I was going to wait on this review, but I'm here sitting here trying to occupy my mind and eventually get some rest before my wedding tomorrow! I scheduled this appointment a few weeks back mainly because my fiancé had come here for a pedicure. I wanted to have fresh nails for my wedding and this was more convenient and closer than the nail shop I typically go to. I booked a morning spot, and it was 5min from my apartment. Perfect! Or too good to be true. I booked the first appointment for the day, and she was about 18min late. I received an "on my way" text at 10:02am. The salon was not very clean especially the shelf for me to place my hands to dry. While my nails turned out beautifully, my fingers are damaged. My skin at the nail was sliced open as she was talking and filing my nail with the machine tool (I don't know what's it called). Blood was running down the crevice of my nail. Then, my cuticle at the bottom of my nail was cut. So, whenever I wash my hands, my fingers burn. Overall, just not as professional as I would've hoped. Aside from the cuts, pretty good work. Definitely some over-filing. My fingers have never been this sore before. Timeliness; not great. I was supposed to end around 11:05pm, I didn't leave the salon until 11:50 which inevitably threw off my schedule for the rest of the day. I won't be returning here. read more

Scheduled a last minute appointment today for a fill and I'm very pleased! I got a full set from a different salon a few weeks ago and wasn't super thrilled with the price or my nails. I scheduled the first appointment of the day and she was late about 20-30 minutes coming in. I have never left a review before. i've never felt the need. but mia's service is SO unprofessional that i feel it's in the best interest of others for me to speak out. she is incredibly rude and is never EVER on time, you will be waiting at least 20 min past your appointment time. the shop itself is cramped, unorganized, and dirty. during my appointment, she LEFT to go get starbucks!!! and was on her phone texting guys! i was so shocked. she is VERY rough on the nails and left cuts on my cuticles. she cursed at me for moving saying i ruined them. then the nails came out VERY LUMPY AND MISSHAPEN. I was super excited to try out this nail salon after getting a recommendation from a friend and reading all the great reviews here. What really convinced me to come try it out was that Malia offered a gel polish without a manicure. I usually hate getting manicures due to sensitive cuticles and skin, and ask to skip that part so it was nice she offered a price ($15) sans manicure. While the polish itself was immaculately done, the filing was way overdone to the point where my nails were unevenly shaped and had been filed down to nothing. The sides of my nail bed were left raw and exposed. It would've been fine if she only filed them once, but after she had painted my nails, she filed them again?! The second time was overkill. I'm already dreading how long it's going to take for my nails to grow back in and whether they'll even grow in properly now since the sides were filed all the way down to the nail bed in some parts! I also found a gash from the filing on my pinky which resulted in me putting a bandaid on it and covering up my painted nail. I'm sad to say this isn't the nail salon for me, but hopefully others will have a better experience than me. read more

The nail salon is a quaint and nice place. A little confusing to find at first due to the sign placement of it and the other businesses in the same building. Malia is extremely friendly and open. She's also very funny as well, makes you feel like she's your friend from the very start. Prices are very reasonable able!However my only issue is with the quality of the nail. She puts on gel a little thicker than I like, which I can deal with. However I wouldn't say the application of all my nails are uniform or that cleaned up as evidenced by my pictures. Malia is amazing! I've gone a FEW other places for gel manis and hers is the best - I wish I knew about her before I went on the vacation where I got engaged! She is fun and funny and easy to talk to, it's like BSing with a friend. She does excellent work. I had no idea what I wanted (thought a nude) and she helped me figure out a good color which ended up being a GORGEOUS navy that I LOVE! Sometimes manis make me nervous because my cuticles can be sensitive, but she was gentle and no cuts! The shop is easy to find and clean. Lots of cute decorations, bright and pretty! I'm SO pleased. My friend who has never been there recommended Oakland Nails and I texted her as soon as I left and told her to go ASAP. Plus the price is at least $10 less than other salons and the work is as good if not better (in my experience better). Parking can be annoying now that school is back and she's right between Pitt and CMU, but I found a spot pretty easily on Friday night. My nails were done in a rush, and they're filed unevenly, there's dry nail polish bits under my nails, and they were sticky/wet and not completely dry when I left. Also not the shape or length I wanted. I had great service here once, and it's gone downhill since. Definitely considering S&T nails over this place. Now going to try and file my nails down myself to get the shape and length I want. Not pleased at all with today's service. I also had to wait 30 minutes after I scheduled my time. Was looking for a place in Oakland to get my nails done and took a chance on Oakland Nails. It was THE BEST and only place I'll get a manicure in Pittsburgh. Super great prices and one of the best gel manicures i've ever had! It was $25 for a gel manicure, $28 if you're getting old gel removed. Malia is really friendly and talks to you the whole time, makes you feel comfortable. Also, she runs the place all on her own!! She accepts venmo as well which is very convenient. Seems like the lady runs and owns this place on her own. Service is great and she was very kind. I got a manicure which was only $15. I would say some nail salons I've been to have done a better job with cleaning and painting but for the price this place is pretty good!
