This is a true "hole in the wall" restaurant that I found by accident while close by. It is a Chinese restaurant that also serves fried chicken. Nee Hao is located next to a gas station and parking is available in front of the restaurant but can be crowded during lunch time. Their business is split between to go orders and dine in. Nothing fancy here. I decided to try the fried chicken and ordered at the counter the 3 piece special for $8.75 that comes with ham fried rice and an egg roll. Bottled drinks are $2 extra. Pretty affordable, right? The food was delivered less than 10 minutes later to my table in a styrofoam container. After opening it there was a large amount of food in there. The chicken looked great along with the very large serving of fried rice. The chicken wasn't completely hot along with the rice. Some parts of the chicken were barely warm while others were hot. It was edible but would have been sooo much better hot. Ditto on the ham fried rice. The egg roll was hot and delicious, I would have easily given this meal a 4 if the food temp was higher along with the fantastic value of the meal. It was super busy. When I walked in, I was not immediately acknowledged, but the people who walked in behind were greeted and asked if they were picking up or ordering. They said they were placing a to go order which I was also doing. They were told to go to the next counter. So I followed suit. Food was just ok. Portion of the rice was plentiful. I ordered shrimp fried rice with an upcharge. I literally had 4 shrimp (yes I counted because it was a lot of rice and I did not see the shrimp initially). My chicken wings were not as seasoned as I would have liked. Hot sauce did not help. The restaurant is like a "hole in the wall." New Hao. How are you? This mom and pop spot been around for over 20 years. It was my spot in the 20s with "momma" always yelling at us. It's Chinese American, basic, no frills food that will soothe all your cravings. They be busy. All the time. There is pick up (if you can get through on the phone), dine in and drive thru. Had not been in a long time but stopped by Saturday on the way home from Spring. Did the drive thru for the first time and ordered a large shrimp fried rice and a couple of orders of their fried vegetable spring rolls or so I thought. Misunderstanding left me with vegetable egg rolls which are not the same. The fried vegetable spring rolls are mini size (2 for $1). I also ordered a large wonton soup. I still had to wait 20 min so they had me pull into the front. The food: shrimp fried rice filled to the brim of the box. Shrimp count was less than before but still delicious. The egg rolls were better than expected esp with their red sweet and sour sauce. The win tonight soup was filled with Chinese veggies, char siu (Chinese bbq pork) and wontons. There isn't a lot of filling per se but still very yummy. Their menu looked the same. Combos etc. I forgot to ask for their chili sauce which was like crack. Addictive. Same owners. Cantonese. Nice people. Food came out piping hot. I live in the city so was about a 20 minute drive home and the soup was hot enough to burn my tongue. Def will stop again next time I'm in the hood. Maybe it used to be at some point, but that's clearly no longer the case. It doesn't taste Chinese at all; it's just a lot of fried, greasy food trying to pass as flavor. The quality, freshness, and actual taste were missing in everything I tried. The service is very good, all items are individually prepared, so there usually a short wait depending on the items and the busiest times. On 5/7/2026 I ordered the General's Chicken (their name for General Tso's Chicken). There was a very large amount of chicken and rice in the container. There is definitely two meals worth of portions in the container. When I arrived home there was steam still rising from the food. The chicken was fresh and moist but there were only to or three drops of sauce in the bottom of the container. I had high hopes for the chicken but unfortunately, it was very bland with a bitter after taste. I have had MUCH better and very few worse than this in my 15-20 different visits at other Asian restaurants. The fried rice had an unusual taste. I think people are giving the restaurant very high reviews based upon portion size vs flavor. Was the food horrible or old? No. The older gentleman (that I think is the owner) was very friendly and a genuine pleasure to speak with. I used the drive thru but was sent on a quest for a parking spot at the front after placing my order. I really had high hopes for this restaurant but was disappointed. The flavor for my selection was not there. I considered going back and trying something different but since even the fried rice was disappointing, I do not think that I will be returning. Née Hao hasn't changed much since I last visited over 10 years ago and the menu is very extensive. I feel there's a lot to choose from. I ordered fried wontons, wonton soup, and chicken lo mein. There was a very generous amount of food for only $23. The food was good, I did need a bit of soy sauce and chili for my lo mein but you really can't beat the amount of food you get for the price. I will say, this isn't a place I'd recommend dining in. There's not a lot of seating and much of the restaurant has boxes stacked. I'd recommend just ordering to go. read more
