I came in not expecting much with a bakery in downtown Newmarket but wow this was surprisingly one of the best croissants I've had in recent memory. It's only been a few months since I came back from Paris and thus brought me back briefly. Out had the perfect texture of crunchy outside to fluffy inside that I expect from a croissant and the buttery flavour was to die for. Came by as we've been wanting to try out this bake shop for a while. However they're not always open. We made it in on a Friday afternoon. Parking can be found on Main Street, if you're lucky you'll get one! The choices were so hard as everything looked delicious. We ended up picking the chocolate chip coffee cake. It was $7! Service was friendly and quick. We took it home and shared it, the flavour was good, not too sweet which is what we usually aim for. However there seems to be some sugar on it that tasted a bit off, although we enjoyed it overall. Hoping to get a different item next time! read more

Just moved to Newmarket last week and already found this super tasty little bakery on Main. It would seem I'm not the only one who found it because they have a nifty little ordering system for same day pickup and my first order was placed at 10 am on a Sunday and as I was placing the order stuff was selling out. When I finally tried their product I could see why. This is a bakery that is focused on things like bread and croissants and brown butter cookies and boy do they do that all well. There has not been a single thing we've tried (and we've already placed a second order and shared with others, who have all loved their stuff) we didn't like. Some of the favourites have been the caramelized cruffins, the almond/chocolate croissant, and the sesame Asiago pinwheels. The chocolate chip cookies are also so good. I went to this cute little bakery in the afternoon and it didn't look like there was much left but they did inform me that there were still some items in the back. I tried the chocolate almond croissant and the brown butter chocolate chip cookies and both were super yummy! The croissant was fluffy and had the perfect balance of almond and chocolate. Earl Grey scone was excellent: crisp & moist, with a good Earl Grey flavour. Chocolate croissant was flaky & not too sweet, using good quality semi sweet chocolate. It was really a chocolate croissant, not a pain au chocolat labelled as a chocolate croissant. Chocolate almond croissant was amazing: so flaky & so moist, with rich almond paste. Their baked goods are delicious, I'm a regular for their cruffins and tea cake. Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because their hours of operations are a bit wacky. Would be nice if they opened earlier in the morning so their pastries could be enjoyed for proper breakfast instead of brunch or even just being open earlier for pre-order pickups. Otherwise, the service is wonderful, the treats are always fresh and tasty, it's well located and I absolutely HIGHLY recommend visiting. read more

Been looking forward to trying their pastries for a while! I follow them on IG and always watch for their specials that come out on the weekends (mainly on Saturdays). Finally made it up for a Saturday in the early afternoon hoping to try their peach tarts as they announced it would be their last day of peach tarts for the summer. They are open from 8-5 on Saturdays so when I arrived at 1pm and they were conpletely out of the peach tarts (and not much left of everything else) I was quite disappointed. To be fair they do specify that the specials are only freshly baked at 8:30 and 10:30. However I would hope that when your business is open till 5pm you'd keep baking to try to keep things in stock till at least 3pm. Anyways I decided to get their August special cruffin instead and it was delicious. The next day a friend came over and brought me more treats from them, completely coincidentally, and as it was the first day of September their monthly special was now the oatmeal choc chip cruffin so I got to try that too! Also got a Nutella cruffin which was also delicious (the Nutella sticks to the roof of your mouth, in case you get hungry later ;P) and some cookies which were chewy and wonderful. Overall, delicious and aesthetically pleasing pastries and baked treats! Just wish they had more stock as the store was underwhelmingly bare when we went in midday. read more

YUM!! So checked them out this past Saturday. The crossaint muffin hybrid was so good!! I also got a chocolate crossaint. The chocolate croissant was a bit heavy and I am not a fan of heavy croissants. But the cromuffin was out of this world. They have different flavours and the flavour I had was cinnamon. It was so good. This is a place to pick up your baked goods as there is little to no seating. I didn't try their coffee. read more

I can't in good conscience give Nutmeg 5*s. Is the storefront appealing? Yes. Do the items look good, out of what was left on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm? They looked fine, but again, there wasn't much left with all the baked goods on top of the front counter. In addition to not having much items left, I found the prices a bit on the high side. We're talking more than what a croissant/cupcake would cost at Whole Foods. At $3, cupcakes were the same price as Bake Sale, but much smaller. The only croissants that were left were Pumpkin Chocolate and although I love the idea of incorporating something seasonal like pumpkin into the beloved croissant, the croissant was more of a slightly dry bread than a flaky pastry. Butter tarts were also $3, more expensive than The Maids' Cottage across the street, and not nearly as good. If you're going to be offering a product that a neighbour is also offering (and has been for a long time), personally I'd either make my item larger/same price or cheaper. If you're the only show in town/on the strip, Nutmeg is not a bad option although I still find that nothing really stood out to justify the price points. read more

Today was my first experience with Nutmeg! As a native to Newmarket, it was the first time I really took a leisurely walk around the shops. Upon entering I saw a cute little shop with a very small display shelf. Yet, there were glorious treats casting an ethereal glow from within!! My eye went to the attractive looking white icing cupcake. Upon further inspection, I found out it was raspberry-white chocolate. My heaven in a cake lining! I snuck it into a different establishment on Main St (the location will remain hidden, for I do not want to be banned for sneaking in contraband), where I devoured in in 4 bites. It was very satisfying, indeed. The reason this quaint little bakery only received 4 stars is because I feel the owners(?)/staff could have been a little friendlier. My friends and I were trying to make small-talk and joke around and it fell by the wayside. Also, if I had one, itty, bitty critique about the cupcake, is I wish the raspberry flavour was more prominent. There were whole raspberries in the batter, but I wish there was more tartness to contrast the sweetness from the white chocolate! read more

Tried some cookies and a brownie from here. A very small bakery wtih a seat inside and also outside. More of a place to get sweets on the go. The cookies were super flat like a thin crust pizza. There were various flavours available like peanut butter and chocolate. Some flavours were already sold out when we arrived. I think the cookies are $1 each when you buy them individually as appose to getting a dozen. Thats damn expensive for a cookie if you ask me. The cookies tasted great and I would give them 4 stars. The brownie was lavader flavoured. It was chocolatey and chewy just like a brownie should be. Nothing really stood out on the brownie for me. They also had croissants and I wish I had room to fit that in my stomach aswell but I was just too full already from Mexican food down the road. 3.5 stars read more

Got in with 3min to spare before close. What an amazing little gem this place was to find! I was sad there were no strawberry cruffins left, but the Nutella one was off the charts amazing. What a unique and delicious treat combination! I've never seen anything like it besides the cronut. The cookies were also chewy, soft and yummy. My husband quite liked the cold brewed, nitrogen infused coffee. Bought two loaves of sour dough- the walnut one won't make all the way home lol. It's AWESOME. Highly recommend you try this little bakery with well crafted baked goods and great service. Wish I lived closer- I'd be in here ALL the time. May have to make a special trip to Newmarket from Georgetown for another visit. Wow read more

This place is a local gem. Delicious baked goods at very reasonable prices. You gotta try the cinnamon and vanilla dip croissants and the savoury croissant popovers! Love this little bakeshop on Main St. I was recently in Newmarket for a rotation at Southlake Hospital, and wanted to get something yummy for the nurses on my last day. This bakery came highly recommended to me, and I got there just in time before they closed at 6pm. I heard their butter tarts were out of this world. They were wrapping everything up when I got there, and unfortunately there were no butter tarts left. However, they had all sorts of cookies (got one of each, M&M, ginger, chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia for $1.10 each) as well as cinnamon buns ($3) and oreo cronuts (a cross between a croissant and a donut - $3.50). They were super nice and gave me two cronuts for free, as they had already packed 4 into the box but I only asked for two (THANK YOU!) I have to say, I LOVED the cronuts. So flaky and the perfect texture and size to share. The oreos on top and icing were amazing and altogether was perfect. The nurses also loved them and gobbled them up quickly. The cinnamon buns were also very popular, and were great heated up for 20 sec in the microwave. Overall, loved the decor and the baked goods, and amazing and friendly service. Would definitely come back again if I return to Newmarket! read more

I love Nutmeg! They have the best butter tarts! (Their competition across the street are good too but I love Nutmeg's version far more). The pastry is so flaky and syrupy filling with pecans is yummy! I also love their croissants, esp the plain (butter) ones and the cinnamon croissant with a vanilla glaze. Megan and Tim are super-nice and friendly. This weekend, I'm trying their pumpkin pie coffeecakes so I will report back about those. read more

Nutmegs butter tarts and I have a sort of Love/Hate relationship right now. I love how unbelievably delicious they are, seriously, I've eaten a lot of butter tarts and these are by far the best I've ever had. I hate though, how good they are because I don't want to stop eating them which means I have to spend more time in the gym and eating salads. I haven't had everything on the menu yet but so far everything I've tried has been amazing. Cookies, Scones, Brownies, butter tarts, and the Naked Cakes are all amazing. No other place in Newmarket/Aurora truly compares from what I've tasted so far. Haven't tried the bread yet but my brother did and wouldn't shut up about it so I guess I have to try that soon too. Today was my first time stopping in at Nutmeg. The first thing I noticed was how adorable the store was. I loved how they had all their pastry's displayed on different cake plates and cutting boards, etc. It smelt absolutely amazing the whole time. You just knew everything was freshly baked (and probably still being baked). I went in around 10 am and they still had lots of stuff, but the woman serving me told me that if I came an hour or two later most of the stuff would be gone. I ordered two of their August Cruffins (dark chocolat and caramel) and two of their Chocolate Croissants. My family was amazed and how fresh and delicious they we're! When my mom took a bite she mentioned that it was even still slightly warm which is amazing! The croissants were so flaky and buttery, it's everything you could ever want. Pricing is similar to other bakeries, I didn't notice much of a difference between Nutmegs pricing and Cobs pricing. We were extremely impressed with everything we got and will 100% continue to come back! read more

The pastries are great, cookies etc however- ordering a cake from here is ridiculous. You can ONLY order what's on their "seasonal" menu which is only 4 options. Ordering a cake for a birthday party of 30 people you would think that they would give you a few more options or allow you to customize the flavour somewhat - I get that it's a busy time of year and they want to make it as simple as possible for themselves "quantity over quality" but I mean adding sprinkles to the vanilla batter for 1 cake i think is a pretty minor request - I even offered to pay more for the trouble..... my daughters favourite cake and unfortunately their disregard to make a simple cake a little altered to suit a customers request was turned down . That left a very sour taste in my mouth . It's unfortunate too because their cakes are very good and always my go to for family birthdays. Good for simple flavours and non custom requests as long as your ok with choosing from 4 flavours, if not go somewhere else. Not accommodating at all. read more
