Nail Paradise is a great neighborhood salon. I've been coming here for years and Yen is the absolute best.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I feel others should know what to expect. I visited the salon for a manicure, pedicure, and a lip and eyebrow wax. The waxing service cost $30 (plus an additional 20% tip) and took less than five minutes. It felt rushed, impersonal, and careless from beginning to end. Rather than taking me to a private or even semi-private area, the technician waxed me in the middle of the salon while my hands were in the gel dryer and another employee was working on my feet. She pushed my baseball cap back, took five seconds to wipe a cotton ball over the areas and then quickly waxed my lip and brows, and moved on with very little care or attention. There was no trimming of my brow hairs and only one or two quick plucks of obvious stray hairs. She briefly held up a dirty, blurry mirror, asked, "Does that look good?" and immediately moved on before I had a meaningful opportunity to respond. It did not feel like a genuine question. It felt like a formality. She did not even put my hat back into place before walking away. I was left sitting in the middle of the salon with my hands occupied, my feet being worked on, and my hair disheveled in full view of the other patrons. I am a professional, and I found the lack of privacy and basic consideration humiliating. I did not feel cared for as a customer. I felt as though I had simply been processed as quickly as possible. When I got up to pay, I expressed my dissatisfaction with the waxing service, but my concerns were met with little regard or interest. I was simply asked whether I had been shown a mirror, as though briefly showing me my reflection addressed the rushed service, lack of privacy, and inadequate attention to detail. When I reached my car and looked more closely, I saw that the skin above my upper lip had broken out badly. Whatever had been applied after the wax appeared to have caused a significant reaction. I returned to the salon to show them what had happened, expecting at minimum an acknowledgment of my concern and some degree of compassion. Instead, I was told that the reaction was my fault because I had wiped off the ointment they had applied. They then offered to apply Neosporin. I declined because my skin was already visibly irritated, and with my son's wedding only days away, I was not willing to risk an additional reaction. Once again, there was no apology, no meaningful concern, and no effort to take responsibility for what had occurred. There was no apology, no concern about the condition of my skin, and no attempt to make the situation right. The response was dismissive and defensive. The pedicure experience was also uncomfortable. I was encouraged to add a callus-removal treatment, which I agreed to immediately because I did need it. However, the treatment was performed after my nail polish had already been applied, which was extremely odd. Messy or abrasive work would normally be completed before the finishing work. More concerning was the way the technician repeatedly commented on how much callused skin needed to be removed. Once I agreed to purchase the service, there was no reason to continue commenting on the condition of my feet in a condescending and insulting manner. She repeatedly showed me the removed skin as evidence and discussed it loudly in the middle of the salon where other customers could hear. I did not need to explain that I had been spending my available time working full-time and volunteering at an animal shelter, caring for dogs in need, rather than getting regular pedicures. Regardless of a customer's circumstances, no one should be embarrassed, criticized, or publicly shamed while paying for a personal-care service. What makes this experience especially upsetting is that my son's wedding is only a few days away. I chose to have these services performed professionally because I wanted to look and feel my best. Instead, I left with irritated, broken-out skin and feeling embarrassed, insulted, and disregarded. Every business can have an off day. Customer service is demonstrated by how a business responds when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, I experienced no concern, accountability, discretion, or effort to correct the situation. Nail tech YEN has a bad attitude. I asked her to clean the polish and right away she got so upset and talking on her dialect on very disturbing tone. I took my client in there to get pampered she didn't deserve to show a bad attitude. She should not work in that place it ruined the other nail tech. Decent place to get a manicure, pedicure, or both. There is free outdoor parking in front. However, it's in a mini mall that also has two popular casual restaurants so parking can sometimes be a problem. No massage chairs but lots of comfy chairs. Sometimes there is a wait but it's usually not too long. They have the TV on with subtitles which is fun to watch while you get your nails done. They have a large selection of nail polish on the wall to choose from. My favorite brand for a manicure is Essie's line of neutral colors and they always have them available. My go to is Ballet Slipper. I also like Mademoiselle. This time I tried Skinny Dip. I can't find their prices listed online but the prices have gone up from what's listed on Yelp and from what they were a few years ago. I got a basic manicure with no extras and it cost $20 before tip. I inquired about a basic pedicure which is $22. Mani/pedi is $42. On the wall it said a 10 minute massage is $12. My nails were so bad that I was trying to hide them all the time. I kept telling my husband I was desperate for a mani pedi. Finally he snapped at me, "Go. I'm getting tired of hearing about it. I'll drive you." So I chose to get a mani pedi here. I took a chance and walked in rather than make an appointment and, luckily, was seated immediately. The salon is clean and the women are very pleasant. I brought my own polish but decided to use one of theirs. They have a good selection of decent polish - OPI, etc. Paula did my simple manicure. As a gardener who often forgoes her gloves, my hands can be a challenge. This time, I had neglected my digits for several weeks, so imagine. I didn't have to say, "Push don't cut." Paula just pushed immediately. I am happy with the job she did and will definitely ask for her service again. Susan worked on my feet which have been covered since November. She really had her work cut out for her with callouses and ingrown toenails, rough patches on the heels and balls of my feet. Well not only did she remove all the neglected bits but smoothed out my troll feet so beautifully, I would wear sandals now if it were warm enough. Whereas in other salons, I've felt the upselling is a bit much, here the extra services are offered and there's no attitude if you decline. Very nice. I've had a few terrible experiences here but today was the worst and I won't be going back. The other two times I've been here I've had subpar manicured and pedicures. However today the nail technician tried to use used nail tools on me. I requested she bring a sealed clean pack of tools from the tool cleaning machine to confirm they've been sanitized. Instead of complying she got angry and said she didn't have clean tools and that she just cleaned hers with alcohol. This is how nail fungus spreads between clients when tools aren't properly sanitized and heated in the cleaning machine. She then got up and went to help the next person with those same tools! This manicure is not even 16 hours old and it looks 3 days old. After watching her polish with that tap tap tap polish method NEVER DRAGGING THE POLISH FULLY to the end of the nail, just on top and in the middle, my nails were predictably not good. They were worse once I hit natural light outside - with obvious new hangnails and imperfections in the cuticle, AND nail polish and top coat all over the place. I actually did the horrifying thing (IYKYK) where you walk back in a nail salon to a nail salon and express your unhappiness. They didn't get superrrr annoyed with me which was nice but it sincerely would have been great if she got it closer to right the first time. This was a terrible experience. They charged me $10 more than the price that was pictured because I have "long" nails. I politely had asked for the woman to file my nails because I wanted to keep the length I had but she used the nail buffer to "file" them which left them all uneven.
