This place is awful. Dirty instruments, my polish color (which I picked 2 different ones) neither available so the technician grabbed the next number. I had chosen a medium purple, he put on a lavender. The color wasn't awful but once again the paint job was. I've come here time and time again, mediocre sometimes. Sorry, I can't even give one star. Listen ladies, - unless you have some sort of super acrylic nails, or thick crazy wonderful natural nails, don't let yourself be manhandled by this place. They use harsh metal spinning files. As anyone knows, if used incorrectly (in a hurry) this removal process ruins the natural nail. I use dip nails but same thing applies to gel. I had 3 men try and use this harsh metal round drill file. Yes, I kept getting passed around to all the men in this salon. The BOSS, doesn't like it if you don't like those metal drills. If you ask for a less harsh removal of dip using a gentle file, BOSS does not like it at all. Especially if he is the one trying a different file. But he likes to keep going down to the nailbed BEFORE he wraps! BOSS is really kind of a jerk. I asked him to stop because he was still spinning that file when he passed the polish and hit my real nail! - Then he told me to leave. Attitude! Won't recommend to anyone, nor will I be back! Update: So, I walked out of this Nails One Salon, I went to a salon not far away over the 40th street bridge with mostly women and had not one bit of trouble. They used a very light round drill file, quick, easy, light handed and wrap for 6 minutes and NO trouble getting dip nail polish off. TaDa! AND I still had my normal nail thickness. More color on my cuticles than skin, and he clipped my nails short when I specifically said file only to keep length. Then filed the heck out of my skin, just painful. Worst nail salon! The person left after placing foil with acetone on my nails to do a pedicure and take a break. She did not come back. My fingers started to hurt then finally a guy (who was in the middle of doing another girls nail) came over and quickly removed the gel and carelessly filed. I had a pedicure and none of the tools for clipping skin, scraping calluses, etc were sterilized. The woman took all tools from a dirty cup in her drawer and then put them back in. She put my skin clippings on top of my toes and the scrapings from the callus remover, she dumped into the tub water. No massage. Wrong color. It was just so unsanitary, I can't go back. I got a great pedicure from Amy on Saturday. I have never been here before, but I had a meeting near Hartwood Acres, and I saw that this was nearby. I called in the morning and scheduled a 12:30 pedicure. The nail salon was really big! There were probably 15 people getting services done all at the same time. I walked in and Amy took me right away. The pedicure was only $30 and took about 40 minutes. I was there a full hour so I could let my toe nails dry for a little. They had a good selection of colors, and also offered gel, dip, etc. Everyone there seemed to know all of the workers by name and were catching up with them like old friends. Amy was great! She was super professional and friendly. She made sure I liked the shape and color before continuing. Their prices are reasonable and I loved that I was in and out quickly. I also loved that it was very clean, and that they put the plastic cover in the pedicure tub. I definitely plan to return! Nails One in Shaler Plaza is hands down the best affordable nail salon in Pittsburgh. I have been going for several years now, and I won't go anywhere else (even when I'm desperate) for a couple of reasons. The main one being Mimi's skills! Mimi is fast but also a perfectionist. She gives the BEST pedi and gel mani massages of anyone ever. Her gel manicures look perfect when you leave the salon, and they stay perfect for nearly 3 weeks! I asked my tech to please come back (to the pedicure sink) to look at the mess of polish he left on the skin around my fingernails. He told me that it would wash off, but he did spend a few minutes scraping some of the smeared polish off with an emery board. But then he walked away and this is what I was left with. (the guy who did my pedicure took pity on me and spent about 20 minutes working on the mess with an emery board and made it a bit better - it wasn't HIS mess though and I tipped him accordingly for his patience and effort) I can't afford manicures often but this was for a special occasion and I have no idea what to do about getting the gel polish off the skin on my fingers and I am just really sad and upset about this experience. read more

I had been going to Nails One for several years and I was always satisfied, but I have to say that my last pedicure with Mimi was HORRENDOUS! First, she made me wait for 15 minutes in the pedicure chair while she flitted around to several other customers! She was clearly overbooked! I probably could of gotten over that, but when she worked on me so quickly that she cut my big toe, and never apologized that just took the cake! As if that wasn't bad enough, she filed my big toe down too far and it looked terrible! Then she didn't let my toes get completely dry and when I got into my car, I bumped my toe and the polish got all scraped! At that point I didn't even bother to go back in to the salon. I just left! Horrible service. The owner is unprofessional and completely rude!!! Picked a color and when he put it on I let him know that it didn't look like the color I picked and he was pissed off at me!!!! I grew up close to this salon and never started coming here until the past year and I absolutely love it. I am very picky when it comes to my nails and Tom, the head honcho here, does them perfectly every single time. I used to go to Sonny, his brother in law down the street, until he moved - at which time I was on the hunt for a new place, not realizing this was right under my nose. I originally came in last summer because I was in a nail catastrophe (yes, those exist) before vacation and Tom saved my life. I've been back religiously since then, every two weeks. I have only had Tom do my nails, but if for some reason he was unavailable, I wouldn't hesitate to go to the other techs, either. It isn't super fancy here, you won't be spending a ton of money for the high-end atmosphere and five star spa treatment, but they do a great job with fingernails & toes and pricing is great. I always call for an appointment (usually a day or two before) and sometimes I have to wait, but I never mind because Tom gets me in and out in about 30 minutes for my fill (and occasional toe polish change) and they never looked sloppy or rushed. I've had a time or two where I broke my nail being rough with it and he has fixed it within five minutes. They get busy, but they also genuinely care about their customers. Saturday afternoons seem to be their slower times, so if you're going to walk in - maybe call on your way there. 5 stars in my book :) read more
