In this food court this is my favorite noodle place. Only because the yakisoba tastes exactly like you get it in Japan, Goza is very good too. Haven't tried any of the ramens yet. It's extremely hard to find places that make yakisoba that taste like the home land ! LOL Believe me ! I tried every Japanese fried noodles in town. And this is the BEST ! I noticed one thing today , they changed there noodle to a thiner type, and the goza is smaller. I know operating cost always go up. But he kept the price the same. Thats ok with me. As long as the taste is the same. read more

Naniwa-Ya Ramen - 1/18/2025. Sad to say the original owner have sold to Chinese. The goza doesn't have Thames taste. And the yakisoba is awful! - Ramen Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Let me start by saying this is a ramen place in a mall food court. So, solid effort, did not get food poisoning, and did not leave hungry. If that's what you're after, stop here. That being said, there are some things I didn't like. First of all, the ramen is boiling lava hot. I get it. It's fresh. But, I sat for nearly fifteen minutes before I could even touch the stuff. Secondly, vegetarians beware. I've been a vegetarian for years and, I'm strict about it, but, I'm not going to sue if it turns out something I ate was made with beef broth. I ordered the veggie ramen and it came with fish cake. Again, I understand we're talking about shopping mall ramen, but, if you want to know why the three star rating, that's why. Lastly, and this is clearly my inner four year old coming out, something smells funny in the broth. Not like it's spoiled, but just odd. Overall, this is a solid choice to make sure you don't starve to death before you die of natural causes. If you really want something tasty and delicious, I'd check around this giant food court first. read more

I really wanted ramen so I came across this spot in the food court. I ordered some ramen (forgot to take a picture) and some side dishes. It came out pretty quickly and it was very affordable (ramen is about $10). I really liked this place and plan on returning here again if I want some ramen at Ala Moana without having to sit down in a restaurant. read more

I make an effort to absolutely always come here and grab some gyoza. Just gyoza. Nothing else. They're made here by hand by an old lady. I seen it! Dipping sauce is good too. Salty but hey! When in Rome, or should I say when in Naniwa, right. Go get some gyoza! It's like $1 each. Not bad read more

Ate at the food court. My pork yakisoba was yummy. The gyoza is awesome. My wife though the spicy beef ramen was alright. read more

I always go to this place and never had a problem with it, until recently. I came to buy the same thing, they gave me the wrong order. I nicely told the cashier lady that she got my order wrong (cause I noticed I was charged for more than usual) then she looked at me and rolled her eyes, took out the CASH from the tip jar and tossed it in a very rude way on the counter. I even told her before the could even make my order. read more

Spicy beef ramen is the best thing to order. Very spicy but addicting! A good, fast meal. Tried the miso ramen, and it didn't have a lot of flavor. They also have a stamp card in which you visit 10 times and then get (1) free menu item! Deal! read more

Price: reasonable Service: I got the food pretty fast, and they guy taking my orders was pretty nice Food: The beef spicy ramen was delicious!!! HOWEVER, it is SUPER SPICY!! Now I know I'm a person who can't tolerate spicy food very well so maybe ppl who are good at the spicy food will find it not too bad. So if you are up to the challenge, I definitely recommend it. The gyoza tasted good, not blowing my mind but not bad either, just how you would expect gyoza to taste. However, they are REALLY TINY (I wish I had pics to show but I was too hungry, sorry). Please at least get 5 pieces unless you're eating by yourself, then 3 pieces may be okay. read more

Ramennnn yummmmm! Yes the people are Chinese, they aren't really Japanese, but their Ramen is still delicious! I ordered the Naniwa Ramen which is their specialty and I loved it. The noodles weren't as chewy as I'd like but the flavorful broth and the loads of goodies topped on it made up for it. I'm definitely coming back here to get a quick ramen fix. I am admitting that this is no fancy place, it's just in the food court of Ala Moana and I was looking for a quick bite to eat. I didn't have the gyoza, and I wouldn't really try all the other Kim Chee flavors and stuff, but honestly I had no complaints nor did my tummy of the naniwa ramen. The staff were very nice and friendly as well. I don't really understand all the bad reviews.. but it's delicious to me so I'll keep coming back :) One more place knocked off my list of ramen places to visit. Yay! read more

This is the worst ramen I had ever had. I ordered the miso ramen and it was non editable. The soup was so salty and the noodles were so mushy. I really tried to eat it since I paid $12 for it, but I barely took two bites and ended up throwing it away. At first I thought maybe it was just me but I gave my boyfriend a bite to try and he also said it was just so horrible! Such a waste of money! read more

This is one of many varietal food vendors in the Ala Moana Shopping Center food court. I was hungry for noodles, and this was the first place I came to. It was just okay. There are much better choices located out of the food court. read more

3.5 stars. I'm a big ramen fan, so I feel pretttty experienced to say that this place does the flavor + portions + balance of meat/veggies fantastically. We got the spicy beef, kimchi, and two miso ramen noodles. The noodles had the perfect soft/hard ratio. The soup wasn't too salty. SMALL complaint. I know this is a food court, so I get that their resources are limited and it's pretty conventional to dispense food in disposable plastic food containers. The plastic bowl deal just doesn't sit well with me, at least when it comes to soup. I love my noodle soup piping hot, but I just can't comfortably eat it like knowing the soup is simmering in polystyrene! read more

I envy native and implanted Hawaiians! I was on Oahu working for a couple of weeks last Spring, and I fell in love. Asian and fusion cuisine totally rock my world. I stayed at the Ala Moana Hotel, so I spent a few nights wandering the adjacent mall. Mall food courts in Texas contain predominantly chain fast-food restaurants, so I usually steer clear of food court food. I was absolutely blown away by the variety of choices in the Ala Moana Mall food court and the lack of chain restaurants involved. I'm a soup fiend, so I gravitated immediately to Naniwa-Ya. I had never had authentic ramen before, so this was a life-changing experience. I ordered the vegetable ramen, and it was outstanding--hot, perfectly seasoned, with chewy, never-ending noodles. Naniwa-Ya ruined me. There's no place in Austin, TX that serves a decent bowl of ramen. In fact, there are only 2 restaurants that even serve ramen at all! I may have to buy a plane ticket back to Hawaii just to get my ramen fix! read more

Located in the Ala Moana Mall food court. This place doesn't look like much but to me this is the pinnacle of ramen. I will forever remember this experience of what ramen truly can be. It was beyond delicious, its ramen heaven. read more

Hey! I don't know why this place got such bad ratings! I really enjoyed this place. It's located in the food court of the Ala Moana Shopping Center. I think this is a good place if you're a tourist (aka me!) and have not had fresh ramen, lol. I'm not like an expert on choosing ramen, but what I know is: Shio = salt Tonkotsu = pork bone Shyu = soysauce Miso = ... obvious... So anyway, I got some miso ramen. Yummy! Had a little fish cake and some char siu / xa xiu in / bbq pork slices in it.. Broth was yummy too. I didn't get sick here, but I also didn't eat the gyoza. The other reviews are about one to two years old, so try this place if you're around! I went to Hawaii late June 2008. :) PS - Be careful carrying your hot, scolding bowl of ramen across the food court. Don't get 3rd degree burns, haha. read more

The worst Ramen shop in Honolulu hands down! Unpleasant workers, high price for basic shoyu ramen and the ramen itself, over-cooked noodles, harsh soup and tasteless pork. Got served the bottom of the pot broth so overpowering. I paid the price with MSG overload that night and the next morning. I'm amazed that this shop is still in business! read more

Nani wa (What was...)? is exactly my feelings about Naniwa-ya Ramen. Their extremely simplified menu makes it easy to come to a decision. I saw their special, pork kimchee miso ramen and knew immediately thats what I wanted. The bf decided more on a simple beef ramen. Ooohh I loved that beef ramen more than my complicated mess. His broth was mushroom/bamboo flavored with tender beef, ramen and more bamboo - jealous - I don't think he saw my yearning eyes since he was too busy devouring his bowl. Not to say that my pork kimchee miso ramen wasn't good. It was, but I'm just a bamboo/mushroom addict. There were abundant kimchee and pork in the ramen and sprouts as well. Broth was complex but tasty. What really caught my taste buds was their crispy garlic chips! Its sliced garlic baked to a crisp. They also had a little container of extra condiments of green onion, etc. Both ramens with a large drink came out to $20! -gasp- -keel over- This is why I don't eat in the mall is all I'm going to say any more on the matter. read more

Naniwa-Ya Ramen is truly a fast food ramen place. It's located in the Ala Moana Mall's food court. The whole food court is a bit of a mad house with everyone running around and trying to find seating was a pain. I ordered the miso ramen with pork and some gyoza. They got the order out quick enough and it tasted OK, but like everything in Hawaii it was a bit expensive. I would not go out of the way to eat here, but is OK if you're in the mall and in the mood for ramen. read more

The bowl of Ramen that is consistently good - I always find myself eating here, and it's not just because it's conveniently placed in the Ala Moana food court. It was $9 of goodness before the Ramen craze and now it's $10 of goodness - especially a good value given that you can help yourself to the ono roast garlic chips and hot ground pepper. The cha sui is tender and tasty without being fatty as belly pork can be. The only negative to me is eating out of a Styrofoam bowl - kind of makes me think I'm heating up a two minute instant ramen from Don Quixote up the street.. read more

Was shopping around Ala Moana center last night and was finished at around 845p...and we were hungry! Stopped in to get something quick at the food court. I read about the local, homemade noodles from this ramen place, so decided to try it. The ramen noodles were fantastic! Chewy, just the way I like them! I got the veggie ramen, and everything about this was great (noodles, bamboo shoots, cabbage, fried garlic, scallions--steaming bowl of goodness), except for the fact that the soup was laden in MSG...it was sooo salty; left me so thirsty! It would have been so much better in chicken broth! I couldn't finish the big bowl, so got a cover and took it home for lunch today, but drained out the soup! I will come again, but maybe will try something without the soup! My bowl of veggie ramen was ~$8.50...not too expensive for a large bowl, but def more than your store bought! :) read more

Pretty shitty attitude from the cashier, trying to such customers like cattle; the noodles are superstore bought noodles put into styrofoam bowls There's no broth to speak off, the "soup" is just Walmart beef stew mixed with half and half cream, presumably from the next aisle in of the same Walmart. The only reason I'm not giving a one star is that one of the young girls working there is nice, too bad she's stuck working for this very subpar establishment. read more

Best spicy beef I've had. Lovely complex flavor, I enjoy the addition of spinach. Perfect spice level. I wish this places was closer to where we live, but worth the drive into town for me! read more

My ramen spectrum goes from dry noodles with a soup powder package to the old Shiro's, to Wasington, to Tanaka, to Gomaichi and Gomatei, among others. This place is way at the low end. We had the shoyu ramen, kimchee ramen, gyoza, and a manapua. The noodles were non descriptive. The soup base was basically the noodle cooking water, bland and nasty with no body and no substance. The only flavor came from whatever they tossed in in the last minute, I.e., not cooked into the soup. Thumbs down on the soup and noodles. The manapua was wet on the outside so it was falling apart. I couldn't identify the meat but it tasted like leftover instead of charsiu. Thumbs down on that too. The gyoza wasn't too horrible. That is actually redeeming. But overall, I can't recommend this place knowing full well that I will never eat here again. Bleh! read more

The food here is mediocre at best. The noodles seemed overcooked and the broth is average. For about ten dollars this can all be yours! (But Robert, they have garlic chips) well yay? Does baked/fried garlic chips make that much of a taste difference? It's still the same noodles, still the same broth. And no, the workers here aren't Japanese, their Chinese, maybe if the noise in the food court was toned down a bit maybe you can here them chat. Needless to say, if you're going to eat here wait till the food court is empty. Why? Because as I was on a quest (yes, I said quest it was that hard) to find a seat to eat someones brat kid nearly ran into me nearly making me spill my food (hot broth+body=sad times). So fellow yelpers, if you have kids please put a leash on them or at least keep an eye on them cause it only takes one run in for a bowl of hot soup to fall on your child. For the price you pay I think Goma-Tei has a little better food and they sit you down on top of that. Ambiance is better and the noise level is significantly reduced. read more

This is a good place to eat for a quick meal in the Makai Market food court. I tried the spicy beef ramen and it had a rich broth, with a lot of chunks of tender beef. I really enjoyed it and will order it again. I was warned it was very spicy, but I ended up adding sriracha to it. Nothing is too spicy for me! read more

Not worth trying. I've had ramen from many different places and this one is near the bottom of my list. This is one of the MANY choices at the Ala Moana Shopping Center food court. Because I couldn't make up my mind, I chose to eat here. I finished the entire bowl myself but I kind of wish I chose something else. The broth is a little too salty in my opinion. read more

This place looks appealing because there are all Japanese people working there, you'd think, "authentic!" Ordered the spicy kim chee ramen and the miso ramen. Lemme just start with the outcome: the noodles are good and not soggy at all, the bases are not very tasty, and lastly everything is salty. I think the only thing I enjoyed was the garlic chips (Koreans love garlic btw, it keeps the vampires away). I guess you get for what you paid for. But for $8 a bowl I should've went outside the food court to goma tei. "GOMA TEI is betta than Naniwa-Ya for the same price." On a side note, I noticed all the Japanese tourists eating here.... If I went on vacation, I think I'd venture away from comfort food. Just saying... lol. read more

Haven't been to this particular ramen shop in a while. I remember it being pretty decent. What I don't remember is the outrageous prices and bland taste. I got the miso ramen. I like the variety of veggies such as the menma and garlic. But the soup was bland, the noodles were overcooked and it was way too oily. I also got 3 pieces of gyoza for $2.95. Can you say ouch? You'd think it tastes amazing for a price like that, but it actually tastes like it was originally frozen. I think their gyoza sauce was spoiled too. It was sour. Don't blame the fact that the store is run by Chinese that the food doesn't taste authentic. They just haven't done their research on Japanese ramen. Workers are decent enough to communicate with. It's located in the food court, so a nice ambiance is out of the question. If it wasn't for the outrageous prices, I may come back for a different tasting ramen. But with my drink, it totaled up to almost $15. Not your fast food experience price. read more

Bought the Kimchee Ramen. I thought it would be kimchee flavored broth with some kimchee on the top, but I was wrong. It was regular shoyu broth with kimchee on the top. It wasn't spicy and it wasn't flavorful. I was extremely disappointed considering the fact that Honolulu is known for having a lot of Japanese people therefore making the food more authentic? Tried the miso squid ramen bowl. The soup base here was bland at best and not even fully dissolved into the soup. The vegetables and spices weren't very fresh, and all in all it didn't taste as authentic as some of the other options nearby. And to top it all off, besides just being all but flavorless (we had to add a mountain of red crushed pepper to taste anything at all), the soup was extremely oily. I gave three stars for this review because of the amazing service that I was given by the gentleman at the counter. Would not recommend or come here again. read more

sometimes I just need some ramen, and although I love another place close to this, I also love getting some hot ramen from Naniwa-ya. You can't go wrong with curry ramen ... like ever! So that is my absolute favorite. It's located in the food court in Ala Moana, and coming here during rush hour is a bad idea. Mainly because there are no seats...like...anywhere! Last time I went I had to stalk some little lady for her seats and had to run to get it before being knocked down by some crazy person. But once I had my ramen, and my seat .. and of course some of their awesome Gyoza, I was content. I suggest trying their ramen and especially their gyoza. They are delish! read more
