There is absolutely zero service at this location. Came to return the item. I thought it will take 5 to 10 minutes most. The lady at the front register said you have to go to the back at the back. I have been ignored by two people telling me that I have to wait for them. I waited about 20 minutes and I decided to leave. Why would you have a store when you ignore your customers. I really wanted this to be a good experience, because usually the service at these hardware stores is great, but this time it wasn't. I brought in a snow thrower, lawn mower (it ran fine but just needed the self-propel serviced), and power washer for repair. They informed me that they charged a $35 diagnostic fee per machine, which is fine. But they didn't inform me that if I didn't proceed with a full repair that they would not reassemble the machines. They couldn't repair the lawnmower, and the snow thrower was going to cost well over what it was worth. I'm pretty sure they burnt out the electric starter on the snow thrower, because that was working fine before I brought it in. So I opted not to move forward with the snow thrower repair. When I went to pick up my machines, they were in pieces. So now I have to figure out how to reassemble my lawnmower to use it again. Had I taken the machines apart, I would have kept track how they came apart so I could figure out how to get them back together, but now I have to figure it out on my own, without knowing how they came apart or what screws go where. They also lost one of the nozzles to my power washer and didn't even offer to replace it. read more

Yep, I think this is one of THOSE stores. You know, the kind where it's fine if you're a guy, but if you're a woman you couldn't possibly know how to do anything. I'm not one of those clueless chicks where the only painting or filing I can do is of my nails, so I didn't appreciate their bullshit. I went in looking for something for a small electrical project I wanted to do (putting a lamp socket on a longer cord for a hanging lamp). I explained clearly what I needed, I had the old cord with me and was just looking for a new socket. I ended up getting passed off to someone else who tried to sell me exactly what I had in my hand. When I told him the cord was too short and reexplained that I wanted the socket, he told me I could just use an extension cord. No shit Sherlock, I can use an extension cord?! I'm not so stupid that I couldn't figure that out myself, I didn't want to use an extension cord. They told me what I want didn't exist. I left this store and went to another True Value (in Brookfield - a much better store which seems to be run by 2 women, I'll have you know). While that store didn't have it either, they at least directed me to a nearby electrical supply store that did have it. read more

I come here far too often, but as a DIY girl I find their selection and service extremely helpful. You will receive better and more informed information from these employees than you would at a Home Depot or Menards. Each staff has a particular area that they are familiar with so you don't have to worry about them not knowing their stuff. There is one employee who isn't too female friendly, but you can spot him a mile away. If you're worried, find one of the female employees (as one is part owner, I believe). They won't make you feel stupid, and they will give you more information than you thought you needed. However, if you don't know what questions to ask, they will give you all that information so your project can go off without a hitch. I have also gone in because the guys who work in the back where you get your keys made can provide you with go to people for any service you need done. Trust me, this is the place to go especially if you are new to the area. read more

I have been going here since the 50's when it was just the one narrow store front and its main section on the corner was the A&P grocery store. As always, friendly, knowledgeable, helpful staff and service one will not find anywhere else. If they don't have it on the shelf, they can get it. Free ship-to-store now available in the internet age. If they can't fix it, it probably can't be fixed. As for prices, seems to be about the same as anywhere else. They used to deliver and I would presume they still do. You'll have to ask. read more

Very disappointed with the service at this location. Dropped off a door window frame that need new safety glass. They said it would take just a few weeks. Now it's about a month and a half and the store has to "light a fire under their butts" to find out what's going on. What the heck! It's getting cold out and I need my 3 season room closed up! It doesn't take this long to make glass. The service here is terrible, I wouldn't recommend anyone to go to this place. Good for home project materials but not servicing windows, lawnmowers, snowblowers, etc. read more

I have been going to this store for close to 30 years. Today I went in because I needed help getting open my old garage door opener so I could change the battery. Bill W did it for me free. I just paid for the battery. I also bought several other things because of the incredible amenity of having these handy people available to us. If you haven't had something fixed there, you are missing a very special offering. Won't find anything like this at the big hardware stores. And while you are there BUY some other things you need. You might pay a few extra dollars but only a few and they are helping a lot of people! read more

Always thought that the local hardware stores offered exceptional customer service until I went here. From the moment I dropped off my vacuum cleaner for repair the clerk at the counter gave me a attitude when I asked for them to call me with a quote before making the repair. I did not hear anything from them for about a week and half and when I did call to follow up, the person on the phone informed me rudely, "if we have not called you then it isn't done". I went there a couple of days later to pick up my vacuum to see it in the same spot that they put it in when I dropped it off. There was no apology for not being able to provide me a quote or taking so long. Just a sign here to verify that I picked it up. Incredible, ended up going to a shop in Lyons that fixed it in 3 days. read more
