This was my 4th time going to Artistic Nails. First time I was not happy with how my nails turned out at all but tried again with a nail tech who was recommended to me. My 2nd and 3rd time I made appointments with said nail tech and both times I waited over 30mins to be taken regardless of making an appointment and the second time with her, she didn't even end up doing my nails because she was so far behind. This last time, I decided to give them one more chance and be given a random nail tech. While the service was okay, I got my nails done on Friday afternoon and by Sunday night the gel was already starting to lift from almost every finger. I got chrome for the first time and it came to $50. Not worth the money at all. The chrome makes it harder to see the lifting because of the reflections but I attached a photo regardless. read more

I had frequented this salon in the past when living closer to it for a short time. When my tech for over 6 years went on a sabbatical, I decided to try it again, since it still had some good reviews. I was not impressed with my visit. I just wanted a fill, it took over an hour, and when I got to the register it was over $51 with a supposed discount included. I asked the tech, why did she charge me for 3 repairs. I know one had "lifted" a little but she did not remove a nail nor replace it with a new tip, so how are you charging $15 for those three nails when you are filling them in the same way you did the other 7??? Also, you should communicate that to the customer if they are going to be charged before proceeding. I also asked to see the price list, (twice) which is not posted anywhere, it's in a book, that she finally showed to me after painting. This should be clearly posted so folks know what they will be paying and/or if they want to pay those prices. I came in with a photo of a design I found on Pinterest and she recreated it beautifully! So let me tell y'all about this nail shop, "Artistic Nails" in Williamsburg. We came in to make an appt yesterday with Ann. Came in today for the actual appt and Ann was not here, so she didn't do our nails. The guy at the front was very pushy on trying to get us to go to someone else. We asked where Ann was and he was like, "She's not here, she'll be here in 5min." Ann did not show up at all, the whole time that we were in the shop. I went to Ashley, she was really good and paid attn to detail. The shop is expensive. They say they ONLY do gel polish, when the box that the polish comes in, it has regular polish and gel inside. The guy who did my mom's nails (he sat at the 1st station on the right) was very sneaky and was a liar. My mom has longer nails so we know they will be a lil bit higher for longer nails. However, this guy proceeds to take her polish off, never tells her the cost for longer nails. My mom asks about the cost for the fill, designs and regular polish, he says we only do gel. And for the design, depends on how crazy, show me a picture and I can tell you. Who doesn't know how to freehand some abstract design and what the cost is??? She asks how much the fill-in was, he says $45 and $15 extra for polish!! So my mom paid $45 for the small bit of acrylic used to complete a fill-in!!! No polish, not even clear.. No oil.. No lotion!!! He wasn't even trying to reshape her nails.. OUT-FREAKIN-RAGEOUS!!!! It's not like you are using $45 worth of product to complete a fill-in. When we got in the car and she explained this to me, I went back in and asked why the fill-in wasn't completed with polish?? He said because polish cost $15. I asked for a manager, she was no better! Instead of trying to rectify to situation with at least a clear coat of polish, she too tried to push for us paying $15 for polish. The shops at home included polish in your service. I WILL NEVER PATRONIZE THIS SHOP EVER AGAIN! THEY SUCK AT CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS AND THEY ONLY DESIRE YOUR MONEY! The price gouging is OUTRAGEOUS in Williamsburg nails salons!!! NEVER AGAIN!! I'll stick to what I know. I should've went to the 1st shop I called and tried them out. However, this experience shut it down for EVERY OTHER NAIL SHOP IN WILLIAMSBURG FOR ME. If I could've given NO STARS, I would've done it. On top of that, if you pay in cash there's a 5% discount but they add 3% if you pay with your card. I paid with cash and the guy (same guy who did my mom's nails) didn't try to add the cash discount. I had to mention it to him. The sign is off to the left of the register on the wall, so if you don't pay attention or say anything you will have an added fee to your final cost. *I paid in cash, put my money in the gentleman's hand and he laid my cash on the counter. I had to tell him, respectfully, if I put it in your hand, you should return it to the person's hand.* Again, If I could've given NO STARS, I would've done it. read more

This was my first time at this nail salon and I was very pleased! A coworker suggested I go to Anne, but she was unavailable so her sister did my services(didn't get her name). I got an overlay with one tip(broken nail), gel polish, and the lemon pedicure with gel polish for $85. The pedicure was $33, but I don't know the prices for everything else. From the reviews, I guess I expected better -- I stopped in for a pedicure earlier this week. Although the sign indicated walk ins were welcome, the staff certainly didn't seem happy to see me, or the woman who walked in after me. I was informed it would be a 30 minute wait. There were all of three technicians in the salon, despite the fact there are at least a dozen stations. Maybe they were planning on a slow day, I don't know. Anyway, at any other salon if I've been asked to wait for someone to become available, they at least run me a hot bath so I can soak my feet and read my book while waiting. Not here. I basically just sat on an uncomfortable chair in the lobby section for 30 minutes until someone saw fit to start a station for me. When they finally did, it was a disappointing chair with not great massage capability and the water was luke-warm at best. Once I finally got a nail tech, she was pretty efficient and did a decent job which is the only reason this is a 2 star review instead of a one. She did fall into one of my pet peeves though which is when they drop the scrubbers or other things in the water bath while your feet are still in there. Like I need random tools banging up against my legs while I'm trying to relax! Anyway, I highly doubt I will visit this location again. For the price ($25), I can't complain too much -- but I know at least three other salons nearby that charge the same or less where I've had much better experiences. read more

This is absolutely the worst manicure I've ever had since I've been getting manicures for over 30 years. My nails were left bumpy from the old gel being left on she cut my nails all the way down to nothing. She soaked my hands in acetone to remove the gel polish gave me a cotton ball in the bowl and I was left with a sticky white residue and fuzz all over my hands. Had to scrub it off with more acetone. WORST NAIL EXPERIENCE EVER! I went to get my nails done and toes done for vacation the day before I left. First they made my nails soooo thick then I ended up paying $70 the same price as my friend paid for a brand new set when mine was a fill. I don't mind paying if they did a good job. All the salons in Richmond dont do very good jobs. I came here and was very satisfied, very clean and neat, i got exactly what i wanted.

I booked an appointment for getting a mani/pedi done for a wedding, with the plan of getting just a regular nail polish, not gels. My nail artist was adament that I would want gels, though I mentioned I work outside a lot and they only need to last a few days before I want them removed. I have had gels before and never liked how they feel, but she promised a discount. However, at the end she said the discount was only for gel polish and no long nails, so it didn't count. The gel nails I did get were not even the style I asked for (they were long and square, not short and round-top) and pulled off my nail after 1 day. When I tried to make an appointment at the end to get them removed, they just gave me a card and said to call them later. Needless to say, I will look for a different place to get them removed. read more

What a wonderful salon: clean, busy but properly staffed, and they deliver a quality service, which doesn't always happen in nail salons. Called on a Saturday morning, expecting to have to make an appt later in the day, but they fit me in within 30 minutes. Was greeted professionally upon arrival and the staff was fully prepared for the service I needed. Listening to the customers, many traveled a minimum of 20, and as many as 60, minutes to this salon, specifically, and that says a LOT. Opted for the jelly pedi, which was new to me and felt mushy between the toes, in the most delightful way. Loved the atmosphere, the staff and the service! Go here if you want nail fungus! My friend and I went here for the first time about a month ago. We both got gel manis and regular pedis. The gel manicure was extremely thick and sloppy. The pedicure seemed fine. Fast forward a week I remove the polish from my toes and find white spots on all over my nails, and my nails are brittle. I have never had anything like this happen before. I thought to myself no way I caught fungus from the nail salon. So I called my friend who immediately removed her nail polish to check. Same exact thing happened to her. It's disgusting. Please save your money and don't go here. I have gotten gel manicures for many years and never had one as bad as this one. It looked like my nails had grown out and I needed a fill after it was over. I was in complete shock. It was uneven, not painted well, and full of bubbles. Polish covered my hands and when I asked for it to be removed I was ignored. When I paid I asked the person at the front if this was normal and he tried to fix it but it was already set in the gel. The manicure began peeling in about 3 days (look at the pictures to see how it was painted over my cuticle in some nails.) There are so many better places in Williamsburg (City Nail, Newtown Nail.) I came here without an appointment when another place couldn't fit me in. A mani/pedi was only $30, which was awesome, but I didn't have high expectations for the quality. I ended up loving my experience in there. The salon is pretty basic, nothing high end looking, so you don't really expect much. There seemed to be a lot of regulars in there, though, which was promising. It's now a week later and my manicure is still perfectly intact! I almost never get to say that, so I'm super happy. Very disappointed. I tried this place for the first time. My nail tech was Jenny. She shaped my nails badly (round on one side of the nail, square on the other side..., one hand is a different length and shape from the other hand, jagged edges that catch on everything, etc) I am also confused about she didn't use the drill around my cuticles, so after a few days of growth they are catching and lifting. Jenny told me to go wash my hands and when I was done she had someone else in my seat and told me to pay at the register. He was very nice, but he kept trying to sell me higher priced services and when I refused he rushed the service I was paying for. I got a manicure and a pedicure. He soaked my hands for less than a minute, didn't push my cuticles back, and didn't put any lotion or cuticle oil on my hands or feet. Also, they charge an extra fee (service fee) if you pay with a card. There is a cost to doing business and if a business wants to take credit cards, they should pay the fee. Where does it end? Are they going to start charging a portion of the light bill or maybe a fee. The prices here are already a little higher than other places, which wouldn't bother me if the service was better. I was a little hesitant at first because of some of the bad reviews. Most other places are closed on Sunday and I really wanted to get my nails done. They opened at 12 and I got there about 2:30. I only had to wait about 15 minutes. I was set on getting a full set of acrylics. When Tan sat me down he answered all my questions. I haven't had my nails done in years. I've always done them myself. I wanted to treat myself. He asked if I wanted gel polish or regular and he answered my questions about how long it would last. He looked at my nails and they are damaged from years of fake tips. They were thin and brittle. He suggested dipping powder and explained how that would be better for my nails and to help them grow and heal. I agreed with his suggestion and couldn't be more happier with the results. One of my thumb nails was short and broken on the side. He used a tip to make all my nails look even. I will definitely be going back for more services and a pedicure too!! Waste of money. I went in for medium length acrylics and left with weird lumpy uneven nails. The woman who did my nails left acrylic under my nails and didn't even bring the acrylic all the way to my cuticles. There's a gap that makes it look like they're grown out even though i got them 2 days ago. In between clients THEY DIDNT CLEAN. I watched the woman next to me leave and the manicurist brush away her nail shavings and invited the next client. He didn't even change the towel that they were laying their hands on.
