Thus far Narrative Coffee is the best independent coffee shop experience I've had in Everett. In my original review I gave Narrative a 4 out of 5 for simply not offering cold brew coffee, but when Maxwell, the shop owner, responded and fully explained the shop's reason for not offering cold brew he changed my opinion. I'll admit, I did have a 5 star experience at Narrative and my giving 4 star review was simply my sassy side coming out; the shop truly does deserve a 5. They don't have the street waffles anymore but they expanded their menu quite a bit, and the offerings are delicious! I've tried almost everything on the menu and nothing disappoints. They got really creative during lockdown, offering breakfast burritos and rested iced bottled lattes to go. I was happy to see when I came in today that they still had both! I loved the interior of this coffee shop! And I've heard a lot of good things about their coffee, but since I don't drink coffee I went for the hot chocolate. If you like dark chocolate I'd recommended, but I would definitely get their chocolate chip cookie! It was baked perfectly! Super soft and had the perfect about of salt shavings on top. Really rich and delicious. I made it down here since it was the closest coffee shop open next the Delta Marriot Hotel. It looked pretty busy for 10 am on a Saturday, which should further convince ensure someone stopping by. I did not try any of their food items but some of it looked really promising. Narrative is everything we have ever wanted in a coffee shop. The staff are friendly, hardworking, dedicated, and make our day every time we stop in. The coffee is always delicious, and the atmosphere of the shop makes you want to sit for hours. Highly recommend the chocolate chip cookies or the breakfast burritos. If your lucky enough to come when the cookies have just came out of the oven, you will be in bliss. We have so appreciated their response to COVID, keeping their staff and customers safe and doing what is right. Pre-Covid and eventually post this is a wonderful space to start off a morning before a hike, or spend a couple hours getting some studying done before a class. read more

Back to update my past review! Narrative used to be an amazing place and I think they've taken a bit of a turn. Went in a week or so ago on a whim since I was in the area. Though my coffee tasted good, the service I received was pretty unwelcoming to say the least. Along with my espresso I asked about the price for one of the jugs of coffee they sell (since none are listed in the cooler). The man at the register ignored me and just proceeded to add it to my order. He did not tell me my $ total for the 2 items. Then when I asked Again I was just brushed off and he didn't tell me. I sort of figured - well it can't be that much right? So I paid. Until he turns the screen around finally and I see the total. 1000% would not have purchased it had I been told the total the first 2 times. Though the coffee tasted good - I am a broke college student, so that's a LOT to spend at once for some coffee. Very upsetting to say the least. read more

Everett had been needing a coffee shop like this for a while. Amazing espresso, friendly staff + charming atmosphere. Li'l slice of caffeinated heaven on Wetmore. I had an almond milk cappuccino, as recommended by Ryan(?). Delicious and smooth. They change the beans each month after a blind cupping for the best roast. Honestly better than/on par with some of the best coffee I've had in Seattle, Portland and Salt Lake City. My only hope is that they grow their business sustainability- local roasting, fair trade beans, etc. ... Bring your chic friends, they'll like the vibes. read more

I'm torn-I've got to tell you that this place is located in a beautiful building, the coffee is amazing, the selection of looseleaf teas, also amazing. The service and people working there are top-notch. I struggled with my review here because I really would've given this a three were it not for the delicious coffee because of the breakfast biscuit sandwich I had. The sandwich was beautiful. The biscuit was just like you'd expect a homemade biscuit to look and the egg was practically perfect. The arugula was fresh and it all looked so delicious. It just was not at all what I expected flavor-wise. The sauce and the biscuit blended together into something that was decidedly single note in flavor. The arugula didn't do anything to add that little spice or kick to the sandwich and the egg was, well, an egg. I was so disappointed. Perhaps other food items are tasty. Perhaps this was a fluke? I will be back, I'm not sure if food will be on my list though. read more

Coffee and atmosphere is wonderful! Loads of natural light and a big open space make the old building more inviting. While I do enjoy what they have to offer, I do NOT like how my clothes smell upon leaving after a stay. Unfortunately they reek of coffee and food which I can only assume is from lack of ventilation. Holy cow, this place is awesome. I spent a lovely morning here while traveling for work. Possibly the best egg sandwich I've ever had. A perfect egg on a homemade biscuit so flaky and delicious it's best eaten slowly with a fork and knife. Iced cappuccino sounds odd but was great, plus I enjoyed an exceptionally poured latte. The Barista's take extra care here. I watched that gentleman working the espresso machine accidentally lightly tap the portafilter and disturb his carefully packed espresso grounds on the way to the group head. Rather than re-tamp it and make a sub standard cup, he tossed it, washed it, and started anew. There have been many adequate places to get coffee over the years, but none ever enticed me to want to stay and linger. For that, I have (willingly) had to drive in to Seattle to get good coffee and good ambience. The waiting is over. Narrative Coffee is a true coffee-lover's coffee shop. The coffee is artisanal and high quality. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is flooded with natural light (aided by warm lighting on darker PNW days), open, clean/simple, warm and inviting. I have - finally - found my new "place" to go and get coffee, read, meet friends ..... and just be. From the minute you walk in you are met with smiling faces and rad attitudes wanting to serve you the best coffee this side of the Mississippi. They are eager to help you find the right cup of goodness for your morning. The food that they have been adding to the menu has been absolutely incredible and something that I always look forward to. Super duper place, in all ways. Great coffee, friendly people, cool vibe inside. I'm an irregular regular, but they always remember me, which is a bonus. My go-to is an 8oz latté, choosing whichever of their two choices of the day sounds best. They're happy to help, too. Their on-site made food is a bonus: everything they make is really, really tasty. I'm partial to the world's best chocolate chip cookie. Biscuits a close second. Haven't tried everything, but generally drool when anything is on its way to a customer. Best bacon egg breakfast sandwich ever ! A touch spicy, which I liked, it might have been the arugula. It came on a large homemade biscuit, with a very nice balance of flavors. I didn't have the nerve to try the whole creation as a sandwich since the egg was a tiny runny (that's good), so I ate the egg on the side with my sandwich. Delicious The cappuccino was as delicious as it was beautiful, and the ambiance very low key, nice old construction with a brick wall retained for character. Beautiful. Stopped by here on a Sunday morning while passing through town. No parking issues (the was plenty of street parking on a Sunday morning). If I have one work to describe this place; it is CLASSY! They have many table for working on a laptop and also a couple couches! Very hipster brick and wood theme. Service was quick and friendly. They clearly take coffee as an art - don't expect to get your Venti extra sweet white mochas here...that isn't even coffee. They offer many classy, small size espresso drinks! I miss this place as it is temporarily closed due to social distancing measures as well as their concern for employee safety/exposure. I love the great coffee and exceptional quality of food offered along with an awesome atmosphere (a rare combo)! I also want to commend them when this pandemic initially hit, they were one of the first to communicate to customers about what they were doing to help make sure the space is clean. I think it says a lot about the leadership of the owner. I also observed how well the staff was adapting to the new measures, and was actually practicing the cleaning seriously. When your friend tells you about a new coffee spot because she thinks it is your style, and she is on the money! La Marzocco coffee machine in Everett? Yep. Trendy Seattle vibe in Everett? Yep. Latte art in Everett? Yep. Premium chocolate and espresso in Everett? YEP YEP! I typically drive to Seattle and Bellevue for quality, authentic "Seattle style" coffee. I tend to frequent the shops that don't offer blended drinks or many flavors, because it is about the beans their flavor, their roast, and their smell. Narrative gets that, they respect the beans and only use what products compliment them. I am really won over by their decor. The brick walls and raw wood with hints of clean white tile, fit perfectly with the NW art. There are about 6 or more tables for 2 or 3, 2 couches for groups or couples, one large table for family or meetings, and I think 3 counters with high rise seating. Definitely check out their merch area, because they have some amazing products to gift or take home. Their staff is fun and watching them make art in the cup pretty much tells me the sip is gonna be worth the price. The price is steep, but $5 for a perfect cup of coffee is typical when they only source in specialty product. I get their ritual mocha 8oz $5 12oz $5.5 I get the same thing EVERYTIME, because I know no matter who makes it, it will be the exact same. That is a big deal to me. As a barista myself, I want the drink to be consistent. I would like mine a little warmer than I get it, but I am not sure if it is made at sipping temp or bean quality temp, so I just let them do their work. If you like chocolate but not sweet this is the spot for you! If you like a little sweet, you have to ask for it, and they add their own simple syrup. I have tried a few drinks, my hubs likes everything, but mochas! The bees knees is delish. If you want a specialty drink without all the foo foo, but bold in flavor, try this! It is crazy good. They also have an honor bar, cool idea huh? What does that mean? That you can just take a seat and fill your fresh brew in the back, and pay there. I am sure it keeps the line down and helps the baristas focus on drinks that require their making. Dont forget to try their pastries! I highly suggest their sweet street waffle, I get it every time as well. I ask for a drizzle of chocolate, because ummm chocolate. But they also have a cheddar chive waffle if you like a more savory taste. We have been a few times and we just cant help but swing in EVERY time we are in town.
