I have had both wonderful and decent experiences here, I think it depends on the technician you receive. After coming for a few months and experiencing multiple technicians I have found my favorite. I hate the job they did. Me and my friends came here, after a 40 minute drive, for her birthday to get our nails done,full set and pedicure, and neither of us liked our nails. She didn't do the shape, size, nor did she paint right. I've been here before, a few years back, and this one guy did and amazing job with our nails. But now they have a horrible salon. It was messy and the ladies were talking about us in the language. I know this because she asked my friend how old she was and then yelled it out to all of the coworkers and they laughed. Then I came back in, while I was in town, to ask for a refund or for her to fix my nails and mai, the owner yelled at me saying no because it's been over a day, that I have no experience with acrylics, that her workers are amazing, and started saying racist thing to me and about how people from my country, not knowing which country, like our nails. I tried to show her pictures from the night of but she looked away. I WAS SO OFFENDED. I'm never going back and suggest you don't either. I normally never write reviews, but I think I have to. I have been going to this salon for quite sometime. I go through phases where I get my nails done all the time and then stop for a while. I usually get an acrylic full set, and I like them square, thin, and straight (some salons will angle the sides in, I hate it). I usually go to Linda, I LOVED her when I first started going. She did such a good job and I never had to hassle her throughout the process to make sure she would do it right. Lately when I've been going, I don't feel like I have had as good of service. I went 5 days ago, and every single nail except one of my thumbs, lifted. All on the same side of the nail. This was Easter weekend, so once two of them popped off, I popped the rest off. Also, when I popped them off it didn't hurt at all. Usually I know I've gotten a good full set if it hurts when I try to remove them. So I called today and told one of the women and asked if she could give me a discount for another full set, since my full set only lasted 5 days. She said she would, but then told me because there are no nails for Linda to look at to see why they lifted, I need to take my business to another salon. She said if they don't lift when another salon does my nails, then she'll give me the discount. This did not sit well with me. I'm going to VT Nails which is up the street from Mai Nails. I've heard good things about the salon. I can't see me taking my business back to Mai after how they handled that situation. Especially because I've been to Linda at least a dozen times. read more

I would give negative stars if I could. My discover card was never returned to me and 6 hours after I left the place my card was used at best buy for $6000 worth of electronics. Not to mention my nails are a week out today and the gel has all chipped off and looks terrible. Never going back here and if you do, keep an eye on your credit card. read more

This is a great place to get your nails done! My friend who lives in Crofton introduced me to this shop and I instantly loved it because the staff is very friendly and professional! I feel comfortable there as it's very spacious and not claustrophobic like some places. They do a great job on manicure/pedicures...and also, after I left there last time, I messed up my 2 big toes while shopping... and came back and they fixed them for free! I've been to this salon a few times and am not quite sure why I keep going back. I stopped in Sunday for a pedicure and got very quick service. The salon was fairly empty so most of the employees were just sitting around talking. It was very loud and not relaxing-this is a business, not your living room. Toward the end of my pedicure one of the employees curled up in the chair next to me and started watching a movie on her phone... she was barefoot and putting her feet all over the "clean" chair and foot tub next to me. My pedicure left a lot to be desired. I felt like I was rushed through and have uneven and streaky paint. I am not sure of the cleanliness of the tools as mine were just pulled out of a basket and put right back when she was done. Both the nail file and buffer looked like they had been used on plenty of people I gave this place enough chances; I will be going somewhere else next time. read more

Walked in after work to treat myself to a mani-pedi, and I was thoroughly impressed! They sat me down and the pedicure was wonderful--great chairs, great leg massage and exfoliation, plus lotion, then to the toes--she took great care in making sure everything was perfect. My manicure was wonderful, and again, love the hand massage. Start to finish, I think I was there for an hour, but that was only because I took my time. $33 for mani-pedi, ask to put the tip on your card or bring cash (the "no tip on your card" reviews are not correct at this time.) I always tip in cash anyway--better that way. :) Recommend!! read more

This salon is super close to my house and work. The owner Mai is very friendly and will greet you by name if you are a regular. I always get my eyebrows waxed here and never have had an issue. I like Anne to do my manicures and pedicures because she takes her time. The prices have increased a bit since I have been going that would be my only complaint. I haven't gone to Mai Nails in maybe a year. Yesterday, I had gone to get a pedicure with my boyfriend and it was his first one. The ladies that had attended to us were very kind and made his first experience very pleasant. The lady that had done my pedicure was very attentive. The ladies seemed very nice; however....they have you soak your hands in acetone to remove the shellac gel nail polish- my skin was raw after soaking in a bowl, and it seemed unnecessary and wasteful. They should use the foil and wrap your nail to soak off the polish like the other salons do. (It works better, and it doesn't dry out your skin.) And then the nail tech used her own fingernail to scrape off the polish. Gross! Use a tool! That method didn't remove all the polish - and the new color on several nails peeled off within 2 days. I'll try a new salon next time. read more

Yesterday I went to Mai Nails salon for a pedicure. The place was packed but they found a chair. They wanted me to put my feet in the tub before it was lined with the protective plastic, I did not. They kept telling me to and I kept not doing it. "Lana" came over and was rushing and not very friendly. She couldn't seem to keep the plastic liner around the edges of the tub because she was rushing and so after a few attempts finally got in on. Came time for the massage and she was pressing so hard on my feet that I had to ask her to not do that. She refused to listen and so I became angry and said "don't press on my feet!". Today I literally have a bruise. As a finishing touch she applied oil to my legs and when I felt my leg when she was finished I couldn't believe she expected me to walk out like that. It was so oily I had to take the towel and rub most of it off She was giving me a hard sell before she started to the point it was very annoying. If I knew my foot would bruise I would not have left her even the small (intentional) tip that I did. I will never go back and they lose because I had thoughts of bringing a friend with me the next time. If you decide to go there, NEVER let Lana near you. She is a nightmare. read more

Very nice, clean, and convenient place. I brought my mother here for some giel time and she and I both got pedis. Mary took care of me and although she didn't say a word to me, she was very pleasant and mature. We went during the week, in the afternoon, and we were serviced immediately. The atmosphere is warm, nicely decorated, and can accommodate a lot of people! Pedi was $25 and included a leg scrub massage, this sweet smelling lotion, and a hot towel. I live in Bowie and am desperately looking for a salon that is clean, professional and staffed with techs that can do stylish designs with gel manicures. MAI has a very limited gel polish collection and the techs were less than enthusiastic about doing something a little different. The salon is very clean and efficiently run. The techs are also very friendly and did a good job on my french manicure. I'll keep it on my list but am still looking for the elusive salon that does designs on natural nails. read more

I was very upset with the service I received here. I went with my friend and I got a full acrylic set while she got a pedicure. We were seen right away and we were somewhat near each other which was nice. As I sat down, the lady doing my nails was talking to the girl doing my friends toes in a loud tone for the entire time and the only time she talked to me was to ask how short I wanted my nails. She was rough while buffing my nails to the point where my nails were sore because she was too busy talking to the lady doing my friends nails and talking to the baby that was there which was brought in by an employee there. Not only was the experience in the salon bad, but two of my nails fell off less than a week after I got them done. It is the cheapest acrylic set that I had found around and I had heard good reviews about this place but I will not be returning there any time soon. read more

She gets regular manis and pedis, and whenever I'm in town, visiting from California, I do the same. I am new to Crofton and went for the first time a few weeks ago and had great experience and was thoroughly impressed. The owner was very helpful and the technician did a great job. I then went back today and had a terrible experience . All the technicians can not do designs properly and after I was not happy with the work and design I was brushed off and out of the salon. The original technician said very nasty things in Vietnamese and un known to them I also speak Vietnamese due to my work in the military . Never the less I am highly disappointed and completely insulted and will never return to this salon. I left the salon unhappy and with sloppy nails today which is unfortunate and terrible customer service. read more

Right when i was getting ready to go, a girl finally came. She provided quick and efficient service. She didnt nick or clip me, so thay is a point in my book. I hate to knock stars off, but I don't want to leave an inaccurate review. Lately when I have returned, I haven't had the best results. The customer service is still really good but the 'product' itself seems to lack a little. My gel polish seems to chip within the first week and something that really bothers me is that they paint the tip of my nails with the gel, awesome, but then they dry it before adding another top coat so when I am all finished, the surface is not smooth and you can see the line where there is a little extra coating at the tips of my nails which causes a small little bump. It looks tacky. I have recently started going to Nail Center next door to Xtreme hair by shoppers, I like them much better. They don't have as nice of a salon but they seem to be much more talkative, friendly, and I personally think they do a much better job. read more

I love their work and have been coming here for about 2 years now. HOWEVER, recently they have stopped having people with just pedicures sit at the drying station. You literally finish your pedicure and just sit at the chair for your toenail polish to dry. Do you have any idea how long that takes??? If the foot portion of the drying station is broken, you need to get it fixed! No one wants to get a 1.5 hour pedicure where 45 minutes is spent trying to get your toes dry. I can pay the same price at the several other salons in the area and be out in half the time. No longer a fan of this place. read more

I've been coming to Mai since I've been at least 7 or 8 years old. They always do an amazing job and they always accommodate me-especially since I almost never have an appointment. Went to Mai nails on Sunday and had a terrible pedicure! They left polish on my toes and didn't spend the time massaging my legs or generally pampering me during the pedicure like they've done previously. One of my nails also ended up completely smudged, even after I spent over twenty minutes letting them dry, so the smudge was definitely not my fault. Other people in my group also had pretty bad pedicures, with one person ending up with polish all over her feet and parts of her nail polish removed (from when they tried to remove the polish from her skin) and another person ending up with a terrible design on her big toes! When she complained that the design didn't look right, they proceeded to tell her that it would look okay once they put glitter on and didn't even make an attempt to fix it! No matter how many times she said she didn't like it and wanted a different design, they made no effort to fix their mistake. This place used to be a nice place for a mani/pedi but I won't be going back anytime soon. read more

Went here yesterday with my mother as a gift. This place is just okay, nothing too fancy. Although my technician did an amazingly neat job on my toes and fingers, everything about the whole experience was just 'okay'. This is a great place if you need your nails done in a pinch and have them looking awesome! Its not a good place if you want to feel relaxed and feel like all your stresses are melting away (I'm sure you'd feel like that on a weekday when people don't come in as much, or maybe even smack dab at the opening). All in all, I can't stop looking at my nails! My gel polish manicure is smooth and neat, no bumps or waves! I'd highly suggest this place for gel manicures but not so much for a relaxing pedicure. read more

Let me preface this... This was my first time ever getting a manicure. I usually avoid paying to have anything done (nails, etc), because as a horseback rider, my nails are chipped and peeling within a day. I stopped in on a Sunday around 10:30am, and they took me right away. My tech was amazing, very friendly and sociable and knows her stuff! $30 for a gel mani. 3 weeks later, no chips, nothing, and my only complaint is that my nails grow too quickly! My go to nail salon. I live in Upper Marlboro but discovered this place when working across the street a few years back. Tina and Amy are great. They both are quick and pretty careful, as I usually get acrylic but get peeved if techs are careless with the drills or files. Never been nicked here. Tina remembers that I prefer designs and I've always gotten complements on her work. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes here, space is nice and open and the pedi chairs are great. Never gotten my brows done here but Linda did my little sister in laws and she was pleased. All around great spot if you need some me- time. read more
