Cheating on my nail tech; since she can't be found...

First time going here for service; I Saw Helen in a pinch as my usual go-to spot was apparently closed for the last two days. I called and was seen relatively close to the apt time, shy a few min. Helen (the owner) was who I requested; as I had made a note once in the past should the moment present. The place has been around for years and caters to the community that it serves (a bit hood-y). While this location is not my preference; I was relatively pleased with the outcome of her filing and shaping on my Gel full-set and pedicure; She oscillated btwn customers for brows, but I wasn't in a hurry. They also do lashes here, I'm told --$35 for a natural long set, if that's your thing. I asked someone before and heard this is the place to go if you're looking for relatively inexpensive lashes 35 vs say 300. This is a busy spot that's been around for 20 yrs, I'm told... so if you're okay with the 'hustle and flow vibe' at a low key, hood spot. You'll be alright. Ask for Daniel; Swan or Helen for nails/ nails & lashes (it's a family business.

Nails...okay. But lashes HELL NAW. I came here because I met a lady at the store and her lashes looked amazing. She said she got them done here and I asked her specific questions about her experience. "Do they glue your eyelashes together?" "Do they glue your eye LIDS together?" "Do they pull your lashes?" All in which she answered no. She specifically said to ask for Swan or her mother. So I asked for Swan. I came in for my appointment and waited in the chair about 10-15 minutes, cool I don't mind a little wait. I'm understanding. So when she came over I asked her questions about the lashes sizes, etc. When I tell you all the "nos" to my questions I asked turned into "Yeses" for my experience? My lids where glued together, my eyes where watering relentlessly, my lashes where pulled out and all under 15-20 minutes. It was definitely too good to be true. My lashes where glued together, I couldn't brush through them at all. I even asked the lady is this normal? She said yes it feels like that for the first couple hours...this sh** lasts alright, lasted 2 weeks with all the glue that was used to pack it on. After a couple days they became real itchy and some where even scratching/poking my eyes. I don't know if this is even legal or up to code LOL I finally couldn't take it anymore and had to come in to get them removed. When I told Swans mother about my experience she laughed at me and turned her back to me and discontinued the removal of my lashes, said whatever in whatever language and moved on to 2 other costumers and left the removal solution on my eyes. This is my face...my eyes I use to see the world I don't find it funny at all. On my way out there where 3 girls who where there waiting to get their lashes done so I asked them "do your eyes itch?" All three said yes. "Do they scratch your eyeballs?" All three said yes. I mean people come back for this service, I can't...not even for $45 this was the worst. I guess for $45 that's what you get. Never again. You want painful cheap lashes?! This is you place sweeties.

Been going here for years. Swan does my nails and lashes. She does a great job. I like how she puts the lashes outside my natural lashes.

They took a group of us last minute. We felt so pampered and had so much fun with them! My daughter found an inspiration picture online and they did them exactly like the picture! We will definitely be going back!

I went to Nghia and received great service and loved the outcome of my nails. Very clean environment definitely recommend.

If you want your lashes done, don't come here! I was looking to get my lashes done for an affordable price and was recommended by a friend to come here and one thing is for sure, they may be affordable ($40), but they sure are some crap. First of all, they only took 10-15 min....?? when they should take anywhere from 1-2 hours. The lashes are cheap and stiff with what I think is glue, the girl put something on them to curl them at the end; I cannot comb through them, and they are not at all wispy, soft and natural like the picture I showed the girl for reference. The most outrageous part about this is that these lashes are glued onto my eyelids!! My eyes are dry, watering relentlessly and are hard to close, and it's been hours now since i got them done. I only gave them two stars because they're not the worst i've seen but they are not quality at all. But I guess you get what you pay for. It was too good to be true.

    The smudged nail So disappointed.

I was a customer here for years when I lived in the area. I decided to stop in for a quick manicure and it was terrible. First of all, I am sad to see the place so dirty. I never remember it being that filthy. Secondly, after my manicure (which did not include a hand massage), I sat under the dryer for 4 cycles even though I was told to sit for two. I asked the guy to check them to make sure they were dry. As soon as I got out to my car, the polish on my thumb totally smeared when I put my seatbelt on. I went back in and asked to get it fixed, and they would not fix it unless I paid $4. The money was not the issue, it was the principle. I just tipped the guy 50% and he wanted to charge me? No thanks. I will NOT be back again.

Third day, and already needed redone. What a waste!

Fool me once... The first time I visited Nail Works in November, I went with my other half so that our appendages could look immaculate for our trip to South Bend (Go Irish!) One of the things I adore about pedicures is taking the time to relax and enjoy, especially when I can get him to go with me (which only happens about once a year!) However, that wasn't the case here; because they rushed through mine so quickly to move on to do my nails. I take care of my feet at home, so I know there really wasn't the need for a bunch of filing, scraping and such... but I barely got the chance to sit down before he was putting the flip flops on me to paint them. While I am very used to the incessant up-selling and adding on of services at usual at nail salons, this place takes the cake! They were even charging extra for services usually included at all other places I've been. For instance, I noticed the lady doing my beau's feet was barely putting any effort into it, moving a pumice stone to and fro for a few strokes and acting like that was all she was going to do. When he asked if she could get the dead skin off she missed, she told him that would cost extra. Sheesh! The usual scrubs and foot/leg rubs that have always been standard at the salons I've been to? Forget about it. If you're looking for more than a quick luke warm soak and a few swipes of a pumice stone, expect to pay more than the advertised price for a pedicure here. I got a gold shellac manicure done, and usually my hands look AWESOME after these and I can't stop looking at them... not the case this time. So disappointing! And you know that lovely feeling of just having had a pedicure, when your feet just feel heavenly? You won't get that here, either. The only positive about the visit was the guy who did my nails was easy to talk to and an avid football fan, so the conversation was interesting and not uncomfortable as it can sometimes be... so the one star was for that. We ended up spending over $100, and you couldn't even tell we'd just had our nails done. Such a waste. Shame on them. Fool me twice... The second time was last week; I was on my way to an important meeting and really wanted to get my nails done before hand. Since it was the only place I knew of on the way, I thought I would give them a second chance. After being so disappointed in the shellac manicure last month, I opted for a set of gel nails, with a French manicure... which I typically always love! However, I was once again disappointed. There were several smudges and uneven lines on the white tips, and though I let her see them, she ignored it and gelled right over them. I really hate smeared and uneven French manicures, even more than I hate rushed pedicures. Again, no frills here, like the usual lotion and hand massage. I was irritated and left in a hurry, and once I got into better light I noticed not only were the tips done poorly, but the gel didn't even cover all of the nails fully. There were giant matte spots on most of the nails where she didn't spread the gel to cover (even on the tips!), and the manicure looked very amateur (not at all like $40 set). Not surprisingly, the white tips started to chip away the next day, and by the third day the manicure looked like it was two weeks old already (see pictures) and it wasn't from excessive wear. If anything, I babied them... ("Honey, I can't do the dishes! I just got my nails done!"). It's now been a week today, and I've already had to have them redone. Shame on me. I won't be fooled again.

The first manicure I got here was a dip one and it lasted three weeks before I decided to change…read morecolor! It looked great and was obviously long lasting. It was time for a new manicure and out of convenience I went to a salon in the mall. That was my first mistake. I should have known my nails were going down hill from the way that tech removed the dip. She basically just ripped the old polish off taking the healthy top layers of my nails with it. The mall manicure lasted a mere few days before chipping because she layered it so thick, maybe to compensate for my now weak nails. I should have made my way right back to Allure, but alas I went to a different salon later, again out of convenience. They gave me a better manicure but it still chipped and she also was a bit rough removing the polish. I didn't get nearly the two week wear I should have before the polish began to pull away from my nail and chips began to form. After two not so great experiences I came back here. I believe the tech who did my nails was the owner, and commented on how weak they looked, so I told her they removed the polish terribly elsewhere last time. When she took the polish off she took her time to make sure it was done the right way instead of just rushing it to make time for more clients. No cutting corners. She shaped them well, applied the polish so pristine, and made sure that they were perfect before I walked out. They also include a paraffin wax treatment every time and it feels so good! That's just the beginning. Now to the part of this whole experience that compelled me to write a 5 Star review; I noticed a few days later that the charge posted twice to my card. I think it might have been because her daughter (I think?) who was helping out in the salon ran the card. I could tell she was figuring out the machine, and by accident it charged the amount before tip, then the amount that I put down after tip. Two charges posted, one for $39 and the corrected one with tip of $47. Mistakes happen though, so before going to the card company, I called the salon to see if they could fix it. I left my name and number (owner was with a customer) and the owner called me back as soon as she was done. It was within 30 minutes. I explained and she immediately worked to remedy the problem. She removed the $39 charge, was in communication with me about the process, and even texted me a photo of the refund receipt showing that it was taken care of. Not only do they provide a great service with much better value than other salons in town, but the customer service and atmosphere is far superior. I won't be going anywhere else to get my nails done as long as I am in Annapolis. Allure is the best and their good company ethic shows. Thank you!

I first came in on 2/15 to get an Annapolis pedicure with gel polish. At first I was very happy used a 10% off first visit from Annapolis moms mention and despite the receptionist making a mistake and charging me someone else balance then changing me a second time to make the difference, that was not a big deal to me. Came in 6 days later to get a basic manicure with gel before my vacation to Hawaii which was 5 days later. Less than a week later (a day after I got to Hawaii and not even touched the beach yet) my toe nail polish had flaked off and my nail polish was catching on my hair. I messaged the salon via DM instagram and they said I could come in no problem when I came back from vacation. Here's when it all went downhill: I meant to say I could come in March 15 (get back the 6th but weekends only work for me getting my one year old watched) however I put the 8th, this was not scheduled as I never received a text confirming the date which would've helped the confusion. The 15th comes and I go in thinking I'm getting my nails fixed, nope! They are too busy and I have to come another day so I say I guess I could come back 3/15 (exactly one month from my first visit). When I arrived I wanted to clarify before getting the service that they were fixing this and I would not be charged for it yet I'd still tip. I got attitude saying at this point my nails would need to be redone but this one time (said multiple times) they will do it. I have never been so disrespected in a business before in my entire life. My heart was pounding and my leg shaking the entire time, honestly I wanted to walk out of here after she started. The tech wasn't going to cut my long nails and when I asked her too she shook her head and said "well of course they are long it's been over 5 weeks". Despite the disrespect I still tipped her $8 for 30 minutes of work of doing my nails and toenails, crazy. My nails are still slightly bumpy along the tips and chipped on the thumb nail chipped only 12 days later. For the price I'd expect more, better massage, definitely better service/experience, and for the gel polish to last longer. Never had gel last so little of time. Very disappointing!

I also appreciate that they've stopped charging extra for certain nail polishes. The foot exfoliator they use is fantastic. I've noticed some inconsistencies with the Uptown Pedicure service. My first visit was great -- exactly as described, with a scrub up to the knee, paraffin wax, and a lovely extended massage. That's what convinced me to make the drive from Baltimore to Annapolis for a repeat visit. But on my next few visits, those steps were skipped entirely. I even reached out to the contact listed online, but never received a response. I decided to give it another try this past week, hoping my previous experience was a one-off mistake. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The same abbreviated service again. I also got a gel manicure this time. The nail tech was super sweet and friendly. The dry cuticle care left my cuticles shredded. The description of the gel manicure mentions a lotion massage, but what I received was just a few drops of cuticle oil after curing the polish -- definitely not the same thing.
