This place has amazing vegan food. The atmosphere is memorable. The social environment is one in which you may be yourself without judgment. The tables are spaced a good distance. There were a few Indian dishes that I grew up eating which I could never find in restaurants. And that was OK. Because when you can eat well at home, why go out. Well.... I don't live with my Mom anymore and it cost a pretty penny to fly there, so I often find myself wishing I could have some of that down-home Indian goodness. I've even tried to learn to cook and realized that this was an utter waste of resources. So, imagine how happy I was when I found a great Khakina in Austin! At a Mexican restaurant, no less.... wait.... Nasha does it right by mixing tasty Indian food with Mexican preparations. The spirit of this is more down-home than any other Indian place I have seen in town. So let's get down to business. What I had that took me back home was an egg taco. More specifically, it was Khakina! That egg, scrambled with onions, tomatoes, peppers, spices and oil that you lucky indian bastards eat for brunch with paratha. Nasha forgoes the paratha and will serve it in a whole wheat tortilla (roti) if you like. But the flavor still hits hard. There are other kinds of tacos and Mexican-Indian fusion dishes on the menu. They make a run at Tikka-con-queso, Saag Enchiladas and Chili Relleno. One thing which concerns me slightly is that their on-line menu no longer seems to mention those tasty egg tacos. Hopefully that was just an omission or maybe it is only served at breakfast time. Just to be clear, Nasha also has some more traditional Indian fare, too. We haven't had it. So I'm really not saying that this will render your childhood memories from Hyderabad. But some things here, in fusion form, might take you to an alternate reality that just may resemble an ancient happiness. They have some Indian themed cocktails, too, which miss the mark a bit. Come to think of it, there are not many places that can do a decent Indian cocktail. So, the fusion dishes it shall be! Overall, this is a cool joint that has a earthy, crunchy, raw vegan vibe to it. Such a positive experience. We went here for an early dinner with our two kids and dog. The outdoor area was great and the food was delicious. Have been coming to Nasha for the past 6 months maybe a dozen times with my coworkers and friends. I'll list my favorites that everyone must try: 1. Millionaire curry 2. Vindaloo 3. Tikka masala ( a bit different then the typical but a must try). I would suggest to always go lower on the spice level if your comfort zone is between two spice levels and if it's not spicy enough it's always easier to add more spice rather then being stuck with something too spicy too eat. The margaritas are awesome and are made with fresh lime juice. read more

Such cute vibes coming from this Indian/Tex Mex place on east side. Their happy hour is sweet, 4-7pm 1/2 off appetizers and $2 off drinks. Plenty of food, good to share, and not too pricy! The veg puff samosa was my favorite, may be some of my favorite samosas I've ever had. For the other dishes, they aren't my favorite out of Indian places I've been to in Austin. Worst experience ever. Dropped in for lunch. We were not super hungry so we (both vegetarians) ordered VEGETARIAN samosas. Very clearly. The waitress even asked us whether we wanted lamb or vegetarian and we clearly said vegetarian. The order came in. We both started eating. Neither of us noticed that it was lamb (we didn't have a reason to think the waitress would screw up such a simple order) until half way through. We called the waitress and she confirmed that they were lamb samosas. I just about threw up right there. Needless to say, we left right away and did not have to pay. This may seem like a simple issue to many who are not vegetarian by choice or otherwise. But there are two issues. First is, this whole fiasco completely ruined our lunch experience. Second, I was forced to eat something I choose not to eat. Both of these issues should be of high priority for every restaurant. Without a question. Not ever going back to this place again. The fact that we were not charged for the wrong order hardly softens the blow. read more

Nasha was a delightful capstone to my brief stay in Austin. This Indo-Tex fusion spot exceeded expectations, which I had trouble setting in the first place because I've never experienced Indo-Tex. Upon turning the corner we were struck by a colorful and festive building that looked both inviting and warm. As it was a nice evening, we didn't spend any time inside and were promptly seated outside at a table of our choosing. The service was pleasant and our server knew the menu quite well, helped us navigate the highlights, and fielded our questions fully. We ended up ordering some simosas for a starter; these were spiced well and were subtly sweet! Then we jumped into the deep end of the pool and ordered their Millions Curry - an explosively hot and flavorful haberno/tomato sauce curry over chicken. This came with a much welcomed side of rice and we also ordered a side of garlic naan to accompany. The heat was intense and while the waiter warned us that the sauce was hot, we didn't believe him (every place says they're hot, this place walks the walk). But don't be dissuaded the heat and flavor lingered, but didn't overstay in our mouths! Yum! read more

Millionaire curry? I've had better tasting microwaveable curry from Costco and much better tasting curry from Tarka. The portions were very small and unremarkable for the super steep prices. The best part of the meal I had was the jalapeño naan. The service was slow, and it wasn't busy at all. Two tables and no one at the bar but a 15 minute wait for a draft beer? Unacceptable. I've eaten at Nasha many times but hadn't been in a while. My mom requested it while visiting as it is one of her favorite spots in Austin. We went tonight and it was exceptional as usual. We have small children and they never made us feel like a nuisance. In fact, my child spilled water every where and they were so kind and patient and helped us clean it up. I felt horrible for them because there was a customer nearby that complained about alleged uncooked chicken but he had eaten the entire meal. Sketchy. The staff asked why they waited until the end of the meal- seems a reasonable question- but those people had no answer and threatened a bad review (seems they followed through). Everything was decent! Millionaire curry - almost tasted like tomato sauce with spices. Almost had a salsa type texture to it. Wasn't too big of a fan but it was flavorful. Tikka masala - extremely buttery. A little different than other Indian restaurants but again was flavorful in it's own way. Chicken quesadilla appetizer - the flavor and spices were great! I've been coming here for about a year. Fabulous food but I wish they'd be a little more rigorous with their hiring process. They seem to have a high turnover rate and the servers always seem angry, unfriendly and defensive. It's disappointing because the food is so good. Our friends introduced us to this place and OMG!! We've been here about a million times since then. Hubby and I always get the verde masala! It's so good! A great mix of Mexican and Indian flavors. If you like anything with verde sauce, you will love this.The garlic naan is the best too! We met the owner and his wife the last time we came, and they are sweethearts. You can tell they they have a passion for this restaurant. My one suggestion would be that they serve their water with ice... the dishes can get pretty hot and it's nice to have some cold water to drink after that. But that doesn't stop me from eating this a 5 star, Love this place too much! It's a must try! read more

Nasha is another Austin place that is good but not great. Their food is seasoned fairly well, though a little more bland than your typical Indian place. One thing that stands out over typical Indian restaurants around town is that there is less creaminess and greasiness in the food. The level of creaminess is a good a balance and the limited greasiness really lets the spices (albeit a little lacking) really shine here. Service is always interesting. It is friendly though maybe a little cooler than I would expect. This does help build a laid back atmosphere, but I think tends itself to slower service than I would prefer. I have tried quite a bit of the menu. The curries are solid but again I really want more spices in an indian style curry. Similarly, the enchiladas are a little bland but also a little dry. I would avoid these. The tacos, I have not tried yet, but everyone I have gone with that has tried them really loves them. The naans are also pretty good. Maybe a little small in portion for the price but they have a good amount of butter and a nice balance of soft and crisp. My biggest issue right now is that sometimes the rice just is not cooked that well. Last time it was fully cooked with a nice softness, but was still very clumpy and not the fluffiness fresh nice rice should be. Generally Nasha is pretty good. Nothing stands out as incredible but most food I have eaten here has left me fairly satisfied. I would say prices are also pretty fair. read more

Wow, after a somewhat lackluster evening at a singles party where they ran out of booze and toilet paper, where it was loud and the yuppie babies kept bumping into us, Nasha totally redeemed the night. We walked in around 10pm, neither of us having eaten a good dinner before going out. Dang, it smelled good in there! The hostess/server sat us at a cute table right by the window. We ordered the veg samosas to start. They were hot and tasty, a little lacking in variety of texture in the inside but definitely hit the spot. So I like Indian food but definitely mild on the spice. I was going to order the Shahi Korma cause I love Kormas but the server advised that it's often at a medium spicy and recommended the Tikka Masala. I have never really cared for that dish either way before. Holy hell. I'm going to have dreams about that sauce. We also got the Aloo Gobi which was a nice compliment, but I think even next time, get a Tikka Masala with chicken and one with veggies. Yep, is that good. The chicken was really good but the sauce totally stole the show. I don't understand the comments about the portions being small. My friend and I thought it was a total steal for the quality. We struggled to finish the Tikka Masala but had to cause it was so good. Our bill was $44 and we had the samosas, one fancy drink, one beer, two entrees, naan, and took a to go container. Really good and interesting food. We dined here as a family last night and I was very pleased with the menu choices. We had the queso, chicken wings, and potato puff appetizers. The queso was amazing. One of my favorite I have ever had. I ordered the millionaire curry and my wife the paneer masala. The millionaire curry was great with the right amount of spice. The masala was a little on the creamy side but still delicious. The one reason I did not give five stars was due to the lack of attentiveness by the waitstaff. I had to track down the waiter after about 10 minutes of waiting for water. Same with the check and other items. A simple check on the tables would have made this even better. Went today for the first time for take out! I thought the food was really food, got the paneer enchiladas. The garlic naan was really good and it's a massive size. We had ordered two orders of naan thinking we would need more for 3 people but the food was so filling that one would have been just fine. The only thing I would say is to keep in mind that their happy hour specials are only for dine-in. With coronavirus going on, I haven't wanted to dine in anywhere yet, so truly thought these happy hour specials were made to encourage people to order more food regardless of dine-in or take out. I had placed an online order and when I got in store, I read the giant sign saying that appetizers were half off from 4-7 so this convinced me to add an order of queso to my order. However, once I paid and went over the receipt, I realized that I was charged full price. I came back inside to ask and was told it was just for dine-in. Wouldn't have added this to my order had I known, but it was tasty! Overall, I would recommend. Didn't try their drinks but they sounded really good and affordably priced! read more

This is a fun little spot with friendly staff and great food. We started with the tikka con queso which was fantastic, and I had the hot paneer biryani (huge!) and my girlfriend had the chicken tandoori tacos, both of which were great. I went to pick up a dinner order and it was ready, but I wanted to add Naan. There were only 6 patrons in the restaurant and it took almost 30 minutes for the order. They kept saying it was made fresh, but 30 minutes??? I should have ordered the Naan when I got the food, but I had no idea it would take that long to get the bread. And I had to keep asking about it instead of an employee telling me it would be awhile. And it was semi- burned. read more

Update post response from Owner. I'm extremely disappointed, yet again, to have read the response. The way the response starts 'best in town margaritas' makes me realize that I used the word 'pretentious' right. 1) Hot water was NOT offered. We were refused 3 times!! Upon persistent insistence someone else offered hot tap water, even after explaining why. Here's a handy tip, next time a customer asks for hot water (maybe they have sore throat or simply dieting or for a baby), just get the hot tap water (since you anyway serve tap water for drinking as per your server) and avoid a Yelp lashout. Especially from someone who spent more than $100 at your restaurant!!! 2) I do not have to comment on what classifies as breakable in the restaurant, and at that point in time, I assure you we had the best interest of our only child's safety. There was no need for the server to be rude about the 'breakable' item in the table, you certainly do not have a right to put a hand anywhere near anyone's baby. Of course he did have a right to guard the 50c ornament with his honor from a baby, from the response I believe that the business is proud that he did. 3) I had already stated which part of the food was good. We do not remember at what point during the meal we were asked that question, but yes, we would have been truthful if we were asked at the end of the meal (and certainly not rude about it) 4) When we asked the server about the auto gratuity, he very clearly mentioned (untruthfully so) that it's for 4 or more guests. We had to point it out to him in the menu that it's for 5. We did not continue the discussion, because we just wanted to get out of the restaurant. I was not aware that you count children as one more in the party, although unfair, I wish to acknowledge that the response does clear my doubts. read more

Picked up the husband at the airport. We are both starving but it's 10 PM and options are limited. I'm craving Indian, which is not generally easily accessible after normal dinner hours. Enter Nasha to save the day! Oh, how I love a good late night option that isn't Kerbey or 24! And this one is so delicious. We started with the chips and salsa (papadum and an amaaaaaaazing Indian spiced salsa) and a side salad. Both were really yummy, but the chips and salsa situation was particularly great. Then we had the Tarka Dal (hot) and the coconut chicken curry (medium). The dal was super fragrant and spicy with curry leaves abounding. It was different than other dal tarka I have had, but I liked it a lot. The coconut curry was awesome. I usually am not a fan of coconut curry, as it tends toward sweetness and heaviness. This one is totally different from your run-of-the-mill coconut curry; it's not creamy or sweet, and the coconut flavor comes from freshly roasted coconut! It's really different and a nice surprise for folks like me who don't generally dig coconut dishes. Their beer list and cocktail offerings looked really great, but we were not partaking. That being said, I will definitely be returning for a seat at the bar and a few drinks. Also, I loved the plates, bowls, and cups: a hammered metal collection that was beautiful and functional and felt very authentic. Great food with decent prices! Thoroughly enjoyed the garlic naan as well - nothing beats a good piece of naan. This will probably be my go to Indian restaurant in Austin. Taking off a star because of the service. While some employees were awesome, some others seemed like they didn't want to be there. I wanted so badly to love this place. It was a busy Sunday evening. Chicken enchiladas with tikka masala as the sauce. Sounds great right? Wrong! Three of us got the enchiladas and the consensus was way way too dry. The chicken inside the tortilla was unseasoned and with zero sauce, which left them very boring and, can I say again, dry. There was a thin layer of sauce on top. So the obvious solution was to ask for more tikka masala sauce. Which I did. But I was rudely turned down saying the kitchen doesn't offer extra tikka sauce. That's a big no no. Sometimes I order garlic naan just to dip in tikka masala sauce. I would have paid a good sum to have extra sauce. But to not even offer it, at an extra cost, is ludicrous. By the way, the naan was mediocre at best. The Trader Joe's frozen stuff is superior. Will not return for any reason. read more
