After a mid-to-bad experience at Cardamone Salon and Day Spa, my hunt for a new nail salon continued. PAINT caught my eye. I wasn't thrilled it's part of a national chain, but everything else I read gave me hope--it reminded me of my favorite place in Austin (LACQUER Luxury Nail Salon, a Certified Safe Salon that actually prioritizes nail health, safety, and ethics). PAINT's website made it seem like it might be in that same lane. First Visit I booked a Gel Mani & Pedi at $104 for 2 hrs 15 min to prepare for a second job interview I had coming up. Parking was an inconvenience--limited street parking on Liberty or one-way side streets. There was a back lot that I think you're allowed to park in but I couldn't find a space. Least favorite part of the whole visit. The salon itself is a little "IG basic," but clean, cute, comfy and mostly relaxing until someone burst on the scene and started exaggeratedly yelling and laughing with the receptionist. And I don't mean like, they shared a beautiful moment of joy that made me appreciate the place even more... I mean a solid 5 or 10 minutes of f#@k everyone else in the salon, it's all about us behavior. Still, Kalpana was the reason I enjoyed my first visit. She was kind, interesting, and welcoming, and she gave me a wonderful mani-pedi. My nails looked perfectly polished for my interview, and the price was in line with what I expected (actually a little less than what I paid in Austin). It feels so good to be home. But their claim about prioritizing nail health doesn't holdup. Kalpana used a coarse file to sand my natural nails before applying the gel polish. So I guess I'm at least partially to blame for what happened next ... Second Visit I had originally called to schedule a lacquer change for a fancy dinner I was to attend. If there was an option to do so online, I couldn't find it. The receptionist told me on the phone they scheduled it as a nail repair, but that we'd swap out the gel lacquer, just no nail shaping. My plans changed before my appointment and I asked at check in for a simple gel removal or, I suggested, upgrading to an Uptown Girl mani with gel removal, no new polish. Because I had already booked just that 3 weeks out to remove the new gel that I was no longer going to receive. They said no time, so I stuck with removal and asked her to cancel my upcoming Uptown Girl mani. The receptionist and I were clearly not on the same page though--they referred to it as a "nail repair" appointment, asking me which nail but I figured the stylist would understand, so I rolled with it. Ashley, my stylist this time, was... rough. It felt like they over-filed the top layer of gel, then failed to soak my nails long enough before beginning to poorly remove the lacquer with a coarse file on my natural nails. When they stopped mutilating my nails, they asked if I wanted them shaped. Sure. They filed the edges a bit, then declared we were done--residual dust all over my fingertips and patches of gel still visible. When I asked them to clean them up, I got a quick wipe down and the least amount of cuticle oil as humanly possible, applied to my nail beds. My nails feel as rough as a cat's tongue. The receptionist didn't ask how my service was, and by then I was out of f#@ks to give anyway. I checked out and left. When I got home, I went online to cancel the Uptown Girl pedi I originally meant to keep and discovered the receptionist had canceled it already instead of the Uptown Girl mani which was still on the books. And apparently you can't cancel online? So now I'll have to call. Had I known that, I would have done it in person. Final Thoughts If you're a basic bitch who's cool being gaslit about nail health (or anything else for that matter), then this place is for you. Otherwise? I'd steer clear. Kalpana gave me one great visit, but the overall vibe and inconsistency, not to mention the condition of my poor nails, means my search continues. read more

I love Paint! All of the staff is very friendly and the salon is so clean. They use clean-ingredient polishes so it doesn't smell like fumes or chemicals. I really like the Dazzle Dry polish that they use because it dries super fast and holds up like gel, but it's regular polish. I've had an amazing pedicure here! I've also taken my nieces and they do such a great job with wiggly girls that can't hold still haha. I experienced my first visit to the Paint Nail Bar today. I had made CC my appointment (s) for a manicure and a pedicure earlier in the week. The only way to make the appointments was online and required a credit card to guarantee the appointments. I could understand this policy and my account was not charged in advance. My first surprise upon arrival was an upcharge for my polish choice. I wanted traditional polish and two types were available. The regular priced polish had a few colors to choose from - the upcharged polish had many more color choices. The techs performing the services were quite good and I was pleased with the nail services. The pampering level was quite low for the cost of the services. I could have chosen additional services for additional fees. The pedicure chairs while comfortable were just regular chairs and the wash basins did not have jets or moving water. Overall, I would give the experience an 8.5 out of 10. Edited - I did not receive a sugar scrub during the pedicure. The tech did do a nice massage while applying lotion. read more

This salon is so pretty and bright and going to a fume-free nail salon is such a nice change of pace. From the minute you walk in you're not choking on the air and you don't leave with a headache. I was in town for a special event. I went to Paint for a gel manicure and a gel pedicure. The pedicure was fantastic. Definitely recommend that service. The manicure was a huge disappointment. She trimmed and prepped the nails, pushed my cuticles back and applied the polish. It was a cat eye polish and she struggled to make the magnet work. The cat eye was in all different directions and the finish ended up lumpy. She did not apply cuticle oil after or any lotion to my obviously dry hands. Worst manicure experience ever. Overall I was very disappointed, especially since they market themselves as a luxury service. Quite expensive for the service that I received. It was $47 for a gel manicure and my service barely took half an hour start to finish. The waiting area for the salon is very cute and the salon facilities are quite clean but showing lots of signs of wear and tear. My technician seemed to be in a rush and spent very little time on shaping my nails and cuticle care even after I mentioned my concerns. There was a lot of polish left on the skin around my nails, which I only noticed after leaving. I've gotten much better results for less, or even doing my nails myself. It's been about 27 hours since my "gel" manicure yesterday. It's literally peeling off. And on the nails where the peeling hasn't happened yet, it's got chips around the edge (might be hard to see in the photo bc of lighting, but there's chipping all along my right thumbnail). I'm guessing the rest will begin peeling soon. $40 for junk. Don't go here. They don't know what they're doing and are charging a premium for crap. I called and told them, wanting to confirm the right method of removing this junky polish. They say they "guarantee" the manicure for a certain amount of time. I cut the woman off before she told me how long it's "guaranteed" (longer than 27 hours, I hope) because: 1) I have no time for them to fix their crappy work, 2) even if I had the time, there's no way I'd go to them -- they couldn't do it right there first time. ********EDIT: Since Yelp won't let me respond to the owner's message below -- No, you can't make it right. I got them done for an event and there's literally no time to fix them. But, as I said, even if I had the time, I wouldn't go to your place. Also, a 10 day guarantee for gel says it all. A good gel manicure will last for weeks.******** More detail, the manicure itself was... Underwhelming. No lotion after, no hand massage, and the nail tech apologized about how dull her tools were, which made my cuticles ragged. I brushed the cuticle issue off at the time, but was annoyed about paying $40 for this place when they hold themselves out as more of a high end spot. Hilarious update: to get the polish off, all it took was putting my fingers in a little lukewarm water for about two minutes per hand. Not even acetone/remover. This is a really nice place! The staff was very welcoming and accommodating on my first experience. Linda did my mani and pedi and she took her time and I didn't feel rushed through at all. A week later my nails and toes look brand new still. She even asked if I wanted to keep the nail file and buffer which I thought was nice. My only small gripe is the chairs for the pedicure. My nail tech was ready for me to sit down as soon as I walked in, right after she offered me a mimosa or coffee! My favorite part about PAINT is the clean nail polish selection! I love using Dazzle Dry! I got a Talk of the Town Mani by Cameron, and was is truly a luxurious experience--including the paraffin wax massage. Would not recommend. Scheduled an appointment with one tech and upon arrival was told she was not available so they gave me someone else. Not sure if this person was new or what but the treatment took almost an hour and 45 mins and it looks really bad. (Totally fine if it takes that long and looks good.) I had previous gel on and I can still see the old color on the edges of my toe nails. Somehow the tops of my toes are stained with the old color too. My toes and heels are not smooth at all. She also filed the soft part of my heel and now I have a cut there. Lastly the tips of the nail were not painted. It's funny that the response receives says a manager will call me right away - I had to call several times in order to get a response. I went and got a gel x Manicure. The stylist seemed very nervous and new to gel x. They looked absolutely terrible when I left. I called and told them I was very unsatisfied with how they turned out after spending 90 DOLLARS! They got me back in that evening and I opted to have them remove the gel x and just do regular gel ($45) since I did not trust them redoing the gel x again. The gel turned out well and I was told the original manicure charge would be refunded and the redo would be complimentary. I ended up being billed for the original manicure ($90) and tipped extra on the gel manicure thinking it was complimentary ($20). I was told I could only get $30 refunded as this was the difference in price between the gel x and gel manicures. Overall a hassle, unsatisfied with the customer service after the fact and wasted several hours out of my day dealing with this. TLDR: I wanted to love this place as it's cute, everyone is super nice, and they have a 10 day nail guarantee. Rating 3/5 because despite getting my nails touched up once within the first few days, they're already chipping and only looked good for maybe 24 hours. I got my nails done Wednesday night for a wedding on Saturday. They gave me a heads up about their products and advised that some brands work better than others and it varies per person due to the companies only useing natural ingredients. I ended up using their 'Madame Glam' nail polish line. The experience itself was great - everyone very nice, they have a wide variety of complementary drinks, and were covid friendly. However, within 12 hours, 3 of my nails had already bubbled (see pics - looked like craters and I was told that it was because of the way the polish cured under the light and there being possible shadows so it didn't do it properly). I called first thing Thursday morning and they were able to fit me in before they opened on Saturday so my nails would be fine for the wedding. I was super appreciative that they were able to get me in and, again, everyone was super pleasant. However, today's Sunday and despite getting a touch up yesterday (2ish days into the manicure), additional nails have already chipped. The 10 day guarantee is nice for one off situations, but I don't have the time to go get my nails done 3 times in 5 days so I will not be getting the chipped nails touched up. I'm bummed because it was $52 ($42 for gel + $10 tip) and they lasted less than 24 hours looking nice. If I do go again, I will try a different brand and hope it works better w my nails. read more
