Ace Hardware has been the go to place when you need a screw. Yes that's right, even though you can get a box of screws you've probably made a trip to Ace at the spur of a moment when you're working on a project and you need one screw. You know the aisle. You know the feeling of opening those little drawers. That's Ace. You're not getting that feeling from anywhere else. However that trip came and went. Next I was on the search for some button style batteries. I was not surprised when Ace came though, again. I was especially pleasantly surprised when they had a cheat sheet of some battery sizes and what numbers to look for on the name brand packaging as some of the numbers had to be referenced against the numbers on the battery. I've been to this Ace store multiple times and I don't think I ever had a bad experience. The store is organized neatly and they had a large variety to shop from indoor to outdoor items. There is plenty of parking outside also. They have a bunch of options to shop here currently. They offer curbside pickup, delivery, in-store pick up and you can even shop off the app. Social distancing is practiced here and masks are required to enter. For my most recent visit, my husband and I stopped in here to get some wood stain for a desk. We actually didn't know which stain color we wanted yet or brand and as we were peeking around someone came over to help us. They walked us to all the different brands and explained a few differences. The gentleman helping us have us some suggestions on the best way to apply to stain, prepping and drying tips. They were helpful! We ended up buying Minwax Wood Finish Semi-Transparent Dark Walnut Oil-Based Stain, 1 qt. for $9! We were appreciative of the associate's help and the stain worked out perfect for what we needed. Overall, this is a great handy store and the associates here are friendly and knowledgeable on a variety of topics/ different projects you may be working on. Keep it up! read more

I have to give this Ace Hardware a thumbs up! I am so glad that they are still in my area and haven't succumbed like so many smaller business entities. I had to replace the cartridge in my single handle shower faucet and after 3 trips there (and so many offers of guidance) I have to say I successfully completed the job with an outlay of less than $100. I'm sure that this saved me a lot from calling out a plumber (in addition to the fact I wouldn't have been able to use my shower until someone came out)! The staff is always so kind and helpful there. I know I probably pay a bit more for the convenience of having them close to my home, but it is well worth it when you know you are going to get assistance with whatever household task you are endeavoring to fix on your own! read more

A Sunday afternoon field trip to one of my favorite places. Today's mission ~ replacing our BBQ grill (our old one had a slight mishap last week) They carry the full line of Weber grills and a few of other brands. For those of us without the assembly required gene, they do offer FREE assembly. Bill, the salesperson helping us, asked when we needed it and my "in about 2 hours, we have company coming" response almost required a call to 911. The place was very busy. So, my fully assembled grill will be delivered during the week. This is a great hardware store with very friendly employees and if they did not have what I needed on hand, they have ordered it and I have it within days. I was grateful for their curb-side pick up and experienced kind and patient employees until Debbie, a manager, caught an attitude over the phone. When I called her out on it, she said it was because of how many orders she had to do. She said all the right things after that but the aggressiveness and hanging up on me was not cool and spoke louder. Apparently, she was annoyed I called to ask if they had an item in stock. I did what the website told me to do. I would not have otherwise. I feel bad for her but to take it out on others really bothers me. I can't imagine the hell shes giving her employees and perhaps other customers. Sad when one person's bad day turns away what would have been a loyal customer. read more

She decided to look for an item to repair an artistic project that she had worked on. After repeated questions of asking if staff can help, she was accused of shop lifting. Incredibly insulted by the staff here. Was asked several times by the same staff members if I needed help and I tried to say no. I make a lot of art pieces and usually have no trouble finding what I need, and I peruse around the store looking for things for my sculptures. Apparently, a teenage girl not needing help in an ace is 'suspicious' and was cornered in the store and followed, and approached by staff saying I 'looked like I was going to steal something'. I'm sorry you don't know many 19 year old girls who know their way around metal wires and power tools, but try not to profile your customers. Thanks. read more

Not enforcing a mask policy or social distancing at all. Employees basically stated that the owner told them not to say anything to customers about wearing masks. I walked in at about 7:50 and they close at 8 during the winter, which I wasn't aware of when I walked in but it became very clear shortly after. I needed to make copies of some keys and the gentleman who does this was bringing firewood in. The very nice woman at the cashier asked him to help me and he was clearly annoyed. So she asked another coworker and he said no. They made no attempt at hiding their frustration in front of me. In a very childish manner the gentleman came back inside to help me. He loudly sighed when I asked him if he could do a car key for me as well and asked a coworker to do it for me while he went back to the firewood. During all of this I was the one apologizing over and over again for not realizing the store closed at 8 and thanking them for helping me. Once I paid $80+ for two house keys and a car key and ready to walk out the door they were very nice. They waited for me to check that the car key worked before I paid and let me back in the store. I was out of there by 8:10-8:15. I have always loved ACE and felt they were true to their slogan about being "the place with the helpful hardware folks". That is until today. read more

Went here with my dad at 8:00 pm on Wednesday, 12/17, to find out the store already closed despite signage that indicates that the hours are until 9:00 pm on weekdays. A person who presumably works there pulled up in his truck and told us that the store "closes early now." When we asked why the store is closing early, he merely responded, "That's the way it is now." Needless to say, this was not a good explanation. Another female customer stayed to ask more follow up questions, but we left to go to another neighborhood hardware store that doesn't inconvenience its customers with irregular hours. read more

I only go to Ace when I need the convenience of its proximity to my home. It is a smaller store so the selection is not great and neither are the prices. Whenever I need help, I find myself wondering where the"helpful hardware man" must be hiding. On a positive note, I've always found the cashiers to be pretty cool and helpful! read more

I was at Ace on Monday, the day of the Cyber Monday sales. Looking at snowblowers and found one we liked. I had the 15% Cyber Monday coupon to order online, but wanted to see it in person. I was going to buy it there at the time, but they told me they couldn't accept the 15% off coupon in the store. So I went home and ordered it on the Ace Hardware web site. On Monday evening I received an Email confirming they received my order and to wait for a followup email to confirm pickup date. On Tuesday I received an Email saying they were cancelling my order because the store didn't have anymore in stock. To quote the 2 sentence email... "they sincerely apologized for any inconvenience this may have caused me" On Thursday, I contacted customer service to see if I could place the order (with coupon) at another Ace. They said there is stock of these blowers at other Naperville stores, but could not approve me using the 15% 'Ace Rewards' coupon. This is a $699 unit. While I could purchase it from Home Depot or pay full price at Ace, I decided to order it from Snowblowersdirect.com. Free shipping and no tax would be charged to me. So at least I can save myself $50 in tax and have it delivered to the people who are going to receive it as a present in Wisconsin. It will save me a long trip! Ace should have honored the coupon. It still would have been a $639 sale (tax included) They have now lost me as a long time customer... read more

There flyer from 11-26-14 to 11-30-14 offered a flashlight for $14.99. I had a 50% off coupon from the flyer but they wouldn't honor it because they said it was on sale. Nothing in the flyer regarding the flashlight stated it was on sale. Douglas Ace wouldn't do anything to accommodate me saying it was a decision by corporate. I won't shop there again. read more

The store's for sale signs are messed up all the time. Products are placed under the wrong signs and they don't honor the discount per the sign. I spent 10 minutes to bring this to their attention. First, the cashier told me that the price for the 1Ga Ortho Home Defense Insect killer is $8.99 under the discount tag, I brought it to their attention that this product is the same under another tag of $15.99. After 5 minutes back and forth with another store employee, the manager was called. The manager told me that this product was placed under the wrong tag. I told him that this same mistake was made last time I was in the store a few days ago. It looks like the store is badly managed and signs are placed wrong quite often and they don't honor the price per the sign. After spending 10 minutes correcting their mistake, they told me they won't honor the $8.99 for the product under the sign. I have bad feeling for this store. read more
