From the time I walked into this place ('bout 2 yrs ago), I knew this place was my new nail spot. The energy is relaxing and the convo is always flowing. The nail techs are all skill, knowledgeable, ready and willing to grant your nail wish. No length is too long/short and no design too intensive. I've had my nails blessed by: Susan, Jade and Mandy (my main tech) This place is where I fell in love with my stiletto shape and haven't looked back, since. If I were you, I wouldn't procrastinate with the appointment, though. These ladies STAY BUSY and when you check their IG page(@nailcandyshop), you'll know why. In this establishment, I don't feel like I'm part of an assembly line or "chop shop", as I call those nail shops in the mall. You know the ones? I LOVE Nail Candied b/c you won't find clumps of uneven acrylic camouflaged under nail polish/designs. These ladies are skilled and take pride in their work, their craft and their name. Go get ya nails done, girl! Although they take walk-ins, I'd HIGHLY recommend an appointment

Probably my quickest (and most expensive lol) full set. I came across Nail Candy on Instagram and have been following them for months. I was just getting over my acrylic addiction when I came across Kathy and Kelly's design and I was OMG, must book appointment, get over my fear of the drill and get my glass nails. I booked my appointment on Tuesday/Wednesday and had my appointment on Friday. First off, this nail salon is so cute and doesn't smell of chemicals. I didn't have too long of a wait time when I got there as Kathy was finishing up with a client (I got there early). She asked me what color I'd like and I told her nude and some designs with no clue of what she would come up with. I LOVE how my nails turned out. And I love the fact that I was in and out in like an hour. Kathy was a sweetheart. I can't wait to return.

Work by Paula, this is what I have on my nails at the time of this review.

Where do I start with these girls and this place? This is the best salon in the DC/MD/VA area -- PERIOD. Not up for debate. Great location because you can always find a parking spot. The only con about the location is a personal one because I travel from NW DC to come here and get my nails done, so it's a bit of a hike. The salon is very cute and ALWAYS clean. I personally love the selection of music that gets played. Sometimes it's old school R&B, sometimes it's current R&B and hip hop, but no matter what's playing I always enjoy it. There's a warm vibe in the shop, you always feel welcomed and included which isn't always the case with some other places. Let me also preface with this: please don't come here expecting to get a full set with designs for $40 and $50. There's a lot of skill and time that goes into their work and the price reflects that. Some would say it's expensive, but in my opinion everything is priced fairly. I easily spend anywhere from $70-$120 per visit, on JUST fingernails, and it is worth every cent. Every single technician that works here is talented. I will speak on the two that I have personally worked with. Kristin aka KK has honestly become a friend. It turned out her cousin is best friends with my cousin, which sounds like kismet to me. She's so skilled at what she does and she is also hilarious. When I show her a picture of what I want on my nails, she makes it happen which I appreciate. I honestly don't think there's another salon in this area with nail technicians that possess the level of skill that these women do. The girls are constantly booked so if you're looking for an appointment with a particular artist, plan for your service date to be 4-6 weeks from the day you call. I missed an appointment and KK was super booked and wasn't able to see me anytime soon. My nails were already 5 weeks old. She so graciously got me an appointment later that week with Paula. This was my first time having an appointment with Paula. She is fantastic. I don't think my nails have ever been more perfectly shaped. I showed her a designed and she recreated it PERFECTLY. I really love Paula's design work. I'm probably going to have to start switching between Paula and KK because they are both so good and I love them both. Paula and I had a nice conversation during my service which I really appreciate. I think we all have had those experiences where the technician won't even look at you, let alone make any kind of conversation with you. It kinda sucks, in a way, that I've been introduced to this salon because now I literally can not have my nails serviced elsewhere. I've been going to Nail Candy exclusively for over a year now. There isn't a salon that even holds a candle to this place. I think everyone should rally for the owners of Nail Candy Shop to open a second location in DC, or anywhere in the area honestly, with other nail technicians on par with their caliber of work. The area needs more nail technicians like these highly skilled women. They should be the standard, not the exception which is unfortunately what they are as of now. I know it would be a success!

I was enjoying my new nail location and had been going for a a couple months before the bad experience. So I had an appointment with Amanda on a Saturday that she had to movie back 3 times because she was running behind. Fast forward for my fill in a couple weeks later and now I need to reschedule for a later time and she charges me $50. So let's talk about this, for one I hated the thickness on the set I have but kept them because I knew I had 4 future appointments scheduled already. As a customer I have been very understanding considering the entire salon takes regular vacations every other month which already makes it hard to get an appointment. THEN they have the audacity to not want to work over anyone else's work, well just because I didn't go on vacation doesn't mean my nails should look like trash, a staggered schedule or something and has to be an alternative. I kept my nails done every 2-3 weeks unless I couldn't get an appointment. I spend no less than $75 every visit. While the nails are beautiful the service is sad, I really thought this was the new place I'd stay but this is not how you treat paying customers especially when you're prices aren't even comparable. While the work is beautiful you can find someone to do this for the same price or less with a better appreciation for your time and service. Kelli, Susan and her sister do the best nails in the shop, book weeks in advance if you can gauge your next fill, arrive on time or your appointment will be cancelled and you will be charged $50!

I don't tend to spend a lot on too many things, but when it comes to my nails I love to splurge. Although Kristin, or KK as she is affectionately called normally does my nails I've pretty much had some aspect of service done by all the ladies in the shop. The talent across the board is beyond measure and as with anything in life, you get what you pay for. When you go to Nail Candy you are sure to receive service with a smile and amazing artistry to boot. Simply put, there is NO competition in the DMV area!

Nail Candy is absolutely the best nail salon I've come across in the DMV. I always see Paula. She is super talented and you can tell right way she is confident and the best at her business. It is such a rarity to have a nail salon like this in Howard county that gives you crazy celebrity nail game. Actually, judging by the fact that I travel up and down the dmv... this is the rarest. Appointments are weeks out but that's expected. Make an appointment today and prepare to be wowed! I get compliments on my nails daily and have never been more thrilled to get my nails done. XOX

The left nail was done by Kelly Ha at Nail Candy and the right thumb was done by Victoria in Annapolis.

BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS AND DONT FALL FOR THE ARTISTIC DESIGNS AND FANCIFUL DECORATIONS. MY BASIC FULL SET WAS AWFUL!!Like most, a friend found this nail salon for me and recommended them based on our their craft designs. I had my initial appt with Kelly Ha. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, a very simple almond shaped nude nail. She seemingly rushed through my nails, not asking a lot of questions about what I wanted. When I commented that my nails were too long, she told me it was to late (which I didn't understand because she hadn't buffed or painted my nails yet). Like everyone says, I paid the $50 deposit and the balance or $25 and tipped her although I wasn't 100% in love with my nails. When I get home, I realized my thumbs were completely uneven (as did another yelp reviewer and the acrylic was layered on). I called and was told I could back in for Kelly to fix them. She apologized and I requested that she cut my nails down as well, she obliged. I scheduled a second appointment for a fill one week later with KK ( based on a personal recommendation. Ironically she seem to have best reviews on yelp, so I'm thinking I got it right this time). I made my appt for 2:30 and specifically stated I may be a few minutes late. Unfortunately, once I typed the address in to Waze, I realized I was going to be 20 minute late. I called and let Taylor know I was going to be late, and asked if I could either reschedule my appointment OR still come this afternoon. She told me KK couldn't service me today, but I could reschedule. However, I needed to pay $50. I clarified if it was another $50 deposit and I was told it if I ever wanted to schedule another appointment I had to pay a $50 cancellation fee because my tardiness was considered a cancellation. I kindly replied, I would just find another nail shop. I went to my regular nail shop this afternoon instead and my nail tech was appalled. She wanted to soak off my nails (but I didn't have time) and start all over. It took her over an hour to do a fill from a full set applied a week ago. My nails were so thick and unbalanced. They lacked body (they were flat in the center as if they square nails), there was caked on acrylic below the nail, etc. it was a botch job! I didn't realized how terrible my nails looked until I saw how beautiful of a job Victoria did. Bottom line: don't get enticed by just fancy designs which can cover up true nail talent. It is much harder to do a simple, almond nail because there isn't any design to hide the imperfections. Is the salon nice, yes. Do they play hip-hop music, yes? But is it lacking in customer service and basic nail skill...YES!

Right thumb vs left thumb. DO NOT GO TO KATHY!!!

For anyone considering going here, don't waste your money. To book an appointment you need a $50 deposit (which is non-refundable by the way) on top of whatever nail service you're going in for. I went to see Kathy to get a full sculpt set of acrylics ($45) and walked out with ICEBERGS on my nails. Nails came out all thick and uneven--she didn't even bother to fix it nor own up to the poor job she did. Horrible experience, she was rude and told me to look away and not look at my nails because my hands would start getting clammy(I suffer from mild hyperhidrosis). I couldn't even see the desired length I wanted cause she told me to look away and before I knew it, she had already filed everything down to a pulp. Best part, I had to pay $95 (Deposit fee+acrylic set) for that experience. I won't be going back to this place, especially if their nail techs let customers walk out of the salon like this. Save your money, ladies. If you do decide to go, DO NOT SEE KATHY. End rant.

VERY VERY VERY PLEASED WITH THIS SHOP!!! It was my first time and Kathy did my nails. I absolutely love them. We did a Valentine's Day theme with red black and gold. I paid a total of $105 INCLUDING eyebrow wax and $50 deposit leaving me with a $55 balance after my service was complete. Please don't let the negative reviews about this shop keep you from experiencing it for yourself. I'm so glad I came and i will be back!

I love, Love, LOVE my nails! Kristin delivered and I'm more than pleased. This was my first time with Nail Candy but it will not be the last. Everyone was kind, sweet and very attentive to their clients. I made my appointment back in April but the time went by fast...if you're in the DMV area, you must stop by Nail Candy

72 dollars for a fill and gel polish the price was not discussed I am kinda upset

Does anyone have any tips on how to get an appointment if you've never been?! I've been calling for months but I can't even get anyone?

It's a front desk she should be answering !! Try 410-997-0001 and request whoever is available at the time you want ! They book up fast

Like to book An appointment ASAP for my birthday?

I would call the salon and ask. I'm sure they would accommodate you and your party with a deposit if you give them enough notice. Many of the technicians book up weeks if not a month and half in advance, they're that good. Good luck.

I FINALLY FOUND IT FOLKS!!!…read more I've been going to Refresh Nail Spa since winter 2023, after searching for salons that offer drill-free manicures and focus on natural nail care like IBX treatments. I ended up finding Bernadette, an independent nail tech who works there--and she's been an absolute gem. While she does use a drill (contrary to what I originally searched for), she's incredibly skilled, gentle, and precise--so much so that it never damages my nails. Her technique is both efficient and mindful, striking the perfect balance between machine and hand filing. Initially, I was getting regular gel manicures, but Bernadette truly cares about nail health, and she suggested switching to builder gel (BIAB). It was a game-changer. Builder gel doesn't require soaking off and allows for continuous fills--meaning you can build on top of your last set without compromising nail integrity. Since switching, my nails have grown so long, strong, and healthy, and a single BIAB manicure can last me up to 6 weeks! Beyond nails, Bernadette is a wonderful person--easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and deeply caring. She also specializes in pedicures for clients with diabetes or other health conditions, which speaks volumes about her expertise and sensitivity to clients' unique needs. If you're looking for a thoughtful, health-conscious nail experience, I highly recommend Refresh Nail Spa and Bernadette in particular. My monthly visits have become something I genuinely look forward to.

She is a delight in every way--knowledgeable, gentle, and truly dedicated to her clients. Bernadette goes above and beyond to meet individual needs, making each client feel like a priority in the most sanitary atmosphere. After moving from the West Coast, I wanted to continue using non-toxic products, specifically Light Elegance. Bernadette not only consulted with my previous artists but also went the extra mile to purchase everything I needed to continue my nail care routine seamlessly. Her dry pedicures, which are actually certified medical pedicures, are nothing short of transformative. Her work speaks volumes, and so does she--always professional and attentive. Bernadette is in high demand, and for good reason. If you want to experience top-tier nail care, join the waiting list as she is appointment only. I'm very grateful to have found such a talented and caring nail artist. Highly recommend!
