One of my favorite local spots - this place is easily the best Thai I've had in Houston - (and that includes Kanonowan off of Telephone Rd/I-45). I feel lucky it's in my backyard. The decor is clean - concrete floors, aluminum brushed metal chairs and tables, white paper covers over fabric and red accents. The staff is friendly and attentive. Their Tom Kha Kai soup (Coconut Chicken Soup) calls my name sometimes...and I'm obligated to drive there right away and order some! Traditional dishes like Pad Thai and there curry dishes are excellent here as well - but I tend to try something new every time I go and have YET to be disappointed. Amazing dessert...order the Sticky Rice...it comes with sliced mango and a coconut cream drizzled over the top...wow! Nara Thai was a great thing for my husband and I when we were stuck living in Atascocita! The four stars are for the food alone; the atmosphere and service are lacking. The scented candles on the tables are overpowering and make me lose my appetite, and the waitstaff seem ill trained and inconsistent. Delicious! The ambience is great, pretty urban/modern looking for the area, but tastefully decorated. Except for the chairs, which are uncomfortable. The food is fantastic. We head the veg. spring rolls, which they serve with a type of chili peanut sauce, the green curry, and the pad kee mao. If you ask for extra spicy, they WILL give you extra spicy. The best thing about it is that unlike most restaurants, they don't just throw more chil peppers on top, but actually up the "spices" in the food. The second time I went the tofu in the pad kee mao was about to go bad and you could taste it, but that was easily picked out of the dish. I would recommend eating there if you enjoy authentic thai dishes. The selection is not as large as it could be, but the food that they do serve is top notch. read more

Passed this restaurant a few times in past years, tried it a few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon lunch. I ordered Signature Dish #1 - BEEF MUSAMUN CURRY WITH AVOCADO. It came in a bowl: Cons: 1. I could not eat it, watery and fishy 2, Beef was chewy and was very tough 3. Some canned baby corns and mushrooms. Restaurants should never use canned vegetables Pros: 1. None, but service was above average 2. My companion said OK, watery, beef was very tough. ate most but beef. So, one star Do not know what reasons others rated NT that high? I was in Thailand ten times or more. NT was never in the league! Sorry, will not return! I did not complain, left my 15% tips before tax. Pros: Nara Thai is the best (even though there's not many) Thai Restaurants in the North East area of town. I've never went wrong ordering food here, the curry, rice dishes, noodles, etc are all great. Cons: Although the food is great here more then once we suffered from EXTREMELY slow or bad service. Many of our visits we just sat waiting on the check to FINALLY show up so we could get going. One night in particular we took my parents here for dinner and they brought out each dish to us one at a time and it took quite a bit of time for the last person to get there food. In my book, this is the best Thai place in the Houston and nearby areas. The food is tasty, and not too salty. The service is as-expected of all Thai place (a bit slow) although they do try to be faster to cater to more types of customers. I recommend Curry Puff for appetizer. I have to give this place 5 stars just because of their crab/cheese puffs. They are that good!! I don't know how they make them, but the outer shell has the most perfect crisp. It just melts in your mouth. If I could eat them every single day, it would be worth any health issues I would acquire later on. As a self described Thai food hater I was convinced that I would hate Nara Thai as much as I hate most other Thai places. I dislike peanut sauce as well as not being able to eat a lot of spice. However Nara Thai has converted even me. The ambiance at Nara is interesting for an Atascocita restaurant. It has an uptown feel stuck in the suburbs. Its done in a great red and silver theme but as reviewed before the candles are a little much as well as the chairs. My legs end up looking like colanders when I get up because the metal chairs leave groove marks in my legs. However I am absolutley in love with their appetizer shrimp blankets. These are whole, peeled shrimp that are wrapped in crispy spring roll paper and fried. They're served with a great sweet and sour sauce and these little chips that remind me of pork rinds. I'm not sure what they are but I love the way they taste. For entrees you cannot go wrong with crab fried rice. This was the first time I ever had it and now we eat it at least on a weekly basis. The rice is excellent. It's always moist with just the right amount of egg to rice combo. Then it's topped with Fresh Lump Crab meat. The combination of sweet crab with savory rice is awesome. Another awesome entree is the Orange Chicken. This is very much like sesame chicken at other restaurants. It doesn't have an overly citrus flavor and is topped with roasted cashews. The cashews and chicken make for a great combo. I've also had the spicy thai basil spaghetti which is good but not good enough to order again. Like most Texas girls I also have a negative gustatory reaction to Curry... However their curry doesn't bring out that reaction in me and I would try it again. The service at Nara Thai has always been great but we tend to go later when no one else is in the restaurant. They also do not do their own delivery but utilize the new delivery service in Atascocita Wearedelivery.com. They also have good takeout service and make sure to put little holes in the cartons of fried food so they don't get soggy. Definitely not a family restaurant but a great place to go on a date or to impress clients. read more

The Thai food at Nara is some of the best around Kingwood. However, the service is odd. We ordered for delivery, and the order was later canceled for little reason. The restaurant only refunded the amount for the food, not the $12.00 tip. Even after requesting a full refund a few times, the restaurant would not refund the tip for a food delivery that never arrived. I had to file a claim with my bank. Unfortunate that the service couldn't be a bit better. read more

My family eats here frequently. They have living social deals periodically that are really worth it. Food is always fresh and service is excellent. Try the anothai rice add basil, mussaman curry, orange chicken, crab angels, pad thai and peanut satay. You can't go wrong if you like Thai food. read more

But the welcoming staff and atmosphere make you forget about the wait and once the food arrives, you are in food heaven. My preteen son and I love to eat at Nara. Recently, he ordered the Pad Thai, and it came out a little spicier than he is used to. The server offered to have the kitchen remake it( but my son said it was fine, but asked if they had any milk he could drink to tone down the spice. They don't serve milk, but the server gave my son his personal single-serve milk bottle that he had brought for his own lunch that day. This is an unkempt run of the mill shopping plaza storefront. I love Thai curry, but the menu didn't have anything that actually reminded me of what I had while stationed overseas.
