White House salon has a sleek and classy vibe as soon as you walk in, and while I did not partake, there were complimentary refreshments available for customers while they wait. Then, my favorite thing about this salon, they offer different skill levels of stylists, and price accordingly. I had Layla as my stylist, and I couldn't be happier with the bixie cut I got from her. I had such a great experience at the salon! Mercy has an amazing personality and made me feel comfortable right away. I got a balayage done, and my hair turned out absolutely beautiful , the blonde color is perfect and, best of all, my hair wasn't damaged at all. I went to White House Salon this week for full highlights and had an awful experience. I paid $150 only to walk out with the same grown-out roots I came in with. I specifically asked for no toner because I didn't need it (I have naturally light hair), and I've gotten my hair colored in multiple states and salons over the years and have never once needed toner. It was clear they were just trying to upcharge me. When I mentioned at the end that the color looked too dark, they brushed it off and said it was only because my hair was wet--yet once it dried, it looked almost exactly the same as when I walked in. I ended up having to go to a different salon afterward to get the color corrected. On top of that, I could hear the stylists in the back talking about how I "didn't know what I wanted" and saying my hair would be damaged because I refused the toner. My hair is extremely smooth and healthy, so those comments weren't just unprofessional, they were completely unwarranted. I went about two years ago and, although the color result was good, my hair was the most damaged it has ever been, and I was pressured into getting toner then as well. I decided to give the salon another chance, but after this visit, I won't be returning. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with White House Salon for my wedding day. When I called to book, the receptionist was extremely friendly and accommodating, assuring me that the salon was perfect for bridal parties and that they loved doing wedding hair. Based on those conversations, I felt confident moving forward. Unfortunately, the reality was very different. I had requested a simple low slicked back bun, and I was told multiple times by the front desk that the style was so straightforward that it wouldn't require a trial. However, on the day of, my stylist arrived late, was visibly upset, and made comments about how he couldn't believe anyone would show up without a trial. He also seemed frustrated that he had to wash my hair, even though it still had oil in it from a facial the night before and I was told my appointment included wash and blow dry. Instead of feeling cared for, I felt like I had to cheer him up and manage his mood--an incredibly stressful and uncomfortable way to start my wedding morning. The bun did not hold up at all. My thick hair was secured with only a small plastic elastic and a handful of bobby pins, and it completely fell apart before the reception even started. Looking back at my wedding photos, it's clear my hair was coming undone throughout the day, which was heartbreaking.It felt intentional how poorly my hair was done. My bridal party also had issues. My maid of honors wanted simple blowouts. However, they had to completely redo their hair when they left. My mom waited over an hour past her appointment time earlier that morning. And my sister-in-law, who arrived 20 minutes late for her one-hour appointment (just wanting loose curls), was turned away entirely--even though my mom's appointment ran an hour late. The scheduling felt unprofessional, poorly organized, and inconsistent. I was quoted a lower price over the phone than what I was charged in person (though they did adjust it to the price originally stated). This was a huge shock given how much I had communicated with the salon leading up to the wedding. I spoke with them multiple times while booking and again the day before, yet on the actual day, there was miscommunication, disorganization, and a lack of professionalism across the board. And despite me calling after the wedding to speak with a manager privately, no one ever returned my call. At the end of the day, no one's hair looked professionally done and no one was happy with their experience or service. What should have been a joyful and pampering experience turned out to be stressful and disappointing. I would not recommend this salon for bridal services. read more

A pleasant staff member greeted me, helped me sit, and offered refreshing beverages. Tanya gave me a haircut, and I absolutely love it! She took the time to understand my preferences, work with my current hair situation to find what suits me best, and even teach me how to use the round brush. Jez, the assistant who washed my hair, was also wonderful and very skillful. It felt so good! It was also very easy to make an appointment. The entire process was very smooth and delightful. Excellent salon, if a bit expensive. I'm new from DC, and this place is a bit pricier than there. I was quite surprised. That said, the stylists I've seen are excellent. First, I chose Myra, because so many said she was good w/ difficult hair (that's me - crazy thick hair). She was great, BUT - they didn't tell me when I first booked the appt that she was about to move Florida! (Grr) But she recommended Flo (co-owner, I think?) to me, and I'm super happy so far. He does balayage - which new to me. I've always done foils. So far, so good - and you don't have to go back so frequently. He also gives a great haircut. If you want a balayage or highlights and you have dark hair, I don't recommend White house Salon. Flo did my hair, although I had consultation with him before the appointment, I didn't get what I wanted. I'm giving 2 stars because he listened to me well, took his time, did not rush, he did a great job with the cut, and he was very friendly. In consultation he said it might take 2-3 appointments to achieve the result (my hair was already bleached once, 3-4 months ago). However, after first appointment I was disappointed to see the result. I asked for "platinum highlights with more platinum looks at the ends and around my face" like the first photo. I explained the stylist that first photo is also my hair, which was done only with one appointment in Turkey that took 4-5 hours and application was done on my natural dark hair. However, here I got all brassy blonde, more like three colors on my hair (second picture), and looks like I got a full hair color and NOT highlights! Plus, it looks there are no highlights on the back of my hair too (third picture). I paid $388 plus tip for this. Flo said I need to come again for achieving more platinum looks for an additional ~$300! This is unfortunately unacceptable as the first appointment results were already poor. read more

Had a wonderful haircut experience! This was the first time I needed a haircut since moving to Pittsburgh, so I didn't have a place where I go regularly yet. I used the Yelp app to initiate a "conversation" and a got a bunch of messages from local hair salons. This one caught my eye and luckily I was able to schedule a same-day appointment. Selina was super nice and really listened to what I was looking for. She made sure I was happy with how it looked throughout the process and it came out way better than I had envisioned! All the customers were kept socially distant, required to wear masks, and provided a plastic rain poncho, shoe covers and gloves. read more

Went in for a balayage touch up yesterday and was very disappointed to come home and see a very streaky result. I understand my base hair color is dark so it sometimes is difficult to have a smooth blend but I have been getting my hair done for over 5 years now at different salons and have never had such streaky results. I'm not usually one to complain so wasn't going to leave a bad review however I then noticed that the pants I had been wearing had been completely bleached. I put these sweatpants on before leaving for the salon, walked to the salon and back so did not sit anywhere else but at the salon and returned to find them completely damaged. I tried to wash out (where the water mark currently is) but does not come out at all. 150 dollar sweatpants ruined and 320 dollar bad dye job has left me very disappointed and defeated. --- update, Tanya the business owner reached out to me proactively to amend the issue. She is refunding me the cost of my pants and offered to redo my hair at no cost. She has made great efforts in squeezing me into her busy schedule and has been very warm throughout the entire process! read more

Myra is an amazing artist. We both came to Pittsburgh from Cali and it was hard to find a colorist that can do the same processes you find there. Myra's specialty is a "root shadow" and I love it. The really impressive thing about Myra is that she is an expert at straight hair and curly hair. She gives amazing haircuts and she is a product expert. I wanted plumb colored hair and she was really great about making sure, choosing the best shade, making it semi permanent incase i didn't really want it after all, and in the end we both loved it. It grew out great, and I was blond again in a few months. I love that I can trust Myra to not only give me what I want, but have fun and change it up in a really strategic way. I went in here for a few touch up blond balayage highlights - I have fine hair and never get overall color. After 4 hours I ended up with foil highlights with botched color that was then bleached. My hair is now severely damaged (broken and frayed), the color definition is gone and there is an overall bad color. I honestly don't know how long it will take to regrow the damaged hair and get the color back to something more natural. The owner refunded the cost but the stylist did not listen, and the damage done is in excess of the price of the service. Definitely do not recommend. read more

Super considerate staff! Matt explained my cut very well and I appreciated his positive attitude and suggestions on how to make my hair look its best! The only set backs were cost as there were no products/heat protectant used on my hair prior to being blown dry and I do not believe conditioner was used while shampooing as there was only one round of rinsing. So I have been going to this salon about every 6 months for 2 years. Always loved my hair and thought it was worth the higher price tag. However, this last time I got a new stylist. I came in on a Satruday with already blonde highlighted hair. I wanted to go much blonder for my vacation that was in a few days. I told my stylist that I did not like ash blonde and I wanted golden blonde and that I hate ash blonde. I made this very clear. While drying the hair my hair was very ashy blonde. I asked when the ash blonde would go away if it only needed a wash or something and she said no that's just how it turned out. I was upset leaving the appointment but overall my hair wasn't terrible, just not the tone I wanted. So I called back when they opened on Tuesday and asked them to retone it because it was extremely ashy blonde and I wanted golden blonde. They said OK and got me in that day. I go in, and they retoned it but I guess they left it on too long because my hair was BROWN. She patch dried a strip and I asked her why it looked brown and where my highlights went. She said its literally impossible for my hair to be brown because it was just a toner. I was like OK I guess I will let it all completely dry and see. I came home and my hair was dry. My father asked me "WHY YOU DYE YOUR HAIR BROWN" because I just got it highlighted. I was BEYOND upset. I cried for an hour and called the salon and asked how I can remove this toner because my hair is brown. They were slow to get back to me and asked me to come in at 9 PM and she would stay to take the toner out of my hair and "fix it" AGAIN. I had a flight the next day and was already home so this was not an option, so they told me to wash my hair with Dawn Dishsoap. I did, STILL BROWN. Anyways the owner got in touch with me a few days later and I sent her photos of before my Saturday appointment, after, and then after the redone (MY HAIR WAS NOW BROWN) eventually she got back to me saying when I am back in Pittsburgh she will fix it. She was very kind about this situation. However, My friend I was vacationing with got back to NYC and tested positive for COVID. I was with her for the past 7 days and she was fully vaxxed and still got sick. I am in quarantine and waiting on test results. I told her that I cannot come into salon because of this and just want a refund. No response as of yet. If I am refunded I will not be as upset as I currently am. I know toner will eventually wash out but I have been overly washing my hair to wash it out which I HATE DOING and my hair is now dry. Also my hair was BROWN for my beach vacation that I paid a lot of money to have BLONDER for. Please also note, my hair was already blonde when coming in. This was the darkest my hair has ever been and I do not feel confident with this color hair at ALL. read more
