Uptown Nails is the WORST! The new owner argued with me that I have gel nails. I said NO, Acrylic. She said no you have gel nails. We went back and forth, finally, I decided just to wait for the nail tech. The new owner told the tech gel nail. I'm just shaking my head. I sit down with the nail tech who starts working on my nails and she says you have acrylics, do you want gel nail? I said NO, I got tired of arguing with that lady. The tech says no problem and gives me an acrylic fill. Then I go to get a pedi. It's Mother's Day after all. So I get my pedi and then when checking out, the new owner takes my bank card into a corner with her back turned to me to process my payment. I'm wondering why isn't this card reader in front of me? So i leave. The next day, my bank notifies me that $835.00 worth of golf equipment was purchased on my card in Georgia! I call the Fraud number provided by my bank and they tell me that I've also signed up and paid for monthly shipments of Godiva Chocolates in New Jersey. There were also multiple purchases made through Amazon, all using my bank card. The absolute worst thing of all, is discovered in August. I HAVE A NASTY TOENAIL FUNGUS! I ended up having my toenails cut down to the moons because they had separated from my nail beds. It is the most disgusting thing I've ever had to endure. My friend, who is handicapped, and I went here last Sunday for manicures and pedicures. This was the worst experience I have had in a nail salon. The girl doing my nails cut my cuticle and made it bleed. I am on a blood thinner medication and it took awhile for the bleeding to stop. Not only that, my gel manicure, which usually lasts about 2 weeks, started to chip in 5 days ! I will never go there again. Also I noticed the place was not as clean and orderly as it should be. If you want to get in and get out this place is great but if you want to be charged a ludicrous amount when their prices online are nothing compared to inside and then argue with them over it-this place rocks. I used to come in all the time for a 30 min acrylic fill (which they say is $13 and "up"). This time around after being a consistent customer I was charged $19 bc she asked me if I wanted them "cut down" which took a matter of 20 seconds and I have never been charged before. I really like it here! Their Monday/Tuesday $25 mani/pedi special is a steal! I've never needed to make an appointment and I've never had to wait. Only complaint is that the gel manicure is insanely expensive (even if you just ask for gel polish), but there isn't any place around here that will do it cheaper, so it's not really a valid complaint. The market is the market. I've also gotten my eyebrows and arms waxed here and had no complaints. I asked the girl who was doing my eyebrows to take care not to make them too thin and to just clean up, and she did a great job! My mother and I see Eileen and Britney. Don't waste you money on anyone else there. They others always try to up sell you on on every service, even when you tell them 'No thank you', and it's hit or miss on the quality. Eileen and Britney do not push extra services and their work is consistently amazing, the best part in my mind is they speak English as their first language, so there is never any 'misunderstanding' on what you want, as has happen with others, before we discovered these two ladies. The tech tried to use her nail to dig under my acrylic to snap it off because its faster than soaking, even though she checked my nail and saw there was NO lifting or looseness at all. My friend has been getting her nails done here for 3 years and constantly raves about the work Aaron and Terry do. When I was visiting her last weekend, I needed a fill and luckily Aaron and Terry fit me in on Sunday. My experience was both good and bad. The good news is I got a $20 acrylic fill that included 2 nails with art. The bad news is, it looks like I had a $10 manicure done by someone who has never done nails before. The whole experience started off bad because Aaron was 10 minutes late. Not late because of another customer. Late because he wasn't there yet. Then he did my fill and paint in less than 20 minutes which is great except that it LOOKED like he only took 20 minutes to do it. It's one thing to be fast and good, but this was fast and terrible. Now my nails have acrylic that's hardened in the sides of my nail bed and underneath the tips. He cut large chunks of skin away from the tops of my fingertips that are now scabbing over 2 days later. He didn't even take the time to fully remove the polish I came in wearing. There is clearly blue polish in my cuticles and sides of every single nail. Then the nail polish he put on was horrible. Even though I picked an OPI color, he put it on really thickly so now it's bubbling up and looks like a hot mess. The only redeeming part was the nail art Terry did. It was beautiful and she did it in less than a blink of an eye. Unfortunately because the rest of the fill/manicure is so horrible, I need to go somewhere else today and have it all redone because I'm embarrassed to have people look at it. I'm so confused as to how this place got voted Best of Williamsburg for so many years. I showed my friend who is a regular the results and she was shocked at how terrible it was so I know I'm not being overly critical. Found this salon on the way back from Charlottesville from a girls weekend. We were ready to be home quite yet so we yelped the best nail salon in Williamsburg and found nails uptown. Best is an understatement, this place is GREAT! Update: my girlfriend just checked out and they charge her $20 for doing gel on her toes so it was $70 for a pedicure. NOT WORTH IT. So I initially came to Nails Uptown because they were close to where I live, their prices are decent, and when I called they actually said they did CND Solar Nails. Hallelujah! Unfortunately, they scheduled me with someone who doesn't work with artificial nails (mine is an acrylic overlaying my natural nails), but they were able to accommodate me with another technician who does Solar Nails. Yay! Needless to say, Aaron has been doing my nails for over four months now and I am always impressed. He has made some great suggestions on different techniques. There have been some scheduling snafus (I always make an appointment, but they had accidently triple booked him), but Jenny was quick to reschedule me and compensate me for my time. Ive been coming here for years and it is absolutely the best.The owner Jenny always takes great care of us and you can tell shes very good hearted and treats her employees very well. She runs a wonderful business single handedly and has terrific prices, it's very clean, they always use fresh brand new tools. The parafin wax pedicure is just to die for. They are great for parties and weddings and will even come to your house. I came in for a gel manicure this past Saturday around 11:30am. It was pretty busy but I was helped right away! They had a great selection of gel polish colors to choose from and they were helpful in helping me choose the perfect colors. I cannot remember the woman's name who did my nails but she was terrific! She was very meticulous in ensuring my nails were perfect (unlike some places where there are obvious mistakes/sloppiness). She even tried 3 different types of gold sparkling polish until she found one that would cover the nail without being too sparse. I went to get my nails and eyebrows done here the nail job was fantastic. But when I got my eyebrows done they ripped skin off and they have been hurting for a couple days now. They blamed it on my skin product but it was clearly not done properly because I've never had skin actually removed under and above my eyebrows before while getting them waxed. I have been to Uptown Nails several and more often than not had a great experience. I never have to wait as a walk in, because the owner keeps her shop fully staffed at all times. My favorite days to go are Thursdays, because it is their slowest day and very quiet! On Mondays and Tuesdays they offer a manicure and pedicure special for (I think) $25 or $35 dollars. On Sundays you get a free mimosa! And any day of the week you get a 15% discount off of your bill with a Yelp check in. The owner Jenny is very nice and always smiling wanting to keep her customers happy and coming back. My favorite Nail Techs are Haley and Katie. Great prices, great service!!! read more

My daughter and I had an appointment for two manicures and pedicures. But when we arrived they told us they were so busy! So they took my daughter for the manicure and I sat next to her no one came for me, apparently when you don't want color or you are sensitive to having your cuticles cut you are not worth a manicure. When we asked where was my stylist they told us laughingly when you only wanted the water bath and lotion, and we are very busy. Apparently they were because they hurriedly did my daughter's nails which where horribly done by the end. Then they moved my daughter to the pedicure station, now remember we had and appointment. They made sure to find two pedicure stations together, I had to go to the bathroom. When I came back I expected my station been feld with water but no. My daughter's pedicure had started and I sat there waiting. When I commented to my daughter that last time I had a pedicure I had had the paragon bath that the next lady over was having, because since I don't get color I spend the money on the special treatment. Well you should if seen them moving about to get me service, by now my daughter was done and I was not going to get my service for which I had an appointment for!
