The food is absolutely amazing. We went a few times now, and everyone is always nice! The only reason I dropped a star is because we waited pretty long for the food two of those times.... so don't go hungry like I do. ;) read more

This place is excellent. Deep flavors, and a menu with Tex Mex options. They don't try to be too broad in their offerings which is smart. I had the Tikka Masala with chicken and it was top notch. read more

Do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was very bad. the service was bad as well. We ordered vegetarian daal ane it was smelling like chicken daal. isit again. Place a pick up order and was told 45 min to an hour. No problem. Some show up 50 min later and they do not have any idea what my order is and had clearly not started working on it. The guy gave no indication as to when the order would be ready, beyond the text that we received. Wouldn't be a big problem, just tell me how long. After 15 min standing in the restaurant I asked again about my order to a response of, "we're working on it." No timeframe no apology, nothing. 10 min later I gave a shrug as an inquiry and the guy asks me if I want to come back and see the kitchen. Told me he wasn't cooking. All in all the order was over 20 min late for pick up. Over an hour and a half total time. And once we get the order it was incorrect and they did not include our appetizer. Carelessly packaged. The employee should be ashamed of themself for their behavior, and ownership should be embarrassed they employ someone like that. Extremely rude and does not belong in the service industry. read more

We come here for date night and get the extra spicy vindaloo. It really tears our stomachs up but its so good we continue to have date night here. They also serve alcohol and the location is aesthetic af. read more

Came ravenous after a long day of bouldering and got a bloody mary and the millionaire's curry with lamb. The bloody mary was pretty good, surprisingly for a $3 drink and the curry was absolutely delicious. I got it "hot" and it was actually very spicy to my delight. Enough to make your eyes water but not so hot you absolutely couldn't taste anything. Extremely flavorful dish with rich spicy tomato based curry with lots of chile, ginger, etc...and nicely tender chunks of lamb. Although the portion size is on the smaller side, it was probably one of my favorite indian dishes I've eaten out. Service was exceptionally slow supposedly because of computers being down, but the server was friendly and I really enjoyed the food. I'd go back for this dish for sure. read more

The service was amazing! The staff was friendly and sweet. The food another side was a little different, although it was delicious I went in expecting Indian food, but I found myself between a cross of tex-mex Indian food. A hip and quaint restaurant on the East Side with interesting and friendly staff and great fusion cuisine. I've yet to eat anything there that didn't taste amazing. Location: Good Service: Good Good: Horrible. I ordered Veg Biryani, Saag Paneer and Garlic Naan. Naan was so hard that I had to use jack hammer to break it into small pieces. Wonderful Indian dishes and great atmosphere. Our guests tries the Indian/Tex-Mex fusion and absolutely loved it. We ordered family style - so three of us shared two entrees and it was plenty. The garlic naan was delicious. We also ordered the jalepeno naan, it was too spicy for me but others at the table loved it. read more

The food is really tremendous here. We got takeout but they are serving and have a cute outside area. The paneer and mozzarella quesadilla was really good, and so was the jalapeño naan, but the tandoori chicken tacos and the kheema masala were flat out awesome. We are DEFINITELY going back again! read more

I loved the Indian and Tex-mex fusion. The food was awesome, great flavors and the option to adjust the heat level was greatly appreciated. The plating was unique and fun. I was very disappointed eating at this restaurant. I am Indian and therefore a bit of a snob when it comes to eating Indian food. I am also from the UK where were have excellent Indian restaurants. On the way home from a really long road trip I was craving Indian food and despite my reservations I decided to give this place a try. While the staff were nice the food was really not good. I ordered a plate of samosa's which came undercooked at the joins and had raw dough that was acting as the glue to the edges still raw. What was supposed to be tamarind chutney looked to be apple sauce which some spice added to it and tasted nothing like tamarind chutney. The chana masala was a really tangy tomato based sauce that you would never call a chana masala, it did not taste anything like a chana masala. The funny thing is I ordered the chana masala as I felt it would be the safest option on the menu. It's very hard to get it so wrong. The garlic naan was probably the only saving grace for this place but even that had dried garlic flakes and did not seem like it was made with fresh garlic. I would not each here again. I really really wanted to love it but I just could not. read more

I was in Austin for last whole week. Thanks yelp to find this cool place. At the front they have a beatiful murral of sadhu smoking. The inside decor is blended with exterior. This might be my new go- to on the east side!! I ordered the ginger chicken soup and it was soooooo good!! The chicken was tender and the flavors were incredible. I also had the chicken vindaloo (very hot) and the spice was real, but I loved every bite! I placed my order for pick up and it was ready within 10 minutes, and everyone I spoke to either on the phone or in person was super friendly!! I can't wait to come back for more!! read more

This review is only for service as we did not get a chance to taste their food. They do not have bigger tables to seat 6 people and they seemed to be reluctant to join any tables for some reason even though there were many empty tables. We were not told upfront that it would be taking long for us to get seated nor were we updated while we were waiting. They didn't even seem to care when we finally got frustrated and told them we were leaving after waiting for a long time. PS I hope i don't get threatened by the owner of legal action like one of the other reviewers. read more

Fantastic food, service and ambience. First time having Indian food and this place set the bar pretty high.

Came in to eat nasha on a slow day last week around 4 pm. We got the coconut chicken curry and the chicken tikka masala. To start we ordered the veggie samosas and the tikka queso. We also ordered the jalapeno naan and the mango lassi. The veggie samosas were great and i loved the sweet sauce that came with them. The jalapeno naan tasted like tasty flat bread pizza with jalapeno slices. The tikka queso was really good too but the cheese in it was way to stringy which made it hard to eat. The mango lassi was delicious and was a good balance of sweet and sour. What i didn't like about the meal was my curry. I was surprised to see it didn't have any coconut milk in it and it didnt taste of coconut. It had coconut flakes in it but it just didn't taste right. I must have misread the item which was my bad. I didn't eat much of it because it didn't taste good either. The tikka masala was a miss too, it wasnt sweet or tomatooey enough for lack of a better word. My boyfriend said it was the first time the chicken tasted better than the actual sauce lol. So my conclusion is the appetizers and drinks taste way better than the actuall curry entrees. read more

Nasha - Tikka queso! - Indian Near Me - Austin, Texas

I am going to divide this review in 2 parts - Service and Food. Service - I called them to place an order to-go. Gave them the order and was told to come in 20 mins to pick it up. Perfect, so far at least. I reach there in 22 mins. I go in and give the girl working there my name, and she's like let me check. She and the owner (the only indian person there, assuming he was the owner) check the computers, go inside the kitchen, check the computer again but couldn't find my order. The person who took my order was on the phone with another customer. They don't tell me or talk to me or make eye contact with me. Finally the guy gets off the phone, and asks me my name. I tell him my name, he flips through his little note book and finds my order and goes to the computer. Following that he goes into the kitchen and I hear the work to-go, i am guessing he is telling the kitchen to expedite my order. That's it, no one now makes eye contact with me, or asks me anything. Everyone just goes about their business. I finally get fed up and ask the girl what happened to my order and if he forgot to put it in. She says, I don't know, let me find out. She tries to talk to the guy who is serving tables, and then just goes in the kitchen and comes back and says, it will be ready in 5 minutes. Not the answer i was looking for. I step outside for a minute, come back in, and the girl apologizes to me. I was like, so what happened. She says the order got lost in the computer system somehow. I don't know how that happens. Don't blame it on the computer system, lie to me. You are insulting my intelligence. Just say you forgot to put the order in, you are sorry and move on. Don't lie to me and take me for an idiot. She asks me if I would like a glass of water, and hands me the bill. I pay, get my food, and leave. Food - The food was very average. The paneer tikka masala, which was too spicy for a medium, did not have any salt in it. The nan did not have any salt in it either. The coconut curry which was originally ordered as medium was delivered as mild. I am guessing this is what happens when you try to rush an order. You make mistakes and the food ends up suffering. I really would've liked it if they didn't insult my intelligence, just accepted that a mistake was made and the order was never put in because there was just one person working the phone and he got distracted. But when you lie to me, its worse than having bad food. You are insulting my intelligence. It reminds me of the scene from the godfather when Carlo Rizzi lies to Michael Corleone about being involved in Sunny Corleone's death. Don't insult my intelligence Nasha. Its pathetic. read more

I grew up with a fridge packed full of chicken masala curry, navraten curry, goat curry, channa masala, naan, puri, roti....and on and on and on. I'll be the first to tell you that Austin is lacking great Indian food representation in it's saturated restaurant market. So, when I drove along the eastside and saw a sign outside a building that said "Nasha"...I KNEW I had to check it out. Well, first I almost crashed my car rubbernecking to make sure my eyes had seen correctly.... So, I get to the restaurant with a friend who was returning to Austin from a 6 month trip away. I was SO excited to have some Indian food with my very much missed friend. It had been a while since I'd had some good Indian grub...so, I. Was. Ready. I didn't know what I'd missed more, good Indian food...or my friend. So, we order samosas, which came with tamarind and mint chutney. Staples on any Indian restaurant's tables. Y'all...let me be the first to tell you how AMAZING tamarind chutney can be. Well...tamarind anything. In fact, no joke--just today, one of my best friends sent me a message asking me if I'd like to get together to make tamarind jam and candies get us through the winter. I LOVE THE STUFF. And occasionally when entering an Indian restaurant, I'll be met with mediocre tamarind chutney. But I still use it. In front of me at Nasha, was a ramekin with tamarind chutney and one with mint chutney--you know, as expected. But what I ate, was so unseasoned, so flavorless, so utterly boring, that I immediately began pouring salt into it. I couldn't believe it. It was truly the worst chutney I'd ever had. And to top it off...the samosa was pretty flavorless as well. That's like an authentic Mexican restaurant having subpar salsa and cardboard chips. Very dissapointing. Oh, and no amount of my doctoring it, brought it back from the dead. I'm also confused by the menu. Quesadillas? Tacos? Omelettes for brunch? So...this isn't an Indian restaurant...this is a Indian Fusion joint? Perhaps some of the off-ness of the food is making sense. So, I order a veggie vindaloo at a level 6 spice. (They only go up to 4....I have atomic level thresholds for spiciness), and my friend orders a goat in the Millionaires curry. My friend said, "it was real hunks of goat, greasy goat goodness with the occasional fleck of bone." However, he has this expectation of richness from Indian food that he just didn't find that night. He said it was good. Just not as full and rich as he was used to. He ordered a chai as well. He appreciated that they left it unsweetened so that you could sweeten to your taste, but noted that it was bland with no spice to speak of that he could taste. My curry was somewhat spicy. But once again, not that rich at all. Listen---it's not hard to have flavor with Indian food. I mean, we've got cumin, coriander, garam, asofetida, turmeric on our side! It's not hard for there to be flavor. Here's the saddest part---my friend and I were STARVING. The kind of starving where you start eyeing which human next to you would be the one you'd start in on if food didn't find it's way to you fast. So, I ate my meal. And he's a bottomless vessel for food intake, and he ate his. But it was possibly the saddest I've ever been, consuming an Indian meal. The theme of the night---blandness. Flavorless chutney, chai, naan, and boring curries. I even got a jalapeño naan...and it didn't do a damn thing for me. The difference between "meh" Indian food and "HELL YES" Indian food is the hearty richness and warmth and well bodied flavor that the cooks can infuse into it. And sadly, that was missing here. Thank goodness my catch up with my friend was amazing, because at least I had a fantastic friend to liven this experience up. Oh, and our server was SO incredibly sweet and nice! So, will I be back?---no. read more

Indian food in east Austin!!!!! Dead from the excitement right now. I was driving down the road when my husband pointed out the colorful sign saying to "get high on Indian food;" brakes were slammed upon, birds were flipped, but soon I was pulling into a cozy parking spot and taking my first steps toward what will likely be my most frequented restaurant in town. Shahi Korma with chicken- partner dug this in a major way. I really really liked it, but it was just a hair too coconuty. Nonetheless super delishes, and the chicken was so soft and perfect it would not actually stay on my fork. Thanks, chicken, for being so fork-abandoning. Chana Saag- vegan, flavorful, and so so yummy. Perfectly cooked chickpeas. Super filling. Homerun. Jalapeño and Garlic Naan- Garlic was super yummy. Jalapeño was really good, but the jalapeño flavor didn't really get spread about all the bread, mainly just in the places where the peppers were cooked. Food came out relatively quickly, and it was so much food that we were really trying to not eat all of it, but it was so good that we could not quit nash'ing (lol). That said, we would have been totally satisfied and not immobile and miserable had we eaten 1/2 of our food, which is always kick ass in my book. left.ov.ers! left.ov.ers! Hooray for being open super late, and also, hooray for all the cool looking specialties on the menu (quesadillas, tacos, etc), which I fully intend to try next time. Finally a massive "hell yeah" for the fact that there is now an Indian restaurant within walking distance of my home. Staff was super friendly, and it sounds silly, but the plates and water cups were really cool. Additionally, they had an extremely bitching cocktail menu, which I cannot wait to test out on my next trip. Curried margaritas?! C'mon. As we left my husband said something about "...and that was the winter where Carrie gained 100lbs," and he is right and it will be super fun. If everyone doesn't go here and eat this food and they close, I'm never talking to anyone again. Also, is this a dream? if so don't wake me up. read more

Nasha is close to where I work so I've eaten here many times. On an average day, the food is very good but on an above average day it's fantastic. I strongly recommend their Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Nan, Veg Puff Samosas and Chicken Tandoori Tacos. Austin, Texas is a taco crazy town, so a lot of restaurants outside the Mexican and Tex-Mex traditions offer a taco version of their cuisine. They have made some of the best tacos I've ever had. The real test of a restaurant requires multiple meals to experience their best and worst. They have made some of the best meals I've ever had. read more

It's one of those, "Why is there not an option for 3.5 stars?" I think the food was great, and the menu was inventive, but the space itself and overall service were a little lacking (I hope they come up with some softer lighting). No big deal, like I mentioned before, the food is great. I'm generally pescatarian, so the abundance of seafood options was a plus. I asked for my roasted coconut curry dish to be desi-hot, and they delivered. My British dining companion liked what he got as well. All in all, a fair experience, and I'm excited we finally have Indian food options on the east side. read more

Super cute space! Service was so nice and attentive. My vindaloo however, was just OK. I tasted an overwhelming flavor of star anise in it which was kinda weird. The naan was good. Fantastic food fusion and fun atmosphere. A must for any lover of Indian food visiting Austin.

A lot of places in Austin to have good Indian food, their drawbacks? 1. Service 2. Ambience 3. Lack of alcoholic beverages Being an Indian, I used to go to all these other places just out of cravings for food from the motherland. But then I found Nasha and glad oh glad I found it! The place is first of all hip! 1. Steel plates and glasses If you visit India ever, you'll notice that all home cooked food within a family is only served in steel plates. I was amazed Nasha got such details right. 2. Food I'm biased, because they serve konkani/malvani food from west coast of India which is unlike paneer and chicken tikka masala which is popularly known as Indian food in US. Every state in India has authentic food of its own and Nasha seems to have come up with a overall great menu. 3. Taste: Samosas! you gotta try them. I have never had such delicious samosas ever before. Curries, soups, naans, tacos, are all great. 4. Service Friendly staff with great hospitality. 5. Music Great collection of bollywood music going on in background to add to the effect. 6. Beverages Last but not the least, check out their cocktails. They are so unique. I think one of them is called Tulsi margarita. Ocimum tenuiflorum, also known as Ocimum sanctum, holy basil, or tulasi (other spelling thulasi), is an aromatic plant in the family Lamiaceae which is native to the Indian subcontinent and widespread as a cultivated plant throughout the Southeast Asian tropics. Tulsi margarita? boy oh boy, we are globalized. I used to love Nasha when I first moved here a little over a year ago and it's sad to see the quality decrease so much in such a short time. After having a craving for Indian food, I ordered takeout. The saag paneer, chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo - all things I've ordered before. When I took the containers out of the bag I was surprised at how small they were, before they were tall clear containers and now they're short ones. I was even more disappointed when they were mostly runny sauce with only a few pieces of the actual dish. Even the saag paneer which I remember always being plentiful had maybe 10 small squares. 3 entrees were barely enough to feed 2 of us. I had planned on having leftovers. Very disappointed and will not be giving them another chance. read more

One star experience at Nasha tonight. Where do I begin? The food was terrible. I ordered three appetizers and two entrees; chicken curry and aloo gobi with a couple of naans, and a salted lassi etc. The samosas were terrible, both lamb and vegetarian. The food was totally bland, hardly any salt and that's after we asked for medium spice. The waitress asked us if the food was to our liking and I told her it wasn't, and within a few minutes, the proprietor came over and offered to cook us something else or to add more spice. We appreciated his kindness, however, we did not want to wait for a second round and be further disappointed. The ambiance was ok. The lights kept flickering between bright and dim, and I asked if they have music, and was told the computer was down at that time, once their computer was up, the music came on. The dishes that they serve the food on is more for show than practical, another turn off. The service was good. The worst thing is, a few minutes after leaving the restaurant, I felt sick to my stomach and this is rare for me. I know that I will not be patronizing Nasha again. Back to Bombay Bistro, where the food is consistently good. read more

This is a cool Tex-mex Indian fusion dive. Everything we had was yummy and the vibe was relaxing and unpretentious. Try the Tulsi Margarita with muddled Thai basil. This is, straight up, some of the grossest food I've had in a while. If you know what Indian food tastes like and that's what you want, do not eat here. I don't know what they are trying to do, but it ain't workin'. I was really looking forward to trying this place - I grew up eating Indian food and it's one of my favorite cuisines, so I like to mix it up around town. Big mistake. I had to re work everything in my kitchen to make it seem more like what it was supposed to be. I couldn't even keep the raita in my mouth - it tasted like a kitchen sink. I'm also convinced they buy their mango lassi and naan from Trader Joe's. It's not a win for Nasha today... This just in. It's now the next day and I'm home from work to be near a restroom. I eat this type of food often, so this should not be happening. I have a ton of leftovers and will be throwing them out. What a waste. I'm so upset. Whyyyyyy?! read more

We stopped in today for happy hour, which the website and signs in front of the restaurant said was 3-6. We asked the waitress what the happy hour specials were and she told us it was now 4-7 so we were about 40 minutes too early. When we pointed out the website and signage still said 3-6 and that's why we had come, she shrugged and said "Yeah, we changed it." We weren't impressed by the lack of apology and no concession to offer us HH pricing, and we had a movie to catch, so we went elsewhere. 2 stars because the waitress was pretty nice, but we wasted our time. read more

The wife and I have been wanting to check this place out for a few months now. We finally stopped in the other night and now regret waiting so long. The tikka queso (with lamb added, of course) was truly great! Big flavors, and perfect portion size. I could also eat my weight in their garlic naan. I was a fan of their biryani, one of my go-to dishes to cook at home. I opted for the chicken biryani with the highest level of spice and it was the perfect spice level, well balanced and not palate-wrecking. My wife had the basil margarita and was a huge fan as well. The 512 IPA paired perfectly with the heavy spices in our dishes. We will be back. read more
