One of the best bakeries in the GTA. Such an awesome little spot. I highly recommend especially the carrot cake, all of the cakes really, cupcakes, eclair, monkey bread..ok ok let's face it there's not one single item that is not great there. I just challenge you not to buy everything as soon as you get there. I haven't taken pictures of every single thing I've tried; there's a lot, but I will share the baby shower cake they prepared for my friend. They also did our gender reveal cake which was perfect; I just can't find a picture! The service first of all was impeccable and the prices were super fair. Friendly staff who greeted me with big smiles upon entry and helped me pick a couple things. They offer a wide selection of Pastries (cakes, pies, bread, scones, buns etc). I tried lemon coconut square which was quite delish. I also bought a mini strawberry shortcake to try; which was just ok. I will return next time I am in the area. Ordered a carrot cake for my mom's birthday. The decoration is perfect!! The cake isn't too sweet, which I like. The frosting is a bit too heavy for my liking, but it goes REALLY WELL with coffee!!! The carrot cake is the only cake that I have tried at this bakery and it is Delicious!! The cake is very moist, soft and rich at the same time. The carrot taste isn't too overpowering and goes really well with the butter cream cheese icing. I generally don't like cakes that are too sweet so this cake is the perfect balance. We got it for our bosses work anniversary as this is her favourite cake! The cake was soo fresh that I could tell it was made that Morning. Don't know why I didn't know about this place earlier. I think this is one of the best bakeries in the Aurora/Newmarket neighbourhood. Don't be fooled by its traditional exterior-their cakes are definitely in point. I ordered a dozen of cupcakes for my baby's welcome party and they made them so pretty at a reasonable price. Recently moved to Aurora, and went with my mom to get a cake to celebrate our new house. Came across this bakery which is not too far from us, and was underwhelmed with selection and kind of upset about prices. The bakery smelled amazing and was so adorable. We bought the 8" lemon raspberry white cake (for $38) and I was very sceptical about the fact the cake was covered in buttercream, which tends to be very sweet. To my surprise the cake was the perfect amount of sweetness, flavour, and moistness. I thoroughly enjoyed this cake and would go back... if I have a good budget :) read more

I ventured into this cute little bakery on a Sunday morning and it was quite busy. There is a large variety of fresh breads, cookies, tarts, tea biscuits and squares. I picked up some tea biscuits (blueberry) ($1.60ea), Nanaimo bars ($1.75), lemon coconut square ($1.75), date square ($1.75), cherry cheesecake square ($1.75), butter tart ($1.25), pecan tart ($1.25) and corn loaf ($1.60?). They pack the bakery items neatly in a sturdy box and tie it with a string for easy transportation. My favourite of all these items was probably the lemon coconut square, but a few other items were a close second. I love that all of the items I got here are not overly sweet or heavy, perfect for a snack or with coffee/tea. I will be back to try the pull-apart cheese bread that others have raved about! read more

Really good local bakery. So far, nothing i've tried has disappointed (though i've only ever mainly ordered on the savoury side). What i can attest to is the breads are great - the foccia and garlic cheese twists are an easy and great addition to any meal. The one sweet item i have ordered from here is the flan, and it was light and airy and fresh. Overall, i'm impressed at the 'clean' baking style this bakery has. read more

We've ordered from Hurst on numerous occasions. When my cousin got married, I ended up taking her place and going in for the consultation. They told me what they were confident doing and what they would run into trouble with (which seemed to be very little). We have since gone back for both my nieces baptism cakes, a first birthday cake and anniversary cake. The cakes are always so moist and decorated for beautifully. What has me returning frequently are their little treats. We love their shortbread cookies with the sprinkles. However, every time I enter I want to try everything. They have pull apart loaves, sandwich bread, cakes, mini cake loafs, tarts, bars, cookies, macarons, etc etc etc! They sky is the limit here. I write this review now, because last week after visiting my mom the day of her surgery, her only food request was to pick up 6 shortbread cookies. I find that's a true testament to how awesome this place is. They also have tons of nick-knacks that are quite charming. This place may not be the most outstanding I've ever had, but they are consistently wonderful! They are reasonably priced, and always serve up a reliable, delicious product. A beautiful European bakery. You need to try the gingerbread. It's soft and deliciousness. Can get pretty busy, so if you have something you need, call ahead. I went into Hurst Bakery on the recommendation of a friend. This is truly "kid in a candy store (but it's a bakery)" for adults. The first them I went in, I bought a little bit of everything. So far, my favourites include the coconut macaroons, chocolate dipped hazelnut cookies and any kind of gingerbread cookie - those are too cute to eat! I tried what they call "monkey bread" and it was good but different from what I'm used to. I also tried their garlic bread: not as much garlic flavour as I would have liked. Their chocolate eclairs are truly amazing! The staff are always friendly and pleasant. The packaging for some items is cute: they wrap some red thread around the box to keep it closed. It's a nice touch and helps me restrain myself from eating in the car and leaving precious crumbs of goodness behind. I've scarcely touched the tip of the iceberg so I make this a weekend treat whenever possible. Check it out if you're in the area. read more

Best buns in town! Seriously, they are unlike any other type of hamburger buns you can buy. I can often be found enjoying one for a midnight snack...just on it's own. We had Hurst Bakery make our wedding cake on May 18, and we needed to review because it was PHENOMENAL. The devil's food cake was so moist and delicious and the vanilla buttercream frosting was not too sweet, it was the perfect combination. i always recommend this pride of the town bakery to friends from outside of town, if i dont give one of their cakes as gifts. the while choc mousse is the latest craze of our friendsbut all their cakes are delicious! i have tried almost all their cakes over the years but it is only now i decided to write about them and their yummy treats. i would talk about them as we go along. we just had their choco mousse recently and you would think it is too cholatey and you would think youèd have too much. i was wrong, it is still yummy. i am also a magnet for their creme caramel having grew up with leche flan (caramel flan) as my childhood fave. i am reminded of the time i eat it with daddy-yo who is now savouring in heaven. the consistency is just right, not too creamy or egg-y or too light. i also like how they wrap their cakes. simple yet elegant. their ever changing deco which are all on sale is something to look forward to every change of season. i love the shabby chic, country feel it exudes. a mixture of carusos ( a local florist in the area as well), well this deserves another accolade another time. their staff are ever so friendly and knowledgeable of their wares. they have other pastries and breads too. dont forget their banana cake. read more

The cake did not look or taste fresh, they probably had it frozen and defrosted it a few days before the pickup. They used cheap chocolate flakes, not real cream in the cake. ive been coming here since i was a kid.. i love their baked goods.. my favourite would probably have to be their chocolate eclairs, gingerbread cookies, and their black forest cake. the staff here are incredibly friendly. they always manage to find the sweetest most polite girls to work here.
