I am overdue to give a shoutout to Alan and his team. We moved into this old row house with a 20+ year old Pooner & Son's rolling door. One day, it got stuck midway up. We were panicking. Alan called us, had us do some basic troubleshooting and then showed up within 24 hours. He diagnosed the repair and found an old motor. After a heavy snowstorm, it malfunctioned, opening, but refusing to close. I called to report the issue (he helpfully included his number on a sticker that was adhered to the door) and left a message. Have had a Pooner & Sons roll-up security gate at the (back-alley) entrance of my town house for about six years. Along with perimeter fencing (along sides of yard, provided by another service provider), the Pooner & Sons roll-up gate secured our back yard area, creating a private/safe enclave for car parking, patio, and an element of privacy. The roll-up gate requires only infrequent maintenance, which Pooner & Sons does itself. The roll-up gate is sturdy, industrial grade, and generally operates well. The Pooner & Sons team is competent, responsive, professional and pleasant to do business with. Very highly recommend this company and the product they provided. read more

There is no way around it, Pooner is pretty expensive, but I can say with absolute certainty that the experience, installation and customer service afterward have Ben completely top notch. Mr. Pooner didn't "hard sell" me. He met with me for nearly an hour, explaining the process and timing. He procured all the permits and he and his crew arrived at exactly the time he said he would every day. They swept and cleaned up my back driveway and alley apron every day, leaving it cleaner than when they arrived. He even programmed my home link remote in my car so I could open/ close the new door from my car. His crew were also very professional and respectful. The real example of professionalism was in the couple years to follow. About once a year or so, Mr. Pooner and his crew are back in my alley, installing a new door for one of my neighbors, and he will bring one of his crew by to grease the track on the door or make a couple small adjustments to and touch up the paint on the supports, completely without asking and without charge, and even though it's been 4 years since he installed my door and his company has probably installed thousands of these roll up doors, he always seems to remember my name and stories I told him about my family. Allan and his crew installed a roll-up security gate at the back alley entrance to my daughter's home in December 2014. He secured all permits, stuck to schedule, and he and his crew were pleasant, efficient, and kept work area immaculate. He returned within the year to design and install an iron panel to fill in gap between garage door post and newly installed wooden gate. He has always responded quickly when called about anything connected to the garage door--how to program remote on outside of gate, how to replace batteries in personal remotes, and provided maintenance, repair and replacement of owner-damaged panels. Fyi, the main number for N. Pooner & Sons usually goes to an answering service, so the person who picks up may not be able to answer your questions (pricing, availability) immediately. But trust me, it's worth the wait to have Alan call you back. I was calling to request a service check since one of my safety sensors had gone out and my door wouldn't come down, but instead he gave me excellent and clear instructions to check the electrical connection myself, sparing me the cost of a visit he was pretty certain I didn't need. Turns out he was right! I was able to fix the wiring myself in 5 minutes, sparing me the expense and inconvenience of scheduling a service check in the middle of the week. He really earned my trust with such great customer service, and I'll be sure to call him for any annual maintenance or repairs I need in the future. read more

Alan Pooner and his family have been doing roll up doors for decades and they are fantastic. I got 4 bids and his was in the middle, but it included getting all the permits, which others did not include. I wish Alan did other kinds of contracting because he and his crew are the best contractors I have ever worked with, and I've worked with a lot. He's honest, fair, on time, helpful and is proud of what he does. The door was not the best looking, but it's extremely well built and he stands behind his work. He doesn't paint the actual door because by keeping it unfinished galvanized steel, it's easier to clean graffiti off with solvent then if it is painted. He isn't great on social media so this review may look fly by night, but N Pooner & Sons is a legit, reliable, long-lived business and you will be pleased with the work. read more
