1/4 chicken with peri peri fries and coleslaw. Yum!
    Margaux B.

A British friend of mine recommended this place to me so I thought I'd try it out. I had been living off of frozen pizza and cereal for a week, since London is so damn expensive, so I thought this would be a treat. THE EXPERIENCE: Walking in, the layout is a little confusing, at least to me as a foreigner. It looks like you order when you walk in and then take it to your table. Except when I went to order I was stopped short by a waiter/host who then took me to my table and gave me a menu. I sat down, figured out what I wanted then asked if I was support to order through a waiter and they said I had to go to the front. So I unwillingly left my personal things at my table (out of sight) to go order my food at the front. When I got there the cashier asked me for my table number. There was a number on my table? I had no idea. So I had to walk back to my table and find it. Table 3. I walk back to the cashier, customers behind me hate me at this point. I then pay and get a receipt (my meal was £7.65 for a 1/4 chicken and two sides) and sit back down. I wait maybe 10 minutes, nothing crazy and my chicken, peri chips (seasoned french fires) and cole slaw comes out. It all looks delicious. But wait I have no silverware or condiments or napkins. Did the waiter forget? I look around and realize it's all at a bar in the center of the room. I have to leave my stuff, and my food again. I grab a fork, knife, napkins, my garlic sauce (recommended by my friend) and ketchup and head back to my table. There are waiters everywhere but I'm not sure what there job is exactly, other than to bring the food out. They don't set tables or anything else. THE FOOD: The chicken was good I guess, it's grilled, definitely needs garlic sauce even though I ordered (medium spiceyness level). It's nothing to be over the moon about, slightly better than KFC. The coleslaw was good, lots of mayo but crunchy and fresh. The chips (french fries) were thick cut but seasoned nicely, needed ketchup though. CONCLUSION: Once I finished my meal I flagged down a waitress and asked if we bus our own tables or if they do it. Since I'd done everything else, I wasn't sure. She smiled and said she would do it (didn't really answer my question though). She probably thinks I'm a high maintenance American. In all honesty, I don't mind the self service type of restaurants but they should explain the process if it's your first time there. Most places like Soup Plantation will walk you through it a bit. Food was good, nothing crazy, or too delicious. The price was expensive for me, but reasonable. I suppose a meal like that would cost around $10-$12 in the US, here it was closer to $15. Would I go again? Yes...? I think so, but not often.

I love nandos peri peri chicken so juicy and spicy. Love it

They're also really nice and polite. Over the course of several visits, I tried the sirloin special, the coronation chicken, the chicken escalope, and the chicken/bacon/sweet corn sandwiches. I also tried the scotch eggs. My favorite was the coronation chicken, which I'd never had before (I don't think we have it in the States), but everything I tried was tasty and I'd be happy to have all of them again. The sandwiches are pretty reasonably priced at under £6, which is nice for an area where it's easy to spend the same amount on a cup of coffee and a muffin. I've always been in and out of the shop in just a few minutes, even when it's busy. Their prime lunch traffic seems to come around 12:30 and later; it was pretty empty the 1 time I went at 12. I've always been able to pay with my American bank card without any issues. Definitely recommend this place if you need lunch in the area! They also have breakfast, although I've never tried it.

I nearly couldn't handle the thickness and richness, but that is what they advertise. Pastries looked incredible, I had to snag a bite and absolutely loved the macaroons. Great texture.

But then they announced this " Pret-a-Manger has said it will stop making smoothies, frappes and milkshakes in another blow to its UK customers and drinks subscribers." So I'm like right so what now, then they launch the ridiculous coolers that lack any flavor. They then relaunched milkshakes I'm thinking good. Now they announced this ". First introduced in the UK in April 2023, Club Pret is an evolution of the highly successful Pret Coffee Subscription and will now include an exclusive always-on 20% food discount in addition to 5 drinks per day" Then they announced another price rise to £30 but scrapped milkshakes again and made people use there app. This stopped people sharing there QR code. Why not offer a 2nd user for a fee not Pret. So if you don't like cold coffee it's either coffee or watery coolers for £30 a month. And also it's only 1 size. If you find you buy coffee regular in town it still has something to offer, but if you're wanting smoothies, proper coolers, amazing milkshakes then this isn't the place. I ditched it and take my own from my Tassimo coffee machine and ninja smoothie maker and never look back Also where do they get there food prices from soup £4.50 baguettes up to £6. They know the prices are ridiculous .

The food is tasty yet relatively healthy when compared to other fast food options nearby. The decor was also nice - spacious and clean with condiments, utensils and napkins fully stocked for self service. Staff are also nice too. I think it's important to set your expectations. This isn't a boutique high end sushi restaurant in Japan... I honestly wouldn't even call Itsu a sushi restaurant! It's a casual, largely self serve, fast food chain with some sushi on its menu. You can't be expecting a sub £7 sushi box to compare to sushi restaurants which charge that price for a single sashimi or nigiri. I enjoyed Itsu and would gladly visit one of their other chains.

More like a piece of fish on some rice (and no that's not sushi). Real sushi focuses on the type of rice used, the right amount of vinegar on each grain of rice, the moisture level in the rice. The focus on the grip of the chef is immense, as it translates to whether the sushi falls apart or it's too firm. All of these things come together miraculously, and bonded by some wasabi with a gorgeous piece of generous sashimi. That my friend is called sushi. Itsu's sushi was dry, hard, firm. Sashimi was not fresh and started to dis-color. I personally think it's just unfair how London is dominated by all these bad Jap food chains, and ripping the Londonites of great Japanese food experience. We should mourn for that fish even, as it certainly died in vain. Ok I should stop being dramatic. Reality is that we all know if we wanted great Jap food you won't go Itsu, or these equivalent chains. But personally think it felt more like a mock up than real Jap food at all. Not to be harsh, but i don't think consumers should need to pay so much for such quality.
