Amazing! Busy shop on a Saturday at 8 AM, but definitely one of the few espresso/speciality coffee places that also serves a good amount of food and not just pastries. Service was great and people adhered to COVID guidances. I tried an oat milk latte, a breakfast sandwich and a chocolate chip coffee. The coffee was the perfect temperature and milk nice and foamy. The biscuit used for the sandwich was divinely buttery and moist. The chocolate chip cookie had nice grains of sea salt on top to help cut through the sweetness. I love the way their coffee tastes. I got a 12 oz double oat latte, no flavors. It really tasted like coffee without being acidic. Instead it had nice and sweet caramel and chocolate tones. Perfect! What wasn't so perfect was the atmosphere, I really did not enjoy watching the baristas taking out the trash and scraping food leftovers from plates right in front on me while I was trying to enjoy my coffee at the bar. Can't they do stuff like that in the back? What ultimately also put me off was the sticker shock: $7.50 for a 12 oz latte?!?!?!? And I thought Starbucks is fueling the inflation! I was in Everett for jury duty and in desperate need of a coffee fix so I started to look for local coffee spots to hit up during the break. Just my luck that this place is not even a block down from the Snohomish court. It's such a quaint place. Love the atmosphere. Love that the music is not loud but loud enough that you enjoy it. Seating is adequate for both large groups and small alike. There's stool seating facing the window so if you just want to grab some coffee and sit by the window, it's perfect. Now the most important part! The coffee is amazzzziing! You can tell it's made with care and love. It's easily one of the best coffee I've ever had. I ordered a simple but my go-to drink: a vanilla latte. It was smooth and gave me the pick up I needed for the rest of my day. I don't really find such spacious cafes let alone so many different areas/types of seating. Probably only in Portland and other places further away from here. But man this place!! Whether you want to sit on a couch, be super focused in the corner next to the bathroom and have the least amount of interactions with people, or even a huge wooden table with a large group (if it's not already taken). This is advantageous in many ways with how the sounds aren't picked up and it's not too loud to get work done, but also you can conversate all day with your friends without distracting others. I got one of the drinks on the special holiday menu with the hot toddy and it wasn't exactly my cup of coffee but I thought that I'd try something new. The barista was super helpful in explaining the drinks, but now I know that I prefer not to have my coffees with coconut from personal preference. It's really 3 1/2 stars. It's tough to give a coffee place with a great atmosphere and an amazing latte three stars. If you know my reviews I strive for fair and accurate and also understand there's others who can read the review and decide for themselves what's important to them. With that in mind, here's why: On the website I was impressed and inspired by the term quality forward to describe their product. And I would agree that the quality of the coffee and the clean and inviting atmosphere are quality forward. But the individual at the cash register was sullen, placid and truly not very helpful when I was struggling with the selection. Quality forward must indicate all products and (people!)exuding Freshness combined with flavor made with care and quality ingredients I would say. The biscuits professing I think to be house made, resembled more of a hockey puck. It wasn't hot and fresh - it was thick and greasy...clearly didn't seem made that day instead seemed held over anywhere from 1 to 5 days. Something I would expect at A non-quality forward place, such as Popeyes chicken. One final aspect as a barometer to my reviews in the past, now and going forward, is an element of a sense of 'value' about my experience...Always waiting at least an hour to remove any lingering emotion from the experience. To be blunt, I felt ripped off getting a biscuit like that and not feeling welcome into the establishment. So in the spirit of holding accountable businesses to the end of providing consumers the best value and quality for their money I give this- yes delicious coffee aside- 3 1/2 stars. read more

I'm from an area where you walk everywhere, so it's odd to wander around Everett and see how few social spots there are. Narrative is kind of an island of like-minded people in what otherwise feels like a sort of sleepy and anti-social neighborhood. Narrative's got a really nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and some great drinks. In particular the salted bourbon butterscotch latte stands out to me (I know, it's got quite the name) as well as the true test of a good coffee shop, a solid chai tea latte. On top of all that, they've got a pretty decent food menu including sandwiches, salads and biscuits. Narrative's by far my favorite place to work or study out of, and it's a pity there aren't more spots like this around. So long as you like being around people and don't hate "trendy" places, this is by far the first place I'd recommend checking out. read more

I came here during my lunch break while I was at Superior Court down the street for work (I am a paralegal). I am surprised that this place isn't flooded with attorneys and employees from the court house! It is so cute and beautifully decorated. The staff is so friendly, as soon as you walk in you are greeted with a warm genuine welcome. There is plenty of seating. I love how it is only one block away from the court house (there aren't many other options nearby either). I was super impressed with their products. I ordered an oolong tea and I was pleasantly surprised they use real loose leaf teas and they make it just how I learned tea is supposed to be made when I was in Beijing! They run hot water back and forth from the mug to the tea pot through the filter, that is the traditional method that not many places do anymore in the US. Of course tea bags are a big no no. I also ordered a lemon bar and it was so fresh and soft, I am obsessed! I will absolutely be back next time I am here for work. read more

I love finding new coffee shops with ambiance! This was no disappointment there. I was however disappointed in that I called 2 months in advance to reserve a table to host a networking event and the day of showed up to be told they could not accommodate us at a table. We made due with moving some furniture about but wasn't quite the same and made conversation with the group difficult. I did quite enjoy my americano and the skillet breakfast was very good although a bit heavy on the butter but I will be back!! The good: the coffee here is really, REALLY good, and the food is amazing as well. The bad: quality coffee and food take a good bit of time to prepare, no exception here. My friend brought me here on a windy, but sunny, Sunday morning in April. Nestled into a pocket of Everett ripe for gentrification and hipsterism, Narrative Coffee is a perfect spot for a bite and a well-crafted cup of coffee. Espresso machines whirring and frothers frothing. The place was buzzing for an early weekend morning, but...coffee is life. Order at the counter, get a number and wait for your coffee - or take a seat. It was hard to find a spot to station ourselves, but we managed at the bar along the big front windows that look out onto the street. We ordered some nibbles (avocado toast? I don't remember, I was hung over). But I do remember it was good, and just what I needed. The coffee was also really good - they have non-dairy options for those of us who avoid the moo-milk. Although the joint was noisy, it wasn't so noisy we had to shout to hear each other. My friend and I had a great chat, smiled at our neighbors and cooed over the little kiddos hanging out in their strollers while their parents fueled up for the day. I grew up in the PNW and always thought Everett would stay solidly blue-collar and avoid the trendy trappings of big bro to the south (Seattle). But the little Boeing town has grown up and Narrative Coffee is just the tip of the brogrammer iceberg. I'm not complaining, I think it's nice. But it's not the Everett I remember. The best coffee spot in Everett! I was pleasantly surprised to see how cute this place was. Immediately fell in love with the ambiance of this cafe. So glad I made my trip up here. After hearing too many good things, plus a cookie my friend brought for me, I had to come. (He is a regular here) Ordered the almond milk latte and the iced cortado drink. My only regret is that I didn't get a bigger size! You can see and taste the effort that the staffs put into each drinks. All the staffs were super friendly and even handed me my beverage to my table when I was not being attentive. Also ordered three salted chocolate chip cookies, two sweet waffles, and one cheddar chive waffle. Would have ordered more cookies if they had more! Heard that the owner's wife makes the cookies(?) Not a big sweets person, but this may be my favorite cookie now. Mine was freshly out of the oven and was served hot. But really, hot or not, both delicious. Between the two waffles, I personally prefer the sweet waffle more, but either way, you cant go wrong. Trust me, you need to get one of the waffles here! (Or both!) My husband and I stumbled upon this coffee shop since it is down the street from Funko HQ and my husband and I have dropped in to the Funko store 3 times total on our trip but that's another story :P Narrative Coffee is one of those places where you walk in and immediately feel welcome. I wish I got the name of the worker who was ringing us up because he was incredibly helpful! He answered all of our questions with detail and without rushing us and you could tell he was proud of what he was serving. We ended up ordering two waffles - one savory and one sweet - as well as a latte for me and a lavender soda water (I think this was named something else, but that's essentially what it is) for my husband. The waffles were so tasty - the savory one was cheesy and the sweet one had sugar in the middle that melted into a syrupy texture (okay I'm drooling just thinking about it again). The latte - complete with latte art - was the perfect temperature and so yummy. The lavender soda water (seriously, what the heck was this called again?) was incredibly refreshing. Not to mention - the ambience was trendy af. Exposed brick walls - check. Reclaimed wood tables - check. Chill background music - check. Narrative Coffee is surprisingly good. Easily the best coffee in Snohomish County and quite possibly the best food as well. The food here is unexpectedly delicious. They change their menu frequently and offer a different menu for breakfast and lunch. Narrative Coffee rivals the great coffee shops in Seattle and other major cities. It is not normal to find this type of quality in Everett. The only thing that frustrates me is the parking. There are a bunch of parking spots around the building, but it's unclear which ones you are safe to park in. This cafe was such a pleasant find! There are many options for coffees and teas, along with other drinks, including alcoholic. There is a bar area for sitting, or individual tables. The interior is clean and has a subdued type atmosphere, with high exposed ceilings and dark woods and metal decor. Very chic. We ordered the french toast and the apple & brie sandwich. Both were fantastic! The bourbon salted carmel sauce on the french toast was very tasty. My tea was good, and the self-service "Honor Bar" coffee tasted good as well. There are only 2 things for which I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5: 1) The smoke from the kitchen in the back was pretty bad inside the main area of the cafe. I left the cafe smelling like breakfast sandwiches - not the worst smell, but if I was coming in before or during a work day in my work clothes, I would be a bit displeased to go back to work smelling like food. Also made my eyes sting a tad. 2) One of the employees behind the counter who was preparing the toaster oven food & also the drinks has long, blonde, frizzy hair, through which he kept running his hands periodically .... eek. This a one of those coffee shops that takes coffee seriously. There is a limited amount of options for how they will serve their coffee. This is not your traditional place with tons of flavors to add, they want you to enjoy the coffee flavor. They offer two different coffee from different roasters every month so you will not get bored going here. The barista's are the more knowledgeable you will find around this area. This is NOT Starbucks, this is quality coffee served by competent baristas that will answer any questions you have! They haven't been around long and have already won some prestigious awards. There is a decent amount of seating but not a great place to have an intimated conversation with someone. I wouldn't say its loud but you may be sharing tables with others. The parking sucks but you can't really hold that against them. 5 Stars! If you like coffee and I mean; like coffee!
