    Hot n sour soup

I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in the area that has all the traditional favorites; this was one of the suggested places. Upon arrival one of the owners/managers addressed me with "yes ma'am," as to insinuate what I needed or why I was here. I was little off put by this as I would think it was obvious as to why we were here. I didn't respond but my husband made it clear that we're dining in for 4, including a baby. We sat down, he took our drinks and gave us our menus. I had to ask for a high chair as he did not offer one like most places. The drinks came out fast, and the sweet tea was pretty good. Later he took our orders: we got the kung po chicken, the sweet and sour shrimp, and the amazing shrimp. I got the dinner portion which comes with an egg roll and soup. There are 3 or 4 different size choices, but the waiter/owner/manager spoke so fast we could not get a clear understanding of the difference in size. Initially, one of the orders were brought out and it was the wrong item. Instead of a sweet and sour shrimp they brought out a sweet and sour chicken. They had to take that one back. My husband liked his amazing shrimp, as it seems like they use a house sauce for that one; it has a sweetish taste without being fried. My shrimp fried rice was a little off - putting. It had a grilled slightly burnt taste to it - not the garlicky buttery taste I'm use to. The sauce from the kung po shrimp made it more appetizing. The chicken itself was not bad, but some parts were a bit dried out. Overall, not impressed but the lady who served our food was really nice and was more welcoming than the other owner who greeted us. I may give this place another try to see if it was a whim or not.

I'm quite sure it wasn't chicken! Whatever it was the meat was sooooo tough I almost cracked my veneer!!!! Flavor was good but the meat is too hard! Had the owner over talk me saying NOONE has complain about that dish in 14 years and that everyone likes their meat fried hard like that. It's a no for me their shrimp fried rice is good, chicken wings HORRIBLE!

My wife and I had gone a long while not visiting this "hole in wall" Mom and Pop Chinese Restaurant. We have visited twice in the last three weeks. The restaurant is very clean and either Mom or Pop will take your order. Everyone is polite and attentive to your needs, checking on your table regularly. The first visit I tried a new dish for me, the Lo Mein Special with large noodle. It was so well prepared and delicious, I ordered the same on our most recent visit. My wife had the chicken fried rice on the first visit and thought it was some of the best she has ever had. On our recent visit she ordered her favorite Chinese dish, Mongolian Beef and was very impressed saying it was very flavorful and also some of the best she's ever had. Make sure to try the Won Ton soup, it is the BEST. I believe our first visit was on a Friday late afternoon and at about 4:30 they began to get busy with takeout orders.

This is our go to place for good Chinese food. The sweet and sour chicken, black pepper chicken and Mongolian beef are our favorites.

Good food. Owners are awesome. Chicken wings have excellent flavor. Singapore noodles are the right kind of spicy.

The second time I visited, I had the Hong Shao Rou with mushrooms (Braised Pork Belly) to-go, not a huge fan of takeout and this didn't disappoint and it was good. The takeout team member was pleasant enough. They feature an open kitchen with two tops closer to the wall/glass and larger tables more toward the middle of the restaurant. Dishes I regularly ordered like Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Japanese Egg Tofu, and Honey Walnut Shrimp haven't stood out as much as of lately. Dishes like Szechuan Spicy Chicken is still one of my favorite, and Garlic Snow Pea Leaves are delicious when in season. Bamboo House still holds its place as great spot for group dining. The portion is generous, prices are fair, and overall a solid restaurant that's still worth recommending.

I was looking for not only good quality food with my favorite Chinese dishes, but good service too. I found a restaurant in Valley Ranch, but the manager is just awful. Here at JJ's Diner that is not the case. We ordered a few different things: the Mongolian beef lo mein, egg roll, wonton soup, orange chicken and hot jasmin tea. Everything was delicious - ESPECIALLY the beef lo mein. This alone made me want to be glutinous. The orange chicken was good too and surprisingly meaty. You get large chunks of chicken that's well flavored in the orange sauce and not too bready. Our server was attention and polite. The hot tea was served in a cute tea kettle and rid enough for a two or so people. I'll be glad to go back SOON.

They're spiced and delicious. I thought they'd be stale since every table literally had a bowl. But they weren't. I also loved how they brought out a bowl of hot and sour soup while looking at the menu. Really nice touch. They were out of a number of items. I saw they had green takeaway bags like Mi Mi's does but when we asked for a to go box they only brought out ordinary plastic bags. A bit disappointed there. But it's fine. The Dan Dan noodles is C3 (Spicy Noodles with Sesame Sauce Contain Peanuts /S CP). It looked so colorful online that I questioned whether it would taste any good. But it actually was quite tasty. It's served on a plate and not a bowl. The Taiwanese salt and pepper chicken D7 was pretty good as was the Crab Rangoon. $8 for 6 pieces was cheaper than MiMi and actually I like the taste better. The wonton was crunchier and not as thick as MiMi's. We also got the C2 Huainan beef noodle soup. Primarily because it was one of the few soups not labeled as spicy. It wasn't bad. We wanted to take it home and the waitress just gave us one of those takeout purse boxes. Pretty sure it would've soaked right through. So I asked and they actually do have plastic soup containers too. I really love the decor as well. It just looks like a hodgepodge of knick knacks collected including a British telephone booth of all things. My favorite are the many sakura trees.

They are not related to another similar sounding restaurant Nee Hao, over near the airport. Their layout is L shaped once inside and fairly bright compared to old school Chinese restaurants with darker floors and interiors. I felt the interior is very mixmatched with a tropical theme in one area, a replica british telephone booth in another area, a room decorated in numerous flowers, and restrooms with distressed wood looking porcelain giving off a Texas country vibe. The space does have high ceilings, which is fairly unique for a casual Chinese restaurant. The menu contains 2 parts, their standard menu and a separate single-page combo menu. Each combo which is a few dollars more than the entree and comes with iced tea, a sesame ball, a fried chicken wing, crispy spring roll, a soup and crispy wonton chips. Wow, they really include a lot for just a few dollars more. Most of the entrees are your typical Americanized Chinese dishes but a few are more authentic, like the 3 different fish filled dishes and the black pepper chicken cutlet. Their regular menu has hot pot, some Sichuan cuisine appetizers, beef noodle dishes, Taiwanese dishes, veggies, a fried section, and a fried rice and noodle section. Some of the more interesting dishes include a swan-shaped durian pastry, brown sugar sticky rice cake, and 2 different stir-fried crawfish dishes. I went with the tried and true Mongolian beef combo. This turned out to be one of the best Mongolian beef dishes I've ever had. It gets an 8 as far as presentation and is very colorful. It comes with cilantro and diced green onions, which you dont see very often on this dish. The sauce, which is normally a thick brown, is a lighter chili oil here instead and tastes like a dish you would eat at the more authentic Chinese restaurants in Bellaire area. The beef is very tender and melts in your mouth. I was unfortunately not a fan of the chicken wing or the vegetarian spring roll. Maybe it was the oil they fry them in.....not sure. Service here is pretty good as well. My iced tea was refilled a few times as needed. I will say their TV's were on the fritz during my visit amd should be checked. One had no signal and another above my table was frozen on a children's program.
