I have been coming to Mai's for years and this is by far one of the best nail salons in Maryland. The salon is very clean and professional. I always have great service and love the finished product every time. I have been to many different salons and tried them out and this one is the best. For those who are complaining about "the wait" for drying nails and etc. they need to realize that getting your nails done is a service for you and it takes time for the polish to dry in order to paint the clear finish coat. If they don't want to wait the they need to make an appointment. Not only are my nails perfect when they finish but they last for at least 3 weeks as well. It depends on how you take care of your nails and how fast they grow. Everyone that does my nails does a great job and I know this will be my spot every time. read more

I had gel on my toes when I went in and asked for a pedicure with gel.. They did not state there was an additional charge to remove the gel ($5) or that there would be an additional charge on top of the pedicure for gel ($15) which is a typical practice, so not a big deal.. but frustrating as you should be upfront with pricing. So make sure you ask first for the full price. If it were just that issue I wouldn't be writing a review...But then, once sitting, typically you are given a 'menu' of pedicure to choose from. When I realized Linda had already started and was just doing the basic pedicure, I stopped her and asked to see the menu, her reply was 'next time' and I said "no I want to choose which pedicure I am getting and paying for (I wanted to get a massage and ensure I was paying more for a more thorough service. she was not happy about that but gave me the menu and I chose and upgraded pedicure and I confirmed the price (this is when I was informed of the additional gel pricing, which again is nbd but you should state that when gel is first mentioned). She was not fully exfoliating and did not use the callous remover. It was at that point I realized I was receiving poor service. I would have just sucked it up until she burned my foot with the towel and did NOT give a massage even though I paid for it. She also did NOT do the callous remover until I mentioned to her that she had not done it and I wanted it done. At this point, I'm a bit frustrated, but understand that each place may do things in different order so when she told me to wait until she was done, I did. However, as she was getting ready to put in the styrofoam flops on, indicating she was done with the pedicure part and about to finish with polish, I let her know that she did not shape/cut the sides of my toenails (which is a necessary step due to my proclivity for ingrowns) she was rude (though this I can write off as a language barrier, I understand it can be frustrating so I remained calm and polite but firm on what I wanted) and said she was done with my pedicure. That's when the owner,Mai), came over to 'interpret' and said that Linda was done with the pedicure and would do polish now.. I mentioned that I didn't get the full service and Linda said I did. When I told her I have been getting my nails done for years so I know what the full service is, she said she had been doing nails for 35 years. I'm sure she has, but when a customer explains what she is looking for and it is dismissed multiple times it just ensures I will not utilize Linda again. Overall, I will make sure to not utilize Linda again as she did not proved the service I paid for AND burned me. Thankfully there are no blisters but it is red and painful even as I'm drying my (not gel) nails. Very disappointed. read more

The staff are friendly and the prices are reasonable. However it's best to get to know which nail techs are good. Otherwise you get what you pay for. I usually get a gel manicure and pedicure. In my experience the gel rarely lasts 2 weeks at least one of the nails will chip early. One time the gel chipped on one finger on day 2. read more

I got a fill and basic pedicure and when I was done it was $105! Normally it's $80 and I add a generous tip. I asked why it was so much this time and I was told that I was charged $5 for each nail so that was $15 because I had two chipped nails and a cracked one and needed new tips. It was only two but I wasn't quibbling over $5. (Maybe I should give up gardening!) Also, it was $5 extra for the gel on my toenails and extra because I got French on both. I didn't get the pink and white and there is no telling how much that costs. Lately, there hasn't been a thick enough coat of gel, so they only stay shiny a couple of days. For the price, I expect them to be beautiful, perfect and last for more than a few days. I'll be shopping around for a salon that doesn't charge so much. We called about ten minutes ahead to see if they had two pedicure chairs open next to each other on a Saturday afternoon. They said they did and to come right in... Well when we got there we ended up having to wait 15-20 minutes. We would have been fine with waiting but the fact that we were told differently on the phone rubbed me the wrong way. My pedicure was great but my mom was sitting next to me and her pedicurist skipped three different treatments that were done to me during my pedicure. She didn't even get the bottom of her feet scrubbed down. We both got charged the same amount even though her pedicure wasn't as thorough. I started my pedicure before her and ended after.... A lovely place to get your nails done at a great price. All the nail techs are super friendly and do a wonderful job. I really appreciate that every time I walk in I am in a chair in less than 5 minutes and I walk out with gorgeous nails and toes. My only suggestion would be in consistency of the pedicures. Sometimes they are fantastic and I come out with baby soft tootsies and sometime they are just OK. My toe nails always look great but it varies how well my feet were cared for. Very happy with my pedicure. Pros: they used OPI and the guy did 2 coats with a base and a top. He even let me stay in the massage chair while my feet dried which no one does anymore. Con: not really a con but they used a lot of incense in there. It reminded me of college kids trying to hide the smell of marijuana. That was just a me issue not them. My favorite nail salon in Crofton. By far the best service I have received in this area. All of the technicians are friendly, and listen when I ask them to stop because something is uncomfortable. The prices are great, $10 for a manicure, which is I think the cheapest in town. Only by $2, but still, it matters to me when the service isn't compromised! Peter (I think this was his name) did my mani/pedi (in white, which is an extremely obnoxious color to do, and I felt bad for picking it) with no problems. Most places will refuse to do a white manicure because it is so tricky; it dries a bit streaky, and mistakes are easier to see since it's so bright. Another technician came and cleaned up one of my hands with acetone and a brush while Peter finished up the other. I have never gotten such attentive service at a nail salon. I would recommend this salon to anyone who lives in the area. read more

I went to MAI Nails for the first time today and the male who did my full set/pedicure was awesome! I told him what I wanted (very square nails) and he did the job perfectly. He also gave me a great basic pedicure. The cost for a full set/basic pedicure was $50.- way less expensive than some of the other saolns in the area. One star off because they do not accept tips on credit cards, and being that I never carry cash, I have to make a special trip to the ATM to withdraw tip money. HORRIBLE. Poor customer service. If I could give this place no stars, I would. Received a fill in. Less than a week later my nails are lifting. Very unnatural looking and THICK. I called the next day to try and come in so they could be fixed or to request a refund. I was told no refunds, but I could come to get them fixed. Apparently I'm very picky about my nail service. I walked in around 1:30 pm Friday July 3rd, 2015 (Left around 3:05 after talking to a friend who was there for 10 minutes). I walked up and asked for basic pedi and a Gel set (French tip). I was told 15 min wait. Awesome not bad since they were busy. Two women who were sitting ended up leaving and it sped my wait time up. The women at the first station was wearing a blue dress seemed to be the one in charge. She walked around and confirmed what everyone wanted (mind you I didn't speak directly to her and she knew what I wanted, this was brownie points). I was taken back to a chair where the water was drawn up warm but on the colder side. Not a problem since I did have my daughter with me. We sat in the chair for maybe 10 minutes which was fine with me. I understand it was basic, but there was hardly anything done. She clipped my nails short, cut the cuticles around some nails. My feet did not get scrubbed well at all. She did put a hot towel on my legs for 10 seconds to wipe them down. As for the polish part I chose red. She ended up getting nail polish everywhere which she took her nail to scrape off. Then she took remover and a brush to each toe. Sat down in the chair to get full set of Gel done. She started to file my nails down. (They aren't long but are not even.) any time I got a set done before, I had always gotten my nails clipped, cuticles cleaned, and a little massage with lotion. None of that here. No I got glue stick under my nail to my skin, electric filer into the side of my nail, and my pinky feeling like it was on fire. She did talk a bit to me which was nice, but as she used the powder to build the nail, I noticed she messed two places on my nails. I brushed it off thinking she would file down and those places wouldn't matter then. She took the filer again not getting the rough edges that were created from the powder. Asked me to rinse my hands off which then put clear gel?? On top. Hands in the thing with the lights and she walked away. I know she was hungry so perfect time to get a bite. When she came back she did some rubbing alcohol and that's it. No lotion to make my hands feel or look smooth. I was charged $70 and yes left a $5 tip. Only problem was how was it $70?? $25 for basic pedi and &40 for Gel set right?? Apparently not. The one girl who spoke English very well was explaining to me why it was $70. Okay whatever $5 extra because it was French tip. But I have a problem with having glue under my nails and rough edges. Now I had to leave and fix my nails at home for my date. I don't know why I got poor service/ work done, but it makes me not want to return. Give three stars because the place was clean, didn't smell bad, devote very nice and pretty. No she didn't take tools out of a sterilized packaging either. (Biggest peeve of mine) Chairs are nice for massage Lots of colors to pick from Very quick to get me back into a chair. Not even a week later (July 7th) I noticed my pedi had chipped off the corner of my big toe. I've had pedis done where the polish lasted a long time. read more

This place used to be good. The last 3 times I've come to get a gel manicure, the polish has not lasted more than a week. They rush you out and the nails have bubbles because of the improper spreading if the polish. Yes, it's less expensive than most gel manis, but you might get a botched nail job. read more

This was my 2nd and last time giving this place my business. I was headed home and needed an emergency fill in and nail replacement. The nail tech I had was the one I had the first time I was there. She's nice but sometimes overdoes it with conversation because she's trying to get a nice tip. She probably asked me the same questions twice thinking it was showing her attentiveness. I get it but at the same time, some customers just want to make small talk and make sure the attention is on the perfection of their nails. As nice as she was, my nails are all different lengths and not shaped correctly. Polish is bulky. She kept saying: Oh. You're nails are so nice and looks way better then they did when you came in. I think she needs more training. They also have a child who constantly runs around the shop. I understand and respect them wanting to teach him the business but there has to be business boundaries. You can't have a child running by the customers, yelling, in their faces, and distracting you from doing your job. You wouldn't want your customers children doing the same. That shows unprofessionalism and results in customers like me not wanting to return. Plus the work done is not equivalent to the amount you are charged. read more
