Usually my reviews super long and detailed, but i'll be short on this one cause last time i've been in Nargis couple of month ago (shame on me) but i promise i'm gonna update my review with some pics soon! This place is here a lot time but still, quality of food and service never change in a good way of course! My weakness is Shepherd salad with feta cheese but when u'll get it dont eat it all cause u also should order Plov and then mix it up with salad and this is fireee!!! Also one of my favs lamb 'n chicken lula (chopped meat) and of course u have to order lam kebab (out of this world) And by the way this is BYOB kinda place, so feel free... For dessert they got super nice napoleon and dont forget about cherry jello #yummy Thank you Boris for such amazin place in our neighborhood read more

Amazing cafe , great plates and atmosphere . Love food and personal. Definitely recommend

This is my second time coming here and the first Uzbek place I've ever been to. My boyfriend and I ordered the chicken shish kebab, pumpkin manti, compote, lagman, and spring salad with feta cheese. The food was great and the waiters were attentive and polite. We never felt neglected the whole time. They have some interesting videos playing especially for a non-Russian like myself. The only thing I find odd is that they charge for bread. On a side note, although we didn't order it this time, the pumpkin samsa is to die for. read more

We've been there a lot of times with my friends and we really enjoyed it. Everything is amazing about this place. Servers, food, atmosphere and music. Nice place to spend your evening or have lunch. I would recommend this place to everyone:) thank u read more

I went here with my family and must say that was pretty disappointed. To be fair, the food was pretty good but the atmosphere was just the opposite. People were rowdy, people on a neighboring table were watching a very loud video on their super-cool iPhone. I would have let it go since restaurant cannot control the crowd. But when people started smoking right at their tables (yes, it was outside, but still within the reach of NYC laws) and the restaurant staff didn't care about it, that was a huge turn off. Maybe I shouldn't be so critical, maybe they just don't know that they can get closed down if people in their restaurant smoke. Maybe. Food was pretty good but very heavy, very oily. I got fish but even that was swimming in oil. Bottom line, I would probably order from here to eat Uzbeki food but not go to the restaurant... Unless you're one of the people who was smoking read more

My first time dabbing into Uzbek crusine ... And it was a perfect moment. The fried eggplant salad was a melange of delight; samsa (chopped meat or pumpkin with onion in a pastry) was scrumptious ; you have to try the national dish: Uzbek plov!!! (Chunks of lamb with rice and carrots in an earthy rice ) is a MUST! Also try the dumplings-Manti ; steamed or pan fried ( I had the steam-delicious ) meat or vegetable!!!! The shish kebaball three types: lamb; chicken; beef was incredibly tender- unforgettable !!!! Oh and all Take Out!!!! You can sit and eat there. read more

Love this place! Bring my friends that come to visit often. Looking forward to the new location. Supposed to have a rooftop. Used to be more affordable. They also changed chefs if you haven't been there in a while but still excellent. The chuchvara is fire and the beef kebab never disappoints. read more

Delicious dishes 5 stars Soup kharcho, plov, kebabs always fresh Always fingerlicking good Service however was really something that I tried not stress over since the food was so good But one incident was really the last drop This place doesn't have water!!! Thats what the waiter said to me said they have mineral water for like 5 dollars but no regular water as per their management If I'm dropping close to 200 dollars for food to feed my family least you can do is offer a pitcher of ice water So after talking to management who also insisted that they do not have water informed me that they will make an exception and will get me a pitcher of ice water I requested Final result one glass of lukewarm water for a party of 5 no refill Will never come back read more

This is delicious Uzbek food at unbeatable prices. I've had all of the kebabs on the menu with the exception of the salmon, and they are all delightful. I bet the salmon is delightful too! All the salads are yummy, but I am partial to the achichuk, which is tomatoes, onions, and dill with salt and is so good with meat juice and some leposhka (which is the yummy bread that you should order). I haven't had the soups yet, but they look great. The samsas are also fantastic. Really first rate. read more

Terrible service, food was good but server Nadya was so mean to our table. We won't come back.0 customer service...Very disappointed

I have dined in this place multiple times . Unfortunately , steadily , the quality of food has gone down . The last time I ate there we ordered beef short rib kebab . The skewer was nothing but fat . I ordered oxtail stew to go . When I got home and opened the container it had 3 pieces of meat, a thin gravy and a few chick peas . I paid $18 for that dish . I was embarrassed when my husband opened it . They also charge 10% gratuity automatically , added to the bill , but nobody mentions it, so chances are , you'll not see it and tip on top of it . The quality and size of dishes are not what they used to be . Very disappointing . read more

This place is probably my favorite Uzbek joint. Cute waiters & wide range selection of drinks. Food is made fresh to order and exceptional. Great spot for meat lovers and late night takeout. read more

Do not order from Nargis using any mobile apps. Their pricing is 50% more or 2x doubof what's it is on the menu. When I called them, instead of giving price parity they said to deal with online app. To ownership: You do have control of 3rd party apps. These apps don't just randomly set pricing for your menu. You do! read more

My boyfriend is Russian and we stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring Brighton Beach a few weeks ago. Place doesn't look too appealing from the outside but it's quite charming inside. We did have to wait about 15 minutes to be seated but the food definitely made up for it! Their kebabs, salads and french fries were amazing! Washed it down with some Baltikas - harmony! Would definitely recommend if you're in the area! Sidenote: he ordered for us in Russian because their English seems to be limited - oh well, worked out for us. :) read more

I've been coming to Nargis for a over 3 years. This place has never let me down. The quality of the food and the money you pay for it. There is no other place like this in New York. The owner Eli is always there taking care that service is good and people are happy. Last time we came about 7 ppl, the place is always packed, so we had to wait for about 15 min. When we came in as soon as we ordered food just began flirting to the table. Now for The food. You have to get the mahnti, Lula kaba is the most juicy and flavorful ever. The lamb chops coming with amazing rice, and as well very flavorful, Nargis salad, and herring with potatos are a must!! read more

Really really good. The French martini is made with raspberry liqueur, so if you like raspberry get that. We also had plov-my favorite dish, achichuk, pumpkin Manti and a napoleon. Will be going back again, totally worth a trip from outside the neighborhood. read more

This was my first time trying out Uzbek and Uigur *thanks for the correction* cuisine and now I'm addicted! The food here is amazing. I tried the Lagman soup which was bursting with flavor. The thin slices of tender beef coupled with thick noodles and vegetables in a delicious savory broth. The Lagman soup is a must try here and is now my absolute, hands down, favorite soup of all time. The meat Samsa is a crispy, buttery, flaky pastry filled to the brim with meat and a little amount of onion and seasoning will fill your taste buds wanting more. The Lulya kebab was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The meat was so soft and tender and melted in your mouth. The waitress was attentive. She took our orders quickly, she checked up on us and gave refills for our water without asking. I will definitely be coming back here! read more

Food is good when they get your order right. But these days it's overpriced and there are many other options. Twice now I've ordered delivery and either they left something out or have substituted a cheaper item for a more expensive one. Instead of making it right with a refund, they offer credit for a future order. Why should I keep ordering from you if you can't get my order right? One would think with businesses struggling they'd want to keep customers coming back without holding their money hostage, perhaps some businesses aren't struggling as much as others. read more

Although I've never dined inside, this is my FAVORITE Uzbek/Russian delivery place of all time. It's very reasonably priced, the food is savory and the portions are generous. I REALLY wanted to give them five stars, but their delivery wait time is ludicrous at times. As good as this place is, the quoted time is sometimes so long that we passed on ordering. I think once, during peak time we were quoted an hour. At least they are usually honest about it. The problem is that once you know how good the food is and you get reminded once going through the menu, you simply won't survive salivating for an hour waiting for the food to materialize itself in front of you. Yes. It's that good. I haven't tried everything, but my favorites in order of deliciousness are as follows: 1. Salad Tashkent - the description includes "boiled meat" as the first ingredient which doesn't sound very appetizing, but wow, this salad is my favorite salad ever. 2. Samsa - the one with meat is my personal favorite, very savory and filling, although their pumpkin one is pretty good too if you're in the mood for something lighter and sweet. And for $2 and change, you really can't beat that. 3. Uzbek plov - very rich, with lamb chunks. 4. Crispy potatoes with mushroom and onion - always a favorite 5. Spring salad with (feta) cheese - fresh veggies and feta make it a very refreshing salad The only things I wasn't impressed with were their shish kebobs, but maybe because I have particular standards and tastes for kebabs specifically, so I won't hold it against them. read more

I dont get it. The food is just ok. Meat was ok. Salads not appealing. Sweets hit or miss. Portions are small. Seating is on top of each other. On a weekday evening the place had at least 10 kids and 3 tv screens are showing music videos that i would never let a kid watch. There are so many other places in South Brooklyn i would rather bring my money to. UPDATE Thank you for being condenscending Boris. I know what uzbek food is. I was looking for a good appealing meal and I did not find it at your establishemnt. It appears you see a lot of customers. And i am glad. There is enougj variety in Bk to please everyone. This was not my first time at Nargiz but it has been a long time since my last visit. read more

Absolutely love!! Came to Nargis after a 5K in Brooklyn and it was such a welcome sight. The second you walk in, you know you're in an unpretentious restaurant that has authentic food. Most of the waiters speak Russian (which was another plus -note: i don't speak Russian but my friend does) and it's very similar to familial style food service. As a vegetarian I thought it would be quiet difficult to find enough options but on the contrary we ordered so many appetizers that I felt like a stuffed Panda after the meal and still had some leftovers! My favorite dishes by far was the bread, which was sooo buttery an delicious that i wanted leave it in my mouth and die a blissful satiated death, and the spring salad, which was so decadent with the flavors of dill and feta that even writing this makes my mouth water. As a jersey city girl, i know this can be a far commute but it's honestly worth it every time! Thanks Nargis for such a great meal :). read more

This place is incredibly delicious! Serving authentic Uzbec food! My favorites are: Manti All the salads are delicious but the avocado salad doesn't have mayo so there's one healthy menu option The Kabab sticks (Chicken is really good and juicy) Plov And so much left to try! Food was even better this time, saamsa was hot and flaky. And the kababs were great. This thing with Bukharian restaurants is that when going in you need to remember that these place mostly cater to Bukharians. That being said, the service is weird and not very accomadating. I ordered the laghman and the noodles were scarce, when asked for more i was told the kitchen said it was "Impossible". What's impossible about boiling more noodles, I even mentioned I had no problem paying for it. But it wasn't meant to be. read more

Excellent, excellent food!!! I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars - the only reason I'd take half a star off would be - the long wait (while being told that the food will be right out) and the fact that they took away some of the food before we were finished (they did make up for it by bringing us a new plate). Truly, the food is delicious - amazing calf's liver, while it looked like it was promising to be a bit dry, it was most tender and delicious! The plov was tasty with generous portions of meat on top. The shish kebab and the lamb ribs - succulent! Can't forget the home made fruit punch - perfectly refreshing! The staff (most) are also very nice, welcoming, and cheerful. Definite recommendation! read more

Came here for a friend's birthday and I was really excited to try Uzbeki cuisine! The hostesses were efficient at greeting and seating our group but they should be more friendly. Two people trickled in after our group was seated and our waitress was only concerned about taking everyone's orders, while everyone's glass was not filled with water (the water came AFTER the appetizers came out). Then they never came back to refill our glasses either...we had to flag down one of the servers twice and ask them for water...so service needs improvement (I don't even know if they even deserve that automatic 10% tip posted outside the front door). As for the food, the portions are small but can be shared, similar to tapas. We ordered samsas (pumpkin, meat) garlic fries, all the different kebabs, liver cubes, yogurt drink, naan, eggplant salad, etc. The kebabs paired well with my yogurt drink and I'll definitely get this again next time I'm in the area. Highly recommend the samsas as well! Overall the food is pretty good and affordable and I enjoyed my first Uzbeki meal. read more

4.5/5. Truly deserving of the accolades it gets. This reputed establishment serves the best Uzbek food in NYC. Salad Tashkent was prepared very well. It is topped with crunchy fried onions complementing this salad containing the green radish, egg, and the boiled tongue with a creamy dressing. The use of scallion adds nice acidity. The only con is that it was a challenge serving it from the serving plate onto your own. You have to maneuver cautiously, otherwise the heap of onions will fall onto the table. Bojon, the roasted eggplant spread went perfect with the Turkish round bread. It is very garlicky, with a pronounced grilled flavor (For those worried about bad breath courtesy of all the garlic, your check comes with the gum for the table). Salad Nargis was very basic but all the better for it : The cabbage, cucumber, onion, tomatoes, and dill are tossed together in olive oil and vinegar. This salad goes very well with the Plov. And what Plov it is! Unlike many disappointing iterations I've encountered through the years, it was not overly oily nor fatty. The rice is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The secondary ingredients such as carrots and chickpeas shine through and add depth to the dish. The portion gets a generous amount tender, stewed lamb. The Turkish style fried veal liver cubes were cooked just right, with crispy exterior and soft middle. The yogurt sauce works very well alongside, adding acidic tang to this savory dish. This sauce also works wonders when poured over Plov, so make sure to ask for extra. The only gripe that I had with this dish is its presentation - the garnish of the lettuce serving as a vessel for the liver is rather uninspiring. The lamb kebabs were the real deal : marinated very well and cooked just right. The Shish-kebab sauce could benefit from more heat, however. The service was surprisingly expeditious and accommodating considering the place was %85 full on a Tuesday night. Unlike some others on Yelp, we did not have any waiting issues. Perhaps lady luck was on our side that night. Majority of the dishes here are home-style in terms of the portions and are great for sharing. Can anybody tell that I loved this restaurant??? read more

Outstanding! I would totally go here again. It's a busy place with a lot of local Uzbekis, so that's a better tell that it's good than ol' JO's review here - I'll say my piece anyway. The menu ALL looks good. My Jewy appetite was really coming out with all kebabs, salads, and offal stuff. I had no fear of experimenting - we had a radish and boiled tongue salad with a creamy sauce and it was great, no problem. But that was an extreme. The skewered lamb ribs were fantastic; they reminded me of cumin lamb at a Chinese place. I guess it's close geographically, so that makes sense. Also a standout was the fried potatoes with mushroom. Actually, it was all good, don't even take my suggestions and just go rogue. Staff was pleasant enough and the prices were fine. Let's go back! read more

This is my second visit to this place, and both times were absolutely fantastic. This is, what I call, an "honest restaurant, honest foods, honest service." Everything in balance. Highly recommended! The management there is pretty amazing, and the young people who make the waiting and support staff are incredibly well trained and nice. Nargis Cafe is best appreciated when you already have some experience with this style of cuisine, and/or have been in a similar restaurant before. Only then you truly can truly recognize just how unique it is. read more

I love this place! The menu is a la carte in almost every respect. Some people like that aspect, some may not. The pricing is very reasonable so don't let this sound daunting. If you'd like bread, you'll need to order it. I actually recommend ordering their traditional bread. It is tasty, large and comes out warm. Next, consider a salad. Most that I've tried are excellent, but if you're unsure about whether you want eggplant or hummus in your starter salads, then get the delicious cucumbers and tomatoes marinated in vinegar and dill. Then I always get their meat dumplings with golden sautéed onions and sour cream as a warm appetizer to share. They are just so, so tasty! Then, on to the skewers of kebabs. I always get the "lulya" which is a combo of beef and lamb that's quite delicious. The chicken is always juicy. With a starter salad, dumplings, and bread, a single skewer per person is probably sufficient, but I'd recommend two per person to be safe if you're hungry. I also highly recommend mixing it up and getting a taste of a variety of their kebabs. Without a doubt, I'll be back. read more

Ok, so the food was a 5, but the service was a 1. My colleague and I went here for lunch the other day before a meeting. The food I have to say is outstanding. I had some sort of dumplings with caramelized onions and a sour cream dipping sauce. Perfect seasoning, and they melted in my mouth. My colleague had the spring salad. He very much enjoyed it. They overdid it a little with the feta, but he still ate every last bit of it. We shared the babaganoush, and I must say I had dreams of it that night. My mouth is still watering thinking of it. Great texture and awesome flavor! Now for the bad. The service was plain awful. It wasn't busy, but the service was so slow, and our server was sort of rude. We got there and waited about 10 mins for our server. We waited another ten for water, and that was after we reminded him we had nothing to drink. They charge a 10% gratuity, keep that in mind. I'm not in this area often. So I doubt I will be back. Hopefully they improve their service here! read more

Nargis, aka. meat lover's paradise. I was on a Pescatarian diet at the time (amongst meat eaters), but I still thoroughly enjoyed me experience. There weren't terribly many options for my diet restrictions but for the options that were available, they were truly authentic food. We got a mix of foods, but for the ones I was able to try and particularly liked were: - the Non (Uzbek style round bread - which I liked better than the Non-toki) - Pumpkin Samsa - it was sweeter than I expected it to be - Salmon ShishKebab - it was perfect, from the grilled taste, to the quality of the fish itself. - Napolean Nargis - it was the perfect way to end the meal. It wasn't as sweet as most desserts are (which is what I liked most about it) and it cleaned your palate from the oils of the meal. Texture of the layers were amazing. The one dish I particularly did not like was the Khonim. It didn't have any flavour except for oils and butter. It didn't leave a good residue/after taste. I wish I could come back here just for the Napolean Nargis. Tis, its too far. read more
