First time ever at Nando's. Always passed by in various locations ( Nat'l Harbor, Arundel Mills, DC) and wanted to try but never made it inside. Luckily, a friend asked me to accompany him to dinner here and he reminded me that I had wanted to check this place out. Let me just say that the food was good. I had the Chicken Pita with two sides, and I selected the corn on the cob and Portuguese rice. The corn needed a little salt for extra seasoning, but other than that, I was very satisfied with the overall taste of my food. The portions were a little disappointing, considering the cost for everything. It's not that this place is expensive, because it's not, but its like the ambiance, menu options, portions, and prices do not make sense to me. This place is like a weird balancing act of a Chipotle-type of fast food joint and sit down restaurant that translates into a well-decorated cafeteria with mismatched price and portion offerings. When you arrive, you are given a "server" like any other generic restaurant. He/she seats you and then takes no more than five seconds to tell you to look over the menu and head over to the cashier to place your order once you make your decision. Does anyone really need a server to tell you to stand in line? Yeah, no. So we order at the register and tell the "number" table we are sitting at. Our food arrives pretty quickly, but without napkins, utensils, or condiments. Guess what? You have to get up from your own table and fetch those items for yourself. I'm so not trying to be a whiny first-world American right now, but I was really taken aback by that set-up. Essentially, the food was really good, but I can't see myself justifying spending nearly $14 on tiny portions for fast-food. Chicken is delicious more specifically the skin! The sauces are great my favorite in the lemon herb one and in second the mango herb one. The coleslaw had some extra flavor to it than your ordinary coleslaw does which I enjoyed. The Portuguese rice wasn't anything special. I would definitely go back again! read more

Nando's Peri-Peri is based on a spice that was discovered in Africa called the African Bird's Eye Chilli (or, Peri-Peri). They are known for their butterfly-cut, flame-grilled chicken as well as other items in the menu such as: sandwiches, pitas, wraps, salads, sides, and desserts. To start off with, I had the Spicy Mixed Olives, which had green and black olives, mixed with garlic, peppers, and chilli - I thought the olives were pretty good, but the green ones were the dominant ones as there were more of those than the salty black ones. I had the 5 Whole Wings combination (you can choose the chicken to be 'plain,' 'lemon & herbs,' 'mango & lime,' 'medium,' 'hot,' or 'extra hot peri-peri sauce.' I had it 'Plain' with 2 sides - the Flame-Grilled Corn on the Cob and the Portuguese Rice. I wasn't really a fan of the chicken as it was really dry - I can appreciate the flame-grilled and the charcoal taste, but I wasn't too fond of the chicken being extremely dry, considering there is only so much meat on wings! The corn was okay and I wasn't a fan of the rice as that was bland and unflavorful. The vibe of the restaurant was very energetic, and there were many families and couples dining in. It did take quite some time for us to get our food as the kitchen seemed to be backed up, so we waited for a solid 30-45 minutes. Stopped by for dinner with a family friend last night. I had no problem enjoying myself, the restaurant and all the other companies around me but the food itself is okay. Chicken is on the dry side, fries are average, garlic bread was slightly over-pasted with butter, and the fro-yo tasted like custard ice cream. When we got up again to order dessert, we told a server that we would be right back but they cleaned up our table anyways.. it was a nice gesture in a way, however there was obviously a lack of communication because the same server offered to give us cups again for drinks. Left a $3 tip.. I always feel unsure how much to tip at restaurants where there's a mix of ordering at the cashier yet there are still servers. read more

This location has outdoor seating and a parking garage nearby. My husband and I were invited to eat here because our friends that just moved to Silver Spring thought it was a local restaurant and they really liked their food. But they were bummed to find out that it's actually a chain that started in London. But hey, it's good so we were still happy to eat here and tell them what we know about the place. Best flame broiled chicken in the city Love this place and eat there in any event once every 10 days. It's about flame broiled chicken. Be that as it may, the side dishes are likewise great, including the Portuguese rice, cold slaw and pureed potatoes. I would keep away from the old fashioned corn and the french fries. The chicken is given a spritz of hot/sweet sauce. You tell the request taker how hot/spicey you lean toward. I really like Nando's. Though it never comes to mind when I am thinking of someplace to eat. But, it is a great place to go with a group of friends or with just yourself. It's simple enough to appeal to a broad range of people, but the selection and flavors are unique enough to not feel like you are eating the same old thing. I am usually satisfied when I go to Nando's. I really enjoy the chicken and the different sauces. And they have delicious garlic bread! But the last visit I ventured out and ordered something new. I tried the Chicken breast wrap and it just wasn't my thing. The chicken was a little dry and I wasn't feeling the chili jam that was spread on the wrap. It is interesting, but not what I was expecting. Though this experience will not deter me from coming here. In regards to the atmosphere, Nando's has a nice, casual feel. You order your food at the counter and pay and then they bring your food to you. This works well for instances when you do want to deal with splitting the bill! Nando's has consistently good quality food and a fun atmosphere (although we usually get ours to go - and sometimes we're even so lazy that we order through Postmates). I'm not going to lie - it's pretty expensive for the portion size you get (especially the dark meat chicken). However, it really is reliably good food that is unique, so we find ourselves craving it pretty regularly. The chicken itself is really well-flavored. It's always perfectly cooked with nice flavor and a ton of great sauce options to add onto it if you're looking for more. Luckily you can choose your heat level so it's not too overwhelming (unless you want it to be!) The sides are also great. The mashed potatoes are smooth and creamy, and you do get a good portion size. The garlic bread, although not something I'd normally order, is wonderfully buttery yet still crispy. The rice is also pretty good, and my husband likes the coleslaw. I also really like some of the sides that cost extra, like the mixed green salad (actually really good, especially their house salad dressing) and the butternut squash and corn. I wasn't such a fan of the brussels sprouts, which seemed a little mushy in my opinion, but it is a pretty big portion. Honestly, I've never really branched out from my usual chicken order with 2 sides because I like it so much - I bet the sandwiches and salads are all really good too though. When we order through Postmates, we usually get the whole chicken family deal, which ends up being cheaper and you get some leftovers. I do like the atmosphere of the restaurant - even though you order at the counter and get your own silverware, drinks, etc, it has the feel of a sit-down restaurant with waiters. The design is nice and modern, you can order alcoholic drinks if you want, and the food is as good as in a sit-down restaurant. I love that you can choose whichever sauces you like, and they have the nice freestyle soda machine along with some other good non-alcoholic drink options too. I placed an online order for delivery. They sent me squash/corn instead of Brussels sprouts, wrong chicken, and a bottle of coke was missing. I called. A staff said she couldn't process refund because the manager was not there. When I complained she became irritated and rude. I called next morning. The manager said she was going to give me the refund. Then she sent me an email saying she can only give me a coupon which can be used only in the restaurant. I am still not comfortable to dine in the restaurant. This is not the first time they sent me wrong order or the staff was rude. I will never go there or order food from them again. The place is an ideal location to downtown silver spring. You can sit on the patio and watch the crowd on hotter days. Service was very friendly and prompt but food was meh. As I write this review I am still WAITING on my food. I went to the back to see what was the hold up and its going on 20 min...I ordered skewers fries and coleslaw which should literally take less than 10 min..at least tell the person who is almost waiting 30 min that "hey sorry we are backed up so it will take a while " n lack of good customer service...this sorta place shouldn't take more than 20 min. Its ridiculous..I could've went next door to copper canyon...this is my second time here and last!!!!! Update! If you are looking for decent chicken, Nandos Peri Peri's is one of the better places in Silver Spring downtown. Decor and environment is adequate with nice and friendly service from my experience. I order a 1/2 chicken with X hot sauce, with sides of chips and mashed potatoes, and a Chicken wrap with a slice of pineapple. Likes: 1. Chicken was well seasoned and very moist 2. Chicken wrap went very well with a slice of pineapple, added a nice texture to it. 3. The sauces went great with the chicken. Dislikes: 1. Chips perinaise kind of fell flat 2. Overall the food was good. I got their new chicken salad with heirloom tomatoes and halloumi cheese. It was really good and fulfilling. The low rating was due to the service. The service was bad because it took forever and when I finally got help, the server did not know how to process my coupon. Then when she got help, there was still a problem. I change my order to make it easier for the server to process but it took a long time to figure it out. If the corporate office is going to give out coupons to drive business, then they need to train their people. Corporate needs to work with staff not against staff to keep customers coming. read more

I couldn't wait to have nandos!! It's been years and years!! I read reviewer about how bad the service was so wasn't expecting much. Maybe that's why I liked it so much?! There was plenty of seating. Service was quick and the food, oh so delicious!! We shared the half chicken, peri fried, with corn and olives. Got the olives coz we were really hungry and they totally hit the spot! The chicken was done beautifully and was delicious! My favorite sauce was the hot one! Yummy! The fries were yummy with the perinaise mixed with a little hot sauce! The corn was good and not super soft and mushy like some places! The pineapple drink was so refreshing! I loved this place!!! Don't be put off by the reviews. Give it a chance! I definitely wasn't disappointed! The food we got was more than enough for us so the helpings are big! If I'm back in the area this place will be on my list of places to go to! This is a great spot to go to if you like chicken. My usual is the 1/4 chicken leg and thigh (dark meat) with either fries or the Portuguese rice as my side. I'm not a fan of spicy so I've only ventured to try the plain...ish, lemon and herb, and mango and lime sauces. The other flavors are medium, hot, and extra hot. if you don't want to get any of those directly on your chicken or maybe you want more than one, they have an array of sauces you can get near the silverware . The mango and lime is my favorite - its tangy and flavorful. The chicken is always moist and the skin is crisp - every time I have gone to Nando's the chicken has been tasty. The fries are good, though pretty standard - I would recommend eating them with ketchup or one of their sauces. I thought the Portuguese rice was on the spicy side (but then again I have a low tolerance for spicy foods), but it wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. The setup is a little weird if you've never been to a Nando's before, but the hostess will explain it to you if you're new. I'll also explain it here: when you enter, they'll tell you your table number and give you a menu. When you get to your table you can take as long as you need to decide- when you're ready you go up to the counter to order. (Note: you have to tell them your table number when you order so they know what table to bring it to.) I would recommend this place for groups if you want to split the check because you can all just order separately. After you place your order you go sit down and they will bring it to you when it's ready. After you order you can go fill up your drink, get your silverware, get extra sauces or what have you. Service was excellent. The food was prepared and brought to us quickly. They came to check on us to make sure we were doing okay and took our plates away when we were done. I wasn't expecting that just based on ordering at the counter. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because the silverware doesn't always look clean. This is a great spot for lunch in Downtown Silver Spring! Wait time is always reasonable even during the typical lunch rush most restaurants in the area experience between 12pm-1pm on weekdays. On my last visit I requested a booth away from the door since it was chilly outside. The host was super accommodating and switched our seat. I ordered the Chicken Pita with a side of mashed potatoes. The food was good, comparable to other locations. The restaurant itself is clean and the utensils and Nandos sauces are organized and easily accessible. The staff here are really polite, after we were served our meals, we had someone check on us several times to ask us if we needed anything. This location is terrible!! Their food and manager are equally disappointing!! I dined in for lunch today and whilst eating I discovered a strand of hair. The manager came over and tried to convince me that it was from the corn they grill the chicken on too- this was definitely human hair!! I completely lost my appetite and they remade my lunch to go. Here's the kicker, I got home and plated the chicken and to my surprise a big chunk of meat was removed, which looks like it has been bitten off. In the middle to a pandemic!!! We were not greeted at the door and upon approaching the counter patiently waiting to be acknowledged the cashier, Lynette did not offer menus--simply nodded at the catering menu in our hands and said "that's not the menu." Proceeds to shout across the restaurant to her coworker. Before we even order she says "Let me tell you what we don't have." Snide remarks as she's placing our order saying how we need to hurry up and order and that can she say the establishment is closed already. This was the most distasteful customer service I've ever experienced in downtown Silver Spring. This is the kind of treatment that will never lead to any returning customers. It was appalling to hear the conversations over the phone that were being answered WHILE WE WERE TRYING TO ORDER --going as far as saying "maybe at another Nando's but we don't do that here." rude and unprofessional. read more

It's a step above casual fast food.. The chipotle and things. The lighting is dim, you wait to get seated. Then you walk up to place your order. Food gets delivered to you table. You have to pick up your own utensils, sauces and drink. Then at the end of the meal you leave your plates and trash at the table. Service is usually friendly and upbeat. Food has always been solid. They serve beers on tap and bottles. They also serve wine and sangria. I like the red sangria a lot. The last time I went I got the baby kale salad with chicken and I really really enjoyed it! It was sauce nicely.. Not too much but not too little. There was shredded chicken breast that was very moist. Only thing I didn't like we're the olives.. Just didn't taste right in the salad. It was a fairly large plate of salad. I forget how much it was but I remember it wasn't cheap. This was probably the best salad I've had in a very long time. Mm writing about it makes me wanna go back! The bf got wings with the extra spicy sauce... Which was extra spicy... I had a taste and couldn't do anymore. He got the peas and fries I believe. He didn't care for the peas but I liked them. They just tasted like mashed peas though... Nothing great but I love my veggies. Our friends got a quarter chicken with two sides and a wrap. The staff at the pickup couldn't even be bothered to ask if I needed anything. They just looked at me like "why is this guy even standing here?". Really good. Interesting decor. Good food choices, and the fact that sangria pitchers are 2/3rds off during happy hour is nothing to bat an eye at. The place is very chicken heavy, so you better like chicken. I got the portabello mushroom sandwich which was quite delicious. I have been to Nando's several times with friends. I've been here when it is crowded and when it isn't. I like the food, which is mostly chicken or vegetarian dishes. The service has always been friendly. There are probably less expensive places to eat in this neighborhood but I am more than happy to give my money to Nando's and eat their food. The most recent dinner I had here was the Nutty Chicken Date Salad. It was a much bigger dish than I thought it would be. For dessert I had the Carrot Cake, which I have had before. Nandos is nice to go to when you are having a grilled chicken craving! They do not compare to Peruvian chicken, which happens to be my fave! Their Sangria's are AWESOME! I've been to this Nando's several times and I've never had a bad experience here. The food is good- I love the wings the most, the garlic mashed potatoes next, and the pineapple soft serve the next best!! I love it all! The system for ordering is always a little awkward- bring up the number? don't bring it up? one person orders but we need two id's if we're both getting drinks? But we always figure it out. Servers are always great about checking in and making sure we have to go bags. read more

Good comfortable food stop at Silver Spring. No complaints about the staff but I thought they needed to hire 1 or 2 more persons when I was there. I only saw maybe 2 persons serving dishes and no one greeting at the door to direct you to a table. I like Nando's. It's easy take out and many of their menu items are soy free, which is a must for me yet difficult to come by--especially in a chain restaurant. I first had Nando's one hot day this summer. No one in our house wanted to cook. We tried a couple of their 1/2 chickens, one basted in lemon herb the other mango lime. I preferred the mango lime but imo it's way too salty to eat as a main sauce. I've tried the sides too. Portuguese rice is a good choice as is the cucumber-poppy seed salad. Duds include the butternut squash cora and the fries. We've been back a few times now and can attest to the consistency of both quality and taste. Service is terse but fast. But we have had some order mistakes, including missing all our desserts on our most recent order! The staff said they would make a note next to our name that we were owed three desserts next time we're in. I remain dubious about this but will update this review accordingly once I've checked out that part of their system. read more
