The staff were attentive and welcoming, and the atmosphere made the whole dining experience very enjoyable. Highly recommend trying the walnut shrimp--I personally suggest asking for a little extra sauce or for it to be made creamier if you prefer it less dry. Jeez I don't know where to start. I've been coming here for OVER a decade. I think the original owners (Jia Tao?) sold the restaurant to someone else. First thing I noticed when I walked in was the smell. It smelled like dirty mop water was used to clean the floors or something. It was almost unbearable but I drove 40 minutes to get my favorite food and I wasn't going to leave just because of that. The next thing that bothered me was my server. She seemed more than a little green on the job. Every question was met with a blank stare like she didn't have a clue what was going on. I believe her name was Maysa or Maggie but I'm not sure. I tried to put in an appetizer order but she shut me down and said she couldn't take my order until she got the iPad. It was two things Now for the food. I'd say maybe 50% of our food tasted fine and I mean JUST fine. This place used to be the best at everything. The rest was god awful. The hot and sour soup had no flavor. It tasted so bland. The fried rice my dinner special came with tasted old and like maybe the rice wasn't washed and was also kind of flavorless. I'm really sad to see this place fall from grace. Get some decent chefs who know what they're doing and save this restaurant! read more

If your looking for inexpensive, great porpotion size and tasty Chinese food this is a great place to come. I have tried the Chicken Lomein, Magnolia Beef and Orange chicken and have not been disappointed with those selections. The egg drop soup is good however I will definitely give the fried rice a negative its pretty much the white rice with alot of soy sauce..The service is okay they definitely need a few more people one person handles the phone orders and sits you so it was a little wait with no one really being in there. Rice is very disgusting and old egg shows as if it's been sitting Please don't order the crab Rangoon's It's more cream cheese, no crab at all., and most of all the package, everything separately. The service is horrible also the manager gets an attitude when you tell her about the horrible food and thinks it's ok to start a sentence off with first off. Service shows very argumentative. We called our order in and the lady read it back, which is always a good thing. She was very nice when I went in to pick it up. I lived in SE Asia 10 years way back when & haven't found anything in this area that even has a clue on how to make fried rice! Fried rice is not white rice with a lot of soy!! Sorry. Nor, does or should it have corn, which is what was in China Rivers. YULK!! It was sticky white rice with corn & lots of soy! Just placed an order for shrimp and vegetables. The shrimp was raw and mushy, not to mention the fried rice appeared to be thrown on the dish. I tried calling and resolving the issue and was told to wait until the manager got in; which would be 4:30p.m. No thanks !!! I'll take my business elsewhere. Decent Chinese food in the Humble area is scarce so China River was a great find. The prices are good, the portions are ample and the food is cooked to order so that means hot and fresh.... It is located in small business plaza behind Olive Garden so if you blink, you might miss the signage. I met the owner while waiting on my food and had the opportunity to ask her about her food journey. She is very humble and I appreciated her taking the time to share with me. My experience was terrible with who I'm pretty sure was the owner on August 19 at 8:50 right before closing. She was extremely aggressive and rude over to go cups of Sriracha when I had just had my birthday dinner on August 15th there and they gave us Sriracha too though. I'm not sure if she was having a bad day, but I just think it's insane that she was talking to me the way she was over 2 ounces of Sriracha makes it really hard to really wanna eat there again and spend my money. Every Chinese/Asian restaurant that I went to have no problem supplying you with Sriracha and I know for a fact that a bottle of Sriracha is not five dollars, so for you to try to charge me for 2 to 4 ounces of Sriracha five dollars is insane... and telling me to put myself in your shoes as if I don't own a business myself and have a uncle that owns a restaurant in Houston is insane what was being insinuated. read more

Place seemed cleaned and service was quick. I do not know what kind of tastebuds people have. This place is a no. I got the general tso's chicken and fried rice. The dinner special. The chicken was of decent size and white meat. It was a little dry and the sauce tasted a little watered down. The fried was a complete disappointment.....a joke. It didn't even seem like it was day old rice. No seasoning no veggies not even an onion. I saw a tiny bit of egg. The egg roll was decent and flavored. I haven't tried the egg drop soup yet. If that is bad I can at least add some seasoning and make that decent. Save your money go some place else. My search for good Chinese continues. read more

My husband and I were excited to try this place out but unfortunately we were not too fond of the food. We ordered to go and it did not take that long to be ready. I ordered beef broccoli with fried rice and my husband got the cashew chicken and the sauce tasted the same for both so that was a huge let down. I will say though the dinner price was amazing and it included an egg roll and soup. The egg roll was basic nothing too amazing about it. The outside of the restaurant does not look like much, but the inside is very mice and clean. This is a solid Asian restaurant. I liked the wonton soup and the chicken Lo Mein.
