We had a so-so experience working with Sterling on a new solid surface double vanity top for our…read morebathroom. The showroom offered an array of setups and samples to choose from, and we had a shorter turnaround on the completion and delivery of our top than anticipated. Things started heading south once we opened up the top and prepped it for install. Despite allowing the top to lay flat for a week to settle, it showed a significant bow on the underside of the middle of the top, a very noticeable warp that could be seen in the backsplash and along the front edge of the counter. We had it installed to see if allowing it to settle further would help, but nothing changed. We then spent several weeks going back and forth with Sterling (and their parent company Americraft) who insisted that the issue must be with the cabinet (which was level) or the wall (which was square). They agreed to make it right with a new top, but initially refused to help cover the install fee which originally cost us $800. Once we agreed they wouldn't have considered replacement without knowing we tried to install it in the first place, they said they would send someone out to install as well. Sterling outsources the manufacture of their tops to Carstin Kitchen & Bath in Arthur, IL and they clearly have an issue with their molds. Even the Americraft installers were taken aback by the noticeable bow in our original top and noticed a minor bowing in the second replacement top. In the end, we got a top that sits level and looks nice in our bathroom, but it was an unnecessarily exhaustive process to get there. I wouldn't recommend working with Sterling unless they commit to working with a different manufacturer.

Once again I returned to Best Buy/ Pacific Kitchen and Bath to price shop. I have purchased several…read moreitems from Pacific because of the sales team I have encountered in the past. There is so much new information today and comparison shopping is a nightmare. My regular sales person was off today and I was greeted by Mildred and pleasantly offered assistance. I was looking for ovens and she was a wealth of information. I had no intention to purchase just select the brand I needed. We started at very high end Viking at my request and worked down looking at many many ovens. This is an exhausting experience. Mildred could answer every question and even redirect me to brands that fit my cooking needs. Design and function over price was my need. Plastic knobs, not enough BTU's, poorly designed burners were some concerns. Mildred narrowed down my selection and next we pulled up the ovens on line and compared the advantages of each oven. THIS was superb all pricing, design, elements and options were printed out. Samsung has a very cleaver new oven with a single door that can actually break into a two piece door. The center burner is very inefficient for my use in the cooking process. Mildred was extremely helpful with high power BTU's, higher quality burners, design elements and oven features. A perfect oven was decided upon after looking at so many choices. A sale was made. I would have wasted a lot of time and even though I had researched ovens when I arrived today. Thank you. I would have never had the information Mildred presented. Very professional and knowledgeable. As I mentioned I had no intention to purchase. I have never had a rude sales person. Actually been rather surprised about the amount of product knowledge in this quickly changing industry the staff presents. I have had delivery issues and a small dent in the past and it was taken care of immediately.

The Kitchen Studio popped up in my google search as being a local dealer of the specific higher end material I wanted. Upon arrival, an employee told me "they don't do just countertops". Okay. That isn't clear on their website. Then she went on to tell me she can't think of anywhere in the area to refer me that "just does counters". First, of all, there are at least 10 countertop fabricators within a 10 mile radius of Glen Ellyn. Someone in the industry should know this. Second, I'm sure the Kitchen Studio has an in house fabricator or they subcontract it out to someone local (most likely) and thus, why on earth would you not give this person my business??? I have a fairly large kitchen and master vanity. My quotes from the other local fabricators, who do, in fact, exist, are coming in at $120/sq foot and up. I'm giving 2 stars instead of one because all their kitchens on houzz are truly lovely and I'm sure if you hire them they would design a beautiful kitchen.

However when cost estimates were developed for contract signing for the project implementation phase, her personal fees were 3 times of what they should have been per our retainer agreement. When I pointed out the retainer terms, instead of correcting, they sent me a new retainer document and told me their process has changed. The change is permanent and sometimes there is a little fallout like this. These were Susan's words in her email to me. I took them to court ( case#2019SR000483 in Dupage county) to get my money back which I did. Susan herself is talented and personable but her business partner and company co-owner's dealings are disappointing and ignorant of basic business ethics. Susan kept saying he handles all money and pricing aspects. I had to walk away! Update 1/10/2020: I stand by my comments and the fact that you completely disavowed the terms of retainer and when I pointed out the pricing terms that we agreed to In the retainer, you emailed me a new retainer document with all pricing terms removed from it. I would have never signed anything or paid you $7k based on that new retainer devoid of any specifics. This was an act of complete lack of integrity. If you are serious about building reputation, practicing integrity will help. Good luck

After spending…read moreover $400 on an olive tree, soil, and planter, I discovered an infestation that began shortly after purchase. When I went back to the store for help, they were completely unhelpful and unwilling to offer a refund or even store credit. Instead, they tried to sell me a $10 bottle of soap that they admitted may or may not work. Beyond that, there was no real guidance, advice, or effort to help resolve the issue. For a specialty nursery with premium pricing, I expected far more expertise and customer care. I strongly believe in supporting small businesses over big box stores, but this place was a complete disappointment. Between the high prices and lack of support, the value just isn't there. I will be finding a new nursery in the spring and highly recommend others look elsewhere as well. If you're looking for quality plants, knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices, and customer care, Wannamaker's is not it.

At every interaction, we've *never* had a bad or unpleasant experience there. I read with dismay the several posts here that recount other's experiences. Not having been there with those other Commentors, I certainly can't / won't comment on what they experienced. But I do note a common denominator, folks: many of these tales include, in some way, aspects of "Caveat Emptor". Wannamaker's is a large-ish store, and from shopping there a lot, I note that many Shoppers go there as almost a "field trip" - e.g. not often, and they probably are caught-up in the joy of a store that has literally *Everything* you might want, garden-related. Thus, I posit, they overbuy, and let their Spidey senses down. Perhaps by not counting the number of shoots in a flat, or expecting (and perhaps not documenting) their plantings against a possible future Health claim. As a Disinterested Observer, the store is consistently pretty busy, with complex sales, and have NEVER been staffed to support an Investigative Staff to assist their Customers. These are, really, basic Customer Skills you need to possess (or groom!), ESPECIALLY when living under the fat greasy thumb of His Puissant Orangeness and his Clown Show administration. Trust but Verify. Consider the flip-side here, though: Wannamaker's is a Specialty Store. Sure, they command higher pricing than Wal Mart, because everyone in there is a Professional in their field. They've seen it and done it and planted it. And, regarding Product, if you want it, they probably have it, or can order it for you. I cannot recall in the past decade ever being at Wannamaker's and leaving without what I came for. To me, that justifies the pricing delta. I convey my displeasure by withholding one Star. An Educated Consumer is their Target Customer. After the Sale, it's your Documentation that counts, and - quite possibly - your attitude when seeking whatever restitution your situation demands. Again, I'm not throwing-down at the several posters here who have had negative experiences. I wasn't with you, and I don't know. I'm sorry for your poor experience. But I've never had a bad experience at Wannamaker's, and I always try to support my local brick and mortar businesses!
