    Lunch specials

If it wasn't for a guy in a chicken suit passing out coupons at the Metro station, we wouldn't have known about the lunch specials. You can order a quarter chicken, a sandwich, or wrap, and get a side and bottomless soda for $9.99! Service can be really slow during the lunch hour, however, and the lack of soundproofing and industrial space makes it hard to maintain a conversation at the indoor tables, making the outside tables a preferred option if the weather cooperates!

Service was friendly and fast. Place was relatively clean. Outdoor seating area is nice but compact. Has a mix of different seating types from high tops to tables, benches to stools, and pergola to umbrella style shade. Menus are no through scanning a QR code there's no menu to be physically govern or even hanging on the walls. Presentation of the food is nicely done with colorful plates and well presented meals. Quantity is as expected so it's nice they didn't try to skip but it's also not overly abundant. The hummus can probably feed 2 people that have an appetite and more if you're willing to share and it's just a starter. The veggie burger was fantastic; flavorful and nicely topped. I removed 1 star because the price point is high, but then again everything has shot up in price from before.

Great food and great service as I've come to expect from most Nando's. The place was practically empty at around 2 pm on a nice Sunday. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The space was very neat and well kept. Condiment/utensil/fountain drink area was very neat and organized. Food was ordered via scanning a QR code and through the app/website. You pay (and tip) through the app/site as well. The servers brought our food over in about 10-15 minutes. Food (wings, fries, rice and skewers) were all very good. Overall a good experience, my only issue/recommendation was more bathrooms. They currently have two (2) gender neutral bathrooms. When I was about ready to leave, I had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a bathroom to become available (both were seemingly occupied by employees). This was when the restaurant was empty....I can't imagine how long that wait would be if the restaurant was busier. The area is nice with a lot of eating options. Parking can be tough, but there is a reasonably-priced outdoor lot at Water Street and 4th Street. ($2-$3 per hour)

The hummus was really good on this dish.

Had an early dinner here last night. We got a table inside by the window. There was also a outside patio area. We placed our order by cell phone. It took a while to come up. The waitress brought us glasses for our drinks. The drinks were self serve and there were quite a few options to choose from. There was also an area to choose your own peri peri sauces. Everything from mild to hot. Our meals were all tasty. Chicken had a fantastic spicy taste that lingers in the mouth after you're done eating. Definitely a place to try. They also have takeout.

I'll start with my experience with the chicken. The leg had a hot taste in my mouth and pairs with the crispy french fries. The wings were a bit too charcoaled and portion was quite small. The atmosphere is casual and inviting. It's ideal for a night out with friends or family. The staff was friendly and had great energy.

    Nando's advertised Mac bowl.

The portion sizes have gotten way too small. These are pretty expensive meal prices and we should actually be getting a whole meal. It has been a recurring problem in the last few months. Another time was getting a tiny piece of chicken on the sandwich that was less than half of the size of the bread. I'm shocked by how much different and smaller my bowl ended up being from Nando's. And for almost $20 after tax!!! This location is not at all what it used to be and something needs to be changed. I'm extremely disappointed by this rip off.

Was slightly underwhelmed by the hype surrounding Nando's Peri-Peri. The photos on the menu make it seem like you'll get more meat/food but ended up with less then 4 oz of chicken. The flavor of the mango and lime seasoning was good. We got there with plenty of open tables and took about 35 minutes to get our food from time of order. Overall, had an alright experience.

Something different for me while traveling in DC for business. I've never had African food or peri-peri but I really enjoyed my meal from this growing chain of restaurants. The chicken was marinated with so much flavor from the peri-peri sauce and then it had good char from grilling. Very tender as well. The variation of flavors from the sides on my Peri-Peri Chicken Rainbow Bowl were great to later keep tasting the pepper sauce. I really enjoyed the side of Macho Peas and the hummus served on my entree as well. The Roasted Brussel Sprouts were also tasty. The service was a little complicated having to order and checkout from an app, but the people working were friendly and helpful.

The awning outside needs refurbishment and inside furniture is not updated. It's dark inside, almost like a night club. Perhaps it is sometimes. I did not like the decor, it was a little run down and honestly did not match up to the prices. The service was also disappointing. I felt that staff lacked a bit of professionalism and they rarely checked on us. The plates are huge. That is a plus. My partner ordered the goat and I tried the red snapper. I think one plate is big enough to share. I like the spinach, but everything needed a bit of salt. While the red snapper was coated in a lovely tomato and red pepper gravy, I felt it made the crispyness of the fried fish disappear and it was kind of soggy. Maybe you can ask for the gravy on the side. The food is not bad, but given the physical establishment and the service I wouldn't return.

The chicken came out with blackened edges because of their preparation method. I don't prefer that taste, but others may. I did not find the sauce to be particularly spicy so I added the 'extra hot' sauce on the side, which helped to add more flavor. Surprisingly, the chicken breast was very moist, along with the thigh. The ambience is casual and relaxed. There are plenty circular or modular seats along with smaller tables along the back end of the restaurant. My biggest complaint was their restrooms. They have gender neutral restrooms; two stalls total. Both restrooms were in great need of cleaning with a LOT of bodily fluids all along the toilets and floors. Also, there was no option for hand towels, only an air blower to dry your hands, which is one of the most disgusting ways to dry freshly washed hands. I recommend either creating one male and one female stall instead of unisex because men and women have very different habits in the restroom. This, together with the dark vibe, made me feel as if I were eating with ppl. from B.C. in a cave. Very interesting. I like that. For food, I got the Carrot Havuc, Omani Shrimp and Halloumi. But first I was served with some freshly made whole wheat pita. They were soft, chewy and earthy. The Carrot Havuc was basically a carrot+garlic puree. Very silky, refreshingly sweet, and a bit sour. The sourness may come from the garlic and lemon. Paired well with the pita and meats. The Omani shrimp came with 5 pieces, each shrimp was ~1oz so it was not very filling. The shrimp were meaty, fresh, juicy, though I wish it could be less salty, even if I already asked for less salt. The shrimp was said to be marinated with dried lime and tamarind but I could only taste the flavor of dried lime. The Halloumi cheese was brushed wild flower honey and topped with Egyptian dukkah, then baked until the outside was golden brown. It was salty and sweet, and the (tons of) sesame seeds added some fragrance to it. However, the peanut was too roughly chopped so that they fell off from the cheese when I slice it, and thus difficult to eat with the cheese. Service was not worth the 20% mandatory tip. For example, when I asked about the sourness of the Carrot Havuc, he did not know why and said he would "taste it and let me know where the sourness came from". Unfortunately, he did not tell me until I asked again when doing the check (I doubt if he tasted it in the first place). Neither did he ask me about the other dishes. Overall, the dishes were great but not impressive, and was mostly heavily flavored. The service could be improved.

Too tired and hungry to send it back, we just ate it... and the meal just didn't hit the way Nando's usually does. The mushy peas we'd been looking forward to aren't even on the menu anymore, which was its own small disappointment. On the bright side, I ordered a 5 oz glass of wine and got what looked like a double pour. Not complaining... but it does sum up the vibe. The staff seemed indifferent, whether it was end-of-night fatigue or just an off-night, hard to say. We'll probably give Nando's another shot elsewhere, but this DC visit was disappointing enough that I can't really recommend this location.
