Nancy Chang in Worcester is one of my favorite Chinese food restaurants. They seem to have a large & unique variety of plates to choose from. I keep it simple, I'm always at the buffet. It is a smaller buffet but it has all the key choices. Their food is always hot and made very well. I am never disappointed when I have lunch or dinner here. My boyfriend works in the city and grabs food to go and he loves the place just as much as me. I tell my friends and family about Chang's and everybody tells me they tried it and loved it! I love the atmosphere in he restaurant as well. It's more low lit with fish tanks. The bar is a decent size to fit a large Friday and Saturday night crowd. There is plenty of space for parking. Their drinks are amazingly consistent the tiger balms are smooth! A must go for a date night or a lunch. read more

If the wait person was faster I'd give it five stars because they have an amazing menu with clearly marked items for those with food allergies or special dietary needs. If you know someone with special dietary needs you have to take them here. Per the other reviewer though, make sure you are clear about your preferences. Mine was no nuts, no peppers, no onions and we didn't have to worry about no pickles or coleslaw here. We LOVED the chicken tepanyaki dish, both of our favorite, and the shrimp and asparagus. Went in during the week last week. Got sat in a section by ourselves and waited 15 minutes for someone to come by to no avail. Went and let the hostess know that no one had been by to even greet us. She told me she would let someone know. I sat back down and waited another 5 minutes. Still no one. I decided to tell the bartender who then decided to serve us herself. She was great! Some of the food came out cold and the vegetable lo mein had two carrot strings in it. An old time favorite restaurant has gone down hill. Won't be dining in any longer. Many people I know adore Nancy Chang's, and since I've yet to find a decent Chinese food restaurant in the western suburbs, we gave it a try on Friday night. I was worried after reading some recent reviews here, but our experience was positive. I am extremely picky at this type of restaurant; an excess of grease, old food, dried out rice, weird buffets, an excess of grease (oh, did I already say that?) all turn me off. The restaurant was very busy, but we were seated right away, around 7 pm. The service was excellent and our food arrived very quickly. We sampled Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Egg Foo Yong, Hot and Sour Soup and tofu and steamed vegetables (not on the menu, but I just wanted something healthy and light). The guys with me said the chicken was great, and it looked much better than the typical shiny greasy pieces served at other places. I tried the Egg Foo Yong and it was very tasty; my EFY expert said it was the best he's ever had. My healthy meal was prepared as asked for and tasted great. Didn't love the soup; it was thicker than we're used to. Again, service was excellent and of course we came home with a bag full of leftovers. Soon, one of the kids sleeping over heard we'd been at Nancy Chang's, and helped herself to the Sweet and Sour Chicken. Apparently it's her favorite restaurant. read more

We have eaten there before, last year as a matter fact when I came to visit from California. So I thought it would be a great way to end our family vacation. It was horrible. We ate at the buffet, save your money and your stomach. The chicken wings were raw in the middle, the shrimp was over-cooked and tough. I understand they have a switched to new management. It was the worst buffet I have ever been to, and it was a Friday night. I couldn't make myself go back and try anything else. Very disappointed in the place. Honestly this was the worst food I have had in a long time. I was somewhat skeptical when we walked in and there was not a single Asian in the entire place. We should've left right then. We got calamari "and marmalade" + fried dumplings to start. Neither of those were terrible but not particularly good either. For the entrees we got steamed haddock and 1/2 a peking duck. The haddock was way overcooked, and ginger seemed to make up 100% of the sauce. No scallions, seemingly no other subtle flavors. The duck was not hot when it arrived, and the wraps were hard-- more like cardboard then dough. The desserts were way too sweet, just big balls of sugar. We had one bite of each and that was all we could manage. The waitress (or the kitchen) was quite slow-- our meal took two and a half hours and it was NOT because we took our time ordering or eating. We should have been out of there at least 45m earlier. The waitress was very nice though, and even took the desserts off the bill without asking or making it awkward. That saved her from getting a below avg tip. All in all not a good experience. read more

Update: Extra star. I'm a regular here now. I order take out at least once a month and I'm always pleased with the food. They are pretty quick about getting the food ready, even at their busiest. I go in to order and wait maybe 15 minutes. This is my Mom and I's favorite restaurant that we started going to a little over a year ago. I'm vegan and LOVE the fact that they have a separate and lengthy menu. I've been there 5-6 times and for the most part the food has been very good. It's not too greasy and I still feel great after I eat there. I've only had an issue once with the waitstaff and that was maybe a few weeks ago. He argued with me over making the General Tso's less spicy, when I've had it before and had no issues. It came out with hot peppers in it. He also argued with me about ordering a side dish of mixed veggies and tried to sell me on getting the mixed veggie entree because it would be cheaper in the long run. I didn't want all the extra food. Oh well, the other waiters I've had have been very nice. It can get pretty crazy in there around dinner time and very loud. read more

I typically would have given Nancy Chang's 4 stars. For take out they were great, for dine-in, the service was hit or really huge miss. We have been getting carry out on a regular basis as they heavily promote their healthy, vegan, and gluten free food. It was quite delicious and I was kind of addicted to it for a while. I have celiac, so Nancy Chang was one of the only places I could get Chinese food since I've been diagnosed 5.5 years ago. Used to love their veggie lo mien with tofu and rice noodles. I bid my favorite Chinese food farewell as last night I found a regular wheat noodle in my food. A WHEAT NOODLE in my gluten free food from the gluten free menu. I have been once and I would have to say that I was not let down but that I was also not at all overly impressed. Would I eat here again? Yes. Is it a 'must go there' place? Not at all. Here are the upsides. They veggie fry their rice and lo-mein in the buffet, so vegetarians have that going. They also had a tofu and vegetable dish I believe. There seemed to be a standard mix of spicy and standard beef and chicken dishes too like beef with broccoli, general tso's, boneless spare ribs, and so on. And for what it's worth, the decor is actually clean and very nice. The space feels a tad tight, but otherwise it's got nice lighting, trim, and so on. The downsides? One is that about half the buffet is 'second-thought' items. The 'desserts' were a big bowl of chocolate pudding, fried 'chinese donuts' with tons of sugar on them, and a big bowl of fruit chunks. As in 'we whipped these up at 11 am and stuck them out for the next 4 hours.' A large part of the buffet is also deep-fried, entirely uninspired fare: Plain chicken wings, crab rangoons, and spring rolls. All under a heat lamp in a large pan. At least takeout fries it to order. Lastly, I found the rice and noodles to be a bit bland and the selection of dishes limited. This is based on their buffet, I did not order from the kitchen. But overall, their buffet is alright but far from memorable. There is at least another only a mile or two away that is better on that end. read more

Went online to order to go. Received email confirmation that said our food would be ready to pick up in 20 minutes. We arrive to pick up the food and the place is mobbed. Wait for 30 minutes- finally ask what the issue is. Our order was 'never received' because they 'stopped taking online orders.' When I went in to speak with someone, they said all online purchasers were called- except I never was. When they asked when I placed the order and I shared 'about an hour ago' they said the woman probably was still calling all their online orders- but didn't offer an apology. This is my first Yelp post. I cannot sing the praises enough for this restaurant. I had given up on eating Chinese food because everything was so sub par. I ordered take out for 3 of us and for the price 3 days later we are still trying to eat it. The portions are huge for the price. The quality of the ingredients is amazing! When it comes to Chinese food, it simply does not get any better than Nancy Chang. Sure, it may not be the most authentic, but in terms of American-Chinese cuisine, this place is the best. The food is consistently fresh and delicious - especially the light and crispy crab rangoons - and it's the best buffet around. Sad lunch situation today at Nancy Chang's: the floor was entirely soaked and exceedingly slippery. Food lukewarm to tepid at the buffet. Staff member going around with a little dish of sand and sprinkling the floor. They should have warned guests of the bizarre conditions or remained closed to fix whatever went wrong. read more

Poorly managed establishment! What would've been a good experience turned horrible by the closing manager of the restaurant this evening, my father and I went for a later dinner around 8:45 not knowing they closed at 9:30, at 9:27 the waitress asked us to pay so the manager could do the paperwork while we were still eating as they shut off the tv(while we were trying to watch the patriots game) and some lights. Not to say anything against the waitress but this is not right by any means when running a restaurant. If they wanted to leave at 9:30 on the dot they should of told us only takeout when we got there or waited the extra 14 min until we were done at 9:44. It's rude and not how you should run a restaurant. I have been in the industry for ten years and have never asked someone to pay while they are still eating, you suck it up and stay until they are finished or don't seat them! read more

When I arrived at the restaurant about 20 minutes later I was informed that they were out of a couple items that we had wanted and they had tried to call but my voicemail was full. It was completely my bad that I hadn't cleared out my voicemail. Anyway, the woman at the takeout counter promptly entered our new order and led us to the bar area to wait. Had a long day at work!!! Met my girlfriend of many years for a quick snack. We made sure the restaurant wasn't closing soon not to inconvenience the staff. The yelp page and google search add said the restaurant closed at 9:30 perfect it's 8:24. We walk in to a very nice hostess who seats us. We think we are being sat next to another group but nope!!!! we hear a loud streak REALLY IST 8:24 coming from the booth next to us. This banshee happens to be our waitress who made it a point to let us know that the restaurant should be closing in 30 minutes mind you it's 8:30. Then rushes us while we eat crab rangoons, chicken fingers, and noodles. By the way Sits in the Booth parallel to us just on the other side of the stained glass partition grunting and rolling her eyes. Us both being former restaurant workers can cut the tension with a knife on the lady that is breathing on us as we eat. We decided to take our food to go paid the check and left. Yes she was tipped not the 25-30 percent we usually tip but enough to not be the lesser person. To the kitchen staff, and front of the house thank you! To the abrasive older female sorry we inconvenienced you by coming in for a quick bite an hour before the restaurant closed. read more

I just paid $30 for Chinese food, a General tso's and beef and broccoli...with no rice. I called back and they said the dishes I ordered didn't come with rice. I regularly get takeout from Changs. It's very tasty and tastes like a "healthier" version of takeout Chinese food. I've also eaten inside for work outings and inside with friends for drinks and apps. We typically have very good service and yummy food. They have an extensive menu with many great options. read more

Disclaimer: Take out is usually decent (3 stars), so this review is specifically for eat-in service. Four of us came here on a recent Tuesday night for dinner, hoping to make it in time for the buffet which closes at 8:30. We called ahead of time and were told that the restaurant was open til 10. We arrived at around 8:28 pm and were told that the buffet was already closed. No big deal, we thought, we will just order something off of one of the other menus. Our waitress came by and tossed some menus on the table, attempting to rush us as we looked over the drink selection. From the get-go it seemed that she was less than excited to serve us. Placed on our table was a menu that listed "combination plates"- meals with a choice of soup, side dish and entree. The menu stated that the plates were available after 4 PM in the bar area. We kindly asked our waitress about the specials, and she confirmed that these specials were available in the bar only. We politely asked to close out our check with her and tip her so that we could move to the bar and take advantage of the specials. After this request, the waitress went to the bar area and came back, letting us know that the combination specials weren't available anymore because the bartender "wanted to go home". She also let us know that all of the soups were already "put away" and that the kitchen was getting ready to close up. Meanwhile, it was 8:30 pm and the restaurants website and hostess stated that they were open until 10. There were 4-5 other tables seated in the restaurant, so it wasn't like we were the only people there. Getting the feeling that we weren't welcome, and questioning that quality of food we would get from a restaurant that clearly didn't care about doing their jobs as required, we opted to pay our bill and leave. Only then did the waitress display any sense of hospitality, most likely trying to make a decent tip in spite of her poor attitude. We ended up going to The Boynton and having a great meal. Nancy Chang has really gone downhill in recent years. I guess that's what happens when you have a staff that cares more about doing a mediocre job and leaving early than providing good service and making money. Truly disappointing. DO NOT USE THIS CATERER FOR WEDDING! If you are thinking of using Nancy Chang as a caterer for your wedding. Think twice and stay away. You will be disappointed. We went for our menu tasting and everything was great. They assured us that what we are seeing as the presentation and flavor of the food are what we can expect on our wedding day. I left the place feeling relieved since my other caterer canceled on me 2 months before the wedding. I was actually excited to work with them. Brenda was great and a pleasure to work with. If I can rate Brenda on her professionalism, I would give her 5 stars. However this review is for the food and the empty promises. On the wedding day, the food were bland and completely different than what we expected based on the tasting. I was hoping that food was the least of my worries that day. But I was wrong, my guests were complaining that the food were bland. My family who went to the tasting also mentioned to me after the wedding day that the food was not at all like what we tasted prior to the wedding. For example, bird's nest was a staple of the menu. Instead of making the nest out of taro in a shape of a bird's nest, they put a chunk of taro around the plate instead. Not what we had at the tasting. It was rather frustrating that when we meet up with our guests after the wedding, they said that the food was not good at all. I thought it was my family who was probably just exaggerating but even our friends are saying the same thing. I called the owner to complain and he was not very receptive of my criticism. He said that everyone enjoyed the food and there was no complaint. He said he would call me back but it's been over a month and I have not heard from him. Very disappointed! read more

I have been here several times in the past year, the nice thing is that they serve "healthier" options than your regular Chinese restaurant. Lots of vegan and heart healthy meals as well. A ROCK in the FRIED RICE !!!!! We celebrated my daughter's birthday on Sun Dec 30 with take -out food from Nancy Chang's. We were sitting around the table eating when my husband took a forkful of the house fried rice and bit on something "as hard as a rock". He spit it out and not only was it as hard as a rock - IT WAS A ROCK!!!!! Needless to say we were shocked, at a loss of words, and did not eat another bite of Nancy Chang food. My daughter called Nancy Chang's and was offered a $25.00 gift card (on an order well over $100.). This was not acceptable and my daughter left a message to have the manager return her call. No one from Nancy Chang's returned her call. She called again this evening and was told the manager was too busy to talk with her. I went here twice. The first time the food was pretty good (I had the tofu hot pot), but the waiter was a little odd and not very knowledgeable about what vegan is (asked about vegan desserts and he said "well, they don't have any meat in them!"... no vegan desserts btw). Also when we handed him the thing with the signed receipt that says the tip on it he opened it and looked right in front of us and said thank you... Which I guess isn't too bad but I don't think you're supposed to do that as a waiter. The other time was very bad. We asked for all vegan food, ordered one veggie dish, one vegan shrimp dish, and one vegan chicken dish. BOTH the chicken and the shrimp were NOT VEGAN. This is really ridiculous. Luckily one of us wasn't really vegan and tasted it when it looked suspicious, but after we gave the shrimp back my boyfriend who is vegan tried the chicken because we didn't really believe they can get two dishes wrong. Well, guess what: they did. If I had tried either of them they would have faced a lot more trouble but it is still unacceptable! The waitress did apologize a lot but they didn't even take it off the check. There are people with allergies out there and we came especially for the vegan options and ended up with chicken and shrimp on our plates. I never had this happen to me anywhere else and it happened twice in one meal. Their waitstaff seems to be pretty clueless about veganism (and possibly the kitchen too), which is pretty ridiculous since they supposedly cater to the vegan audience. Never going back again. I never meant to come here. I doubted that there existed such a thing as healthy Chinese food, well, good, healthy Chinese food anyway. Also, the name seems more appropriate for a gym or something. Plus it has mannequins in front and I was unclear if they were a hallucination, accident or strange protest (against healthy Chinese food? the name?).. But I've now been there twice: once with gluten, once without. Both times were awesome. The first time I had the Peking ravioli apps (full of meat, just crisp enough) and mango chicken (just the right amount of mango taste in the sauce, fresh mangoes, lovely presentation). Sorry, I don't remember what my friend had but she liked it. The second time I tried the gluten free Hunan Chicken and my friend (different one, that's right I have two) let me try his spicy chicken (a sort of General Tso like dish). Just the right amount of stickiness which is often lacking when you cut the gluten. Suffice it to say, I highly recommend. It's in a converted old mill building (as opposed to a converted new mill building) full of interesting art and celebrity pictures. The staff is friendly and there's good gluten and non gluten options. I'll have to check out the vegan stuff next... maybe. read more

I give them 2 stars for the dinner buffet. It's your typical Chinese-American buffet. I came here with my co-workers because my employer was treating. If they didn't treat, I don't think I would have step foot into this place. I'm not a fan of Chinese buffets. I usually end up inspecting and poking around at the trays of food with a skeptic look on my face. My co-workers enjoyed the food but I've had better. I liked the garlic green beans, but the hot and sour soup had a strange after taste. This buffet is one star above Imperial Buffet which isn't much to brag about. read more

Let's start with the positive: the crab rangoons were delicious. There, that's it. We got takeout last night from here and there really isn't much to rave about. The staff wasn't unfriendly, but I wouldn't say that they were friendly either. They were indifferent at best. The Peking ravioli were largely flavorless and the vegetable pad Thai contained only carrots and onions. I guess that qualifies it as "vegetable." The sauce was nothing special on the pad Thai either. All in all a poor showing by a restaurant that, by all accounts, is highly regarded. read more

Great Chinese food, with a large variety of different dietary needs fulfilled (vegan, vegetarian, diabetic, gluten free, etc.). The mango chicken is probably their best dish, but almost everything is good. The service can be a little hit or miss, but we usually get take out. Oh Nancy! Why must you be such a fickle B!+@#? While actually owned and operated by a Mr. Chang; Nancy is most notably an upscale healthy alternative to the typical MSG and saturated fat laden excuse for Chinese food. Almost as notable as the healthy food is the severe attitude problem among the staff. I've pondered this many a time after eating here and as close as I can figure I really believe Mr. Chang just loves bantering with bitchy staff members. How else do you explain feeling as if you're bothering a hostess when calling in an order? Why else would an otherwise good restaurant continue to hire blatantly rude staff? The buffet is not worth it, the food is slightly overpriced, and the service is as I said sub-par. So why do I continue to go back? Honestly, sometimes I just want Chinese food and besides the fast-food type places there is not much choice in the area. Shame on you Nancy. Until next time... read more
