Matcha Yuzu located on Silver Star Blvd inside the Asian plaza, China City, is a bakery and coffee…read moreshop. The bakery sells a wide variety of baked goods that are slightly higher in price. They do have drinks for purchase as well (espresso based drinks, matcha, etc.) , however, during my visit to Matcha Yuzu the staff stated that the drinks were not available at the moment. I've actually tried Matcha Yuzu baked goods at another coffee shop downtown before but I recently checked out their main bakery (had a matcha cookie there). I stopped by Matcha Yuzu on a Saturday around their opening time. The bakery is small and pick up only (no seating). Hoping to grab a caffeine hit I was surprised that unfortunately coffee and matcha drinks weren't available, according to the staff. Not sure the reason why but I can't comment much on their drinks! Baked goods wise, they have a large selection of baked goods on display, each individually packaged for you to choose from. The prices are higher than expected and I actually had a hard time choosing what to order! Staff recognized this and mentioned their bestsellers to me. I opted to grab a Isuzu matcha danish ($9). They accept debit and cash only. If you pay cash you don't need to pay tax!! I ate the danish later that day and it was delicious! The danish was filled to the max with matcha cream which was not too sweet. You could taste the actual matcha flavour which complimented the bread/danish well. It was great. Overall, nice spot for freshly baked goods in the Scarborough area!

The pretzel danish is sooo tasty. It's savoury and flavour is very Asian inspired. The salted egg…read moreyolk pinenut scone was sooo good too. The salted egg flavour was not too heavy a tasty texture. Loving this place! Please note for this review I cannot comment on the ambiance and service because I ordered it via Uber. Last Wednesday, I was at Woodside Square's food court, having an early dinner thanks to Beef Noodle Slurp. Next to this food stall was Baker Duck. I have been to the original Baker Duck at Denison Centre, which is close to my home. It was nice to visit its second location. I looked at the sign saying that if my items totalled at least $15, I could use my credit card to pay. I rarely have cash on me. Spending $15 was easy. The sour note to my visit was a female staffer to brought out three different baking trays with baked goods and managed to poke me with each them. Really? Coincidence or targeted weirdness? I don't know. I could have been nasty and tripped her. Then again, I wouldn't stoop to her level of stupidity. My haul consisted of these items: - Grilled cheese with pork floss - Egg salad bun - Tempura curry beef bun - Pork floss and bacon bun - Hot dog bun - Curry beef bun - Curry beef puff I got a different woman who helped cash me out. She was great putting my items in a bag. Each item was in its own bag. I appreciated it, as I saw some small flies going at the sesame balls. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I thanked the woman, grabbed my goodies, and headed to my car. On the whole, I loved everything that I ate. I didn't realize that I went hard on curry beef, but it's delicious. I should get the BBQ pork bun next time. The grilled cheese with pork floss around the crust was yummy and unique. It was the surprise item out of the bunch. I make a lot of egg salad. This egg salad was a bit bland. It also had iceberg lettuce, which could have been omitted. Not horrible. It just needed more flavour. I'm glad that I can say that I've been to both Baker Duck locations. Here's hoping that tray woman get her tray-poking issues fixed. (425)

I have seen an article about this place (introducing it as an award winning bakery) a few years…read moreago. It is a Hong Kong style bakery, offering a variety of buns (both savory and sweet) and tarts at affordable price. Stepping in, it was more like cafe offering variety of drinks than regular HK style bakery. Bright and clean. Looking closely at each product, the quality seemed to be better than other counterparts- each looked fluffier, less greasy, and a bit more sophisticated in presentation. I got - BLB (Bo Lo Bao): Crunchy cookie crust on soft bun. - Crispy cream: Crispy sweet topping on soft bao - Chestnut Bao - Sugar donut - Egg tart Buns are very pillowy. The taste was "milk forward", no detectable butter flavor, which makes their aftertaste light & healthy. I found that the texture is a bit drier than I preferred. We liked Chestnut Bao. Chestnut paste matched the milky sweet bun. Overall, affordable, a lot of options and comforting. Next time I want to try savory types of buns!!! Oh each buns are individually bagged and sealed. Which is great, but you want to open it before buns with sugar topping get soggy inside. ;)

Their egg tarts are excellent, along with their milk tea. However, I need to call out their frozen rice dishes. It's like a mini clay pot rice place, with chinese sausage and a salty egg. There are other variations as well. If you go to the food court in the mall, they have them already steamed hot and ready to eat! Pricing is reasonable. Each location I've been to has plenty of parking, very clean and comfortable decor along with friendly staff. I would highly recommend this local bakery in the Markham area.
