Jade Palace is somewhat of a whole in the wall ( I love hole in the walls btw) off of F.M.1960 in Humble...No bells and whistles and very out dated. However that being said, I REALLY enjoyed the "old school" menus, tables , and chairs and the very friendly and welcoming wait staff. And my Mongolian beef was very tender, peppery , and full of flavor. Some of the best I've ever eaten. I also enjoyed the crispy egg roll , eggy egg drop soup, and well seasoned shrimp fried rice..I gave 3 stars only because there was an off putting smell in the restaurant upon entering that smelled like a dirty fish aquarium that needed cleaning ... ( fishy and unpleasant) and the ice tea that was served was very watered down with no taste of tea. But again the food was good.... read more

First of all, I have been coming to this restaurant since it opened in 1978! And I won't go back! I ordered two Shirmp Egg Foo Young. And usually when they pack it that container weighs about 1-1 1/2 lbs, maybe 2 pounds! When I ordered this time, I got two containers that weighed about 10oz, 12oz at the most! And it was the worst tasting food that I have ever had! They gave me no rice, and left off 2 egg rolls! And the only reason that im g8ving it two stars, is because the male host was gorgeous! We have gone to Jade Palace for 40+ years. We were disappointed several weeks ago but wanted to give them another try. Won-ton soup was great. Fried Port rice wonderful Sweet and sour chicken was wonderful. Pork Slices they are improving every day. We gave them suggestion to pour the sauce over the slices. I was very hopeful when I learned they reopened and updated interior. The 2 star rating is given for the food. All other aspects failed. We ordered combo dinners, (entree, soup & egg roll) and was told we are out of egg rolls but you can order the deluxe Egg Rolls (additional charge). Waited 25 minutes for our soup and waitress only delivered one bowl. Total wait for the meal was just under an hour and then told, NO deluxe egg rolls. So we didn't really get a combo meal or a chance to modify our order. Paying the check was done in very poor taste. Owner and waitress at cash register- waitress takes my card and loudly says "how much tip do you want to leave and I'll enter it? Then, I need your PIN number. WTH?!? The atmosphere was no better, staff members child sleeping on table as you walk in, empty tables not bussed, cleaning carts, bus trays, and miscellaneous items stashed in corners and along dining area . Drop a wall or curtain along that back wall and hide that crap. With only 3 tables of patrons, staff and kitchen should have done better. My recommendation is order Take Out but order an hour before you plan to eat. read more

Ohhhh nooo... The original owners are no longer there which is fine as I know they had been there for a long time but the saddest part is that the egg roll recipe didn't stay. So sad because I used to brag about this place having the best egg rolls in town and I would love bringing friends or coworkers for their first time to see their reactions on how good the egg rolls were. There were several birthday parties where we would call and literally order 100 egg rolls for the party. All that is gone and only in our tastebud memories. The new owners really need to consider paying them for the egg roll recipe because otherwise there's really no reason to go back for me. Super sad about this. Super sad. I have been going to Jade Palace since 1978, when they first opened, and have enjoyed many wonderful meals with family and friends over the past many years. It's sad that our family tradition of meeting up at Jade Palace for family/friend get-togethers as well as just enjoying a meal out here from time to time has come to an end. Sadly the food is not the same as when the previous owners ran it; the food now is not worth the travel time nor the prices charged. It is very disappointing. The service is great but the food is just not good there anymore. The ribs aren't the same and the sauce on the ribs is different; not the same wonderful sauce it used to be, plus they are dry and tough. The pressed chicken gravy is not even close to the way it used to taste and the chicken is tough. The won ton soup is different, the fried rice not good anymore...everything taste different and lacks the wonderful flavors that they used to have for so very many years. Sadly I say "good-bye" and will cherish the memories of the great food and great times shared there from past years. read more

We haven't been here for 2 years being from out of town. Just got back to Houston and had to visit one of our old favorites. Read the reviews and was a little concerned with the negative reviews. We loved the old owners and due to our local friends being with us each time, we got to know them pretty well and enjoyed their food. After a fabulous meal tonight, all my concerns were for not. Greeted by a fabulous staff, a pleasant young man waited on us and met all our needs and requests. We had the egg rolls, spare ribs, egg foo young and pressed chicken. With only some very minor differences from the old menu, it all tasted exactly the same, "delicious". Absolutely the best egg foo young anywhere, as their gravy is second to none. We can't wait to get back to town next month to come back again. We met the new owners who are dedicated to carrying on the past traditions, she's off to a great start. read more

This place has been around for some time, so I don't expect new interior, but I am glad their delicious food has not changed over the last 43 years. We've been going to Jade Palace since 1978 so my review is based on comparison. We went for lunch on a Thursday around 11:30. It is quite obvious that the much loved restaurant is under new ownership. Upon asking, I was told it is the same family, but a different generation. It was really strange not to be recognized, asked about my daughter and family, and to have my tea brought to me before ordering. It never mattered how long the time was between visits, they always remembered my order. The customer service sucked. The waitstaff is obviously new. There was someone sleeping head down on a table in the dining room. The special wonton soup was more vegetables than wonton and the wontons were falling apart. The soup arrived before the entre. The egg rolls and entres were put on the table without plates. We had to ask for plates both times. Overall, the food was good, but different than the old guard. It tasted fresher, but again, we were there early. The dining room seemed cleaner, but there were a couple Nats flying around. I'm not sure we will be back. Nostalgia alone will prevent that. read more

Ive been eating here over 40 years. The recent reopening is disappointing with new wait staff. The waitress lacked little knowledge of the menu, service was extremely slow to the point we almost left. They removed the Cantonese style noodle dish though still on the menu. The wonton soup no longer includes sliced pork and literally had no flavor. The crispy noodles were replaced by a different type served stale. The fried dumplings were served with no sauce, waitress was unaware of any sauce. BBQ ribs ordered never showed up after more than 30 minutes to which we eventually cancelled. order. Jade palace has always been a favorite up until now, it appears the new owners/generation that took over have destroyed their legacy. Other tables we overheard were complaining. At first I had my doubts about this place, but they were instantly blown away by the absolutely incredible food and atmosphere. I came here for my second cousin's 29th birthday (happy birthday Patricia!!!!) and everything was just perfect. The food, although a bit pricy, was more than worth it. The service was more than welcoming as the young man who took care of us was kind and charming and made sure we had a great time. I believe his name was Erin or Eric. He was just delightful! I always get the egg rolls & chicken fried rice. It's the best. That's why I come. Reason for 4 stars, is it seems service has changed, cashier is very short & uninviting. I placed a pickup order and wasn't given a time or total for pickup. Granted I've had pickup here before & was given better service. Upon arrival, cashier seemed bothered already. She asked what I had & I confirmed. Paid & left. Aside from that, I do recommend the two options I mentioned, maybe get it for pickup because who knows how dinning in service will be. I grew up nearby in Crosby and would come here back in the 80's and 90's because it was absolutely the best Chinese cuisine you could find in the area. Recently, in 2023, I brought my wife who is not from the area (out-of-state) and we tried the pressed chicken, Cantonese style chow mien, the house special wonton soup, and the huge egg rolls; it was absolutely amazing. Granted, the establishment is older as is everything in that area, but it was clean and the people were very kind and helpful. The food was great, my wife raved about the pressed chicken. You can paint it and remodel all you want, but when you change a staple of half a century or more with the menu you might as well shut the doors. I'd highly suggest you reach out to Kenneth who created the menu and honored the consistency and resurrect exactly how it was done. The egg roll wrapped is not the same at all, this new thing has a thick and tough wrapper with just cabbage! Fried rice is just brown rice; No sprouts, no fried egg and no pork! Fried rice in a bowl? No sliced carrots, bell.pepper or pineapple on sweet & sour dishes and no sauce on top? Either take good notes on WHY this place mattered so much or close the doors.
