I have been going to this place for a couple years now. The ambiance inside is always super cozy and it's decorated well. Service is always prompt and kind, and the food is soooo good. It's relatively cheap compared to a lot of food places and as a broke college student that's great for me. I went here with two other friends one time and we all got appetizers and meals and the total was around 40 bucks. For dinner in Houston, that's great. It's a very cute and affordable place. Tai Li relocated and combined restaurants with Fujiya. Lai Lu is basically a Chinese restaurant with hot and sour chicken, egg foo yung, etc. Fujiya is a Japanese restaurant with sushi, etc. Now here when it gets interesting. The menu is not a cushion of the two cultures. Their menus are separate and pretty much the same as when they weren't co-housed. Tai Li food remains delicious. It's certainly busier now and something the Fujiya wait staff is not as familiar with some of off menu foods that Tai li has offered for years. Over the "fusion" works. read more

Stopped in for dinner and had such a wonderful experience! We were warmly greeted and seated right away. We started with the steamed dumplings, which were absolutely delicious. Ordered on Uber Eats. The crispy honey chicken had a very strong fishy flavor and smell. I Could not eat it. Threw the entire meal away. I'm staying at a hotel and ordered a few meals to last a few days and by the time I tried the crispy chicken, it was outside the return window. Also, the meals are too expensive to not include pork fried rice or crispy noodles. I even paid extra for fried rice and requested in the notes for pork fried rice but did not receive it. The fried rice was tasteless and had a nothing in it but a couple peas and a couple pieces of carrot. The cashew chicken was okay. The wonton soup and edamame was good. read more

Tai li is an interesting restaurant with both Chinese and Japanese menu. The Japanese food seems pretty good and a decent deal. The sushi is two rolls for 10 dollars which is pretty cheap. I ordered the unagi don which was just eel on sushi rice. It was pretty good and I'd get it again. Service was excellent and the waitstaff spoke Chinese with my grandfather to ensure that he was able to order something that he liked. My grandfather seemed satisfied with his meal and really liked how our waitress made sure we were happy. Our drinks were refilled often and our food came out rapidly, though not all at the same time. read more

Ordered the general tsos off the lunch menu today and it was so delicious!! Such a great lunch menu, the entree came with rice, an egg roll and choice of a soup for only like $9!! I see quite a few old reviews that note bad service and off flavored food. Those seem very odd considering the experiences my wife and I have had at the new(er) location. They've merged the Tai Li from the south side of 1960 with the Fujiya ( I think that's what it was called) on the North side of 1960 with the combined restaurant called Tai Li on the north side of 1960. We've been several times and ordered the fried dumplings each time.....hot, crispy and fresh. We also get an order of egg rolls but not much to say here....they're traditional fried egg rolls. They're hot and crispy and what you would expect with respect to the flavor. For main courses, we've ordered the curry noodles, salt baked shrimp with garlic sauce, sesame chicken, mabo tofu, and Sichuan beef. All dishes have been outstanding and extremely fresh. I eat shrimp just about every time I go out and can tell when it is not fresh or has been soaked in some odd brine mixture. The restaurant is clean and we've always had good service. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. My wife is asian so I've been to a LOT of asian restaurants in Houston. Asians, no offense intended, seem to yell at one another (and maybe others) by American standards....something about the tonal nature of the language. We haven't had any of the sushi because, frankly, I have yet to find any sushi that actually has a flavor unless you load it with ginger and radish paste. Great selection of cold beers and wine as well and the price is right. There are a lot of to go orders headed out the door when we've been there. I also noted everyone that comes in is a regular and they know the names of the wait staff. That's a good sign in my opinion. read more

Ordered a few meals on their website and picked them up. When we received our credit card bill there is a charge for our order and then on the same day a charge for about $10 more than our order. They both said Tai Li but showed up differently on the credit card bill. We tried contacting the restaurant numerous times and never got anywhere, we'd always get a response that the manager is busy, the manager is not here. When the manager finally called back she claimed she'll investigate this issue. A few weeks went by and no response. We gave up with this fraud that's occurring here and filed a dispute with our credit card company to get the fraudulent charge removed. I would highly advise against ordering from here. read more

Our family ordered takeout and we're not disappointed. I had the beef lo mein with fried rice. My only complaint was the rice was a bit dry but still had a good taste. My husband and boys had the sweet and sour chicken. They had no complaints. The staff were friendly and helpful. Don't judge the prices you see, the amount of food you get is well worth it. Food amazing. I did not have high hopes coming here but i was craving egg drop soup and it did not disappoint. I also ordered egg rolls, shrimp lo mein and shrimp fried rice. It was all amazing. Their lo mein has a different flavor then what you expect (sweet) it actually has garlic in it, you can smell but the taste is not over bearing, all the flavors are balanced. I loved it. Great Atmosphere and Delicious Food. However the reason for my 2 stars is that my husband ordered his food and instead of getting the steam rice he asked for the fried rice instead. At the end of our meal the bill came and there was an extra charge of $1.50 for the fried rice. No where in the menu did it state that there would be an additional charge for fried rice. When I brought this to the attention of the cashier he just said it's always been that way. Hence Beware of any bogus additional costs.
