Always a pleasure when i get the opportunity to eat here. Food is always phenomenally crafted. I wasn't previously a fan of peanut sauce until i tried here. I get the p5 on the menu and it's pretty decent cuts of meat. Lots of it that's for sure they aren't shy on protein. Services is always quick and happy to help no matter how busy. Store is clean and well maintained with lots of seating and accommodations for kids. Stellar place for family or dining alone. One of Houston's most successful pho establishments has to be Pho Dien, as they've quietly been killing it Chinatown, Katy, and Humble. For the latter, it's gotten to a point where no other Vietnamese spot has come close in terms of pho. For pho seekers who happen to be in Humble, Pho Dien 1960 is an absolute must. The place is small, but they've stacked their small dining room into a very group friendly setup consisting of small booths and tables. The stale air quality is reminiscent of old school spots around town and the young Viet guys running the joint keep the place friendly and efficient. In terms of the pho, there are no complaints. The broth skews somewhat sweet, but it's aromatic enough for me to normally slurp it completely dry. Their best asset has been the meat, which is excellent. Their combination dac biet is an excellent variety that includes meatball, tripe, flank, and some of the best rare steak and tendon I've had. The latter is buttery and smooth enough to where I can't get enough. I tend to order it in their XL (xe lua) size, which is an off-menu item that goes for nearly $20 ($19.45) and is one of the largest bowls I've seen. I always look forward to getting it. While their banh mi and bun dishes are not nearly the same caliber, they still pass the test as a quality offering. The cha gio is a bit paltry, without any greens and a small bowl of semi-spicy nuoc mam (fish sauce). Their Vietnamese coffee is chocolate-y, and perfect for to-go. Their weekday lunch combo special is a good deal, in which one can come in for a small or medium sized pho and get an order of two cha gio or goi cuon with an iced tea. Parking is really easy on the weekends, especially since most of the businesses in the strip mall are closed. It may feel a tad more expensive ($12-18 per most entrees) but this is the price one pays in suburbia without having to head to any of the enclaves. read more

This was my first bowl of pho since moving from the SF bay area. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive, offering drinks while you wait for a table. The space is small but ample, there is a bar and plenty of seats. The food however was underwhelming. I don't know if that is how they like to make their pho or if they are so used to the type of clientele that come in that they have adjusted their food to match their expectations. The broth unfortunately bland, there was no star anise, cinnamon, nor clove flavor that came through on the broth. It tasted just like beef bone broth. There didnt seem to even be fish sauce in the broth either. The noodles were tender, the toppings were generous, but the lack of flavor in the broth was enough to change the taste of the whole dish. I asked for fish sauce since they dont have any on the table, but that doesnt help much since the broth is missing the essential spice flavors. I hope they adjust their broth, because honestly authentic food is better, adjusting to local tastes just makes an unrealistic standard of your cultures food. ill come back and try again in a few months, see if taste has changed read more

Everything we ordered, from the pho and entrées to the drinks, tasted very good. The ingredients were fresh, and every dish was flavorful and satisfying. This time around, I got to meet the owner and I wish I hadn't... I got to the restaurant, having driven 45 minutes just for this chili oil. (Needless to say, yes, its worth it, and yes, it's that good.) I went to the counter and let the owner know that I'd like to purchase a container of chili oil. She confirms the order, I nod, then excused myself to the bathroom. When I came back to the counter, another worker asked me what I needed and I told him I was waiting for the chili oil. When the owner came out of the kitchen, the server asked her in Vietnamese if she had gotten the chili oil yet. She replies "Why would I make it for that girl when she hasn't even paid yet?" She walked over to me, closed me out at $10... then turned to the worker and spoke in Vietnamese again to say "Tell her she's going to have to wait." I was shocked by the stark contrast of the attitude and customer service that she gave in comparison to her husband. First of all, I'm Vietnamese, I can understand you, there's no need for that. Secondly, and this is what kills me, she didn't think I was good for... a whopping $10. I kept in mind that it took time to prepare the chili oil from my last purchase. Hence why I placed the order first, then excused myself to the bathroom. At this restaurant, the food is served first. After the patron is done, they pay out later. I don't understand why it was such a big deal to prepare the order first while I excused myself for a couple minutes. We were in the area visiting a farmers market and a half price books, the book store was better. After this foodies must refuel and maybe try another new eatery. Pho Dien 1960 had rave reviews and this will be another one. They have a small, medium and large version of their stellar pho. My wife enjoyed and shared a small bowl of chicken pho ga with rice and noodles. I need to see if I can get a small bowl next time and steal some of the broth, dipping my pork banh mi into the pho broth makes a tasty Sammy even better...and I don't drip as much across the table. We also shared a couple fried egg rolls. I had a fried egg added to my pork banh mi. I also enjoyed a Vietnamese iced coffee. Friendly people and great food. read more

I have been coming here once a week for the last 4 years. My bowl of pho is now $14. My husband's sandwich is $8. Their pho is more expensive than getting a roll of sushi. This place has raised so much prices when their ingredients are not that expensive. I can get a sandwich in downtown Houston for $4.50. This is too much. You lost a loyal customer. I picked up a large pho as I finally had a craving for pho during a reasonable hour. I like how they offered to pre cook my meat before I picked it up but I opted for cooking it myself. I do like that they asked! When I showed up, the place looked full, which is always good to see. I didn't wait long to get my food, and the gentleman at the register was very friendly. He noticed that I grabbed a menu from the counter and he gave me an updated one. Went here on last week Monday before picking up my brother from his recent trip, and was craving soupyyy goodness. Thank goodness for this gem. I found this place willing to give a new to me Viet place a try. For starters, i wasn't impressed it took about 7 minutes to get anyone to show up to take my order. There was only one other table being served. They do keep their menus at the table so when you arrive you can quickly order, but the hurry-up-so-you-can-wait process seems like a lack of coordination on their part. They have 4 sizes for pho from small to x-large. I was a glutton that day so I ordered the Pho Tai and brisket in the x-large size. It's definitely a lot of pho, more than for one person. I found the pho a little underwhelming in flavor though. I don't usually add condiments like siracha or hoisin sauce initially as to savor the pho for what it is.
