I was told Native was the best place to go for gluten free bread, and it did not disappoint. The baguette, was a favorite at both events I attended. The cheeseball spread in my tastebuds opinion isn't comparable to a "cheese"ball spread, however, it's a good spread, and I would definitely get it again. On my second visit I impulsively purchased flavored croutons(can't recall the flavor, but I'm sure they probably change it up), they were amazing! Paired well with my tomato bisque. I became a sourdough bread snob after living in the San Francisco Bay Area for years. In the beachside town I lived in, folks who have lived there for generations eat sourdough as a staple of their diet and even their Thanksgiving feast, which forgoes turkey for fresh-from-the-ocean Dungeness crab, drawn butter, and a just-baked boule of San Francisco sourdough. Unfortunately, I had to cut out gluten recently and have been on a mission to find a halfway decent gluten-free sourdough ever since. I am a little embarrassed to say I had actual tears of joy in my eyes when I tried Native's sourdough bread served on a GF sandwich at a nearby brunch place in town (Rosies!) on a brief visit to Indy. I can confidently say it is the best GF sourdough bread I have found anywhere in the U.S. Rosies couldn't sell me a loaf to bring home and I was bummed I missed Native's bakery hours while I was in town, but I found out they ship! I adore Native Bread. I finally popped by their storefront and got to try their cookies and an apple galette. Both were delicious! I preferred the cookie, which surprised me, but it was really good! My mini BFF, though, was all about the apple filling in the galette. I also left with a refrigerated sourdough loaf. It was a bit dry (probably in part because it was an older loaf, hence the refrigerating), but excellent when I toasted it for sandwiches, as well as when I made some French toast. Hot tip: you can call ahead to reserve an item so they don't sell out by the time you get there. Other tip: throw in an Amazeball cheese spread with your order. We love this bread! We discovered this vegan gluten free, egg free, soy free, nut free etc etc bread a few years ago and have loved it since the first bite! It is amazing how tasty it is despite being both vegan and gluten free. We love their commitment to quality and the fact that they experiment with options for bread. Our go to is the Honey Oat, but we love their sourdough as well. You can find them at some stores, farmers markets and of course their brick and mortar store. This was my first visit to the Brock and mortar so I also got several cookies and a scone. My husband and I loved the cookies which weren't too sweet but just right in taste and texture. The scones were not to my taste as a bit dense and salty almost, but I think the cookies just tempt me more. Both though we're great purchases and I would get them again. If you are looking for bread options this is the best spot and we always want to have some in our frog or freezer. It goes well as sandwich bread, toasted and in various pairings as it holds up well even as a vegan French toast. Delicious, tasty, amazing and yummy! And the store was cute too! read more

As someone who is celiac and can't have dairy or eggs, this is the best bread and treats I've ever had. Even my husband who can have gluten and anything else loves everything here. Plus there aren't any inflammatory ingredients so really great to be able to eat some bread or a treat and still feel amazing! Everyone is also really kind every time I come in. My favorites right now are the rosemary garlic bread, cinnamon raisin bread and then galettes! Give it a try even if you're allergy free! I saw a review saying the bread molded fast, but my loaf's always last 2 weeks in the fridge. Also they said that it was "mealy" and "dense", I would recommend warming up a slice in the microwave for 15-25 seconds and it's the softest most delicious bread. Or simply toasting it! There's not many businesses that I can say have changed lives, but Native Bread is one of them. My mom has Celiac Disease and my wife is glutton sensitive, and this locally-owned bakery has provided them an opportunity to enjoy delicious bread. No words can say this enough. As a byproduct of seeing my mom a lot and living with my wife, I've been able to try their bread. It's so good! The sourdough is out of this world (my wife's fav), and as I am writing this I am looking at the garlic & rosemary bread that I'm super pumped to have a nibble of. My mom's constant is cinnamon raisin, but she loves them all. Also random, but so true, Native Bread's chocolate chip cookie is among the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. Full disclosure: I don't have any food allergies or self-restrictions when it comes to dining. (Calorie counting is my only limit.) So, while I appreciate that this new shop offers a variety of breads (including a sourdough baguette) to folks who are searching for a tasty source for their gluten free, or dairy free, or sugar free (the list goes on), I am rating them based upon how they compare to all other bakeries. So points for serving an under served corner of the market. The shop is located in a plaza on the southwest corner of Allisonville Road and 96th. There is plenty of parking and I like that there is a stoplight that allows you to have easy access back onto Allisonville. Inside, the shop has a small reception area where there is a seating area and a display/purchase counter. There were four types of bread (they had sold out of a fifth type) as well as the baguette. I kind of expected more items based upon some of the reviews, so that was a bit disappointing. The woman behind the counter said they are working on adding some more varieties including their take on a rye bread. The shop is only open on Thursdays and Saturdays, which has also caused me to cancel plans to stop by while in the area (it takes between 45-60 minutes to get here from my house.) The rest of the days, the staff is baking bread in the large area behind the counter. So, no immediate plans to expand the retail shop hours soon. And the bread itself? Well, because they are substituting so many ingredients, it isn't like bread you find at a lot of bakeries; especially like the breads you buy in a grocery. I'm not saying that is bad, but since they didn't have any free samples to try, we found both the seeded boule and the cinnamon raisin to be very dense and heavy. There is a lot of chew compared to other breads we purchase. The flavor was quite good which is why they are getting four stars from me. But for my wife who likes bread with a crispy outside and a soft and much lighter inside texture, she was disappointed. The loaves were selling for $9 each, so for us, having some free samples would have been helpful. The bakery is run by three women and we were greeted and provided information about the products and business. They even have a plaque that tells you how best to preserve your bread if you aren't consuming it in one day. So, overall, a good tasting bread which fills a niche in the bakery market is now available. It's the type of place that checks all the boxes, really though, Native Bread is like if you made a wish of all the things filled and complete. Native Bread is run, by Hayley, whom is just practically the sweetest most passionate person you've ever met. She's dedicated to creating a product that can serve the masses, gluten free (check), dairy free (check), nut free (check), etc...... tastes delicious (check check). She's been selling at the markets and lots of local shops for years and now she's finally got a place of her own. It's in a very interesting spot on the north side, but don't judge a book by it's cover. Once you enter the walls are clad with bright cheerful yellow tile, a smiling face to greet you, and the smell of fresh baked bread illuminates the air. It's a very cozy spot, so be prepared to pick up your bread and go. However the thing to know. She has several amazing breads. Sourdough, Honey Oat, Multi Seed, and Cinnamon raisin, available almost everywhere. The store front has a few more breads like her baguettes, garlic bread, and rye-not (similar to a rye). BRAVO! First of all, who doesn't want to support small businesses and especially ran by women. I have been wanting to venture over to this shop for some time. The days they're open to the public must be kept in mind, but priorities people. You have to accept and respect non-chain businesses have select hours. I met the owner in person at the YELP BIZARRE and I absolutely adored her energy. She was so kind, and helpful. I was able to sample the various bread selections. I am non-dairy and my son is gluten free. So finding non frozen, fresh baked breads are almost impossible. The bread is delicious! But knowing what you're putting into your body is priority. I love that I can rely on a bread that is healthy for my family. So I finally made it into the business and I was welcomed by a sense of acceptance. Native Bread has quickly become Indy's go-to for bread and a variety of some baked goods that are free from all common allergens, i.e. eggs, dairy, sugar, nuts, etc. They have a variety of options, savory and sweet. I have had the cinnamon raisin a few times as well as the sourdough and more. Each of them are dense and you're left wondering how the heck they're filled with such healthy ingredients and still taste so yummy. You might be immediately turned off by the price tag that comes with them, but you'll gain comfort in knowing that the bread lasts a very long time. I throw mine in the freezer and pull it out a day before I am going to consume it. You can also pre-cut them into slices as well for more daily uses. Another thing you'll notice is out dense the loaves are. Like, the heaviest breads I've ever had in my life lol. Again, you don't feel overly full when consuming them, partially because it's not full of junk that many store-bought breads have in them. You'll find them at farmers markets as well as at their storefront. If you want samples, they've got 'em so be sure to try them out before purchasing. If you're planning to purchase at a farmers market, get there sooner than later as they almost sell out at every market I've seen them at. read more

THIS PLACE . I started a doctor-supervised elimination diet in order to determine any food insensitivity causing inflammation. Weeks without gluten, soy, dairy, eggs, sugar, corn, alcohol and caffeine had me searching Yelp for options. I stumbled upon Native Bread on a Saturday morning and immediately decided it would be my first stop during weekend errands. The place smelled heavenly. I purchased a cinnamon raisin loaf, garlic rosemary loaf and a baguette. My total came to almost $30, however, it was worth every penny. I can't decide which loaf is my favorIte. While denser than "regular bread" it definitely gave me my fix. I took the garlic rosemary to a dinner party and it was gobbled up. I highly recommend this place if you have any food allergies or insensitivity. We will be back next weekend! read more

The bread is super dense, heavy, and has a mealy texture. It's edible, but I wouldn't describe it as "good bread". The loaf also molded quickly. read more

When you have food allergies and sensitivities you give up on certain basic things in life.... bread was one of those for me. Store bought GF & DF bread tasted like nothing or sometimes cardboard. I was at the Carmel Farmer's Market one day (over a year ago) and walked by Native Bread booth and I of course doubted that this bread was going to be any different. Well after a taste and a few words that only a sailor would use... I bought a loaf and haven't stopped since. The bread from Native Bread is one of the best gluten-free options I've found on the market. Locally-made and owned, they offer a decent variety of breads and buns for the gluten-free, dairy-free community. Plus, these homemade style artisan breads are delicious. I've tried every single kind except the Rye Not (mainly, because I was not a fan of rye before I was required to go gluten-free), but I have heard it is just as delicious as other gluten-rich rye breads. Bread in general is good, but Native Bread is unusually good. I'm stumped on WHAT they do to make it unlike any bread I've ever had. I first bought it at Trader's Point Creamery, it weighed a ton, was fairly expensive, but when I tried it I was blown away with the taste. Just delicious. I googled their name and found out that they supply bread to Patachou, and they are known for their yummy bread. Then Native Bread opened their own retail bakery -- yah! We bought 2 loaves of the white looking bread ... I don't even know what it's called exactly but anything we use it for (toast, sandwiches, grilled cheese, eggs, etc.) is awesome. Native bread is THE gluten free bread everything else is...well...NOT Native. I have been buying it for quite some time through the Indy Food Co-Op and I was exited to learn that they had opened a store front. My Non-gluten-eating family members eat it too. It's just that good. They have several flavor options including cinnamon and a new rye as well as some seasonal versions but the honey oat is still my favorite. It's Mmmmm! I have a hard time not eating sandwiches and toast for every meal whenever I buy it. Try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Indy GF-ers rejoice! I rarely eat GF breads and sweets from the store. Texture feels off and/or taste is overly artificial. Native Bread, however, reminds me of homemade goodness and has me wanting to make a sandwich with their bread or bake some cookies with their cookie dough. The apple galettes remind me of homemade apple pie. All of their products have been delicious. Nothing funky (not to mention gf baking is difficult), just wholesome baking.
