A little pricey for a tall but whatever, it's a local business and I felt good supporting. The barista was super nice and friendly, chatted about their newly opened store. Narrative Coffee provided me with one of the best cups of coffee I've had in ages. As a coffee snob, and a frequent visitor to various, highly praised coffee shops/roasters, I view myself as fairly hard to impress - but Narrative Coffee hit it out of the park. These guys know their coffees. They understand the various intricacies of creating a great espresso-based beverage, know what roasts will pair best in various beverages, and know what brewing method will yield the best flavor with each particular bean they offer in house. Not since Olympia Coffee Roasters have I ever been quite so impressed. I should mention too that the staff and owners are beyond lovely and welcoming people. I will return for the coffee, and will try and soak up as much knowledge and insight as I can from these gentlemen. What a surprise! We were on a long road trip from California and decided to go a little out of our way to go to this gem. I'm so glad we did! The coffee was unreal (shout out to the Mocha!) and we had the breakfast burrito too. Clean, fresh and parking was so easy. The whole staff was very friendly. With Covid, they have many signs up for spacing, spaced out seating and will hand you a straw with tweezers. They're going above and beyond and it shows. It's a large space but tables get taken up quickly with people who camp out to work or study. I love coffee. I REALLY wanted to love this place. The vibe is chill and people keep raving about it. But both times I've tried it, the coffee was sour and acidic. It looks and smells pretty good but it's the weirdest flavor I've tasted in coffee. I only choked it down because it was expensive. Soooo disappointed. We lived in Italy for 3 years and it's a religion...it sets the standard. And I've pulled shots at a coffee bar and have about 5 different ways to make it at home. The potatoes were caramelized, soo good. Another favorite is the biscuit with egg and avocado. Oh also the monte cristo is lovely! - friendly staff - They play good music on their record player. - They have a self-serve honor bar in the back if you want to self-serve your coffee. Specialty coffee with a specialty vibe. Great coffee, great food, great people. You can tell they genuinely care about what they do and they do it well. I was nervous the first time I came in because their coffee menu was written out in a way that I wasn't used to ordering. To be fair, I'm not usually picky on coffee because I'm more about the milk and sugar. But the drink I got was significantly, noticeably better in quality than anything in the area. The temp, the milk texture, the flavor of the coffee itself: perfection. And the really nice barista man with the fluffy hair, I didn't catch his name, made the drink look beautiful. His latte art was so clean and crisp looking, it's like a walking IG post. I've never appreciated what "Good Coffee" meant before coming here. Consider me a convert! Also the benny is to die for. Don't skip on the food. It seemed a little pricey to me when I ordered, but that first bite made it crystal clear: you're paying for the quality of what you're getting. Not only will you experience excellent coffee, but they will teach you everything there is to know about the coffee you're consuming if you'd like. It's amazing to see what Maxwell and his team can do with limited resources and their location. A reminder that it isn't about the equipment that makes great coffee, it's the passion for coffee. Not very often that you can get an amazing experience with coffee and be standing in the middle of a courtyard standing in the sun (or any other weather you're experiencing at the time). I am all for traditional Italian coffee servings but Narrative Coffee is serving coffee in new interesting ways. As well as more traditional inspire servings they're also serving coffee cocktails crafted by Maxwell himself. The cocktail that caught my eye during my visit was inspired by a whiskey old fashioned with coffee replacing the whiskey. This is not a drop in and grab a quick coffee place. First time I was here was confused by the lack of a menu. Same issue with their website. Ended up leaving without ordering anything. The menus are at the front desk only and on little half sheet sized cards. Once I worked through that quirk the rest of the experience was good. Do recommend the shaken iced coffee. Had it with their vanilla syrup. The heirloom tomato biscuit was excellent. It was so tall when I put it together ended up pulling it back apart and knife and forking it open face style. Was still delicious. Wife had the french toast with peach syrup and two baked eggs on the side. Also excellent, she let me have a few bites. The space is in an interesting old brick building, which is open to the bricks and rafters. This makes it kind of echoey and I found it difficult to hear inside. Over all, would recommend. read more

Narrative coffee makes the best brew north of King County, so if you are up this way, get your butt on over to try a cuppa. Their waffles are also supposedly excellent, but this gluten-free girl cannot abide by the wheat, so you'll have to take my honey's word for it. The atmosphere is bright and modern without being sterile, thanks to the wood accents and plants sprinkled throughout. The staff are friendly and there is always a steady stream of customers waiting for or enjoying their fix. This would be a 5 star establishment save 2 things: 1) The music is perpetually too loud to think and the acoustics in the building do the problem no favors. This is not a good place to work and sometimes even having a conversation is a challenge. 2) It's okay to supply gluten-free folks something tasty that is not so processed that it has a shelf life of 3-6 months and tastes too boring to justify the excessive price. It's my second time coming here and it's just as awesome as I remember! Service is AMAZING - all the barristers are SO nice and are genuinely passionate about coffee. I had the mocha and it was DELISH! There's a cute little "honor bar" in the back - it's basically a self serve coffee bar and you check out yourself. There's a lot of seating and the decor is gorgeous. There's skylights throughout the shop so you get a lot of natural light which is actually such a game changer if you're sitting for hours working or reading. They also sell a small selection of baked goods and merchandise. If I lived closer I definitely would frequent this coffee shop on the daily!
