Probably my quickest (and most expensive lol) full set. I came across Nail Candy on Instagram and have been following them for months. I was just getting over my acrylic addiction when I came across Kathy and Kelly's design and I was OMG, must book appointment, get over my fear of the drill and get my glass nails. I booked my appointment on Tuesday/Wednesday and had my appointment on Friday. First off, this nail salon is so cute and doesn't smell of chemicals. I didn't have too long of a wait time when I got there as Kathy was finishing up with a client (I got there early). She asked me what color I'd like and I told her nude and some designs with no clue of what she would come up with. I LOVE how my nails turned out. Where do I start with these girls and this place? This is the best salon in the DC/MD/VA area -- PERIOD. Not up for debate. Great location because you can always find a parking spot. The only con about the location is a personal one because I travel from NW DC to come here and get my nails done, so it's a bit of a hike. The salon is very cute and ALWAYS clean. I personally love the selection of music that gets played. Sometimes it's old school R&B, sometimes it's current R&B and hip hop, but no matter what's playing I always enjoy it. There's a warm vibe in the shop, you always feel welcomed and included which isn't always the case with some other places. Let me also preface with this: please don't come here expecting to get a full set with designs for $40 and $50. There's a lot of skill and time that goes into their work and the price reflects that. Some would say it's expensive, but in my opinion everything is priced fairly. I easily spend anywhere from $70-$120 per visit, on JUST fingernails, and it is worth every cent. Every single technician that works here is talented. I will speak on the two that I have personally worked with. Kristin aka KK has honestly become a friend. It turned out her cousin is best friends with my cousin, which sounds like kismet to me. She's so skilled at what she does and she is also hilarious. When I show her a picture of what I want on my nails, she makes it happen which I appreciate. I honestly don't think there's another salon in this area with nail technicians that possess the level of skill that these women do. The girls are constantly booked so if you're looking for an appointment with a particular artist, plan for your service date to be 4-6 weeks from the day you call. I missed an appointment and KK was super booked and wasn't able to see me anytime soon. My nails were already 5 weeks old. She so graciously got me an appointment later that week with Paula. This was my first time having an appointment with Paula. She is fantastic. I don't think my nails have ever been more perfectly shaped. I showed her a designed and she recreated it PERFECTLY. I really love Paula's design work. I'm probably going to have to start switching between Paula and KK because they are both so good and I love them both. Paula and I had a nice conversation during my service which I really appreciate. I think we all have had those experiences where the technician won't even look at you, let alone make any kind of conversation with you. It kinda sucks, in a way, that I've been introduced to this salon because now I literally can not have my nails serviced elsewhere. I've been going to Nail Candy exclusively for over a year now. There isn't a salon that even holds a candle to this place. I think everyone should rally for the owners of Nail Candy Shop to open a second location in DC, or anywhere in the area honestly, with other nail technicians on par with their caliber of work. This is a dope spot. I'm always down to pay more to get services done both beautifully and quickly. There's nothing like having to sit for long periods of time just to get services done. They got a good flow so if you're on a schedule like me, I need to be in and out, then this is for you! I brought my sister for an appointment so I could have her looking amazing for the henna I was going to be doing for her. As you can see from the gorgeous photos how everything turned out. For one - there is no convenient online booking; you're forced to call on the phone. Two - they asked if I was a new customer and said they don't do work on top of other previous work, that I'd have to get a new set and start over. WTF??!! That is the most asinine thing I've heard. So I had an appointment with Amanda on a Saturday that she had to movie back 3 times because she was running behind. Fast forward for my fill in a couple weeks later and now I need to reschedule for a later time and she charges me $50. So let's talk about this, for one I hated the thickness on the set I have but kept them because I knew I had 4 future appointments scheduled already. As a customer I have been very understanding considering the entire salon takes regular vacations every other month which already makes it hard to get an appointment. THEN they have the audacity to not want to work over anyone else's work, well just because I didn't go on vacation doesn't mean my nails should look like trash, a staggered schedule or something and has to be an alternative. I kept my nails done every 2-3 weeks unless I couldn't get an appointment. I spend no less than $75 every visit. While the nails are beautiful the service is sad, I really thought this was the new place I'd stay but this is not how you treat paying customers especially when you're prices aren't even comparable. While the work is beautiful you can find someone to do this for the same price or less with a better appreciation for your time and service. MY BASIC FULL SET WAS AWFUL!!Like most, a friend found this nail salon for me and recommended them based on our their craft designs. I had my initial appt with Kelly Ha. I showed her a picture of what I wanted, a very simple almond shaped nude nail. She seemingly rushed through my nails, not asking a lot of questions about what I wanted. When I commented that my nails were too long, she told me it was to late (which I didn't understand because she hadn't buffed or painted my nails yet). Like everyone says, I paid the $50 deposit and the balance or $25 and tipped her although I wasn't 100% in love with my nails. When I get home, I realized my thumbs were completely uneven (as did another yelp reviewer and the acrylic was layered on). I called and was told I could back in for Kelly to fix them. She apologized and I requested that she cut my nails down as well, she obliged. I scheduled a second appointment for a fill one week later with KK ( based on a personal recommendation. Ironically she seem to have best reviews on yelp, so I'm thinking I got it right this time). I made my appt for 2:30 and specifically stated I may be a few minutes late. Unfortunately, once I typed the address in to Waze, I realized I was going to be 20 minute late. I called and let Taylor know I was going to be late, and asked if I could either reschedule my appointment OR still come this afternoon. She told me KK couldn't service me today, but I could reschedule. However, I needed to pay $50. I clarified if it was another $50 deposit and I was told it if I ever wanted to schedule another appointment I had to pay a $50 cancellation fee because my tardiness was considered a cancellation. I kindly replied, I would just find another nail shop. I went to my regular nail shop this afternoon instead and my nail tech was appalled. She wanted to soak off my nails (but I didn't have time) and start all over. It took her over an hour to do a fill from a full set applied a week ago. My nails were so thick and unbalanced. They lacked body (they were flat in the center as if they square nails), there was caked on acrylic below the nail, etc. it was a botch job! I didn't realized how terrible my nails looked until I saw how beautiful of a job Victoria did. Bottom line: don't get enticed by just fancy designs which can cover up true nail talent. It is much harder to do a simple, almond nail because there isn't any design to hide the imperfections. Is the salon nice, yes. Do they play hip-hop music, yes? The nail techs here are true artists! After only two visits, I'm kicking myself for having ever gone anywhere else. I showed my tech, Kristin, a picture that had the feel of what I was looking for and let her be inspired. It was a masterpiece! I went here twice to get my nails done. After the second time I didn't return. I will not give the name of the person because I don't want her to lose customers. But her attitude wasn't great. She didn't say "hello" or ask "how is your day going"? The first time my nails were done well. The second time the polish was very messy. I was like I know you see how messy this is... I went to see Kathy to get a full sculpt set of acrylics ($45) and walked out with ICEBERGS on my nails. Nails came out all thick and uneven--she didn't even bother to fix it nor own up to the poor job she did. Horrible experience, she was rude and told me to look away and not look at my nails because my hands would start getting clammy(I suffer from mild hyperhidrosis). I couldn't even see the desired length I wanted cause she told me to look away and before I knew it, she had already filed everything down to a pulp. Best part, I had to pay $95 (Deposit fee+acrylic set) for that experience. I won't be going back to this place, especially if their nail techs let customers walk out of the salon like this. I loved my nails and I think she did a good job with the shape. My problem with the appointment is her energy and attitude. She moved very fast with my nails, two of them came off, Delicia didn't make any conversation with me, no eye contact, had an attitude when I wasn't sure what to do with my nails, the customer service was horrible. There seemed to be an issue with the fact that I prefer a specific nail tech over the others and I guess even paying over $100 each visit I don't have a say in whom I want to do my service. Me and the owner of the salon had a disagreement that I believe they made more personal than business which resulted in my leaving the salon as a whole. I was rudely and unsympathetically told that it would be ok because I can find another nail salon since there are so many in the area, in addition to being told that everyone spends a lot of money there when I complained about my customer service treatment coupled with how much I pay in services, which made me feel like I was never valued as a client. I have been going to Nail Candy for about a year. Their new location is beautiful and a great space. Kristen does my nails (gel polish manicure) and never fails to to do something amazing with them I generally bring in a few pictures off Pinterest or Instagram and her nail art skills are awesome. She free hands everything! I have had several different nail shapes and my nails are always symmetrical. I rarely break a nail, but when I do Kristen is able to save it. Everyone there is extremely nice and welcoming. I have also had my nails done by Jade who also does a great job. Quick tip though, because everyone here is so good at their job and each nail artist has quite a following, I would definitely recommend calling ahead as a walk-in appt is unlikely. Nails didn't last a week. Overpriced and the providers aren't very friendly. Don't let your nails crack after a few days because they will charge you to fix them after paying over 100.00 just 6 days before. If you read through the reviews you will see that all of Kelly Ha's first time clients have the same feedback. My first service was very disappointing and I will never go back. She didn't ask me how long I wanted my nails. Made them super long. Then they started cracking down towards the nail bed on the sides. Initially when I called to have a nail fixed only one was cracked. Within the next 2 days I got to the salon to notice 2 more cracks. Of course I couldn't get in sooner bc Kelly was either booked or not there. Kelly begins to fix the nails and starts getting a little frustrated bc I noticed more nails cracked on the side and she has a client in her chair and had to fix mine. She then tells me that if I have anymore I need to let her know bc she doesn't have time to fix them. They were also lumpy towards the nail bed and flat at the tip. She then tells me it's from pressure and asks to cut them down. Then charges me another 15.00 for a service that didn't even last a week!!! Mind you I had already paid 95 plus tip 6 days before. The owner was right next to her and heard the conversation. Never once interjected except to help finish her crappy work and ask me how I'm paying. It wasn't until after I left that I realized my thumbs were uneven and all of my nails were supposed to be coffin but a couple were semi-coffin and the others looked like road construction cones. The owner has not a care in the world that her employees are messing people up. I guess people start making a little money and don't feel the need to care about quality or comfort of customers. The only thing appealing about this place is the music playlist. Really kind of sad. Don't have worry about me coming back to this overpriced fake bougie salon. As a busy hairstylist, I can't have my nails chipping after one week and since I live and work in Baltimore I prefer not to come to Columbia sooner than every 3 weeks. Well my nails have never been healthier and longer than they have since I've been working with Jade. People tell me constantly that they don't believe that they are my real nails. And on top of that, I constantly leave with eye catching designs or interesting color work whether it be glitter, ombre, watercolor work, flower decals, geometric design work or pretty much anything and everything that I see on Instagram. Beautiful shop! I have been going to Nail Candy for almost two years (Kristin does my nails, but almost all the ladies have touched my nails at some point!) Kristin has given me the most beautiful and unique designs, has schooled me on the differences on acrylic, and never lets me go astray with my nails and tells me what I need even when I am trying to hold on the length that needs to go. They are all so sweet, such a fun laid back environment, the interior is gorgeous and the ladies have really put their personal touch on the place! The prices are displayed upon entrance where you check in. (Feel free to take a card and a button with you!) the prices are also displayed at each nail station! And prices are comparable to other nails salon and mani/pedi combo is obviously the most bang for your buck, the prices as stated will vary with designs, so if you come in wanting something specific and stone filled please please be prepared for the price as I tell all my friends whom inquire! You get what you pay for and the designs are often time consuming detailed work and nail candy stands behind all of their work so if you have any issues a simple phone call and they will be more than happy to work it out with you! Customer service here is horrible, not to mention your paying absurd prices for a mediocre nail job that lacks quality. The pictures I posted where all WITHIN A WEEK. They use this technique where they basically sculpt/mold the acrylic onto your nail to create the shape/design/length etc, which 1. Makes your nail break easier especially if it's at a longer length,2. If and when it breaks you have no choice but to go back to their salon to fix it, even if it's not an available option for you at the moment, and 3. If you decide not to do that, because the acrylic/gel whatever they use is so bulky, you have to literally wait for an hour at least to soak that nonsense off....My nail tech was Kelly Ha. I was super excited to get in and get my nails done because I saw some designs via social media, and i observed that it was an all female owned establishment which I thought was pretty cool, but I was quickly reminded of why it's best to stick with who you know when it comes to quality and satisfactory service.!!!Before I even got to my appointment the receptionist called me asking if I can come in earlier which wasn't a problem because I was already on my way. Then I get there and Kelly ha is clearly not enthused, and clearly in a rush given that her co worker Kathy keeps asking her " is she ready", and how long, and how she's gonna be waiting in the car. Nice conversation to have in front of a FIRST TIME CUSTOMER!!! Then I tell Kelly ha the type of designs I like, show her a couple of pics then she gives me this NONSENSE DESIGN????? It's embarrassing because any family member or friend I told that my nails cost me 110$ laughs at me, not only because I've had better, but because you can get that basic ghetto fab design done in southeast dc for 45$ max!!! It literally ruined my whole day!!!!And to make matters worse the length of my nails were not anything like I showed her and when I was willing to pay more for her to extend it she says , she can't change it. Um yes you can, especially since you sculpted it you can just add more acrylic to the end , she didn't glue any nails on so it wasn't that big of a request but BECAUSE she was " in a rush , of courseeeeee" it wasn't possible. Anyway, I reach out to the manager & send pics and of course instead of offering an incentive or even an apology (especially because I didn't ask for my money back I simply asked for a new design), she makes an excuse for her co worker / "friend" justifying that nonsense!!! Nail Candy Shop is by far one of the best nail salons in the Baltimore area! My nail tech, Kristin is so creative and always gives me exactly what I want even when I'm not quite sure what that is!! When I first came here I was so excited to go to a dope salon and they were close by. And let me tell you. TOTALLY WORTH IT!! My mom started getting acrylic and she LOVESSSSS it! Vibes are dope and everyone is BOMBBBB! I began coming to this salon about two years ago and I always went with Jade. Not only is she talented but an angel!!
