Nations is a classic spot in Fremont (and the bay area). Its my favorite place in town to get a big messy burger . Their pies are a go to for family gatherings. My favorite is the chocolate cream, or the strawberry when they have it seasonally. As for speed they are a bit slow, but its a classic diner setting where everything comes out fresh made to order. You will find a diverse crowd here.Every time I go, though, I see at least one older couple who I like to imagine have been Nation's regulars for years & years. Its cute. I initially came here to pick up a pumpkin pie. I ended up leaving with pumpkin pie and banana cream pie. I couldn't resist after seeing all the wonderful reviews on it. And the banana cream pie here turned out to be a WINNER. The crust is perfectly buttery. Not excessive either. I enjoyed the crust to pie filling ratio. The cream is amazing. Its rich but not too sweet and complements the bananas perfectly. I will definitely be back to pick up another pie for my next special event. Service was speedy. Cashier was nice and friendly-very conversational. Great store front and easy to find with the big signs on Mowry. Not sure how the burgers or breakfast is here, but COME FOR THE PIES. Came here this evening for a quick dessert and coffee with my family only to be greeted by a rude mannered employee by the name of Perlita (name on receipt). Our first encounter with this individual was about a month ago and experienced the same attitude. We thought maybe he just had a bad day or maybe something else; so we brushed it off at the time; but it seems to just be his mannerism. When he asked what we wanted to order, I asked for what I thought was strawberry cheesecake but apparently it wasn't because with a pretty blatant attitude; he said "we don't have strawberry... it's cherry". Fine, I went with the cherry and continued with the rest of our order... He kept saying, "what" after everything we said so it was no surprise to me that he didn't hear us when we said that we wanted three pies for dine in and one to go... he made them all to go. I was standing at the counter while he was cutting the pies up and stopped cutting and put both hands on the counter and looked at while asking me "do you need something" (again, with attitude) and told him, "nope, just waiting for our pies". After handing me the pies, I asked him... "excuse me, have you heard of yelp".... to no surprise to me, he said "what"... I said " have you heard of yelp"... he said yes. I said "good, so you know how it works right"... he said "yes".... Nations.... I should not have to leverage yelp as a crutch in order to receive decent customer service; it should be a natural behavior working in ANY customer facing business. I am very dissapointed with the service I was given. Granted, the pies were really good but at this point; I would much rather give my hard earned money to another business that treats their customers with respect and wants to earn a repeat customer that pays their wages... This establishment has been my favorite places for breakfast. I have been going here since I was a child. But this morning I was very disappointed from what I saw. I saw the cashier handle money and then touch the bread to toast it. Then she buttered it and put it over the hash browns. That is very unsanitary, especially with the Covid-19. I also saw the cook wearing a mask over her mouth and not her nose. That is the improper way to wear the mask. Droplets can fall into the food. I threw away the toast but was a little hesitant eating the food. I've been to this location many times before and never had a problem, until yesterday. We walked in and placed our order. It was late in the evening with only 4 other customers inside. We were hungry and it seemed like it was taking a bit long for our number to be called. 15 minutes went by and then 20. I thought maybe they were busy with phone orders but that was not the case. My boyfriend said he made eye contact with the person that took our order a few times and she never said a word. I came here after my doctors appointment; I ordered the 2 egg, toast, sausage, bacon and pancake. The food was good for a typical breakfast! The service was mediocre..! My only complaint was the banana cream pie! I ordered a whole pie and had a slice there. It was good but smothered in whipped cream, when I got home I had a terrible stomachache and had the runs.. next day I had a slice of the banana cream pie and had another stomachache.. I removed some of the whipped cream and notice the banana was old and almost rotten! Pretty much why they use excessive whip cream to cover their tracks! One thing about me is that I love pie. Growing up I would always come to the nations in my city to get pie at least once a week. Since coming to San Jose I could not find a place that sell creme pies like Nation's does. A weekend ago or so, I had the worst cold while visiting my boyfriend. I had such a bad headache, but was still in need of something hearty and filling. I've seen this restaurant multiple times, but that was the first time I had ever stepped in! My boyfriend told me they were well known for their pies, and being a mild pie lover I couldn't wait to take a bite of dessert. I ordered my veggie burger, and the patty tasted like a nice veggie meets bean collaboration! They provided mayonnaise on the burger, and with all the flavoring, I'd only recommend mayonnaise as other condiments would compete in flavor. My boyfriend got the original cheeseburger and we had both ordered French fries to top off this meal! For the burger, I have to say it's very packed with veggies and fresh lettuce, but they do go overboard on the tomatoes for our taste and we had to remove one or two. I love how they use sweet Hawaiian rolls as their bun, and their French fries are a good balanced oil meets crisp, but do need salt! Overall we both had a nice filling experience here, but before we left we were sure to order a raspberry cheesecake slice and go on our way home. The experience itself at Nations blew my mind but this cake has been on my mind nonstop since the visit and I would gladly drive to Fremont for just the cake! The cake was a perfect ratio of cream cheese to the ever sweet raspberry frost- the frosting was finely spread making the flavors complement instead of compete. Honestly the best cheesecake of my life and I don't think there's any reason not to try this burger house. If they have an option I liked, I'm sure they'll have an option for you! Pies. I will be a fan of any place that makes an above average pie for a reasonable price. And because you want to try all the pies, they will sell you half a pie. On our first visit, we tried 3 pies- 1/2Lemon merengue, strawberry tart and 1/2custard. I passed on the strawberry- not a fan of the red goop or strawberries- but was told it was a bit too sweet and gloppy but still good. Lemon merengue is slightly more tart than sweet (which is how it should be) and custard is creamy delicious. Crust is tender, crumbly homemade tasting not soggy. Burgers are 3 star A Ok. Big patty,( a bit on the dry side) , fresh iceberg and 3 nice tomato slices. Toppings vary, but too much sauce makes this huge burger slippery and messy to eat. I have ordered from Nations for a years love their food and the staff is always friendly. However I am very dissatisfied and disappointed with the level of customer service that was given today. I have never dealt with such horrible customer service like today's. I placed an order for pick up like I usually do through door dash. My fiancé went to pick the order up close to the time it should have been ready as he always does. We have never had an issue picking up our order like we did today. The Manager Ophelia was extremely rude and would not allow my fiancé to pick up the order as it was not under his name, granted he always picks up our orders and has never been questioned like he was today. If we knew that this was the process and it was a consistent procedure when picking up the order or we would've understood. However the interaction we got from the staff today was not like any other time. The manager was rude and loud and wouldn't allow my fiancé to speak without interrupting him yelling "I'm sorry I'm sorry!" as he spoke. He was trying to explain that we have never had an issue picking up our orders before and was confused as to why they were making it seem like he was trying to steal someone's order. He had the receipt and my name and she still responded with a rude tone and yelling as he tried to speak. When I tried to call nations my self to speak with the manager to try to understand the situation and give my feed back I could hear her in the back ground yelling to Emily who was on the phone with me to tell me she was busy and to call back later. Horrible customer service Ophelia and as a manager you should do better to take care of your clients and not treat them like shit. Maybe six months into their new relocated spot and I like it much better. It is WAY cleaner and not as decrepit. Less likely to see hobos or sketch mofos in the parking lot, but that still isn't a guarantee. But I do eat in house more at this spot. Food more or less the same though. Just because it is much newer or cleaner doesn't mean the food is gonna taste any better, unless it is a psychological thing for you. I've recently tried their Salmon Burger and it is not bad at all. The fish patty actually taste of salmon and it is not dry, which is usually the case. The nice touch is their wheat bun, which actually has integrity, versus their regular bun which falls apart into a greasy mess. I think I'm gonna request this wheat bun for their burgers as well. They still have so-so breakfast, but it is cheap. So if you wanna save a few bucks from say a regular coffee shop, this place may suffice. But knowing they have breakfast, just gets me to add bacon and a runny egg onto my burger, which literally makes it explode in flavor and grease. And it will be under 10 bucks. Plenty of parking at the Mowry Landing Shopping Center. Ordered the Original 1/3lb Giant Hamburger ($4.70). You place your order at the counter; when it's ready they call your number. Since it's cooked to order, about a fifteen minute wait. The burger's giant enough to make a meal out of. They use quality beef with large pieces of lettuce, fresh onions and several tomatoes with mayo sauce. The sauce gave the burger a distinctive taste letting you know it's a Nation's. Of course it fell apart while eating. If you want pickles, you have to ask for them. (but why spoil the burger?) read more

I ordered a hamburger with grilled onion (I thought it was small, but it's actually huge), an order of fries and a drink; which came out to less than $10.00. The burger was huge and juicy. This is the third location I've visited with a buddy and while it wasn't terrible, it wasn't great. Parking wasn't great but not horrible. Entering, it didn't seem orderly. We took a while to decide or what to order. $5.60 for a cheeseburger of its size isn't bad but charging $7.40 for a bacon cheeseburger seems excessive. I can get Hormel or Oscar Meyer ready-to-serve bacon to put on it and get more. $1.80 for the tiniest of drinks wasn't a deal, either, and $2.20 for a small order of fries didn't make much sense. However, taste is a big concern and the last two times at other Nations locations have been very good. Strangely, the 3/4 pound burger was easy to finish this time. I left half of it the last two times. My buddy's burger was well done, but mine was hella pink in the middle. They didn't ask how we wanted them cooked and I didn't specify more than onion and pickles. I suspect that the burger patty was 1/4 or 1/3 pound instead of 3/4 pound. I have trouble finishing a Carl's Jr. 1/3 pound sandwich. The fries were greasy--in fact, everything was greasy. The fries were soggy and many seemed to be saturated with oil, as though they had been left over the oil after they were cooked. The burger had good flavor. The person who took our order was cleaning tables and he came to replenish the napkins. It was appreciated, since I'd pulled out three napkins and that side was empty. Talk about piss poor service. So the family and I wanted to support a local business during COVID season and wanted to patronize the Fremont nations. We hadn't been in a while so we wanted something good and to go. Should've went with cooking at home today because this just wasn't it. The burgers came out decent so I can't really complain there but my sister and I got hot dogs and were pretty precise about how we relayed our orders. Ofelia, the one who took our order, even repeated back verbatim what I wanted on the hot dogs. So when we get there and she assures us, kinda with a hint of attitude, that everything was correct and that should have been our red flag. The hot dogs did not have the tomato, relish, onions, mustard, ketchup and jalapeños that we asked for but instead a limp and pathetic split hot dog weenie with a sad dollop of ketchup, barely-there relish and maybe 3 jalapeños. But wait, here's the kicker... Ofelia and her phone-answering henchman had the nerve and audacity to get upset that we were letting her know where she screwed up. No curse words or attitude just some attempt to get some type of decent customer service.
