The answer came as soon as the clipping process was underway and I was soon deeply grateful for being there. My attending "clipper" was awesome in many and all ways, making me comfortable at all times and answering all of my questions in a very clear and kind manner. I've been a customer here for about 2 years and have always felt rushed with my appointments. I have always been in and out in 15-20 minutes with a gel manicure. Other customers who are getting a gel manicure are there a lot longer than I am. On several occasions, my manicures have been sloppy also. If it was possible to give a negative 5 stars that is what I would do. Came in today to have acrylic nails removed. I was quoted $15. Then, charged $20. When I questioned the owner, she wanted to argue. She said, "you've been here for 45 minutes, do you want me to pull the cameras?" What type of aggressive, unprofessional, angry establishment is this? I think who ever regulates this type of business, needs to pay Uptown a visit. If a service takes 45 minutes for nail removal only, no polish, nothing else, this is a problem with the establishment and not the customer. Since Jenny left, the new management is rude and takes advantage of the customer at every opportunity. Not only was this meant to be a simple service, but the management is abusive and my nails are bleeding. Run as far away from this salon and be careful. I'm sure to be left with an infection. This is the last time I will ever step foot in this filthy disgusting place. Because once upon a time it was great and my 8 family members went there, and the location is convenient I returned. Two stars are only for Natalie who was very nice and working hard to keep the shop running smoothly. I've been here several times at the recommendation of others, usually for a pedicure, and have always had a so-so experience. Quality of your service depends on how busy they are and the tech you get. I've been getting dip nails done for about 2 years now, but took a break for the last several months after having my youngest child. I was unimpressed with my previous salon upon returning, so decided to try this place again since there were so many good reviews and it had been some time since I last had a set done here. After this experience I will never be back. I suppose my first mistake was going on a Sunday when the owner apparently is not there. They weren't very busy but didn't seem to have enough people working. I have never had such a rushed service in my life. For starters, as opposed to wrapping my fingers to remove my previous set, I was given a bowl with filled acetone and paper towels to soak my fingers in. This was really harsh on my hands and to breathe. I asked for almond shape, black tips, longer than what I ended up with. I am not sure who my service was with. She trimmed my natural nails almost to nothing before adding tips which I thought was odd. She added a dip powder base, before getting up 3 times and then telling me we would need to do gel tips over the dip...okay. She paints the nails, throws an exorbitant amount of cuticle oil on my fingers and tells me I'm done. The first picture is what I ended up with. Absolutely does not look right and the black polish was crooked. My hands were still covered in spots of melted dip powder from the acetone soak. Each of my finger tips were glued to my nails with powder underneath. My thumb nails were two completely different shapes. Some of my nails had indentations where they were unevenly filled. Cuticles untrimmed, hands dry, cotton stuck to my finger tips. Many of my natural nail edges were poking out under the tips. I spoke to Natalie who, despite telling me she saw nothing wrong with the results, did her best to fix the issue. I abandoned the concept of getting decent looking tips at this point and opted for black polish. Natalie cleaned up my hands and repainted my nails herself. Second picture is what I left with. Gel polish over dip powder - not ideal but doable. With tip, I paid $60 to waste an entire afternoon on what was supposed to be a 1-1.5 hour trip, and did not even leave with the product I wanted. I fixed the shaping and trimmed my own cuticles. 4 days later I have now had a nail break. A pinky nail, at that. Even after 4-5 weeks in one set I have never broken a pinky nail before. Decided to take a chance on this place because it's conveniently next to work. When we walked in the appearance was not bright or clean. We went towards the back where the pedicure chairs did not look very well taken care of. The pedicure was very unconventional, the gel polish was done before the scrub down and the nails are not clipped and trimmed to detail, they are all Crooked and didn't file!! . The gel price was an extra $15 which is a little extreme. I understand that there has to be a recoup of cost due to Covid but that is just a bit much. The pedicure being $45 is too much. This place has great ownership but you are definitely treated differently if you are Black. My feet were washed with dirty water. Some of the tools typically used in the pedicure process were skipped over and after I asked the person who was designated to do my nails, to wash her hands after rubbing all over her nose, my toe was accidentally stepped on and my fingers were being touched roughly and I didn't appreciate the service. Won't go back ever. I stopped coming here over a year ago for similar reasons, thought I would try them again in a crunch but your money must spend different here if you are Black so come here at your own risk. read more

I took my mother in law, niece (19) and my daughter to get our nails done. My mother in law and I were getting dip, my niece got acrylics and my daughter (11) was only getting color with a design. The lady started soaking my daughter's nails and then another customer came in to get her nails done and the lady came and took the bowl from my daughter and said she would do her later. I had been going to Nails Uptown for two years but yesterday was my last. My mom and I went in to get a manicure and pedicure when we sat down my mom told them she was allergic to the nail polish but would still like the other steps...they completely ignored her and Jenny the owner laughed at her and made jokes when it was clearly embarrassing for my mom. The lady doing my nails rushed through the whole thing, did not listen to a single request I asked for shape on my nails and did not clean or cut my nails. Since we were getting a pedicure as well and that's what my mom really wanted I decided to stay and do that instead of leaving (big mistake). Once again they ignored my mom and when I asked when she would be helped the lady responded they were busy...but there were several ladies standing around. I decided not to get my toes painted and the lady tried to keep changing my mind. In the end, they charged me $57.00 for dip nails, a pedicure with no paint and got no apologies. read more

My sisters and I visited here for the second time. We were in a girls trip and wanted to get pedicures in an establishment that was clean and used the required precautions for COVID. Since our first visit three years ago was great, we decided to try them again. We were delighted that this facility was still providing quality service and adherence to CDC guidelines. All four of us were serviced together and all tools used for the pedicure were new and opened in our presence. The foot baths were freshly prepped in our presence to include fresh tub liners for each foot bath. Clinicians all wore face mask and gloves. We watched them dispose of the instruments used for each pedicure and the re-cleaning of the stations which included the entire pedicure chair. It is worth our taking the hour drive again in a few weeks just for a pedicure. Keep up the good work and care you show your customers Nails Uptown! read more

I've been here quite a few times over the years and have never been disappointed with the service -- even when it was super busy, which it is pretty frequently! My sister made and appointment for us and our other sister right when they opened about a week ago, and they absolutely exeeded my expectations! I believe Mia did my nails, and she was gentle and efficient, making sure I was comfortable while also doing her best to carefully do my nails with the reference photo I gave her. :) Definitely will be coming back here with my sisters once I get back to VA! I've gone here three times hoping it would be as good as the reviews claimed and each time i've been disappointed with my nails. I got my nails and feet done for graduation and my pedicure came out wonderful. The man who did them was very nice and gentle. For my nails I was sent to two different people. The first man actually put and filed my acrylics where I asked for short almond shaped acrylics and a french tip. The guy did a great job the woman who actually did the french tip seemed to be in such a rush. My nails were very bumpy, the polish seemed a little dry coming out of the bottle and to top off it while trying to just pay and get out of there the women at the front even noticed and put on an extra coat of clear coat. There is still paint around my fingers very much not worth $70. read more

I have had bad experiences at many nail salons so I was looking for a really high rated one so I could get my money's worth and have good nails. At first it started out awesome. I was going there to get my nails filled every few weeks and as time went on, they got worse and worse. I was paying 40-50 for nails that were uneven and lumpy. I asked for ombré one time and they left my nails with small bubbles in them and let me leave the salon like that. I will insert pictures but I do like they staff. Horrible. I got the deluxe pedicure because I had regular dead skin, no calluses anywhere as I get regular pedicures. She poorly filed my toe nails and barely touched the blue scrubber to my heel. When I asked about the grater she said no, only with the callus remover. I'm liked I'm getting the deluxe, not regular and that should warrant the grater since the blurb in the menu clear says smooth, soft skin as part of the service...and after your blue scrubber my heels are still rough and there's dead skin on the ball of my feet. I went ahead and used the grater myself. The massage and paint job...sigh...the pic shows how bad the filing was done as the paint isn't smooth. You guessed it, I won't be back. read more

I absolutely love nails uptown. My fiancé and I went for mani/pedis and it was quite the treat. The staff is super nice and accommodating. The pedicure was EXTREMELY relaxing. We had the organic spa pedicure and afterwords my legs and feet felt sooooo smooth. They also did a great job making sure we were comfortable. First nail salon I've been too that has an array of drink options (wine, water, smoothies). My nails and toes look absolutely fabulous. Will DEFINITELY be going again next time I'm home. read more

It felt a bit rushed as if she wanted to hurry up with my nails and move on to the next person. My nails looked good other than a bit of unevenness in length. They didn't last long as they started to bend and break on Sunday, but at least they made it through prom I guess even though my first manicure (at a different place) lasted about 2-3 weeks.
