Ace's paint department alone is reason enough for me to repeatedly come back. I paint. A lot. I've never lived with the same colors for more than 3 years. To me that would be like wearing the exact same style every season. I used to go to paint stores or superstores to get my paint. I would have to stand in long lines, waiting my turn with contractors and painters. Then I discovered that I could purchase Benjamin Moore paint right here. I've never had to wait. I'm out the door in just a matter of minutes. No more trekking clear out to Rt 59 or waiting in line behind pros who are there to pick up their 20 gallons of paint. I've never even waited in line at all here. But paint aside, 1) They always have what I need, whether it's soil, plants, pots, parts, rakes or picture wire. 2) The store is very convenient to shop since it isn't a mega store. --I don't walk by isles and isles of lumber, carpet, bathtubs and bidets just to buy a screw driver. 3) Excellent customer service. I don't think I've ever been in there for more than a minute before someone asked me if I need help with anything. This Ace Hardware feels very "small town" in the sense that they still maintain a friendliness and act as though they know you personally. Something that just isn't seen often anymore. read more

Great convenience to have this store in North Naperville. Love to be able to run here to for plumbing and electrical to make repairs. They usually have what I need in stock. It's a little different now that it's under new management but the staff is easier to find help if you need it. read more

I've lived near this store for 30 years and have seen it get worse and worse, especially with Westlake taking it over and applying its management style: it's variety of stock diminish, the quality of stock diminish, the sales ppl get replaced by less expensive ppl without knowledge and the desire to help, and now customer service. Went to get a battery in my key fob as I have done frequently. They sent me to the Help desk and a gentleman named Mike helped me. He was very rude. Said he couldn't open my fob for me. I said I always go to Ace and there has never been a problem. He then proceeds to open it up take out the battery and slam it into the garbage, tells me I am going to cause him to go to jail because of opening my fob, puts in the battery and practically through the keys at me. It took him 30 seconds to do for all the drama. I will never go to that Ace again. read more

I like Ace because it's a more manageable size than Home Depot, Lowe's, Menard's etc. However, I don't recommend getting keys made here. I had a key duplicated here, took it home and it wouldn't open the door. So went to another Ace nearby to have them try again. Again, it wouldn't work. Gave up and had one made at the self serve kiosk at Home Depot: no problem with that one. read more

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't get the man's name but he's an older gentleman who helped me find a fix for the top handle of my mother-in-laws crockpot that she accidentally melted. I was so happy to have found someone right away who could help me. He quickly grabbed a handle option and even recommended another store, an appliance store, that might have the exact handle. This store has the worst manager ever!!! Total disgrace. On 11/17/2020 I purchased a Stihl 271 chainsaw for $409 plus tax, along with accessories from the store in Naperville IL. #128 at 963 W 75 st. After registering and ready to check out I noticed that there was already fuel and chain lube in it. It was obviously new other than that. The very nice salesman stated that it is fairly common for people to return them and he also inspected it and said that it was new. He assured me that if there was an issue that I could exchange/return. After dinner I went to start it up. Changed the fuel in it just to be safe. It started easily, and immediately starting smoking badly....a nasty smelling thick white smoke made me open my garage doors it is so thick. Obviously why the last people returned it. Its almost 7PM and I need this taken care of tonight, so I call on the way back to the original store and am told that there is a store at 1030 N Washington St in Naperville that has 2 in stock, and that I can exchange it there. Of course, I have my receipt with me. Both stores are owned by the same owner, so this should not be an issue I assume, especially since I was told to do this. They called the other store in advance for me also, so they knew exactly what was happening. I get to the Washington St. store, and the manager could not care less about me or my situation. It is crystal clear that she worries more about her store numbers than anything resembling customer service. She refuses to do anything for me, even though she has spoken to the 1st store and everything was verified. So I drive back to the 75 st. store, where they apologized profusely and offered a refund so that I could go back to the Washington store and buy it there, since they have 2 on the shelf. I am not happy about going back to the Washington store, not even a little, but I'm on a time crunch and need this resolved now, so off I go. The kind gentlemen at 75th st call the lady at Washington, tell her that I will be there right about 8PM and to please have it on the counter so that I can pay and everyone can go home. I even have exact change now!!! So I arrive back at the Washington St. store at either 7:59PM or 8PM depending on which clock I'm looking at, and not only did she not bother to keep her store open until 8PM, the lights were off, the registers all closed and no one in sight. She closed her store much earlier than 8PM, even knowing that a customer was driving in circles, and on the way back to spend $409 plus tax. Even though the sale went poorly, the gentlemen at Washington store were professional, and handled it the best they could. If there had been another unit on the shelf, I would be set now. BUT the lady manager at the Washington St store was rude, lazy and is the sole reason that I just ordered a new chainsaw from Farm & Fleet, and will drive another 20 minutes each way tomorrow to go pick it up there. read more

We have been long term customers of this Ace hardware even recommended this store to others .. well no more . We ordered two items for pickup . 4.5 hours later we call and are told well it will be tomorrow . My husband was told by the supervisor that she had filled all orders but 2,, never asked his name, never said anything but we are so busy blah blah and made it sound like she could get it but it would be such an onerous task . No courtesy no caring or apology nothing .. she could have cared less about our business , well Kay there are other stores .. helpful hardware folks ha! read more

If you are a fan of personal care this spot is for you.....YES you WILL pay MORE for anything in the store, but it is worth it for the service you receive. Whether its building a Pinewood Derby car, trouble with a switch, a door knob that just isn't right, or a fungus in the yard you will get the RIGHT answer EVERY time. I walked in today with a cracked storm window from our bathroom. I headed back to the service counter, which was not being manned. I saw a bicycle squeeze bulb horn mounted to the counter. I tried the horn several times, but it just kind of squawked. After a bit a man showed up, and said he would be with me shortly. When he finished up on the phone, he inspected the aluminum frame of my 1954 circa window at length, then he began telling me he thought they would not be able to repair it...even though he himself is not the glass repair man they employ. I don't care for someone tying me up, just looking things over, and telling me what they can't do. What happened to the service industry, and the policy of the customer is always right? Where has the Can-Do attitude gone. I expect a clerk to take the product, with my contact information, then explain that the repair person will be in later that week...and if there are any problems, they will contact me. We have had these windows repaired here before. I may have to try a different hardware store now. read more

I must admit Home Depot gets most of my business but this location is my favorite of all the area Buikema's. Something about the lay out of this store and the yard, works for me. Usually I can find someone eager to help out too. They'll do price matching on same items and have a rewards program too. This store got a lot more of my business when I was in Lisle. I'll drive a little farther when I need that certain Ace charm. There certainly are some items I'd rather get here, than at Home Depot. Spend some time parading down the isles, you'll find the parts you need to fix those projects you've been putting off and not be too overwhelmed as in Home Depot. read more

Sadly I was in this store on 75th street for the last time today. After being a customer for 9 years I was treated like a nuisance because I asked to speak to a manager after being told twice over that my screen that had been in their shop was fixed only to find out that the wheels which I had asked to have replaced were not. The fact that the work wasn't done was hardly the issue, I just wanted it done and thought that a manager should know so that there would be no further issues. Well, this lady was not afraid to let me know that I had disturbed her almighty dinner. A manager, after a couple of young men had already apologized to me and were being as helpful as they were empowered to be, had to let me know that I was in fact the nuisance. It looks like I am off to become just a number, not a customer and part of the neighborhood, at Home Depot. read more

This is the one I would go to. I've bought lots of paint here...LOTS. And the several gentlemen that have helped me have been nothing but...well, helpful. The people here actually seem to know what they're doing, in marked contrast to the Ace Hardware on New York St. I've complained about in a previous review. The store is cleaner, brighter, more organized, with a better selection of nearly everything, it seems...just all around better. I guess it could be out of your way, but if it's around the same distance, this is just more satisfying to shop at. read more

This place has a mishmash of everything you need from a hardware store, lots of things you probably don't, and everything in between. It's got a very small town "general store" feel for being on the cusp of downtown Naperville, and has the messy feel of your grandmother's attic - it's kind of cute, and you can pretty much find everything. I run an Airbnb and was dealing with a crisis with the Schlage keyless entry entry door lock for my property. Long story short, hundreds of dollars depended on a 13 cent screw that was stripped, and therefore not allowing my tenants to enter the property. The gentleman at Ace Hardware quickly helped me determine the type of screw I needed, measured and located it to perfection in the aisle full of nuts and bolts. I dropped off two window screens to be repaired on March 7th was told it would be two weeks to get them back and of course the state lockdown happened a week after that so then i was told that they had no idea when they would be done due to the only guy they have to repair the screens was elderly and would not return to work until the lockdown was over. Fast forward to July, lockdown is over and despite me having a ticket receipt of when i dropped them off and going in the store to show them the receipt they have no idea where my screens are and as far as i can tell have given up looking for them so most likely they gave them to someone else and i am out two window screens. Do yourself a favor and don't leave your window screens here. read more

Most of the time we can find what we are looking for. It's not always the cheapest place but their products are generally good value. This Biikema's Ace seems a little better than the other locations in terms of service and knowledge. Parking is tight sometimes, especially when they have their garden items setup outside. I'm not sure what would constitute 5 stars for a retail hardware store. I feel like there's still some room for improvement. Once I came here looking for something, yes I was misinformed about what I was looking for so I didn't give an accurate description for what I needed but I think the right person could have helped me realize this mistake. Instead I had to go to Menards to find out that they were all out of the item and I called Ace back while on my way back to ask and they did have the item the whole time. So, all in all, surprised that I got more info from Menards, considering they are never the most technical people on giving advice on their products. (Compared to Lowes or Home Depot at least). read more

Very rarely I write reviews. I am boiling inside and need to get this thing out. I was at he Ace hardware on Washington Street, Naperville. Bought seeds for my lawn and had only a $100 bill to pay with. The clerk at the checkout (Nathan) put the bill in his UV scanner and could not get it to work. He called the store manager (Jerry). Jerry walked between the two checkout aisles (did not see me), took the bill after Nathan explained, checked the bill and asked Nathan to take it. 2 seconds later, he saw me (for the first time) and immediately said, "I cannot take it" What changed his decision in 2 seconds? My color? My ethnicity? I don't know. I felt very low and has never felt like this before. I will never visit any Ace again in my life time. read more

I frequently stop here because I know I will get good service and the store is efficiently organized. I can park right in front, get in and get out without wasting time, although I do walk the aisles occasionally to discover things I didn't know I needed. I get Benjamin Moore paint, painting supplies, screws, gardening supplies, mulch, light bulbs, cleaning tools, grass seed, trash bins, keys, and on and on. It surprises and pleases me how often I find what I need here and can avoid the football-field sized big box home stores. The crew is terrific. Someone always stops to offer to help and since I often have a problem to be solved their expert help is much appreciated. It's also good that they take fluorescent bulbs to be recycled. We get our gas grill canisters filled here too. Hours and location are very convenient. read more
